  1. "So, I was pretty upset when I found out a recent patch had broken compatibility for a lot of essential PC mods. I literally left for work, came back and my game was unplayable. Not good. Unfortunately, it also seems that the DSMFix dev hasn't been active anywhere in over a year, and the DSFix dev in at least a few months. With hotfixes potentially months(or more) away, I figured I would try and fix it myself.

  3. For some inexplicable reason I have a backup copy of my entire Dark Souls installation stored on my hard drive. Which was insanely lucky, because using that, I managed to find the files that the patch had updated, and restore them. Boom. All the mods work again. So hopefully this can be an interim solution for those of you who, like me, can't live without their mods." - Anonymous user.

  9. -BACK UP YOUR DARK SOULS INSTALLATION FOLDER.

  11. Cannot stress this enough. There should be absolutely no problems if you follow the instructions, but especially with a game as unforgiving as Dark Souls, you're better off safe than sorry.

  13. -Unzip the downloaded file.

  15. -Inside the unzipped folder, you will find four files. DATA.exe, DATA.exe.cat, DATA.exe.cfg, and installscript.vdf.

  17. -Place DATA.exe, DATA.exe.cat, and DATA.exe.cfg inside the \Steam\SteamApps\common\Dark Souls Prepare to Die Edition\DATA\ directory. When Windows asks you if you want to overwrite the files, choose "yes" for all of them.

  19. -Place "installscript.vdf" in the \Steam\SteamApps\common\Dark Souls Prepare to Die Edition\ directory. As before, choose to overwrite the file when prompted.

  21. -Restart Steam (just to be safe).

  23. -Play Dark Souls. Note that you will ONLY BE ABLE TO CONNECT with those who are using this patch or retail users, basically anyone who hasn't installed the new update will be able to connect with you.
