- The morning passed as Chiva busied herself cleaning the apartment and though I offered to help she shook her head. It was apparently her pleasure to clean up my place. It was never that dirty to begin with but within a couple hours it was spotless. I ended up taking a shower then dressed and flipped through the messages on my phone. There really was nothing of interest. No one had missed me enough to text or call. Chupa slept until amost noon before she woke then stretched. Her claws gouged the fabric of my couch. I winced when I heard the rips and she poked her finger through a couple of the newly made holes.
- “What's to eat?” She asked her ears twitching. “Do you want me to catch a rabbit? Or a cat?”
- “You eat cats?” I asked as I sat down my phone.
- “Nope but I could try one. Won't eat dog. Too stringy and tastes like dog food.” She yawned.
- “I've got eggs and some other things. I'll cook us lunch.”
- I opened the fridge and pulled out the carton of eggs, some mushrooms and a tomato. I looked over to Chupa and she was laying upside down on the couch with her feet kicking back and forth in the air. Thinking she'd like something more than just a basic omelet I pulled out the steak I had cooked two nights before. As I was chopping up the ingredients Chiva came into the front room and looked at me in the kitchen. It was basically the same room with only a counter dividing the space. I finished cutting up the steak and looked towards her.
- “Are eggs ok?” I asked not having much food for a vegetarian.
- “Yes eggs are good. Just no meat for me.” She nodded.
- “Omelets it is. Thank you for cleaning up.” I moved the steak to a pan to warm it.
- “Thank you for taking us in for the night.”
- I looked up from the frying pan and our eyes met for a moment. She blushed and walked away to finish with the laundry. I heard a tisk from the couch and turned my gaze to see Chupa upside down shaking her head. I shrugged then cooked up three omelets. The table in the kitchen was small and had books and papers stacked on top of it. It would be far too much effort to clear it off so I put the plates on the counter and we ate standing around them. Chupa took a bite of her Omelet then grunted and raised a brow. I moved to the fridge and pulled out the bottle of ketchup then drizzled a bit on top of the egg. She sniffed at it then licked the wavy line. After licking her lips she swiped the bottle out of my hand and drenched the top of the omelet in ketchup. She made short work of the steak and eggs then started drinking from the bottle itself. Chiva suppressed a giggle and I collected the plates and put them in the sink to wash later.
- Chupa was trying to get the last of the ketchup with her tongue when there was a knock at the door. I shook my head at the girl using her tongue inside the bottle then opened the door. Before me stood two women in windbreakers. Their features were soft and the thing that stood out the most were their large ears. I could see their tails behind their legs. The windbreakers had M.I.C.E. printed in bolt white letters on the front.
- “Is this some kind of joke?” I asked before they could speak.
- “Monster Immigration and Customs Enforcement is a joke to you?” The shorter took a step towards me.
- “Oh! Sorry but you are both mouse girls and I've never seen the Monster Immi... seen it as the acronym before.”
- “That makes no difference. You are harboring an illegal. We tracked her here and if you turn her over to us now you will not face legal consequences.”
- “Chivarosa said she was here on a visa.” I looked back to the kitchen.
- “We're not looking for a Chivarosa. We're looking for a Chupacabra.”
- From the door they couldn't most of the front room and the kitchen. As soon as they said the word Chupacabra, Chupa's ears flattened and she started to growl. I turned to towards her just in time to see her leap towards the door with her fangs barred. I pushed towards her and blocked the two mouse girls from being pounced upon. The momentum of Chupa's body knocked us both to the ground and I locked my arms and legs around her to prevent her from tearing their throats out. The mouse girls drew taser guns and fired into both of us. My muscles spasamed and we shook together like a couple of vibrators let loose on a carpeted floor. After the shocks died down and the pain started to receede I noticed a human man standing behind them with a tranquilizer gun in his hand. I had lost my hold on Chupa during the seizures and he tapped the taller woman on the shoulder and told her to restrain the Chupacabra. They zip tied her hands and feet and Chiva rushed to my side helping me up.
- “What's going on?” I spoke through gritted teeth.
- “We're taking her into custody.” The man replied then shrugged. “Sorry you had to be shocked. Couldn't risk her running or causing damage.”
- “She can't go. I said she could stay.” I grabbed on to Chiva and she helped me slowly stand up.
- I was feeling completely out of it and the words did not make that much sense to me. She was a vicious and wild woman as the night before had proven. I should have been happy to get rid of her and have Chiva all to myself. However there was a small little pin prick in the corner of my mind that said if she was gone I'd miss her. I focused upon that and watched as the man put the barrel of the tranq gun against Chupa's chest. She was starting to come around and had taken to uttering a low growl.
- “You can't take her. She has no place to go.” I spoke with more clarity this time.
- “Please don't deport her, she's done nothing wrong.” Chiva pleaded with the man. “She only tried to find me. We were friends long ago and were separated.”
- “Friends?” He looked back to Chiva then took a step away from Chupa. “Hmm... friends... Has she violated any other laws except crossing the border illegally?” He asked the taller mouse girl.
