I need to stretch my wings!” Rainbow Dash complained from the back of the cart >”Quiet! We’re almost there!” Applejack chided from her harness in the front >”Focus! The data we need is on the third level of the building. Dash clears the way, I get the data, Applejack gets us out of town.” Twilight listed, matter-of-factly >Dash rolled her eyes. Let the egghead do the planning, she just wanted a chance to crack some skulls. >The cart rolled to a stop across the street from one of the tallest skyscrapers in the city, the streets empty this time of night >Twilight took a deep breath, “This is it.” The nervousness in her voice was obvious. >”Calm down, egghead. This will be a piece of cake. Look, no security!” Dash hopped from the cart and let her cyberwings stretch to their full span >Applejack shifted uneasily in the cart’s harness, “I don’t like it. If this data is so important, why ain’t this place a bit more guarded?” >Dash began to protest but Twilight interjected, “I don’t like it either, but the schematics Spike downloaded are accurate, and Rarity scouted this place for days. Now-“ >Dash cut her off, “Are we gonna do this or are you two going to get cold hooves!?” >Twilight hesitated, “No. We do this. If anything comes up, we’ll handle it.” She said planting a none-too confident hoof forward >The faint buzzing of servos could be heard as Dash began flapping her cyberwings, “Now we’re talkin!”   >Twilight approached the thick steel double-doors, her horn glowing as she tried to crack the maglocks holding them firmly shut >With a satisfying “click” the locks opened and the doors slowly swung open, revealing a bright, sterile hallway >”It’s go time!” Dash was quivering with excitement as she started creeping down the hallway, Twilight following a safe distance behind  >Dash’s eyes were darting to every doorway, waiting for it to open and guards to come spilling out, cutting their run short >She wouldn’t have to wait long. Dash reached the end of the hallway and pressed herself against the wall >Carefully peering over the corner, she saw five guards, weapons at the ready and poised to ambush them >Dash yanked her head back and flashed a signal to Twilight, informing her of the coming skirmish >Twilight quickly moved beside Dash, her horn flaring as she began mentally preparing her spells >Unable to hide her grin, Dash crouched. Her cyberwings fully extended, her muscles taut, she reveled in what was to come >Waiting for Twilight to get ready seemed like an eternity, beads of sweat began forming on Dash’s forehead, her body aching to be let loose >The seconds passed like hours waiting for Twilight’s signal. Dash’s concentration was just starting to slip when she felt the familiar double-tap on her flank. This is it. Time for fun.   >Dash sprung into action, her cyberwings propelling her forward like a jet >In addition to her wings, she had neural processors that augmented her reaction time to a razor’s edge >She was upon the guards before they could comprehend what the blue streak darting towards them was >She aimed for the biggest one, toppling him first would make the rest seem like filly’s play >She tackled the hulking stallion, sending the two of them crashing to the floor >The other four guards were staring, mouths agape, at the fight before them, too stunned to move >The stallion was strong, but Dash was fast. She darted in and out of the huge hooves that were raining down on her, peppering the stallion’s body with quick jabs and kicks >”That the best you got?” Dash taunted, as a massive hoof narrowly missed her ribs >The stallion sputtered with rage as he struggled to land a blow, “Maybe it’s time to switch to cardio instead of lifting” Dash mocked. >Taking advantage of the distraction, Twilight rounded the corner into the fray, her knees trembling with fright >The other guards had gotten their bearings and were closing on Dash and their leader. Twilight had to act fast >Four bolts of crackling, purple light went streaking through the hallway towards the four guards >Three of them crumpled to the floor in a heap, the fourth had missed its target. Twilight’s trembling had ruined her aim   >Seeing his comrades fall, the remaining guard spun and saw the purple unicorn, horn flaring with the power of another spell >Before she could blast him with another bolt of energy, the guard leapt towards Twilight >Time seemed to slow for Twilight as she watched the guard bring his wicked-looking club to bear on her >She tried to suppress the fear that paralyzed her body, but it was too late. >The guard’s club connected with Twilight’s head and with a shriek of pain she collapsed, unconscious and bleeding >Dash was in the middle of delivering another witty insult when she heard her friend cry in agony >The split second of distraction would prove disastrous for the blue Pegasus >Dash looked away for just a moment towards the direction of the sound and when she turned her attention back to her opponent, her vision was filled with the giant horseshoe of the stallion >Her vision blurred as the stallion’s hoof caught her square in the jaw >The force of the blow sent her sailing, coming to a crashing halt as she slammed into the wall across the hallway >The stallion slowly made his way towards her, limping slightly from the amount of abuse he had taken >His face bloodied, he grinned a wicked grin and said “That’s a lot of tough talk from a mare with a glass jaw” >Dash’s vision was still blurry, but she could see the hazy outline of the stallion standing over her, his hoof raised and ready to deliver a final blow >Dash just smiled, “That was your best shot?”   >Dash slammed her head into the stallion’s ribs, forcing the air out of his body >Wheezing, he stumbled backwards and Dash was on him again, assaulting him with a renewed tenacity >Her hooves flew faster than before, hitting their marks and splintering bones with each blow >The stallion, gasping for air and hacking up blood, made one final, desperate attempt to fight back >He reared back and threw a deadly haymaker toward Dash’s head >She deftly avoided the blow, and the stallion went stumbling, the force of the punch putting him off-balance >Dash saw her opening and took it, delivering a thunderous kick to his throat, crushing his windpipe >The mighty stallion fell, body shuddering and writhing as he entered the throes of death >She had no time to bask in her victory, as there was yet another guard left standing >The guard was winding up to take another swing with his club when he caught a flying kick straight to the head, and went tumbling down the hallway >Dash held her breath as she waited for the guard to return to his hooves, but when no movement came she turned her attention to her hurt friend   >”Twilight, are you alright?” Dash said, trying to rouse her friend >”No, of course she’s not alright, she has a huge gash in her head” she thought to herself >Dash continued shaking her friend awake when she heard a bell ringing at the far end of the hallway >Two doors slid open and another squad of guards emerged from the elevator >”Aw, come on!” Dash quickly scooped up her friend bolted back the way they came >Dash burst through the steel doors and hurtled towards the waiting Applejack and their getaway cart >”What in the hay happened in there?” Applejack yelled seeing Twilight’s condition >”No time, just go!” Dash screamed as they piled into the cart >Applejack took off on a mad dash towards road that lead out of Manehattan, while sirens began to blare behind them >With the Manehattan police closing in, Applejack began weaving through alleyways and side streets trying to shake them >”Hey c’mon, take it easy” Dash yelled as her and Twilight were jostled around in the cart, but Applejack paid no mind. She was far too busy concentrating on not getting caught >The game of cat and mouse finally broke when Applejack had turned down an alley and lost sight of the police >Not long after they were outside the city limits, Twilights eyes flickered open. She called out to Dash, her voice weak, “I’m so sorry. I-. . . it was all my fault” >Dash gave her a tender, genuine smile “Don’t worry about it egghead. There’ll be other jobs.” >Rubbing the gash on her head, Twilight asked “What happened back there?” >Dash’s smile quickly faded, replaced by a cold, grim expression. “We were set up. By who, I don’t know. But I’m gonna find out.”
