- >You stare down at the gravestone, face just as unmoving as the engraved rock
- >You never thought it would be her to go first…
- ~~~~~~
- >You’ve been in the peaceful land of Equestria for 4 years now
- >After the initial grief of knowing you were trapped had passed you found the pastel wonderland to be more home than earth ever was
- >There is on war, no disease, no strife
- >In all honesty it’s a dream come true
- >But every dream can turn sour…
- >You are Anonymous and right now, you are helping Twi sort books
- >”Thanks for the help Anon, it’s been awhile since I could give Spike a day off” She says with a beaming smile
- >You return the smile
- “Think nothing of it, anything for a friend”
- >She opens her mouth to reply but is cut off as the tree rumbles
- >With a thunderous crash and splintering of wood, a cyan blur breaks down the door
- >“Rainbow!” Twilight starts, less then pleased with her now destroyed door “Why in the world woul-”
- >”Guys!” Rainbow interrupts, frantic “Come quick! Something’s wrong with Pinkie!”
- >Rainbow rushes back out urging you and Twilight to follow
- >The door is instantly forgotten as you and the unicorn chase after the prismatic pegasus
- “Whats going on Dash?!” you ask as you all set a hellish pace to the hospital
- >Dash looks almost ready to cry “T-they don’t know! We were having lunch and the she just collapsed!”
- >Shit
- >This sounds bad
- >Still full sprint, you all barrel into the hospital lobby, out of breath
- >Dash flies up to the nurse attending the desk “Pinkie’s room, quick!”
- >The nurse looks like she just swallowed a bug at the name, but nods and leads the three of you to room 201, where the others were sitting about gloomily
- >”Please be careful with her, we are not sure what’s wrong and whatever it was, it put a huge strain on her heart” the nurse warns as she trots back out
- >You gulp and slowly, almost painfully look at Pinkie
- >As soon as you do, you wish you hadn’t
- >Laying motionless one the white bed, hooked up to IVs and a heart monitor with her eyes closed, is Pinkie
- >She…she’s so still…
- >You blink and lick the inside of your mouth which had gone dry
- “Rainbow? What were you and Pinkie doing before…”
- >Dash blinks away tears and looks to you “We were just having lunch at Sugar Cube Corner, I don’t see…”
- >You tune out Rainbow as one thought comes to mind
- >No…
- >No not Pinkie…
- >Of all the p0nies…
- “Girls…” your voice cuts though all other sounds
- >All of them fix their eyes on you
- “I think I know what’s wrong with her”
- >Everyone of them gasps and starts talking at once, filling the room with a din
- “Girls! Enough!”
- >All of them fall silent
- “This is a bit of a long shot, but I think Pinkie is in a diabetic coma…”
- >Silence…
- >”Anon…” Fluttershy’s voice echo’s quietly “What’s ‘diabetic’?”
- >You feel a pain lance at your heart
- >There was no such thing as disease as severe as diabetes here
- >How could they understand?
- “It means…her body can’t regulate sugars properly anymore”
- >Another tense silence
- >”Well, how do we fix it?” Applejack asks, her southern twang shaky
- >You wince and turn your head
- >You could hear a pindrop, then
- >”Anon, this….this isn’t funny! Tell us how to fix it!” Rainbow yells, getting right up in your face, her eyes blazing
- >You mumble your answer
- >”What?”
- “We can’t…”
- >”You, you can’t be serious, Anon stop it!” Rainbow roars into your face
- “I AM SERIOUS!”
- >You turn away to compose yourself, trying to make it hurt the least you can
- >Finally calmed some, you turn back around
- >Looking around the room and feel your heart break with every face you look at
- >Applejack just sits there staring at nothing, tears pouring down her face
- >Rarity has turned away, her shoulders heaving with barely suppressed sobs
- >Fluttershy may as well have collapsed in on herself, a look of pure devastation frozen to her face
- >Twilight just shakes her head, denial written on her face as tears leak from the corner of her eyes
- >You look for Rainbow, only to see the door open, and hear heart wrenching sobs come from down the hallway
- >Finally you can’t hold it anymore
- >Putting a hand to your face you stop trying to hold it in
- >For the first time in years, you cry
- ~~~~~~
- >A week later in the hospital, after a message had been sent out for you and the others, you all wait for the doctor in front of you to talk
- >He clears his throat “I’m sure the last week has been less than pleasant for you all” he says, glancing around at the haggard p0nies as well as you
- >He sighs “I have both good news and bad news”
- >You feel yourself lean in, not wanting to miss a word
- >”The good news, Pinkie has woken up”
- >A round of cheers erupt from the girls
- >You just can’t help it, you join in too
- >Pinkie’s ok!
- >The doctor waits patiently for you and the others to calm down before continuing “The bad news…her heart’s grown weak from the initial episode as well as her coma, she…”
- >He sighs and steels himself “She won’t make it through the night…”
- >Every bit of elation you feel dies, only to be replaced with the sensation of someone punching you in the stomach
- >This…this is a wonderland…
- >Things like this don’t happen!
- >The doctor looks away “She wants to see you before…” he can’t finish and just starts walking to Pinkies room
- >Numb, you follow, hardly even noticing the others
- >Every step sounds like thunder on the tile floor
- >Pinkie, the ball of sunshine, the happiest p0ny around, the most likeable creature to ever live…
- >Is..
- >Is..
- >NO!
- >This will blow over!
- >She will get better!
- >She is Pinkie Pie!
- >You don’t get her down
- >And-!
- >Those thoughts come to a screeching halt when you finally to the room
- >Looking as fragile as glass and pale as porcelain on the bed is Pinkie…
- >She turns her head slowly, smiling when she lays her dulling blue eyes on all of you
- >”Hey guys…” she says, her voice quiet and subdued, a farcry from her usual loud and bubbly tone
- >No one can say anything, too paralyzed from what they see
- >She smiles just a little wider “I guess every party has to end sometime. Right?”
- >All at once, you and the girls rush up to her, denying what she said with a passion, a ruckus of cracking voices and crying
- >She holds up a hoof and you as well as the girls can’t help but fall silent
- >”You silly-billys, don’t be upset…I’m not am I?”
- >She turns her head to look at the ceiling “It’s just my time I guess…but I’m not sad, you guys have made this the most super fun wild ride I’ve ever had!”
- >The heart monitor begins to slow
- >”So I want you all to know”
- >The monitor slows further
- >”That every one of you…”
- >You can’t help it, you’re bawling like a baby with the girls
- >Pinkie smiles softly “…Are my very best…”
- >The monitor slows to a crawl
- >She closes her eyes
- >”…Friends…”
- >Flatline…
- ~~~~~~
- >You feel streams of tears as the memory fades
- >Looking back down at the gravestone, you gulp the lump in your throat away before you speak
- “I hope you’re having a sweet party up there Pinks…It’s boring down here without you…”
- >You look up into the sky
- >They say every cloud has a silver lining
- >What a terrible day for the skys to be clear
