Personally I don't really like the idea with the timberwolves, the whole concept of "The whole group fails but one beats the challenge with courage" seems too overused for me.
But since I don't have a better idea it should still work if done properly.
 
I like the idea of her getting a tour through Ponyville and the deerpony being not really impressed, maybe add a scene with Cherilee trying to teach her pony stuff since she will most likely be pretty uneducated.
 
Also am I the only one who thinks this episode would have some parallels to MMC? The whole being forced into something that isn't your "destiny" but in our case actually ending with a (better) lesson? (your home is where your friends and family are etc.)
 
Zecora should have a part in the story too in my opinion, I mean she's a zebra living amongst only ponies and being completely fine with it, just like deerpony is a pony living amongst only deers and being fine with it.
