- >You open your eyes
- >You’ve been crying
- >Fuck you too dreams
- >Wipe tears away, try to calm down
- >It hard to. He was your best friend.
- >Knock Knock
- >You try to gather yourself as you get up and walk towards the door
- >A guard greets you, only this one’s armor is batwinged and purple
- >”Yes?”
- >”Her majesty Princess Luna requests your presence in her chambers. Immediately.”
- >”Why?”
- >”I do not question my orders, sir. Get dressed and I will lead you there.”
- >Like a good soldier
- >You throw on one of the robes in the room over your skivvies and follow the guard to Luna’s room.
- >This is more than a bit odd. Luna didn’t say one word to you and now you’re meeting her in her room, alone, in the middle of the night. Who knows? Maybe she’s got a thing for humans.
- >You stifle a chuckle.
- > You eventually arrive at Luna’s room.
- >She’s really got a thing for the night
- >Her door is covered with constellations, each star a glittering diamond with a platinum crescent moon in the direct center.
- >”Her majesty awaits you, sir.”
- >The guard then resumes his post beside the door.
- >Like a good soldier
- >Here goes nothing.
- >”You sent for me, princess?”
- >”Y-yes. Please Anon, have a seat.”
- >You notice Luna’s eyes seen red and puffy. Was she crying earlier?
- >”What’s this all about, Princess?”
- >She does not immediately respond.
- >”Was he... your friend?”
- >”What? Who?”
- >”The man who died playing poker with you.”
- >WHATTHESHIT.JPG
- >You jump up, blood boiling,
- >Has she been looking in your mind?
- >”How do you know that?” You growl.
- >Looking thoroughly intimidated, she raises her hooves in protest.
- >”Wait! Wait, you have to understand, I don’t dream my own dreams! Powerful dreams from my subjects find me when I sleep! Yours came to me immediately!”
- >Great. Now you’ve got someone looking into the darkest recesses of your soul, and you can’t keep them out.
- >You sigh depressingly and sink into the chair, head in your hands.
- > You look up at Luna, who, between your dream and your aggressive response, seems close to tears.
- >”Yes. He was my best friend. He died in a forgotten village fighting a war no one in my country seemed to care about.”
- >”Then why did your country fight?”
- >You sigh. “I don’t know.”
- >”Then why did YOU fight?
- >You look at her incredulously, “Because I’m a soldier. I don’t ask fucking questions. They say jump, I jump. They say shoot, I shoot. They say, shoot that kid, I fucking shoot the kid. No ifs ands or buts. ”
- >You realize you’ve said far too much when you see the look of horror on her face.
- >You get up to leave. Fuck this shit.
- “You don’t understand.”
- >No one ever does.
- >”Wait.”
- >”WHAT,” you snap at her
- >”Help me understand.”
- >”Listen, princess,” A word you utter with no small amount of venom, “even if I stood here and told you about every horrible memory of that God-forsaken shithole, it wouldn’t change a damn thing.”
- >”Why?”
- >Why does NOBODY get this?
- >You rush to her bedside, anger finally boiling over. You are face to face with her, only a foot between you and her.
- >”Because you AREN’T. A. FUCKING. SOLDIER.” Every word punctuated by your finger jabbing her chest. Luna sinks deeper into her bed, trying to get away from your venting frustration. “Hell I bet you’ve never even gone a day without missing a fucking meal! There is no possible fucking way some princess knows ANYTHING about hardship! You’ve got EVERYTHING you ever could want! How could you possibly relate to anything when you have all this!?” You spread your arms out to illustrate.
- >Your anger vented, you back off a little.
- >She’s crying now. You made a princess cry. Another point in your asshole book.
- >You sigh. “Listen, I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have snapped at you.” You sit down next to her and give her a hug, like your dad used to do when he snapped at you. Eventually she stops crying. That’s better. It’s nothing personal, but nobody ever understands. Hell, the only way you’d be able to is if you somehow could live through my memories.”
- >She looks down pensively.
- >”Maybe I can.”
- >”What?”
- >No seriously. WAT.
- >Her horn glows blue. The light fills your vision. You blue out.
- >Eventually the light fades, but you’re not in Luna’s room anymore.
- >Hell, you don’t know where you are.
- >The skyline and weather swirl violently around you, changing from a clear blue sky to blizzards, from country gravel roads flanked by hardwood trees to a middle eastern city block burning around you.
- >Despite the violent change taking place, it all looks very... familiar.
- >The ground disappears abruptly, but you do not fall.
- >The sky fills you up. There are no clouds this high up. You can see the curvature of the earth. All you can hear is your breathing and the wind rushing by. Nothing but you and the sky.
- >Your heart grow light when you recognize it.
- >This is...
- >”My first HALO jump...”
- >”I wondered why you were flying, Anon.”
- >You turn quickly to face Luna. Your feet are on marble floors, in a hallway of heavy oaken doors. You don’t recognize it.
- >”Where are we?”
- >”We’re in your memories, Anon. I used my magic to take us into your memories. I also used magic to stabilize your mind, so you can more easily remember past events, and with more clarity.”
- >”How...?”
- >”There is very little magic cannot do, Anon.”
- >You guess she’s right. You’d forgotten how amazing it felt during that jump.
- >How hard will the bad memories be?
- >”I don’t know if I can do this princess. It’s bad enough reliving these memories when I close my eyes.”
- >”Please Anon, call me Luna. And I’ve seen more than you think. I’ll show you mine if you show me yours?”

- >What are you getting yourself into?