- “No sir.”
- “How many Chupacabra's are in our records?” He holstered the tranq gun.
- “None sir. They are elusive and solitary.”
- She followed his lead and holstered the taser. Unfortunately it was still connected to me and she triggered the shock again. I went down to my knees grunting in pain. Chiva came with me as my arm tightened and my body spasamed again. The mouse girl popped the unit out of the gun and I could finally breathe again. She flushed and looked completely embarrassed. The man took away the taser gun and slipped it into a pocket in his jacket. He shook his head then turned back to regard Chiva and myself.
- “You say she came to find you?” He asked Chiva.
- “Yes, we were friends in South America. She's been trying to find me ever since then.”
- “A Chupacabra friend...” The man trailed off.
- “She's my friend also.” I spoke up while still on my knees.
- “This presents an interesting opportunity.” He looked back to Chupa.
- I was helped up again by Chiva as the man crouched down and looked Chupa over. He canted his head to the side and she kept her low growl going. He tapped his fingers on the edge of his knee then stood and turned back towards me. The two mouse girls were just as confused as I was as to what he was thinking.
- “She's wild and probably best put in a cage. Yet... no one has ever heard of a Chupacabra having friends. There's a lot of paperwork to be processed for a deportation. There's a lot less for a temporary custodial visa.” The man tapped his chin while talking.
- “What?” I asked.
- “If you were willing to take full responsibility for her and keep her in check I'm willing to issue a temporary visa. Its not every day we get a Chupacabra. If I took her I bet she would come back to you. She would be under your care and supervision.” He pulled out his phone.
- “I'll do it.” I told him with a stern face.
- “This is not like taking care of a dog. She's got fire behind those eyes and is a potential explosion waiting to happen.”
- “I said I'd do it.”
- “Alright.” He turned back to Chupa. “You understand the situation? You step out of line and I'll shoot you myself. You'll be kicked out of the country and never get to see either of them again.”
- “...yes...” She said behind the growl.
- “Sorry I did not hear that.” The man leaned in
- “YES!” She shouted at him.
- “Good.” He laughed “I will send someone over with the paperwork and a medical team to take blood samples. Until she has a visa issued she is to remain at this apartment. Any violation of that and she'll find herself on the first jet out of the country.”
- “The barbs...” I motioned to the two stuck in Chupa's shoulder and my back.
- “I can take those out.” Chiva placed a hand on my shoulder.
- I looked at the horned beauty for a moment. She was relieved that a solution had been reached that did not involve Chupa leaving. She moved to look at the barbs in my back and I turned and looked at the ketchup bottle on the ground where it had been dropped. One of the mouse girls cut Chupa free and she snatched up the bottle then retreated to the corner to sulk. The three M.I.C.E. Agents turned to leave and I called out.
- “Wait.” I looked from them to Chiva. “Your visa, does it matter who holds custody on it?”
- “I don't... what?” She asked confused.
- “Can anyone be responsible for you while you're in this country or does it have to be your uncle?”
- “Anyone that signs as a sponsor but I don't...”
- “I'd like to take over Chivarosa's visa.” I turned quickly to face the man.
- It took her a second to process what I had just said. It took me even longer to realize I had actually said it. She gasped and put her hands over her mouth. The man took a good long look at me then chuckled. I placed both of my hands on Chiva's shoulders and looked straight into her beautiful blue eyes.
- “If that's ok with you.” I spoke softly.
- “Of course it is but are you sure? I don't want to be a burden.” She looked down blushing.
- “You never will be a burden to me.”
- “I'll send someone over with that paperwork as well.” The man stepped through the door. “I'll leave the rest in your hands.”
- The three agents left and closed the door behind them. I breathed a sigh of relief when they had gone and slumped back against the couch unfortunately landing on the barbs. I yelped half from the pain and half from the realization that I was now or would soon be the legal guardian of two women. While I was thinking about it Chiva asked me to take off my shirt and I obliged. Her warm and deft fingers gently worked out the barbs from my flesh and within a couple minutes they had both been removed. Whomever had designed the taser could burn in hell. Her fingers continued to sooth my muscles in the afflicted area. I closed my eyes and focused upon her touch. I let out a content sigh that was cut short.
- “Enough of that. Do me.” Chupa yipped.
- “Chupa!” Chiva shouted and let go of my back.
- I opened my eyes and saw a very topless Chupa only a foot from me. Her breasts bounced as she hopped up and down. She was completely unashamed and popped down next to me. She tossed the now completely clean ketchup bottle to the side. I stood and retrieved it while Chiva worked the barbs out of her shoulder. Looking at the bottle my eyes widened. The neck was long and in order to get every bit of ketchup Chupa had to have an incredibly long tongue. I tossed the bottle into the trash then leaned against the counter and watched Chiva at work. So far I'd be assaulted in the night. Woke up nude and covered in my own blood. Had the girl of my dreams staying for the foreseeable future as well as her friend. Not to mention I'd been shocked twice by a taser. So far not that bad of a start. Had I known what was in the future I don't think I would have survived another shock.
