  1. >The wind is picking up
  2. >It is playing a creepy tune in all the thick and branches.
  3. >It's getting a little cold and the clouds are covering the rarely visible parts of the sky over the Everfree.
  4. >All on their own
  5. >It creeps you out
  6. >And the thought that it frightens you makes you even more angry.
  7. >Oh you are angry.
  8. >You are positively infuriated right now.
  9. >You are also Twilight Sparkle.
  10. "Who does she think I am?"
  11. >The truth hurts doesn't it?
  12. >Especially when you are in a whole lot of pain already.
  13. >But you are not yet ready to accept the truth.
  14. >And thus you are mad
  15. "Treating me like... Like a little filly! Like a cripple!"
  16. >You kick a particularly thick branch with your hoof.
  17. "I'm not a cripple! I can take care of myself thank you very much!"
  18. >Yes you are a cripple. At least for next two weeks or so you can't even lift a feather with your magic.
  19. >Burnout is a very unpleasant experience.
  20. >You try to convince yourself, that this is just a three week long winter wrap up.
  21. >You fail miserably.
  22. >You are on the verge of tears again.
  23. >And then you scream in frustration again.
  24. "Was it so hard to make some potion and just make it better? But noooo, we would try to melt your brain with more rhyming and criticizing! As if I don't know how stupid i am already"
  25. >You were not stupid
  26. >You were tardy and inattentive while creating a safety measures checklist.
  27. >And you were pretty reckless to not give Spike this checklist to read 3 times through.
  28. >At least his hide is not even scorched
  29. >You stand for a second and try to sniff the smell of your slightly burned mane.
  30. >The smell is long gone, and the only thing you smell now is the wet moss around you
  31. >Your train of thought ends here as you suddenly become aware of your surroundings.
  32. >You have no idea where you are.
  33. >Apparently for the last hour or so you have been walking of the path to Ponyville in random direction.
  34. "This is just... bucking... dandy."
  35. >You suddenly decide to cuss.
  36. >Feels strangely good to channel some of your frustration in a strong word.
  37. >Also helps that there is no one around.
  38. >...
  39. >Your thoughts keep slipping away from the situation at hoof.
  40. >You need to focus and get home
  41. >You look at the sky to see where the sun is.
  42. >There is no sun. In the cracks between the thick branches you can see only clouds.
  43. >The moss is all around the trees so you don't know where south is too.
  44. >You recall the last minute and consider repeating the experience.
  45. "Well... Buck"
  46. >As you say it a loud crack shudders your very gut just as a bright flash of light illuminates the surroundings.
  47. >Immediately a hiss of rain brings your mood to an even better state.
  48. >You are getting pretty sarcastic.
  49. >One last drop that fills the glass of your misery is that Zecora actually told you so.
  50. >You just were so stuck up and willing to not show your weakness that you decided to go through the forest yourself anyway.
  51. >Even though she was pretty adamant that it will be raining soon and you should stay with her for the night.
  52. >Oh well. Now you are getting progressively more wet every second. And you have no idea where you are and how to get to Ponyville. Or to Zecora's for the matter.
  53. >You should really apologize tomorrow.
  54. >If you actually find the way home
  55. "Not "If", Twilight! When! Stay positive and everything will come out outstanding."
  56. >You don't really trust yourself at this point.
  57. >But you will manage.
  58. >Time to start walking - standing at one place will not help your cause.
  59. >You concentrate and try to cast a simplest compass spell.
  60. >Just a glowing needle that points to north.
  61. >You don't feel anything.
  62. >The horn doesn't even glow
  63. >This is still horrifying, but you are used to it already.
  64. >It's been a week since the accident.
  65. >You will be able to do basic magic in two more weeks.
  66. >You should expect full recovery in two months.
  67. >Doctor Gentle Breeze told you that you are very lucky and the consequences could have been a lot more severe.
  68. >Such a nice mare. You think that some long academic discussions about the recovery techniques, horn structure and burnout mechanics overall was the only thing that kept you sane.
  69. >And all the support your friends gave you for sure.
  70. >But even the bestest get well party can’t instantly heal a burnout.
  71. >It appears that potions can’t help with that too. And Zecora doesn’t even know which way to start as there aren’t exactly a lot of unicorns in Zebrica.
  72. >Your legs keep moving at a slow pace.
  73. >The ground is slowly turning into an icky mess.
  74. >You think that Rarity would not be even able to handle that. You are a strong mare - and just 15 more minutes and you will be home.
  75. >Comfy and warm.
  76. >Under your favourite blanket with a nice book.
  77. >But now you walk.
  78. >And walk.
  79. >And walk.
  80. >You try keeping a straight line, but that's not very possible in the Everfree.
  81. >This forest grows in the most ridiculous manner you can think of.
  82. >You can't even walk relatively straight - you constantly have to go around the fallen trees and particularly huge bushes.
  83. >The storm over your head is not helping the cause too.
  84. >You don't know how much time have passed.
  85. >You are dirty.
  86. >You are tired.
  87. >You can't do any magic.
  88. >You can't fly away from here.
  89. >You are lost.
  90. >You will die here. Just die of cold.
  91. >But you force yourself to move
  92. >You probably need to find a cave or any kind of shelter.
  93. >You can't build one - you don't have magic and have never been a pony scout.
  94. >You are on the verge of losing all hope and just falling to the ground where you stand.
  95. >The only thing stopping you is that it's really dirty.
  96. >Kind of a lot dirtier than everywhere.
  97. >It looks like someone dug a whole lot of ground and just dumped it here.
  98. >There is a whole small hill of relatively fresh ground in front of you.
  99. >A huge tree grows right from the middle of the hill.
  100. >There is next to no grass over the hill so you think it’s been here for around a week.
  101. >Who in the right mind would be digging so much ground in the middle of the everfree?
  102. >And where is the hole?
  103. >And then your eyes wander higher.
  104. >And you register several things at once.
  105. >There is a huge house sitting on the tree.
  106. >And the windows are lit.
