Title: Day 1 Journal Entry Author: Sling_Swivel Pastebin link: http://pastebin.com/Xhzd4zbp First Edit: Tuesday 14th of October 2014 02:24:11 AM CDT Last Edit: Tuesday 14th of October 2014 02:24:11 AM CDT Day: 1   Well, everything went better than expected, to say the least. The ride in on the train was longer than I had hoped it would be, though no one took the time to tell me exactly how long it would take. They were just happy to be rid of me. And I of them.   Got some sleep on the train, but not as much as I'd have liked. Kept an eye out the window for most of the trip, too. There's not much out here. Maybe that's a good thing.   Pulled into Town just as the sun was going down. Probably not the best time to show up somewhere you're not familiar with, but I gave it a go, anyhow. Didn't have much to lose, really. It's a respectable looking town, a lot better than some I've seen. Plenty of shops here and there, though the streets were pretty empty. Really wasn't sure what to expect or what I would find, but it didn't take me too long to encounter some of the locals.   Ran into a friendly Mare by the name of Aurora whom I spoke to for a time, ended up walking with her through the town. Didn't know really where we were headed, though it really didn't matter to me. She mentioned she lived on a farm, at least part of the time, with a fellow named Green Hoof. I really couldn't help but ask if there was any work to be found on said farm. It's only what I've been doing for most of my time here, couldn't hurt to stick with it.   She offered to take me to meet Hoof without a second thought and off we went. Still had no idea where we were headed in relation to anything else, but Aurora seemed trustworthy enough and I followed along, over a bridge and a ways out of town.   Didn't take too long to get out to the farm. Pretty standard looking setup. Wheat's the main crop, it seems. Hasn't been harvested yet, either. Definitely meant I had a shot at employment. At least for the harvest.   Hoof seems to take his security seriously. That sign out front was my first clue, when he answered the door with a slung crossbow, that was a second good one. I can respect anyone who takes matters of security to heart. Especially out on the frontier.   Perhaps it was a bit of sub-par humor on my part, though I suspect it was more that Aurora was vouching for me, that got the tough-looking green fella to lighten up. And he certainly did lighten up. Great guy, for sure. Let me in, offered me his couch, though I was, and am, too damn dirty to take him up on it. Do really need a bath. Tomorrow, for sure.   He runs the farm, even brews his own ale. Offered me a bottle, right there, for nothing! Pretty good stuff. Haven't had a beer in months! Didn't know how much I'd missed it. Really owe him for that one, Aurora too. Couldn't be more grateful for her taking me out here to meet Hoof. I suspect those two are together. Wouldn't surprise me. Both great folks.   And that job? Hoof hired me on. Seems it's mainly room-and-board at this point, not much external trade going on, as far as I can tell, but I sure as hell can't complain. He let me set up, here, in his barn, too. Not as comfortable as the bed back in the Inn down south, but I honestly feel better here than I ever did down there.   Maybe I'm jumping the gun a here, but I like this place. These aren't Equestrians here, these are People people. I've got high hopes, thus far, things are really looking up. I'll just have to see.   Tomorrow, need get that bath in. Going to see what sort of work Hoof's got for me and hopefully learn a bit more about the Town and such. Don't know if there are any formal procedures for moving up here or what. I wouldn't suspect there are, but I'll find out for sure soon enough. Will have to find that Pub that Hoof and Aurora mentioned at some point.   Well, probably best if I put out the lamp and hit the Hay. Tomorrow will be here soon enough.
