AiE: Chapter 2.5-RainJack/AppleDash

________Continued from AiE 2-Informal Entrance___________

 

Things were looking up, sort of. You’re just glad you had evaded both the bullies and the rusted prongs of the pitchfork wielding filly

You were still shocked though, shocked about…everything

Talking ponies, falling through a barn roof, almost being beaten by bullies…then being threatened with a pitchfork.

Again, talking ponies came to your mind- you felt that you would never build up tolerance to a concept so foreign.

During all of your thinking you had stopped walking, Applejack turned around expecting you to be right behind her, only to find you staring off into the distance, unaware of your surroundings

“Umm Anon, are ya’ coming?”

no response-Applejack puts on a quizzical look

Wrapped up in thought about this new land, one you barely have a sense of, and formulating explanations about talking ponies, you can’t hear a word she says

Applejack trots over to you and erratically waves a hoof in your face, trying to pull you out of your stupor

“Hello? Equestria to Anon, hello…HEEELLLLLOOOOO!?”

The motion of her hand and the shouting quickly snaps you out of the daze, you jump slightly at the sight of an orange pony, then you remember where you are. You stand there waiting for her to say something, not realizing she had the same intention.

Ten awkward seconds roll past, neither of you talk.

Finally AJ decides to communicate

In her mind- you’re not a smart as she thought you were

“Hey, Anon” she says in a slow, demeaning way: the way you talk to a child

“we are gonna’ go to Twilight’s home” she takes forever with her words, hoping the drawn out language will register with you. You realize what is going on and try to put an end to it

“Oh yeah I know, I was ju-“

“No need to strain yourself talking” she interrupts “take it easy before you hurt yourself”

You give her a cold, dead stare: you didn’t need to say anything to get the point solidified

“sorry Anon, you just weren’t respondin’ I thought maybe you conked yer’ noggin’ during the accident” she says sheepishly

“No problem” you respond, “ I was just lost in thought, that’s all”

Her countenance dons a look of relief: “ good, then let’s pick up the pace an’ head on over to the library!”

“The library? I thought we were going to Twilight’s.”

“We are silly fil… being, she lives in the library”

Ugh, the more you see the less you begin to be shocked by things like that

And without another word, you and AJ head off down the dirt path, almost at the edge of town

Applejack looks apprehensive to continue down the path, she turns her head left and right to find an alternate route

“Hey” you question, ”what’s wrong?”

Now it’s applejack’s turn to give you a cold, dead stare: It hits you-

“duh, I’m not…one of you”

“whendja’ figure that one out Mr. Anon?”

“sorry, I’m just having trouble adapting, I don’t really know what to do or who to trust.”

Applejack looks at you, she knows you’re talking about her, a stranger, leading you around to met her friend who lives in a library.

“Oh phooey Anon, I wouldn’t hurtcha’”

“ I’m in no position to argue with you- let’s just get to twilights before anyone el-“

“anypony” she butts in

“huh?”

“The term is anypony Anon, and I’m trying to think of a way to getcha’ there without anyone else getting a peek atcha”

suddenly a light bulb springs from her head- instead of looking around on the ground for a alternate route, she turns her eyes toward the skies. You begin to get a worried look on your face

“What could this pony have in mind?” you wonder, only to be answered seconds later

Applejack explains “ I have a Pegasus friend, Rainbow Dash, she should be able to help us out.”

 *sigh* “ A Pegasus huh?”

“yeah that’s right” she says proudly, a smile on her face “RAINBOW….RAINBOW DASH!” she calls out into the ethereal blue

“do you really expect me to believe that garbage” you say with a drained feeling in your tone.

Almost as if she were waiting for her cue, a small cyan pony drops down from the sky- landing dead center between you and Applejack

“You called?” she delivers, adding a hint of ‘You need my help’ to her tone

The sudden appearance of another pony, one of such striking color and physicality causes you to jump in the air out of shock

“ I sure did Rainbow, this here Anon needs to get to Twilight’s, but I don’t want any other ponies gawkin’ at ‘em. I was a thinkin’ you could lift him up high and fly ‘em there unseen.”

“Woah, this guy’s a real oddball!” Dash rejoins, “What’d you say he was… an Anon?”

*sigh* “ My name is Anon, I’m a human being. I fell thr-”

“Oh man, this guy can talk? You’re right in calling me AJ, the ponies in town would be in an uproar if they saw this thing walking around.”

“That’s unfortunate and all” you begin to explain, “ but I don’t really feel comfortable flyin-“

“let’s dash!” the Pegasus cries out, spreading her wings zooming over to your shoulders,” I’ll get him to Twilight’s place in no time AJ”

“Hey, let me down, please”

Neither of the ponies seem to hear your protests, “Just make sure you fly high up enough that no one can see you carryin’ ‘im, okay Rainbow?”

“sure thing boss”

Rainbow dash gives a quick salute and with a few powerful flaps of her wings, ascends into the sky- carrying you, kicking and screaming, all the way up with her.
