- >You are Anonymous.
- >Today was the beginning of the royal sisters' vacation.
- >You, as their dear friend, made reservations to have them lodged at a beach-side luxury resort.
- >Not that there would be difficulty finding lodging for the princesses.
- >While Celestia was all for the beach, Luna was a bit reluctant to the idea.
- >"But Anonymous, the heat is insufferable, and I enjoy a quiet getaway with a few close friends. A beach-side resort will be teeming with our subjects."
- "So you're saying you hate other ponies?"
- >She scoffs, "Of course not! I just prefer less crowded places."
- >You and her had this argument about a week before the vacation, when you revealed what you had planned for the royals.
- >Today was the day you were to head out to the resort.
- >The Princesses packed what little they needed (you were disappointed that ponies didn't wear swimsuits) and met you out in front of the castle entrance.
- "You two ready?"
- >"Yes, Anonymous. Let's be on our way, shall we?"
- >Celestia was eager to go.
- >"I...suppose. Yes, let us leave."
- >Luna was still conflicted.
- >Celestia entered her carriage, Luna, hers.
- >You decided to ride with Moonbutt to see if you could cheer her up.
- >The guards strapped to the carriages took off, and you were on your way.
- >The blue pony next to you heaved a sigh.
- >"Are you certain this is a good idea, Anonymous?"
- >You patted her head.
- "Of course, Luna. It'll be fine. Even if you don't want to go outside, you can stay in your hotel room."
- >You hold your finger up to her face.
- "But, you'll miss out. Just a warning."
- >She looks in the opposite direction, likely thinking.
- >You hoped you'd gotten to her.
- >It'd be nice to see her come out of her shell every once in a while.
- >The rest of your flight was silent and awkward, as Luna would constantly look in your opposite direction.
- >A couple hours later, you had made it to the resort.
- >You and the royals disembarked from the carriages.
- >"We'll be here for a week. If you are needed in case of an emergency, one of us will send a letter. Until then, boys."
- >Celestia sent her guards off with a smile.
- >"I may want to leave in less then a week, my subjects. Keep vigilant for any incoming mail. Be off, then."
- >Luna sent her guards off with a stoic expression.
- "Uh, later guys."
- >After getting inside and witnessing the obligatory "H'OH WOW THE PRINCESSES ARE HERE" song and dance, the three of you got to your room and got settled into your surroundings.
- >"This room is nice and cool. Just as I hoped," commented Luna.
- >She sat her things down on one of the two beds and lied on it before pulling out a book.
- >There were two beds.
- >And three of you.
- >You'd be sleeping with one of the-
- >"Oh, there's only two beds. I'm sure one of us can sleep on the pull-out bed in the couch."
- >Celestia magicked the cushions off the couch in the room and brought out the bed inside.
- >Goodbye boner, you were a true patriot.
- >"Now, if we're all settled, I'd like to state that I will not be joining in any outdoor festivities. If I am needed, I shall be in here."
- >Luna finished with a scooch towards the window.
- >"But Luna, wouldn't you like to go outside and sunbathe with me?"
- >Ooo, sunbathing princess.
- >"I apologize sister, but I cannot stand the heat."
- >"But what about the performers or the volleyball games? Wouldn't you like to come out and watch them?"
- >"My decision is final, sister. If part of my vacation requires that I not relax, then what would be the point of it?"
- >She turns away more, trying to get into the book.
- >Celestia takes off her regalia and grabs a bottle of sunscreen, sighing.
- >"If that is what you wish, Luna, I won't force you to do something you don't want."
- >The white alicorn faces you.
- >"Will you join me outside, Anonymous?"
- "Yep, I'll be right out."
- >She smiles, then leaves the room, closing the door with her magic.
- >You take off your shirt, and head to the bathroom to change into swimming trunks.
- >You come out to find Luna in the same position as before, reading her book.
- "So you're just gonna stay in here all day?"
- >"That was my intent, yes. I am free to spend my vacation how I want to, correct?"
- >You didn't feel like arguing anymore.
- >You leave the stubborn moonhorse in the room and try to catch up with her more outgoing sister.
- >You met Celestia in the lobby.
- >Somehow she had found sunglasses and a sunhat on her way here.
- >She looks a bit disheartened.
- "Something wrong, princess?"
- >She lowers her head.
