  9.
  10.     The last thing you remember is running full-tilt out of the woods.
  11.
  12.     You can glimpse sunlight, and maybe open fields, but that's all you get before a hoof catches on an exposed root and you start falling. Hard.
  13.
  14.     You crash and roll, skidding over dirt, roots and grass. Your head slaps a rock and you feel a tooth chip before your vision goes completely black. That's it for you for a few hours.
  15.
  16.     By the time you come to, the sun's gone down in the sky. A rosy sunset blurs your vision, and the rumbling of wheels fills your ears. You're in a cart, being pulled. Pulled by a muscular red stallion toward a farmhouse. When your vision clears enough, you see a mare walking beside you.
  17.
  18.     She notices you've woken up, and gives you an easy smile. “Easy there, stranger. You must've taken quite a tumble back there, the state you're in. If Applebloom hadn't been playing by the fence we might never've seen ya.”
  19.
  20.     You try to say something, but end up coughing and groaning instead.
  21.
  22.     “You just get some rest and let ol' Big Macintosh do the work,” insists the mare. She tilts her cowboy hat toward you and says “Name's Applejack. How's about you?”
  23.
  24.     >[Lie]Uh... Sunny.
  25.     >It's, uh... I don't remember

  213.     "Uh... Sunny," you say, without too much conviction.
  214.
  215.     "Sunny, huh?" says Applejack, with a smile. "Well, pleasure t'meetcha."
  216.
  217.     The stallion pulling the wagon stops. “Here we are.”
  218.
  219.     You tilt your head up and see you've reached the farmhouse, a nice, stately wooden home painted in apple-red. Big Macintosh stands clear to give you room to get up, and ever so shakily you do.
  220.
  221.     Your hooves almost give way when you step off the wagon, but Applejack and Big Macintosh catch you. You manage to straighten up and shake your head a little clearer, get a better sense for your surroundings.
  222.
  223.     It's an apple farm, and it's late in the day. Your two rescuers aren't the only ponies around, either. At the farmhouse door, a little yellow filly with a big pink bow is looking at you with curiosity, as is an elderly old mare.
  224.
  225.     “There's Applebloom and Granny Smith,” Applejack explains. “You're in no shape to walk t'Ponyville tonight, why not say with us for dinner? There's plenty'a room in the barn fer sleepin'.”
  226.
  227.     >Is there any chance I could sleep on the couch?

  255.     You're right. What's the usual standard for quest threads?
  256.
  257.     “Glad t'hear it!” Applejack beams. “Come on, let's get you some grub and you can tell us exactly what went wrong.”
  258.
  259.     You're lead inside, where the little filly immediately accosts you. “Are y'all okay? You was hardly breathin' when I found ya! Oh yeah, I was the one what found ya! Did I save your life, mister? Hey, what were you running from anyway?”
  260.
  261.     “Settle down, Applebloom!” the senior mare snaps, and the little filly quickly relents. The elder creaks up to you and gives you a stern once-over with her good eye. “Y'say y'found him runnin' outta the woods by the fence?”
  262.
  263.     “Yeah, granny. He tripped and hurt himself real bad!”
  264.
  265.     “And now he can't make it back t'Ponyville on hoof...” Granny gives you a prod in the leg, touching off a bruise. You wince convincingly, and she gives you another stern appraisal.
  266.
  267.     “Hrmph” she snorts. “Weeell, you look decent, I s'pose, and we can't be havin' strangers wanderin' the woods at night. Y'might as well warm yer hooves and get some grub.” With that, she ambles off after Big Macintosh.
  268.
  269.     “That's about as close to a 'nice ta meetcha' yer likely to get,” says Applejack, who gives a slightly cheeky smile. “Granny's got a heart'a gold, just don't like strangers in the house is all.”
  270.

  320.
  321.     Also OP, you'll attract more people if you remove the different choices. People find it more interesting to change the story the way THEY want it to be, not the way the writer is, and have the writer adapt to the choices they're making.
  322.
  323.     Limiting yourself to four choices removes a lot of the fun and unpredictability involved in CYOA's.

  370.     While I agree, I was hoping to evoke the video game of "The Walking Dead", which means trying to keep the story somewhat under control. Otherwise I'd be dealing with people launching into their zombie plans or trying to stick their dicks in Applebloom's eye.

