  4. >This always happens.
  5. >Every single time you stop by somewhere, even for a night, you become an outcast.
  6. >This time you thought it would be different.
  7. >But this time ended up the exact same.
  8. >You just gotta get out of here, again.
  9. >It had become a routine of sorts for you.
  10. >Get to town, get kicked out of/leave town, find new town.
  11. >You hear drips.
  12. >Oh Luna, why are you crying? You should be used to this by now!
  13. >Finally, you come back to the edge of P0nyville.
  14. >Time to go.
  15.
  16. >Grabbing a flashlight, you head out in search of your house-guest.
  17. >Surely Lyra didn't offend her that badly?
  18. >Lyra has never been one for tact but...
  19. >Whatever. You still need to find your new friend.
  20. >The only thing that is a problem though...
  21. >Where to look?
  22. >Due to her love of the night, you assume the best place to start is the Everfree.
  23. >The warnings you had been given though...
  24. >”T-things work differently there.”
  25. >”Some think it's supernatural, unbound by the laws of nature we abide by.”
  26. >”Ah even saw a stack of sticks get up n' start walkin' one time.”
  27. >That last one was the most concerning.
  28. >Whether for Applejack's mental health or for your safety, you're unsure.
  29. >You continue on your journey warily.
  30. >At the outskirts of P0nyville, you turn around, a bead of sweat dripping down your forehead.
  31. >Well, onwards you march.
  32. >It shouldn't be long now.
  33. >Passing the Apple family barn, you remember Applejack's warning.
  34. >The eerie silence of the farm is anxiety inducing.
  35. >How is a farm, with animals, even remotely quiet?
  36. >Your steps sound like a hammer upon anvil, your nerves betraying you.
  37. >Passing Fluttershy's cottage, the flap of bird wings startles you.
  38. >As they settle, variations of caw-caw's assault your ears.
  39. >Heart rate going at a steady 120.
  40. >Finally, you're outside the ominous forest.
  41. >The flora seems to loom over you, as if to say “Turn back”.
  42. >You're almost betrayed by your nerves.
  43. >But you know that you will be betraying your friend if you do that.
  44. >With a deep breath, you trudge off into the dark.
  45. >Hisses and hoots instantly attack your eardrums.
  46. >It prompts your legs to go faster.
  47. >The rustles and growls only seem to get louder and louder.
  48. >Strolling turns to brisk walking, which turns to jogging, which turns to sprinting.
  49. >You try one last thing.
  50. “ECHO! WHERE ARE YOU?!”
  51. >...
  52. >Nothing.
  53. >Not a single peep.
  54. >Now you're stuck in perhaps the most dangerous place in Equestria.
  55. >Alo-
  56. >With a crash, you fall to the ground and bash your head.
  57. >Fearing the worst, you cower up into a ball, awaiting your grim fate from some monster.
  58. >Instead, nothing happens, and you hear a sob.
  59. >Peeking upwards with one eye open, you're not met with the ugly face of a cockatrice or otherwise...
  60. >But instead with the tearful face of Echo.
  61. >She looks at the ground eyes closed, her lip quivering.
  62. >”Why do all the other p0nies hate me?!”
  63. >Standing up, you look at her concernedly.
  64. “Why do you say that?”
  65. >Out of nowhere she becomes venomous.
  66. >”Didn't you SEE the way she looked at me?! Are you b-blind?!”
  67. >Step back slightly.
  68. “Hey, why are you shouting at me? I came all the way out here to look for you.”
  69. >”Yeah, well I didn't ask you to!”
  70. >Silence for a few moments.
  71. >”...I'm sorry. I just wish that I wasn't a complete outcast here.”
  72. >Does she know who she's talking to?
  73. “Echo, look at me.”
  74. >The batp0ny does as instructed.
  75. >”Huh?”
  76. “Do you think I was instantly welcomed with open arms to P0nyville?”
  77. >She scuffs a hoof along the floor.
  78. >”I guess not... But everywhere else has been the same.”
  79. >You sigh, and frown at her in sympathy.
  80. “Maybe you just haven't stuck around anywhere for long enough for people to see you're a true pers- p0ny.”
  81. >Contemplating this, she looks at the floor.
  82. >”Well... I guess you're right.”
  83. >Her tears have stopped.
  84. “So, are you gonna come home?”
  85. >She nods.
  86. “Good.”
  87. >She smiles meekly.
  88.
  89. >The way back seems a lot less horrific with a friend by your side.
  90. “So, how about that zebra alchemist?”
  91. >”Huh?”
  92. “You remember, you weren't sure if you were seeing things?”
  93. >Her eyes light up.
  94. >”You mean... you remembered something about me?”
  95. >Raise a brow.
  96. “Well, why wouldn't I? You're my friend.”
  97. >She grins wildly.
  98. >”I... I never had a friend before.”
  99. >She looks as if she's trying to go in for a hug.
  100. >You're unsure if you should, but...
  101. >Wrap your arms around the batp0ny.
  102. >She almost purrs in your grasp.
  103. >”Ha, I have a friend.”
  104.
  105. >Back in your home, you prepare to go to bed.
  106. >Lying on the couch, you turn to the mare.
  107. “Echo, promise me something.”
  108. >She turns before she puts a hoof on the stairs.
  109. >”Promise you what?”
  110. “Never scare me like that again.”
  111. >She blushes, and shies away.
  112. >”I promise.”
  113. >You hear some trots, then they stop.
  114. >”Uh... Anon...?”
  115. “Yeah?”
  116. >”C-can you... sleep next to me tonight?”
  117. >You're surprised at this, but...
  118. “Sure.”
