30/12/13 MC Discussion

This discussion gathered information about previous adventures to the area north of the mountain range. We have found from this information that we are likely not in a volcanic zone, and that the steam vents of Mist Vale are likely a result of a magma pocket or sulfur vents.

 

It later discussed how magic interacts with healing, which led to how magic interacts with other elements of pony life. The concept that was developed was in keeping with the tagline "Friendship is Magic". Ponies all have an intrinsic connection to magic, an unconsciously manipulate it to alter their bodies. Magical energy flows into them due to social interaction. The more positive social interaction a pony gets, the more magic flows into them. They use this consciously to perform cloud manipulation, flora manipulation, magic proper, and to manipulate objects in their hooves. They use it unconsciously to promote and retard the division of cells, to accelerate healing and extend lifespan as is necessary. It is important to note at this point that the division of cells is how healing occurs, but our cells have a limited amount of division in them. Healing acceleration would reduce the life-span of a pony, while slowing down the clock on the division would increase it. Ponies such as the Mane 6 have such a high inflow of magic due to their interaction with each other and involvement with their community that it counteracts the magical demands to heal and keep from rapidly aging from their healing. This also means that visitors and good doctors caring for a patient will also accelerate healing by causing a greater influx of energy. In combination with proper medical care and pharmacological potions, a pony can heal quite quickly (like recovering from a shattered bone in three days). There is a possibility that this could be the secret to the Alicorns' being effectively ageless.

 

We then continued our discussion with attempting to understand how the Cutie Mark interacts with skills and magic. The concept in development is that the Cutie Mark is a physical sign that the pony in question has discovered how to let their magic flow out at peak efficiency, that is, they have found the skill that makes the most efficient use of their personal magic. Such as Rainbow Dash discovering how to fly the fastest she could, resulting in a Sonic RainBoom and her cutie mark, which illustrates how she accomplished it (Rapid descent to harness gravity in aiding velocity). In the case of the Cutie Pox, we have an outside source infecting the magical field the pony has, changing how it flows. This causes Cutie Marks to appear, and then force the behavior that they denote, seeking a way to be the most efficient.

[00:31] <Nova_Flux> To be more specific, me and ikea planed an expidition following the western bank of the main river up north out of the range of the map, only search a part of a range for possible magamite or loadstone. We did not find any. Further up we travel further and lead to believe that the moutain range went into the crystal moutain range and a spot for a dam in the future

[00:32] <Nova_Flux> Its just like a leafy plant that has a chromatic color to it AKA it was super shiny.

[00:33] <Nova_Flux> There was a flower that was found and it was a crystal structure in the form of a flower. Which is a key point in what will happen up there if people do take it with them or learn they will need it

[00:37] <Able_Tome> Aha, alright. Makes sense. What about this 'ash'? It's just there was a conversation about Mist Veil's volcanic flows (or rather sulphuric fume from vents that indicate volcanic activity) and that entire lore-bit about volcanic activity that Rain was talking about.

[00:39] <Nova_Flux> Oh no, there is defiently no volcanic activity here. This is, in what I believe, moutains fromed through shifting plates. Though the thought of sulfer vents could be something that would be further south.

Its bad enough we are in a forest area with the moutains being spooky and all and having somewhat of a pernment cloud cover on some of the peaks. (Which would make it better idea for how the map was made, being based on artistic creation and how the map we hold dear and true is not so accurate)\

[01:09] <Spark_Chaser> If magic is so intrinsic to pony way of life, I would say that they aren't harmed or changed by its passive aura. Only a direct application with mutagenic intent.

[01:09] <Able_Tome> Healing spells can cause problems, but that's because (at least with what was explained so far) they accelerate tissue growth

[01:11] <Able_Tome> Yeap, precisely. That was one of the warnings that one of the NPCs mentioned, especially about healing pots. Those healing pots that we've met so far were basically 'enchanted liquids' that mimick healing spells.

[01:11] <Rain_Drop> the thing i was wondering since it was naturally intermixed with the pony way of life it either does what was suggested with the whole acclerating life span OR be using the caster own energy to heal it

[01:12] <Spark_Chaser> If it merely replicates cells, rather than enhancing cell division, it would not result in a reduced life-span or mutation.

[01:15] <Able_Tome> As Lucyne said, iirc, immediate action healing pots (the way she intended them to be) was that their overuse would cause deformities/cancer... and that was one of the reasons why 'healing pots' were a niche market and they haven't pushed back Equestrian hospitals out of the business

[01:23] <Able_Tome> I see that as a possibility for most minor traumas, yeah.

[01:24] <Able_Tome> 3rd we've received 'antibiotics', 'vaccines' and other medicine, meaning that they do have remedies

[01:24] <Rain_Drop> NOw with the 2nd bit would that htne mean we have the cells regenerated then?