- >"I guess I was just hoping you would somehow convince Luna to come out. I don't want her to stay cooped up for this entire trip. She could do with a bit of socializing."
- >Amen to that.
- >"But I suppose if she's happy in that room, then, well, who are we to take that from her?"
- >That was also a valid point.
- >Feeling you'd talked enough about Luna, you decided to exit the resort and get to the beach.
- >Celestia followed you, figuring she'd let you pick a good spot on the beach.
- >You stop at a kiosk on your way and grab a set of beach towels to lay on.
- >It was packed all along the shore, ponies everywhere swimming, playing, and relaxing under Celestia's sun.
- >Finding a patch of unclaimed sand, you decide to set your towels down there.
- >You unroll the towels and set them flat on the sand.
- >Celestia lies down on one.
- >"Ah, this feels wonderful, doesn't it, Anonymous?"
- >You lie down on the towel next to her.
- "Sure does. I haven't been to a beach in a long time."
- >You put your hands behind your head.
- >You listen to the sounds of happy ponies, splashing and playing.
- >Suddenly, a bottle of sunscreen floats your way.
- >"I'd hate for you to get burned, Anonymous. Feel free to use my bottle."
- >Grabbing the sunscreen, you apply some to yourself, just enough to cover your legs and torso.
- >If your face gets burned, that'd be a shame.
- >"Also, would you mind putting some on my back, Anonymous?"
- >She looks up at you with expectant eyes.
- >Getting to rub Sunbutt all over with your hands?
- "Fuck yeah I'll-! I mean, yeah, sure."
- >You squirt some of the lotion and rub it into your hands, getting behind Celestia as you do.
- >You reach out to her, your hands touching her back a bit sooner then you were expecting.
- >You rub across her body with the lotion, making sure she gets enough.
- >It'd be ironic for her to get burned by her own sun.
- >She breathes deeply as the cool lotion touches her warm body.
- >"Thank you, Anonymous," she says as you continue your motions.
- >The sun's heat isn't what's making your face red.
- >With a huff, she speaks again, "Anonymous, I hate to sound repetitive, but don't you think Luna would be happy out here?"
- "What makes you ask?"
- >She gazes out at the blue sea.
- >"It's just...I feel like she's missing out. Don't you think it'd be good for her to be out here with us?"
- "Well yeah. But she's harder to convince then a mule. No offense," you apologize to a nearby mule.
- >"None taken," he responds with a lick of his chocolate ice cream.
- >You continue speaking to the alicorn below you.
- "She never really liked the idea of coming to the beach in the first place. It's a shame, I thought both of you would love it."
- >"And I do love it. Thank you for the reservations, by the way."
- "Ah, it was my pleasure, Princess. You don't have to thank me."
- >She shifts around on the towel.
- >"Luna's a bit...hard to figure out. There are some things even I've yet to expect from her. However, I do know that she has always hated large crowds. No offense to her or Ponyville, but I'm surprised she managed that visit on Nightmare Night."
- "But I thought she went to get the admiration of the ponies?"
- >You raise your eyebrow.
- >"She did, but she saw it more as a way to see if our subjects still admired her. Plus, she felt inclined to go, since she did inspire the holiday."
- >The lotion on your hands runs out.
- >But that didn't matter, Sunbutt was probably over-protected at this point.
- >"All I'm saying is that I think talking with other ponies would be good for her. This is the perfect opportunity, and instead she's up in our room alone."
- >She looked back at you with a sad expression.
- >You couldn't stand to see either of the princesses sad.
- "Y'know what, I think you're right, Celestia. I'm gonna go get her."
- >She gets up from the towel.
- >"No, Anonymous, you don't have to do that. Really."
- "Nope, don't even try to stop me, Princess. She's coming out whether she wants to or not."
- >You ran for it before Celestia could stop you.
- >Not like she'd chase you down anyways.
- >You slam through the entrance of the resort and make your way to the stairs.
- >You slow your pace and go up the steps, heading towards your room.
- >You pass several doors in the hallway, stopping at the one you knew was yours.
- >You reached down to your trunks, only to realize, well, you're wearing your swim trunks, and don't have your room key.
- "Shit."
- >You knock on the door, hoping Luna wasn't too into her book to answer.
- >"Who is it?"
- "Anon. Open up."
- >"If you're here to make me come outside, you're wasting your time."
- "No, no, I'm here because I have to..."
