  1. >*bbbbbrrrrrriiiiinnnnnngggg*
  2. >Off goes the lunch bell.
  3. >All the colts and fillies get up from their seats.
  4. >They grab their lunches from the cubbies, and rush outside.
  5. >The picnic tables fill up quickly.
  6. >At this point, Cadenza would happily trot over to you.
  7. >'Anon, come sit with me!' She would say.
  8. >That is of course, if you attended school today.
  9. >But you didn't, so you'd have to imagine this is what's going on.
  10. >Walking through the royal gardens is much more peaceful.
  11. >You grip your apple and take a large bite.
  12. >Always delicious.
  13. >You have plenty more, too, so you feel free to enjoy them.
  14. >You had to bring enough for two, again.
  15. >Not one to go back on promises, it's time to make good on what you said to Chrissy.
  16. "I'll see you tomorrow, and every day after that..."
  17. >You softly recollect.
  18. >Maybe she'll ease up after the first 10-20 days.
  19.
  20. >The entrance of the Labyrinth appears in front of you once again.
  21. >You may as well install a ramp leading here from your bedroom.
  22. >As you have before, and are sure to do many more times, you enter.
  23. >Left, right, right, left, straight, left...
  24. >Like clockwork.
  25. >The visage of the Princesses comes into view, in it's stone glory.
  26. >As does the stone bench you love so much.
  27. >Well, most of it.
  28. >This time it happens to feature a small black ball with green mane.
  29. >Upon closer inspection, it's Chrissy, fast asleep.
  30. >Not the most comfortable place to sleep, you'd imagine.
  31. >Well, it's not like you haven't slept there before.
  32. >Who're you to judge?
  33. >Careful not to wake her, you take a seat on the other end of the slab.
  34. >Pulling another apple out of your pocket, you take a bite.
  35. >The crunch was a bit louder than you expected.
  36. >Evident by the stirring changeling to your right.
  37.
  38. >"Mmnnhh..."
  39. >It lives.
  40. >She rolls onto her back and stretches out her holey hooves.
  41. >"Not yet...5 more minutes..."
  42. >Heh.
  43. "Alright then, more apples for me."
  44. >That wakes her up.
  45. >She shoots upright, happily standing on the slab.
  46. >"Anon!"
  47. >If she was a dog, you could swear she'd be wagging her tail.
  48. >She almost is.
  49. >"WHAT TOOK YOU SO LONG?!?"
  50. >Stamping her hoof on the bench, you turn to her unamused.
  51. "I'm here pretty early, you know. Usually you have to wait until school lets out."
  52. >"Oh, scho~ol, I'm sure."
  53. >She giggles lightly.
  54. >"Anything for me?"
  55. >Rolling your eyes, you grab her prize.
  56. >The shiniest, reddest, most delicious apple of the bunch.
  57. >At least that's what she thinks.
  58. >She sits down and opens her mouth.
  59. >"Ahhhhn~"
  60. >Really?
  61. >You bring your near trademark deadpan stare.
  62. >After a few seconds, she notices the distinct lack of apple in front of her.
  63.
  64. >"Come on, gimme!"
  65. "Get it yourself."
  66. >You hold the apple up, and she outright refuses.
  67. >"No!"
  68. "Then you don't get an apple."
  69. >"Nnnnnn...."
  70. >She makes this noise that's a cross between a whiny pout and dying of hunger.
  71. >She's really gonna make you do this?
  72. >With a sigh, you hold the apple in front of her face.
  73. >*CHOMP*
  74. >And just like that, it's gone.
  75. >Now she's happily munching away.
  76. >"Delicious!"
  77. >Mouth still full, a piece of apple flies onto your cheek.
  78. >Ew.
  79. >You wipe it off and flick it away, taking a bite of your own apple.
  80. >The sun's high in the sky, a beautiful day, as usual.
  81. >It almost never rains in Cantorlot.
  82. >Like Celestia would ever want such blemishes on her city.
  83. >That sucks, though.
  84. >You like rain.
  85.
  86. >Chrissy swallows her morsel of deliciousness.
  87. >"You know, you should show up sooner next time."
  88. >Well now.
  89. "Excuse me?"
  90. >"You heard me! You promised to see me!"
  91. "I never said WHEN, I just said tomorrow."
  92. >"And every day after that!"
  93. >She ain't letting this go.
  94. "Yeah yeah, but I didn't say it'd be early."
  95. >"I wish I knew that before..."
  96. >She WAS sleeping just a second ago.
  97. >She might have been waiting here a while.
  98. >A long while.
  99. >Now you just feel like a jerk.
  100. "Well, I'm sorry."
  101. >"...accepted."
  102. >She turns her head towards you once more.
  103. >"Ahhhhn~"
  104. >Ugh.
  105.
  106. >A few apples later, and you're all out.
  107. >"Ahhhhn~"
  108. "Sorry, Chrissy, ya ate 'em all."
  109. >"WHAT?!?"
  110. >The disbelief in her voice makes it seem she thought the apples were eternal.
  111. >"But I'm still hungry..."
  112. "How can you still be hungry? You ate like 4 apples! Is there a hole in your..."
  113. >...
  114. >"..."
  115. "...pffffttHAHAHAHAHA~"
  116. >The first good laugh you've had in a long while.
  117. >And at her expense!
  118. >It's a good day.
  119. >The red rising on her cheeks doesn't seems to agree.
  120. >With a holed hoof, you're shoved off the bench.
  121. >"JERK!"
  122. >You even drop your apple on the ground.
  123. >However, you're still in a fit of laughter, so you could care less.