  419.     "I uh... I don't remember that either. I can't remember anything."
  420.
  421.     Macintosh snorts, disapprovingly. "You gotta remember somethin'."
  422.
  423.     "Hold on now," says Applejack. "Let's hear him out. Stranger- uh, 'Sunny' hit his head pretty hard out there, might be slow t'recall."
  424.
  425.     You push your food around your plate a little. The atmosphere at dinner's become a mite cold. Applejack gives you an uncomfortable look but doesn't say any more. Applebloom doesn't seem to understand what's going on.
  426.
  427.     Granny takes a slice of pie with all the calm and poise of a lady at tea. When she looks up at you again, her voice takes on a much more serious tone. “Well, maybe y'can at least remember what you was runnin' from.”
  428.
  429.     You try. You really do. There was... shadow. And movement. And groaning. But that's all. Is that worth mentioning?

  457.
  458.     The room is now completely silent and still. Applebloom's expression is confused and frightened. Mac fixes you with a cool look. Applejack turns between you and Granny.
  459.
  460.     Granny finishes her pie and pushes the plate away. “Send 'im t'the barn,” she mutters.
  461.
  462.     Applejack protests. “Granny, if what he's sayin' is true then-"
  463.
  464.     To the surprise of all assembled she slams her hoof on the table. “Consarn it Applejack I said he can sleep in the barn and that's final! Barn's plenty hospitious." Applejack wants to protest further, but she stops herself.
  465.
  466.     “Strangers is one thing and hospitality is all fair and good, but if there's somethin' after this'un, if there's trouble comin' his way I won't have him under my roof. Not where my grandchildren sleep.” For this Granny lowers both her voice and glare. “And I don't wanna look at that mark'a his another minute.”
  467.
  468.     What is your mark, anyway?
  469.
  470.     You look down and almost choke on your supper.
  471.
  472.     Looking back up at you from your flank is your own dead skull. Not just any skull. Not a stylized picture of a skull. Somehow, you know you're looking at your own. And it's looking at you.

  505.     "There's blankets and hay about so you won't be cold," she says, sounding glum. "And there's a lantern and matches near the door if you need 'em."

  507.     The barn is well-built and it's a warm summer's night, so you won't be uncomfortable. Still, there's something hanging in the air that makes you shiver.
  508.
  509.     Applejack lingers, looking embarrassed. "Sorry about granny. I think you just spook her a little, is all. We don't get too many strangers round these parts." She pauses to consider this, before adding "actually we get all kinds'a strangers but usually they're monsters or creatures or some such trouble as Twilight's gotten me into. But not wounded ponies comin' outta the woods talkin' bout shadows and havin' no names."
  510.

  579.     Running is difficult and painful, but you do your best. You weave between the trees, closing in on the farmhouse and overtaking the shadowy forms around you. They leer at you with huge, dead eyes, but you dare not look too close.
  580.
  581.     It's only when you clear the trees and make a break for the door that you see one of them plainly.
  582.
  583.     It's a pony.
  584.
  585.     Or it was. It's dead now, spotted with rot and decay, as well as fresh buckshot. The hit took off most of its head, but it didn't look to have much of one to begin with.
  586.
  587.     You hear another gunshot as you turn toward the house. Someone's firing from a second-story window. Another of the shadowy figures nearby goes down. The rest are shuffling slowly in your direction, but many of them are wandering freely.
  588.
  589.     You're ahead of the other... dead things. One of the windows on the ground floor is smashed open, do you try for that or make for the front door?

  692.
  693.     “Ah said get runnin'!” Granny leans out the window and lets fly with both barrels. One of the shadows in the orchard drops, but the rest pick up the pace toward the house. “They're attracted t'the noise! I can keep 'em busy long enough fer you t'get t'safety.”

