Mist Veil Pt.1 Report
Expedition Name: Mist Veil Part 1
Part of Series: Mist Veil Cavern ("All's Fair")
Day: 68
Leader: Broken
Members: Broken, Arrant Hold, Green Light, Green Hooves, Dark Quill,
Objective: Explore Mist Veil
Result: Explored in a streight line down the center.
Complications and/or Casualties:
Discovered a pit trap. Caused a significant slowdown, but nopony was hurt.
Brief Description of Events:
Correction to map error uncovered the existance of a hidden cave north of town. Team explored in a straight line, discovering a stone "key" in a chest, a well, a column (see new information), and a nest for the Rattlecats. Rattlecats were encountered throughout, but Arrant Hold's animal empathy kept them from attacking (nat 20 FTW). Turned back after the nest. Pit trap caused more problems on the way out.
New Entities Encountered, with Brief Description:
Rattlecats: A small, black tabby cat with large ears and no eyes (no sockets for eyes either, as the skull has grown smoothly over it). Has a large bone spike on the end of its tail. Seems feral and skittish, but Arrant Hold seemed to have a knack for calming them down. Did not name them until the third expedition, although they may be called Alots.
New Information:
Cavern was once the home of Diamond Dogs. We do not know if they are still here.
Cavern is filled with naturally occurring steam vents. Possibly volcanic in origin.
The column is the work of a skilled hand at a chisel. Vertically down the center is a relief of a diamond dog with long hair, with four young pups beside her. The next panel depicts the four pups digging in the ground. Three of them discover jewels. Upon inspection, we found that the jewels could be pried from the column. The fourth pup drops below into the final panel, where we find him picking the mother's nose. This relief is contained within an ornate cartouche, with equestrian-like writing on either side of it. Wrapping around the remainder of the column are a series of dots, arranged in six rows.
Particularly interesting 'loot':
Stone "Key": A granite disk with key-like projections from its sides.
Jewels: Amethyst, Emerald, and Sapphire.
Bucket: Because Green Light.
Scroll Case: Standard equestrian make.
Rope with stone weight: has writing on it.
Three Rattlecats: They loved Arrant so much, he took them home.
Further Leads and/or Objectives:
Decipher equestiran-like writing on walls.
Decipher Column
Find out where the stone "key" goes.
Neutralize pit trap.