  124. >Once the giggles subside, you sit up.
  125. >"Well now we need more apple, don't we?"
  126. >Guess so.
  127.
  128. >"Go get some!"
  129. >Pretty demanding.
  130. "Why do I have to do it?"
  131. >"No one can see me, stupid."
  132. >Oh, right.
  133. >"Not to mention..."
  134. >Queue the most heart wrenching puppy eyes you've ever seen.
  135. >"You hurt my feelings..."
  136. >...girls are dumb.
  137. "Whatever."
  138. >Unfazed by the look, you brush yourself off and start walking towards the exit.
  139. >"Hey, you'll be back right?"
  140. >Worried, eh?
  141. >You turn back.
  142. >"I promise."
  143. >Satisfied with your answer, she lays down on the bench.
  144. >And off you go.
  145.
  146. >Right, straight, right, left, right, right, left...
  147. >Like clockwork.
  148. >As the gardens reappear, you casually stroll towards the-
  149. >*whomp*
  150. >And now you're flat on your back.
  151. >"Found you!"
  152. >Blaring pink p0ny with purple eyes pressed on your chest.
  153. "Cadenza."
  154. >She smiles.
  155. >"Didn't see you at school today."
  156. >Poison in those words.
  157. "You must have missed me."
  158. >You go to push her off, but she simply presses down harder.
  159. >"No, I didn't. YOU skipped!"
  160. >Guilty as charged.
  161. "So what?"
  162. >"Soooo, Aunt Cel's not going to be happy when she hears this!"
  163. >Stupid watch dog.
  164. "You're gonna rat me out?"
  165. >The devilish grin appears in a flash.
  166. >"Not if you listen!"
  167. >Oh boy.
  168.
  169. >"If you don't want your mommy finding out about this..."
  170. >She's not your mom.
  171. >"...then you'll do what I say."
  172. >You don't have time for this.
  173. "Fine, just get off me."
  174. >She obliges, moving as you stand up.
  175. >At the first moment of freedom, you start walking away.
  176. >"HEY!"
  177. >She runs after you, stopping in front of you.
  178. >"Stop right now or I'm gonna tell!"
  179. "You wouldn't."
  180. >Calling the watch dog on her bluff.
  181. >The next moment, you see she wasn't bluffing.
  182. >A deep breath is followed by an ear piercing shout.
  183. >"AUNTIE CELE-"
  184. >You stop her with your hand halfway.
  185. "Okay, okay, okay, just stop!"
  186. >You pull your hand away, and she smirks in victory.
  187. >"Come on, follow me!"
  188. >She trots away from the gardens.
  189. >You have no choice but to follow, and you feel like you won't be back for a while.
  190. >Sorry, Chrissy...
  191.
  192. >He's been gone for a long time now.
  193. >A really long time.
  194. >You're still hungry...those apples weren't enough.
  195. >But more importantly, you're bored!
  196. >He's supposed to be back by now.
  197. >With apples!
  198. >And entertainment!
  199. >...but more importantly...
  200. >...you're lonely.
  201. >Cheer up!
  202. >He'll be back soon, he promised!
  203. >He doesn't break promises.
  204. >Look around...still...not here.
  205. >The sun's almost down...
  206. >Where could he be?
  207.
  208. >You really hate tea.
  209. >You really hate parties.
  210. >Whoever invented tea parties needs to be kicked in the rear.
  211. >"Alright, Anon, would you like more tea?"
  212. >You groan audibly.
  213. >This is torture.
  214. "Yes..."
  215. >As Cadenza holds up the kettle full of imaginary tea, your gaze shifts to the window.
  216. >The sun is going down.
  217. >THE SUN!!!
  218. >You quickly stand up, knocking the kettle out of her hand.
  219. >"HEY, wha-"
  220. "The sun's going down, I gotta go!"
  221. >With that, you rush out of Cadenza's room, and out of her house.
  222. >The streets of Cantorlot are nearly empty as the night approaches.
  223. >This makes it easier to bolt to your destination.
  224. >Snagging a red treat from a nearby shopping cart, you drop a few bits on the ground in it's place.
  225. >You aren't one to steal.
  226.
  227. >A few minutes later, you arrive at the entrance of the infamous Labyrinth.
  228. >Left, right, right, left, straight, left...
  229. >You almost feel like plowing right through to the center.
  230. >As you arrive, the stone statue glistens in the dark, radiating the moon's light.
  231. >That light, however, reveals an empty stone bench.
  232. >She's gone.
  233. >You slump, the ache and exhaustion from your run catching up to you.
  234. >One final look around reveals...
  235. >...that you really are alone.
  236. >Taking the tasty fruit from your jacket, you solemnly take a bite.
  237. >Stupid Chrissy.
  238. >You said you'd be back...
  239. >...you just didn't say WHEN...
  240.
  241. >Meanwhile...
  242.
  243. >Chrysalis returns to her family's cave.
  244. >At the time, she felt...odd.
  245. >Not hungry, for sure...she had enough apples.
  246. >She felt...like something was missing.
  247. >She makes her way to the thrones, where her mother and father sat.
  248. >Her mother more excited than usual.
  249. >"Chrysalis, my dear daughter!"
  250. >Her mother steps out of her throne and bends down to give her daughter a hug.
  251. >However, the fervor of her welcome quickly dissipates.
  252. >"...Nothing."
  253. >She gets up, collecting herself, and returns to the throne.
  254. >"What a shame...I feel so empty..."
  255. >That was it.
  256. >Chrissy now knew how to describe her feelings...
  257. >Empty.