  771.     After another minute, Applejack gives up on fighting and sets to running alongside you. The only sound besides the groaning of the dead and the beat of your hooves on the road is the sobbing of Applebloom, who moved to her brother's back. You, Macintosh and Applejack tear down the path out of the farm – at one point, a dead pony rears up from the gutter, but it ends up right in Applejack's path and gets trampled for its trouble.
  772.
  773.     The crack of gunfire grows more and more distant, before finally stopping altogether. You glance over to Applejack, who is keeping her eyes fixed on the horizon even as they well with tears.
  774.
  775.     It's only when you're far from the farm and the monstrous, dead ponies that your pace slows so the three of you can catch your breath. Applejack stares daggers at you and Big Macintosh, but won't say a thing.
  776.
  777.     It's finally Applebloom who breaks the silence. “Where're we goin'?”
  778.
  779.     “Ponyville,” says Mac. “Someone oughta know what's goin' on.”
  780.
  781.     “Now hold up a second,” says Applejack, who rears to a halt. “Fluttershy's cottage ain't far. If them things've gotten as far as Sweet Apple Acres they could be right on top'a her. We need t'go get her first.”
  782.
  783.     “She can look after herself,” says Mac. “She's a pegasus. She can fly to safety.”
  784.
  785.     “If there's one thing Fluttershy can't do it's look after herself when there's trouble,” snaps Applejack. “You left Granny behind, you're not leavin' Flutters too.”
  786.
  787.     Big Mac looks up at Applebloom before turning to his other sister. “Granny wanted us t'get Bloom to safety. That means Ponyville, as fast as possible.”

  825.     "We can do both," you offer. "Big Mac, you can get Applebloom to Ponyville. Applejack and I can go get her friend."
  826.
  827.     Applejack's expression softens into a smile. "Thanks, Sunny, I'm glad fer yer help."
  828.
  829.     Macintosh snorts, but relents. "Fine. We'll meet at town hall, okay? Don't be long."
  830.
  831.     Applejack sets off along a fork in the road, but Big Mac manages to stop you for a private word. "You bring my sister back safe, stranger," he mutters. "Don't you forget, now."

  858.     "I can handle her fine," you say. "You just worry about Applebloom."
  859.
  860.     He frowns slightly, but gives you a nod and you return it. With that, Mac sets off toward Ponyville with Applebloom still clinging to his back.
  861.
  862.     You catch up to Applejack who's already making her way down the rural paths toward Fluttershy's cottage. The backwoods are darker and harder to navigate, and you hear the occasional groan that makes you both freeze in fear, but you don't run into any more of those... things.
  863.
  864.     "Not long now," Applejack whispers to you, and sure enough you can see a dilapidated cottage near the treeline. It seems unharmed, but with dawn still a ways off it's hard to say for sure.
  865.
  866.     Of course, between here and there there's countless shadowy hiding spots and patches. Anything could be hiding in there, and if you listen close you can hear the groans...

  908.
  909.     The two of you pick slowly and painfully through the tall grass, avoiding pools and staying out of the open.
  910.
  911.     You're getting close when a smell suddenly draws your attention. "What in tarnation is that?" mutters AJ, who turns away to follow it.
  912.
  913.     Before you can say anything she sticks her head around a corner and gasps. When she turns back she seems close to vomiting.
  914.
  915.     You have to see for yourself. You sneak up and take a peek.
  916.
  917.     It's a bloodbath.
  918.
  919.     It looks like a disparate pack of animals got into a fight with the monsters. Dead birds, bunnies, weasels, badgers, even a great big bear lie amongst the rotting corpses of ponies.
  920.
  921.     Not all of the dead ponies are still, however. A number remain, and they are feasting on the dead flesh of the animals. They haven't noticed you, and you manage to slip away.
  922.
  923.     The two of you exchange disgusted looks, but your attention is brought back to the cottage by a high-pitch scream.
  924.

  1067.
1068.     She doesn't disagree. With the wailing Fluttershy on her back, Applejack and you bolt from the front door. The dead are almost on top of you now, but there's still just enough space to get by - another few moments, and there wouldn't be.
  1069.
1070.     You make the path and by then you're easily outpacing the dead. Fluttershy's stopped fighting, but it seems she won't ever stop crying.
  1071.
1072.     Applejack falls in pace besides you. "I can't say I'd have done the same thing, but..." she sighs. "I think you made the right decision." Fluttershy's wailing increases and Applejack gives her a jostle. "At least TRY to keep it down, before you bring the whole forest out on us!"

