  1. Expedition Name: Mist Veil Part 3
  2. Part of Series: Mist Veil Caverns ("All's Fair")
  3. Day: 81
  4. Leader: Broken
  5. Members: Broken, Green Light, Col Dusk, Dark Quill
  6. Objective: Explore Mist Veil.
  7. Result: Explored the majority of the western half of the caverns, found where the stone "key" goes.
  8. Complications and/or Casualties:
  9.  Pit trap claimed another victim, but two more boards made a solid walkway. Pit trap should pose no more threat.
  10.  Rattlecats attacked, minor cuts. Offending cat was injured in the throat.
  11.  Gong nearly deafened us.
  12.  Broken hurt himself with a failed Light Spell.
  13. Brief Description of Events:
  14.  Dusk fell into the pit trap, immediately after being warned of its existance. Two more boards have neutralized the pit trap. Broken's failed light spell launched him backwards. Followed a westward path, where we found a mosaic puzzle (http://i.imgur.com/MKXDYOB.jpg), which dispensed a stone half-cog. In the next room, Dusk decided to buck the gong and nearly deafened all of us. We also found a door to a chute, which dropped down into misty death. A pillory was in the next chamber. Upon returning to the main chamber, we decided to take the fifth and final path, which lead to a room with three skeletons of diamond dogs, four busted weapons, writing on the wall, and a stone steele (http://i.imgur.com/uPPXG0n.jpg). Decided to turn back after that.
  15. New Entities Encountered, with Brief Description:
  16.  No new entities. Found skeletons of three (3) diamond dogs. Writing on walls indicated presence of threatening creature called an Alot.
  17. New Information:
  18.  Due to Green Light and Dark Quill being able to read, we were able to decode some of the writing on the walls. In addition to the revelation of Alots, the writing suggested that the Diamond Dogs that once lived in this cavern was killed by a rival faction and robbed. The presence of a chute into the (presumably volcanic) heated vents below and a pillory nearby suggests that one chamber was used as a form of ritual punishment, sacrifice, and/or waste disposal area.
  19. Particularly interesting 'loot':
  20.  Half of a granite cog, dispensed from a mosaic puzzle.
  21.  Three diamond dog collars
  22.  A quarterstaff and greatclub
  23.  A crossbow with its bow broken in two places, missing a string
  24.  A sword that has nearly broken in half.
  25. Further Leads and/or Objectives:
  26.  A granite steele with rotating disks, a pattern on the face, and a slot for a cog. The Half-cog fit into the slot, leaving half the area empty. It is suspected that the granite key found in the first expedition fits into this cog. Objective: operate the mechanism in the granite steele.
  27.  Did not turn down one path in the western half. Still missing a couple of rooms and an alcove in the eastern half.

  143. [01:30] <Broken> You come to the entrance of a cave. Immediately, you can see how this went unnoticed from the nearby road. A weeping willow grows over the cliff face, and its vines partially obscure the cave mouth. From between the vines, a thick, lukewarm mist rolls out. The white mist appears almost the same tone as the stone around it.

  149. [01:32] <Broken> As you pass beyond the veil of fog and vines, you see writing scratched into the cave wall in a barely legible equestrian. The fog billows around you, making the remainder of the cave almost invisible.

  245. [01:49]  * Broken breathes a couple breaths and picks himself up. He then grabs onto the board in his pack and lays it down over the pit. He repeats with the other board. There is now a stable path of four boards across the pit.

  250. [01:50]  * Broken walks across the boards, checking for sturdyness. "Maybe later, I'll add crossbraces."

  254. [01:51]  * GreenLight puts on a smile.  That's not what's he's scared about.

  256. [01:52] <Broken> The cavern opens into a broad chamber, branching out ahead into five different pathways. In this chamber, a stalagtite has been fashioned into a column decorated with carved reliefs and dots. In front of the column is a short pedestal, fashioned from the same stone as the column. It bears a small, wooden chest. To your left, mist pours out of a gaping hole in the cave floor. A rope and pulley is the only indicator that this bare hole is a makeshift well.

The door is big enough that you may be able to squeeze through with some greateffort. Its handle is at the top and center, and mist pours through the cracks in the wood.