- >You said the first thing that came to your mind.
- "I have to go to the bathroom."
- >"If that was the case, why did you not use the public ones in the lobby?"
- "Public bathrooms are gross, Luna. Seriously, let me in!"
- >She quietly groans, and the door opens via Luna's magic.
- >You walk in to find her lying in the same position, this time with a drink on the side table next to her.
- >"Do your business, Anonymous."
- >You walk past her and into the bathroom, but instead of using the toilet, you grab the key from your pants pocket that you had left in here.
- >You stop before you leave the room again.
- "You're positive you don't want to come out, Luna?"
- >"We had this discussion, Anonymous."
- >She waves her hoof at you.
- >"Leave. You'll be wasting your breath trying to convince me to join you."
- >She sure was stubborn.
- >The power of guilt-tripping ought to solve this.
- "Luna, look at you. This is always what you do at home in your free time. Can't you get out of your comfort zone just for once and try something new?"
- >She scoffs and looks at you.
- >"Is that not why it's called a 'comfort zone'? I am entitled to do what makes me most comfortable."
- >You pace towards her.
- "That's the thing. You aren't really willing to try something new. Maybe it'll get added to that comfort zone. If not, it's not a big loss."
- >She turns away from you, likely trying to ignore you.
- "Come on, Luna."
- >She stays silent.
- "...Celestia really wants you out there. She's worried about you. She doesn't like that you're up here alone while we're out there having fun."
- >She turns her neck to look at you.
- "If not for me, then come out for your sister, Luna. She wants you to be out there."
- >She stares at you for a moment, then heaves a sigh.
- >Her book snaps shut.
- >"If dear sister really wants me to be with her, I suppose it won't hurt to come out."
- >She gets off of the bed and onto her hooves, magicking a pair of sunglasses onto her nose.
- >"Lead the way, Anonymous."
- >You grin, having been successful in your attempts to coax her.
- "Right this way, Princess."
- >You got back out to the beach with the blur horse in tow.
- >You grabbed another towel and found your spot from earlier.
- >Celestia was chatting it up with a group of ponies.
- >"...-es, Luna's here too. I'm not sure if she'll be coming ou-."
- >She noticed you walking alongside her sister.
- >She smiles at you, happy you got her sister to leave the room.
- >"Actually, Luna and Anonymous are right here."
- >You see who she's talking to in particular.
- >It's Fancy Pants and his wife(?) Fleur de Lis.
- >Instead of that stuffy suit, though, he has a button-down flower shirt on.
- >"Anonymous! Good to see you again, old chap! It has been too long."
- >He extends his hoof.
- >You take it in your hand and shake it firmly.
- "The feeling's mutual."
- >Behind Fancy Pants and Fleur, there are several other Canterlot elite.
- >Seems not only the royal sisters got vacation time.
- >"And Princess Luna. How is today treating you, my dear?"
- >The night princess shifts her eyes nervously.
- >"It has been...adequate."
- >She doesn't seem too open to talk.
- >"Well that is good to hear. I say, it is an odd coincidence that we both picked the same day and place to go on vacation."
- >"Agreed, it does seem funny in perspective..."
- >A few of the other elite chat with Celestia as Luna struggles to hold the conversation.
- >Without warning, a group of fillies and colts emerge from the elite crowd.
- >They surround Luna.
- >"Princess Luna! Princess Luna!" they shout.
- >Fancy Pants laughs heartily at the display.
- >"Oh dear, it seems the children like you, princess. I'll let them talk to you. I'm sure they're tired of us boring adults, anyways."
- >He and Fleur go back to Celestia with a smile.
- >The kids continue to hop around Luna.
- >"Is it true you like to play games, Princess?"
- >"Would you want to play with us, Princess?"
- >"Please? All the other grown ups won't play with us!"
- >Luna tries to whisper to you, "Where did these children get the idea that I'm sporty?"
- >You shrug your shoulders.
- "Maybe they heard about your time in Ponyville on Nightmare Night?"
- >She looks at the kids, who stare up at her with large eyes.
- >"Is this true, children?"
- >A small cream-colored one jumps up in front of Luna.
- >"Yeah! We heard how much fun you and the ponies in Ponyville had together! We thought maybe you'd like to play volleyball with us!"
- >She puts a hoof to her chin in thought.
- >You elbow her side.