  1104.
1105.     The three of you keep on galloping until daybreak. The first streaks of sunlight peek over the hills and touch the tips of trees, returning a rose light to the grey, drab world.
  1106.
1107.     Fluttershy does stop screaming, but seems completely catatonic. Applejack seems disturbed enough by the experience not to want to talk any further. As for you, every inch of your body aches.
  1108.
1109.     "At least Ponyville's not far," says Applejack, finally breaking the silence. "Hopefully trouble ain't reached there yet."
  1110.
1111.     You crest the last hill just as the sun makes an appearance over the horizon. Dawn light rolls across the plains and fields and onto the town of Ponyville below.
  1112.
1113.     "Sweet mother of mercy..." Applejack murmurs. Even Fluttershy seems to rouse enough to look.
  1114.
1115.     The town of Ponyville is pockmarked with fire and smoke. From the distance you can see swarms of the dead roaming the streets, with the occasional living pony visible through a window or on a roof. One is in the street, but he doesn't last long. The train is wrecked just outside of town, blocking the route toward Canterlot.
  1116.
1117.     And above it all, you can hear the screaming, the rustling of rotting limbs, smell burned flesh and hair. It's hell on Equestria.
  1118.
1119.     "Mac and Applebloom are waiting for us by the town hall," Applejack says, less than certain. The town hall looks battered, but the main doors are unbroken. A sheet-sign hangs from the roof, which says 'Alive Insid' before running out of room.
  1120.
  1121.     >Then that's our next stop.
1122.     >Ponyville looks done. We might have to move on...

1192.     NEXT TIME, ON THE TROTTING DEAD
  1193.
1194.     "This plague is like nothing I've ever read about," says Twilight, awe in her voice. "It's horrible, but amazing. You know, I don't even know if it's magic-based?"
  1195.
1196.     "Try not to sound too impressed!" snaps Rainbow Dash. "Its out friends that're trapped out there with it and our friends that it's killing!"
  1197.
  1198.     ***
  1199.
1200.     "How can we trust this stallion with no name?" asks Rarity, peeking at you from behind the doors of the town hall. "I don't want to sound like a gossip, but his arrival and the appearance of these monsters is... conveniently coincidental."
  1201.
1202.     "Now just hold on a cotton-pickin' minute!" shouts Applejack. "Sunny might be a bit hard, but he's a good pony! Me'n Flutters might not be here right now if it weren't for him, so if y'wont let him in, ya might as well not let me in!"
  1203.
  1204.     ***
  1205.
1206.     "Too many," Mac grunts, before looking you in the eyes. "Too many of them, and too many of us. Trying to get this many outta Ponyville won't work."
  1207.
  1208.     "I don't like what you're implying, Mac."
  1209.
1210.     "I don't like it none either, but these're the hard choices, stranger."
  1211.
  1212.     ***
  1213.
1214.     "HEEEEEEY, new friend!" comes a shriek from down below. You turn to down into the cellar from whence it came and see only darkness. "I haven't thrown you a PARTY yet!"
  1215.
1216.     "Now isn't the time, Pinkie!" Rainbow Dash shouts. 'Now come outta there, before we have to come in after you!"
  1217.
1218.     And that's when the laughing starts.

1241.     This was fun. There was actually a lot of variety in the choices. You could've ended up sleeping in the farmhouse, could've won or lost Applejack's trust in different ways, could've ended up with her or Fluttershy dead or trusting/not trusting you from the cottage scene, and hell you could've made straight for town (and skipped straight to some of the Ponyville scenes, but I only had branches worked out for Ponyville if you didn't help the Apples).

  1327.
1328.     You, Applejack and Fluttershy take your time on the road into Ponyville. There's plenty to avoid - potholes, blood, ashes – and every time you hear the tell-tale moaning of a dead pony the three of you freeze. Your luck holds, however, and you make it into town without running into any packs.
  1329.
1330.     “Town hall ain't far at all,” Applejack reassures you. “See that big buildin' with the sign? S'gotta still be secure. Everyone'll be inside, you'll see.”
  1331.
1332.     Fluttershy continues to trail behind you two without comment.
  1333.
1334.     You must be luckier than you thought. Even with all the signs of struggle and chaos, the streets are empty all the way to the town hall. You start to wonder if maybe daylight scares them off.
  1335.
1336.     “We made it!” exclaims Applejack, the relief palpable. “Look! Way's clear!”
  1337.
1338.     Sure enough, the tall town hall is before you, and while there's boards over the windows the doors seem undamaged. Scattered about the square are bodies, many horribly ravaged, but none moving at the moment.
  1339.

