  1. >It had been an ordinary spring day in Ponyville when it happened
  2. >Everypony was going through their everyday rotations like usual
  3. >Little foals scampered to and fro
  4. >Stallions saddled up for work
  5. >Mares did what they do best
  6. >There had been no omens or warnings that could of possibly forewarned the citizens of Ponyville, the citizens of Equestria for that matter on what strange series of events would transpire in the next few days
  7. >In a nearby school house, a bell rings as a class of giddy foals scramble outside
  8. >A trio of fillies sticks out from the rest, parting ways from the group to race towards their mutual clubhouse
  9. >Today was Friday, signaling the beginning of the weekend
  10. >A time for relaxation and rest... But for these fillies, it was the time in which they would finally earn their cutie marks
  11. >They boarded themselves up in their treehouse and began excitedly spinning off wild and crazy ideas on how they would earn their cutie marks together
  12. >Sure they had done this all before, but this was different
  13. >The beginning of weekend is like a beginning of a new year for a child… a new life
  14. >Lost possibilities of yesterday become the guaranteed prospects of tomorrow
  15. >Then again, it is equally fair to say that for any new beginning
  16. >And tonight was the beginning of something far more momentous than a measly two-day vacation…
  17.
  18. >As the dusk loomed overhead, the girls decided to camp out in their clubhouse together
  19. >Soon enough, the excessive talk of cutie marks lost its zest and they all agreed to decide on a plan sometime tomorrow
  20. >The fillies instead began to play games, chatted about venom-less gossip and had fun in the ways that many other foals do
  21. >Meanwhile in the far off reaches of Canterlot, a cobalt-blue alicorn looks over her tower's balcony to admire the beautiful night sky she herself had fashioned into existence
  22. >With her sister gone, who had long since fallen asleep, the power and duties of a Equestrian monarch had been passed effortlessly to her
  23. >The goddess of the Moon, known to her people as 'Princess Luna', would have spent the remainder of her night  inspecting her arrangement of stars and the vivid dreams of her subjects
  24. >By Night, she was ruler of her country with absolute power but by Day, it was Princess Celestia’s turn
  25. >Naturally, the nights in Equestria were rather… uneventful
  26. >No ponies came to offer petitions or praises to her
  27. >But neither were there changeling invasions or boring ceremonial duties
  28. >That was one way to look at it
  29. >Princess Luna had only recently returned to her position of power after 1,000 years of solitary confinement
  30. >For her, the amount of time she spent on the moon was superficial
  31. >Nothing greater than a 5-minute time-out for an immortal alicorn
  32. >But Equestria had changed while she was forced to remain stagnate
  33. >It would take time for her to adapt to this new world, and she accepted that
  34. >In fact, she had made significant progress in the months pass… but Luna knew she was not yet ready to rule side by side with her sister again
  35. >Soon… but not yet
  36. >For now, the Princess of the Night would plainly watch over the dreams of her subjects
  37. >While she learned their way of life through their imagined fantasies, she would also ward off any nightmares or foul imaginings
  38. >That had not changed
  39. >She was still their Princess and they were still her subjects
  40. >She had vowed for life to protect her little ponies when she accepted the crown so long ago
  41. >Even if now she could only shoo away their troubling thoughts
  42. >The mare become slightly startled when something flashes in the corner of her eye
  43. >She turns from the dreams and to her night sky once more, looking up to a star that was burning just too bright
  44. >Luna positions herself behind her telescope to better study the apparent flaw she had overlooked
  45. >She focuses on the burning light to see it was in fact… not a star
  46. >Its form was of a black metallic ball and it was surrounded by an aura of white light, probably eclipsing a star
  47. >Luna continued to study it, puzzled
  48. >The last meteor shower she had scheduled was to be three weeks from now
  49. >’What in the hay was it?’, she wondered
  50. >Suddenly, the black matter begins expanding and the white light distorts into scorching red flames
  51.
  52. >The alicorn jumps back from the telescope when she realizes that it was not growing or expanding in space
  53. >It was coming closer… it was falling
  54. >She stands there in naked shock as the unidentified object falls from the stars in a giant mass of burning metal
  55. >Ripping itself from her night sky, it plummets down to earth. Each passing second, approaching faster and smoldering brighter
  56. >And that’s when Luna hears it
  57. >The stars… they’re crying
  58. >Their shrieks and howls blind her thoughts, as well as her ability to focus her magic
  59. >The Guardian of the Night can only sit and helplessly watch as the orb of twisted metal roars over her head
  60. >Luna follows its path in horror as the object twists into a path towards Ponyville
  61. >The object soon disappears from her sight as it flies miles away…
  62. >Only moments later does she hear the subtle echo of the crash
  63. >In an instance, the cries stop and she is able to regain focus
  64. >But even then, Luna hesitates
  65. >’What is it? Where had it come from?’ These were all probable questions running through her head
  66. >But the most prompt was surely… ‘What do I do?’
  67.
  68. >The mare suddenly bolts off the balcony and back to her chambers
  69. >Making haste, she orders the pair of bodyguards to assemble a platoon of the Royal Guard immediately
  70. >Now was not the time for indecisiveness,
  71. >Now was not the time for hesitation!
  72. >When they had assembled in the Royal Court, the Princess of the Night filled them in while giving them their orders
  73. >Ponyville, for all she knew, had been destroyed
  74. >She had felt many dreams collapse the moment the ‘supposed’ meteor made impact
  75. >That could mean one of two things…
  76. >Luna:”You all should now know the gravity of the situation… I BEQUEATH TO THEE THIS DUTY, NOW BEGONE!”
  77. >In her state of racked nerves, the princess accidently reverts to the Traditional Royal Canterlot Voice
  78. >As its volume echoes throughout the palace, the winged night guards take off in flight
  79. >Their primary objective was to verify the safety of the citizens
  80. >Their second objective was to search and located the mysterious object that fell from the sky and report back to Princess Luna
  81. >And so the platoon of jet black pegasus flew out into the night, towards the small quaint town of Ponyville
