  1. >The sleeper dreamed.
  2. >Of worlds ablaze, tongues of fire lapping hungrily at the night sky.
  3. >Of blood, covering the city streets, painting its walls.
  4. >Of screams, for mercy, for death, for release from the torment.
  5. >Of bolter fire, chainswords roaring and tank treads grinding.
  6. >Of swimming, in the deep. Water so deep and black you could not see anything.
  7. >A light above you.
  8. >Dim.
  9. >But it's there.
  10. >SWIM
  11. >And so you do.
  12. >Closer to the light, you see shapes on the water.
  13. >Humans, Space Marines, griffons and ponies all fall gracefully down. Some bodies are broken apart, nothing more than pulped meat and bones. Some bear no wounds at all.
  14. >Wreckage passes serenely as well, occasionally blossoming in silent explosions of white and red.
  15. >You see a few you recognize.
  16. >Pinkie Pie.
  17. >Twilight.
  18. >Fluttershy.
  19. >That nurse from the hospital.
  20. >Little ponies too.
  21. >You were so engrossed in searching for familiar face that you did not notice one bearing down upon you.
  22. >You finally realized that a body was nearly on top of you, and turned towards it.
  23. >Being virtually nose to nose with yourself, albeit  with a half a smile on "your" face and the other blown away did little to calm your nerves.
  24. >You swum away from it as fast as you could.
  25. >Peering back, all you could see was your facsimile's ruined grin, being swallowed up by the darkness.
  26. >Pressure and warmth surrounded you.
  27. >You felt yourself rising.
  28.
  29.
  30.
  31. >The sleeper awoke with a gasp.
  32.
  33. >Various medical machinery beeped and hummed and blared out warnings.
  34. >Frantic voices shouted out instructions to others, or just babbled about medical procedure and ailments you didn't really care about.
  35. >Your lungs felt like they were on fire and your temples pounded with migraine white pain.
  36. >All of these things you took in the moment your eyes opened.
  37. >The tumult around you took longer to settle.
  38. >"He's up!" Exclaimed one doctor.
  39. >"His vitals are still insane; more anesthesia!" Ordered another.
  40. >"No, he's leveling off, we don't want to give him too much," a nurse suggested.
  41. >What had happened?
  42. >How had you even gotten back to town?
  43. >You would have to talk to the princesses about this. Or at least, somebody who knew a thing or two about sorcery.
  44. >You tried to tell them all to stop their postulating and let you go, but the hoarse whisper that left your lips shocked you. You then noticed just how much it hurt to get that out.
  45. >One nurse pressed you gently back down. "There, there," She cooed, "Everything's alright now. You're safe here."
  46. >"I'm just happy he stopped screaming and flailing around." A nurse who looked like the one who taken care of you before piped up as she injected some fresh drug or something into the catheter that snaked its way into your arm.
  47. >You tried to stop her, but your arms did not rise all of the way. Thick leather restraints tethered you to the bed, tough the bar they were bolted to had flexed beyond all sanity.
  48. >"...stop..." was all you managed to rasp out.
  49. > If they heard you, they did not show it.
  50. >"Stop." A little louder this time. Still no response.
  51. >A hard yank on the restraints elicited the proper groan of metal giving way.
  52. >That got their attention.
  53. >Some babbled about useless ideas, such as, "He's burned through the morphine!" "That's the last time I treat this thing." And your personal favorite, "Someone restrain him!"
  54. >Despite waking up without your power armor, it still did not take you long to pull catheters out and stand up.
  55. >Funny, they had managed to attach needles into your chest and wrist injection ports. But how? It is not as if the ports were intuitive..
  56. >By that time you had shaken of the few that had tried to push you back down.
  57. >Some fussed and fumed, some fumed, but eventually they left you alone.
  58. >Especially after Gilda and Fluttershy showed up.
  59. >"What the hell do you think you all are doing? He doesn't want you to touch him." Gilda gruffly stated as she pulled a pony in a doctors coat away from you.
  60. >Fluttershy managed to be a little more tactful.
  61. >"I can take care of Chosen now. Don't you doctors worry, I'll make sure he's one hundred percent ready to go."
  62. >Once all of the staff had left and whining heart rate monitors and medical devices had been silenced, then the questions came.
  63. >"...what happened?..." you wheezed.
  64. >"Well, we got that pony back here like you said," Gilda responded. "With no help from featherbrain here..."
  65. >"Fluttershy doesn't take the bait. You give the griffon a harsh look, but the pegasus continues the story.
  66. >"I, uh, had a severe concussion..." She mumbled out. "But miss Cherilee is going to make a full recovery!"
  67. >"You turned up a bit later, big shot. Something exploded like a bomb in front of the hospital and then you were there in the crater like something out of a comic book." Gilda continued.
  68. >"They took you inside and took care of you, but you were asleep for 4 days..." Fluttershy said.
  69. >"...Four days?... Wh-... how..." You tried to reason.
  70. >"Then you started screaming and having a seizure. I was so scared..." Fluttershy meekly stated, tears seeming to well in her eyes.
  71. >"The docs said you'd lost your mind or broken your brain or something. Then you just woke up right now, like nothing happened." Gilda piped up as Fluttershy drifted off. "'Course that was after you nearly broke two of the docs in half."
  72. >"...I... need to talk to... princess..." You trailed off in a few weak coughs.
  73. >By the time you had finished your coughing fit Fluttershy was moving back towards you with a glass of water.
  74. >Which Gilda tried to take from her to give to you.
  75. >Which made Fluttershy plant a hoof in her beak.
  76. >Had your throat not been raw from screaming, you might have chuckled as Gilda tried to hold her bleeding nostrils shut.
  77. >With a proud look on her face, the yellow pegasus presented the glass to you, which you drank greedily.
  78. >"Where is my armor?" You asked, now refreshed.
  79. >"Sabe plate ad befo," Gilda said between her attempts to snort the blood back in her head.
  80. >And off you went.
  81. >While you did not care that you felt the occaisional breeze through your slight hospital gown, you felt other ponies stares as you passed them in the hall keenly.
  82. >Of course, when you turned to ask Fluttershy and Gilda to help you close seals and force clamps close on your armor, Fluttershy wouldn't look you in the eye, and both seemed to be redder in the face.
  83. >"Fluttershy, did you have the doctors check on that fever of yours?"
  84. >She didn't reply as she worked a clasp together.