1382.     "Hey there!" you call out as the three of you approach the door. "Anybody home? Hello!"
  1383.
1384.     You get no reaction. Fluttershy lets out a fearful squeak.
  1385.
1386.     "Maybe they didn't hear ya," Applejack mutters, before yelling at the top of her lungs "Hey! Anybody in the town hall? Big Mac! Applebloom! Holler if y'can hear me!"
  1387.
1388.     “Applejack?” a female voice calls from the other side of the door. “It's Rainbow Dash! I knew you'd make it!”
  1389.
1390.     “Can't say I've ever been happier t'hear your voice, sugarcube!” says Applejack, wiping sweat from her brow. “Are Big Mac and Applebloom in there with you?”
  1391.
1392.     “Yeah they're here safe and sound!” Dash calls back. “Hold on, we'll get the doors open!”
  1393.
1394.     After a moment's rustling, the doors open and a number of ponies come on. Big Macintosh is there, looking none the worse for wear, as is a blue mare with a rainbow mane – Rainbow Dash, you presume. Alongside them is a white-coated mare with a splendid purple mane.
  1395.
1396.     Dash lights up when she sees Fluttershy. “And you found Fluttershy! Way to go, Applejack! I never doubted you for a second!” She rushes up to Fluttershy to give her a hug, but Fluttershy backs away, looking at the ground. When Dash hesitates, Fluttershy hurries past her and into the hall. “What's gotten into her?”
  1397.
1398.     “And who IS your friend over there?” asks the third pony, giving you an uncertain look. “I don't believe we've met before. This is Rainbow Dash, Big Macintosh, and I am Rarity. And you are...?”

  1418.
1419.     “Big Mac mentioned him, but didn't want to say much. A bit of a strange story,” says Rarity. She looks you up and down. “I'm not sure what to make of you.”

1488.     "No offense taken, you're just looking out for your friends." You gesture for Rarity to lead on, which she is happy to do, and the five of you enter the town hall.
  1489.
1490.     The inside of the town hall is a spacious affair with balconies, a stage and space for arranging seating. A few dozen ponies are scattered about, from little foals to seniors, all looking sad and scared. A low susurrus of whispering hangs in the air.
  1491.
1492.     Within two steps a cry of “You made it!” cuts the air and Applebloom comes barrling into Applejack. She wraps herself around her older sister's neck in the tightest of hugs. “Ah knew you would! And you got Miss Fluttershy, too!”
  1493.
1494.     “Yep, we just about managed,” saysApplejack with a smile. She pulls her sister loose and puts her back on the ground. “Miss Fluttershy's feelin' pretty low, though. Why don't you and your friends try t'cheer her up?”
  1495.
1496.     “Me and Sweetie Belle'll do our best!” she exclaims, beaming, before her spirits falter. “Scootaloo's still missin', though...”
  1497.
1498.     Applejack's smile dies. “It's okay, sugarcube. You go on and play.” Applebloom scurries off toward a small, white filly - Sweetie Belle, you presume - while Applejack watches her go. "Ain't right..."

1511.     Big Mac looks to you and then over to Fluttershy. “Well, that's better'n dead. Thanks, stranger.”

1576.     Rarity lifts her head from the general conversation she's engaged in when you approach and breaks off to greet you. “Sorry about my... discourtesy, earlier, darling. These are trying times.” She goes for a smile, but it falls flat. “There's a lot that needs to be done if any of us are to survive.
  1577.
1578.     “Most dire is the supply situation.” Rarity turns and gestures widely at the ponies around her. “It hardly matters how many we save if we all starve or can't treat our injuries. We need food and medical supplies. And maybe some toiletries. And a few decorations for these drab...” she seems to snap out of her distraction. “No! Essentials only.”
  1579.
1580.     “Okay,” you say. “Where can we find this stuff?”
  1581.
1582.     “Luckily for us, today's market day,” says Rarity. “If you can make it to the market, there should be enough food left over to last us a few days. Nurse Redheart is... no longer with us, but her clinic should still be well-supplied.” She pauses, with a wistful expression. “I'd love to make just one more trip by my boutique, but... oh, don't be foolish old girl.”

1625.     "We might have a lot of injuries soon enough," you say. "Let's talk medicine. Where's this clinic?"
  1626.
1627.     "It's in town. There was a hospital at the edge of Ponyville, but they were swamped with cases in the night, and when the outbreak started it burned to the ground. The clinic was relatively untouched, however. Still... I did see a pack of those... creatures drag Redheart into the street and..." her voice peters out and for a moment Rarity's composure weakens.
  1628.
1629.     She regains it quickly enough and says "We can handle it together. Too many ponies and we'll attract attention, but with your help and my guidance we can be in and out in the blink of an eye!"