- "Come on Luna, don't be shy."
- >"I suppose I could play your game..."
- >She was met with cheers as she answered.
- >"Right over here! The volleyball court is right over here!"
- >The kids run off to the group of nets set up on the beach.
- >The moon princess follows them, as do you.
- >You walk across the hot sand, feeling the little grains in between your toes.
- >It's a shame ponies can't feel this.
- >You arrive at the volleyball court, greeted by happy foals.
- >Although most of them run to Luna.
- >They all try to talk to her at the same time.
- >You get snippets of what they say as they speak.
- >"-and you play-."
- >"-you have to spike the ball-."
- >"-there's in bounds and out-."
- >"Children!"
- >They freeze up at the sound of Luna's voice.
- >"Please, one at a time children."
- >One steps in front of the group, a chocolate colored colt.
- >"Okay, what we're trying to tell you is the rules of the game."
- >"The rules? Please, continue."
- >The colt, joined by a couple other kids, explained the rules of volleyball bit by bit to Luna.
- >She nodded when they finished.
- >"I understand the rules, children. Now, let us begin!"
- >"But how do we make up the teams?"
- >You thought about that.
- >It would definitely be an unfair advantage to the team that didn't have Luna.
- >You came up with an idea.
- "How about all you kids go up against the Princess? It'd be only fair."
- >Luna grins.
- >"I like this idea. It would provide quite a challenge. What say you, children?"
- >The group unanimously agreed.
- >It was Luna vs. the kids of the elite.
- >You grabbed a nearby ball and stood in the middle of the court.
- >You tossed the ball up and ran out of bounds to start the game.
- >The ball went over to the kids' side of the court first, which was then bumped up into the air by one of the kids.
- >It flew into the air, then came back down before being bounced over the net by a green filly.
- >As the ball flew towards Luna, she reared up.
- >Making sure not to hit the ball with her horn, she bounced it back onto the other side of the net without a problem.
- >It shot towards the kids at a high speed, almost too fast for one filly who bounced it back into the air.
- >It slowly ascended, and was coming back down on Luna's side.
- >She dove towards the ball's projected landing place and hit it high into the air.
- >So high that it shot upwards quite a distance.
- >It was about 10 seconds before the ball came back down, falling back to the kids' side.
- >They all struggled to predict where the ball would land, being saved by a lucky hit by a red colt.
- >It shot over to Luna, who bounced it on her head once, then, while it was in the air, she jumped up and spiked it onto the other side.
- >The kids couldn't react fast enough, and the ball landed on the sand.
- >"Huzzah! I enjoy this game, children! Are you ready for the next serve?"
- >Despite the kids' tired expressions, they were still happy to play with Luna, no matter how badly they'd get beaten.
- >It went on like this for an hour, Luna winning the game 9-2.
- >The kids were all on the ground, panting.
- >It was Hell to try and keep up with Luna.
- >"Such fun! I should play volleyball more often!"
- >One of the foals got up from the ground.
- >"It was fun. You're just," she huffed, "Really athletic, Princess."
- >She took a moment to notice the state of the kids.
- >"Oh," she curled her hoof towards her mouth, "It appears I do not know my own strength."
- >She grinned sheepishly.
- >Another kid got up off the ground.
- >"That's okay. We're glad you played with us. Thank you, Princess Luna!"
- >The other foals followed suit and thanked the moon princess.
- "Alright Luna, you ready to go back to your sister?"
- >"Certainly. I hope to show her that I can speak with other ponies."
- >Even if they were just kids.
- >The two of you walked back to the spot Celestia sat in, the princess letting the rays of her sun warm her.
- >"Sister, I have returned from my game."
- >The white alicorn looked up at her sister, a drowsy expression in her face.
- >"That's good, Luna. It wasn't that bad to come out and have fun, now was it?"
- >Luna smiled.
- >"I admit I have been proven wrong. It doesn't seem to be as bad as I thought here."
- >You rested a hand on the blue horse's shoulder.
- "See, told you it was good to come out of your comfort zone every once in a while."
- >Not that she needed too much convincing, right?
- >"I think it best if I were to rest for now. That volleyball game was exhausting."
- >A likely story.
- >Luna lied down on the towel next to her sister.
- >You took your place next to her.
- >Only day 1 and you got Luna to come to terms with the vacation.
- >The rest of the week was looking pretty good to you.