[01:24] <Able_Tome> And that there are bacterial/viral infections that can go around entire 'healing' factor

[01:24] <Spark_Chaser> We also have to consider the "magnet hands" effect their hooves have. All ponies definitely have intrinsic magical qualities, which might explain the healing factor. Don't do much, and the magic will accelerate your healing. Do a lot, and you won't heal fast at all. With application of skilled magic, drugs, and proper medicine, you're good as new in a few days.

[01:30] <Spark_Chaser> Also, there was some discussion earlier that mana was gathered into a Pony based off of social interaction (Friendship is Magic). Having lots of visitors and caring doctors could flood more energy into the patient, advancing their healing further.

[01:36] <Spark_Chaser> Also, since this natural healing factor is based off natural healing (cell division) it would normally shorten lifespan, but since the cellular metabolism can be modified magically, it is also possible that magic can retard the metabolism, which makes it so that they have longer lives.

[01:54] <Spark_Chaser> I saw MMC as being her absorbing the focused energy of the elements of harmony, which then forced her to ascend due to excessive mana. She became a giant star of magic, which then incarnated again as her alicorn form.

It was just a shell they used to communicate with the world. In her case, though, she still hasn't fully grasped her newfound connection, and Celi had to force her to incarnate. She is now going to work her way up to the sisters' level.

[02:01] <Able_Tome> Heh... CM magic's also quite a thing, considering that there are several jarring things that were showcased in the show

[02:02] <Able_Tome> On one side you have AB who was imued with new 'talents' out of thin air

[02:02] <Able_Tome> On the other side you have MMC where 'changed' CMs weren't giving that much of a talent, yet they were influencing the way pones were trying to 'act'

[02:03] <Able_Tome> Additionally you have Flutterbat CM change in the last episode

[02:04] <Rain_Drop> Three different things the showed it..

[02:04] <Rain_Drop> maybe all mixed together toexplain then we can implement it or leave alone depending onwath we all decide

[02:04] <Spark_Chaser> It may require you to have a particular bent for it. Her element was magic, that is to say, not taking anything for granted. She was the activator for the EoH, and it was represented in her CM as a series of stars around one larger one.

[02:05] <Spark_Chaser> As such, she was already attuned to the Magic of Friendship.

[02:05] <Spark_Chaser> And was able to ascend more easily than others.

[02:05] <Spark_Chaser> Due to the Mane 6 being heavily aligned to their element,

[02:06] <Spark_Chaser> It may be possible, but hard, for them as well.

[02:06] <Rain_Drop> on the first have it be that the CM had been confused by the potions signal that she was needing a CM and had found it OR be that something else had happen

[02:09] <Spark_Chaser> The problem of MMC could have been caused by altering the flow and "flavor" of the magic within them, thus altering their expression of magic and the pony's nature.

[02:09] <Able_Tome> The problem with the 'computer program' analogy is what controls what

[02:09] <Able_Tome> CM is 'visual representation' of a 'talent/attunement'

[02:10] <Able_Tome> And there's a CM magic that seem to influence how someone acts or even -link- someone with a talent/skill... or -not-.

[02:11] <Spark_Chaser> It's like how we get really cranky when we're sick. Something has changed our chemical makeup, which makes us do strange things.

[02:12] <Rain_Drop> and it gives you the urge to try them out and such while doing them

[02:12] <Spark_Chaser> Well, the CM shows up after you figure out your talent. More like discovering that one application of your magic that maximizes its efficient use.

[02:12] <Able_Tome> That cutiepox disease that was mentioned was bringing in a possibility of someone getting 'overloaded' with skills/talents that they can't control

[02:13] <Able_Tome> But they seem to appear out of nowhere

[02:13] <Able_Tome> Alright, so CM shows up when you figure it out... so what does it represents then?

[02:14] <Spark_Chaser> It's like the voltimeter saying you have a flow of power.

[02:15] <Able_Tome> Hm... alright. This would mean that this 'power' was there from the very beginning

[02:16] <Spark_Chaser> You just had to figure out how to use it right. Its based on you. We can see this in Spark Chaser, his explosions come rather naturally, so it may be his talent. But he isn't using it right, so...

[02:17] <Spark_Chaser> Bacteria altering the flavor of your magic, changing its efficient flow, and making it so that it's in overdrive.

[02:17] <Spark_Chaser> EVERYTHING becomes an efficient use of power.

[02:18] <Able_Tome> But suddenly knowing how to perform something that you've never knew how? Or scarecly knew?

[02:20] <Able_Tome> A group chant, however, won't teach you how to do something new

[02:21] <Able_Tome> Then again, we don't know what AB knew/tried at that point

[02:22] <Able_Tome> Maybe some of those 'talents' that popped out from the pot were something that she tried in the past?

[02:24] <Spark_Chaser> There could also be the possibility of "going with the flow". The magic is flowing out, and wants to express itself efficiently, so it forces the body to do it, like a hose flopping about because of water pressure.