1683.     "Sounds good to me," you say, with a grin. "You lead the way and I'll keep you covered."
  1684.
1685.     "Oh really, darling?" Rarity replies with an arched eyebrow. "And who's to say I won't be the one covering you? But enough chit-chat, we have work to do!"
  1686.
1687.     The two of you head over to the door, which Applejack opens for you. "I should be goin' with you two," she mutters, as you pass.
  1688.
1689.     "Someone has to look after the place while we're gone. And DO try to keep Rainbow Dash out of trouble, will you?"
  1690.
1691.     "Hah! Leavin' me all the tough jobs, ain'cha?"
  1692.
1693.     Rarity leads the way through the devastated town. You see no signs of life, but thankfully no signs of undeath either. The occasional guttering fire, broken window or smear of blood does little for your nerves.
  1694.
1695.     "The clinic's just over... oh bother," Rarity mutters. She ducks into an alley and gestures for you to follow. From there, she points down the main road. "Look!"
  1696.
1697.     It's plainly a clinic, but a mob of dead ponies are clustered by the entrance. Most of the front wall's given way and every window has been smashed, and blood smears every available surface. You count at least ten, maybe more.
  1698.
1699.     "Too many to fight," Rarity hisses. "We need a plan!"

1736.     "Is there a back door?"
  1737.
1738.     Rarity pauses to think. "...Yes. We can follow the alleys, IF we stay quiet and out of sight."
  1739.
1740.     The two of you begin to creep through the alleys, taking your time as you pass over rubbish and ruin. Oddly the alleys are relatively free of the dead. "Most ponies must have tried for the road out of town," Rarity suggests. "I don't...think that worked."
  1741.
1742.     It's a much longer trip and there are moments when you freeze at a nearby sound, but eventually you manage to reach the alley behind the clinic. Even here, however, there are three dead ponies standing by the back door.
  1743.
1744.     There's a sharp intake of breath when you spot the three moving corpses. Rarity has a hoof over her mouth. "Sorry, dear," she whispers. "I... knew one of those ponies."

  1789.
1790.     "I HARDLY think that's relevant at the moment!" Rarity snaps, but she quickly regains control and glances around to make sure she wasn't heard. "No matter. There's nothing more we can do for them, and we need to get past. Hmm..." she looks around again, this time with a critical eye.
  1791.
1792.     "We must be quick and quiet, so as not to alert the ones around the front entrance. You draw their attention this way, and when they're close to us and sufficiently far from their fellows..." Rarity's horn glows, and a series of nails comes free from a wooden fence. "I take them down with these."
  1793.

  1879.
1880.     The three dead ponies start stumbling toward you, growling and groaning. They're a little faster than you expect, and you find yourself backpedaling back down the alley fast.
  1881.
1882.     You pass by Rarity's hiding spot, followed close after by the first dead pony. The nails fly into view and start stabbing it in the head with needlework-precision. It stumbles after a few hits, but eventually they seem to do enough damage to what's left of the head for the creature to go down.

Rarity once again struggles to regain her composure, but a few moments' heavy breathing and she settles down. "I'm fine."
  1933.
1934.     She looks down at the dead pony between you two, and says "Her name was Lotus Blossom, a friend from the spa. Her... partner? Sister? Is back at the town hall." Rarity pauses. "You know, I went there every week, and I never thought to ask anything about her."

1964.     "There was nothing we could do for her now," you say, stepping over the body to Rarity's side. "I'm sorry."
  1965.
1966.     "Don't be," Rarity murmurs. "Come on, there's still much we can do for the living."
  1967.
1968.     The two of you sneak in through the back door of the clinic, which is blessedly unlocked. A lot of cupboards and boxes have been open, but not much has been taken. Rarity quickly fills a sack with everything the two of you can carry - bandages, stitching kits, disinfectant, and pills of every description. You keep an eye out at the front entrance.
  1969.
1970.     The dead ponies outside are far too close, and some look like they're looking right at you. Rarity is delicate in her movements, however, and makes not a sound while filling the bags. "This is all we can take," she whispers. "Let's go!"
  1971.
1972.     With a bag on each of your backs, the two of you blitz out of the back door and back through the alleys, abandoning stealth for speed. Your luck holds, and you make it all the way back to the town hall without further incident.
  1973.
1974.     When Applejack opens the door she's surprised. "You two scored quite a haul there, can't say I was expectin' that."
  1975.
1976.     "I do love exceeding expectations," Rarity remarks with a smile. "Any trouble?"
  1977.
1978.     "None yet, it's quiet enough while the sun's up."
  1979.
1980.     "Thanks again for your help, dear," Rarity says to you while relieving you of the second bag. "I'll see about securing our new supplies. Talk to me again when you're ready to go after fresh provisions.

1989.     The Town Hall is filled with Ponyville survivors, congregating in small groups. They look to you and your new friends with just a shred of hope, but for the most part they're forlorn.
  1990.
1991.     You can see Rainbow Dash pouring over a map spread out in the middle of the room, making notes and taking measurements.
  1992.
1993.     Applejack is watching the door, looking out cracks in the boards for signs of trouble.
  1994.
1995.     Big Mac is up in one of the balconies, looking down on the hall.
  1996.
1997.     Fluttershy is curled up in a ball in one corner of the room, with Applebloom and Sweetie Belle nearby.
  1998.
1999.     Rarity sits among the largest knot of survivors, sharing calming words with them.

2140.     When it's clear you're not walking away, Fluttershy finally looks up at you with a cold, bitter expression.
  2141.
2142.     "I know you're mad at me right now," you begin. "Maybe you've got that right. I'm not here to argue about that. But look around you..."
  2143.
2144.     You gesture to the hall of sad, desperate ponies. "These ponies need you. You're not doing anyone any good dwelling on what happened. I'm not asking for you to forgive me or say I made the right decision, but at least try to keep it together. For your friends' sakes."
  2145.
2146.     A few moments pass as you stare each other down. Fluttershy takes a deep breath and gets to her hooves, shakily at first, but then smoothly. "I know," she says, in an even tone. "I know they need me. Angel needed me, and I couldn't help him either."
  2147.
2148.     You want to say something, but her wings pop out in a surprisingly forceful gesture. "But I won't let that stop me from trying. There's still plenty I can do, and I will. When I'm needed. Which my friends already know. What I don't need right now is to get in everyone's way and make myself a burden. I don't need to distract them with my feelings while they're trying to save Ponyville.
  2149.
2150.     "And most of all, I don't need a lecture from you about how to take care of my friends." Her eyes narrow into angry slits, and her wings slowly fold back into place. She settles back down on to the floor. "I'm here if any pony needs me. Any pony except you. Now please go. We're frightening the children."
  2151.
2152.     You turn and see Applebloom and Sweetie Belle watching from a respectful distance.

  2348.

2370.     You go over to Dash and her map. It's of Ponyville, and she's set down several markers. When you approach she jumps into the air. “I hear you've got what it takes to get things done. Good! That's the kind of attitude we need right now.”
  2371.
2372.     You give her a nod, and she smiles. “Here's the situation. We've got most of the survivors accounted for here. I've been doing flybys over the town and there's not many places left to hide. I know where two of my best friends are, but I can't spring them alone.” She drops back to the ground and points at the map.
  2373.
2374.     “See that big tree? It's a library. Twilight Sparkle and her assistant Spike the dragon live there. I thought they'd be front and centre with this thing but instead they're nowhere to be found! I need to get in there and find out what happened.”
  2375.
2376.     She points over to the far side of town. “That's Sugarcube Corner, a sweet shop run by the Cake family. Nobody's seen any sign of them, or Pinkie Pie who works there. We can't leave without 'em!”
  2377.
2378.     Dash's resolved expression fades, and she adds “There's... someone else I need to find too, but I don't know where she lives.”

I might be able to fly in, but I wouldn't be able to get them out – not to mention when they see me fly by sometimes the dead start following me."
  2474.
2475.     She draws a line across the rooftops. "I figure we can get there this way, cut down on our trouble. It's a long way to carry a pony, but I can get you up there no problem. Once we're close you just need to jump down and we can bolt for the door."

  2505.
2506.     Without any more warning than that she dives into you, and with a beat of her wings takes flight into the rafters of the hall with you grappled between her hooves.
  2507.
2508.     A window is open in the ceiling, and you and Dash pop through just as her momentum begins to flag. She drops you unceremoniously on the roof, where you're reminded of how fresh many of your injuries are.

2510.     "Not bad, am I right?" says Dash, with another grin. "Okay slow-poke, we've got a lot of sky to cover, so let's get moving. Just follow me!"
  2511.
2512.     While she can fly where you just walk, Dash at least has the decency to hover over obvious connections. A gangplank from the roof to a neighbouring building. A short alley she can lift you over. You start to make progress, and not a dead pony in sight.
  2513.
