Name: The Runes of Power
Type: RPG (AI companions)
Genre: Sci-fi / Fantasy
Setting: Takes place in a mostly Fantasy setting in Northern Ravashira, a land filled with numerous kingdoms, lakes, and icy areas further north. In all it has a very Mideval Europe feel to it mixed with colonial America.
Back story:
The tale of Gino-Lee did not end on a happy note. Gino-Lee was poisoned in the final battle with the Shining Black Dragon, a poison that slowly ate away at his strength over the years. His wife was forced to leave him by the order of her people from a far away land. She was only supposed to watch them not interact, let alone marry. For her sake and their’s she had to leave behind her ever weakning husband and their five year old child, Staltos-Lee.
Twenty years later the boy has become a man, and now calls himself Stratos the Sky Warrior, just Stratos to his friends. His adventures have led him into the land of thousand kingdoms and perhaps a million lakes. Here he has stumbled upon a tense situation between several kingdoms, bandit gangs, and other nefearious groups as they seek out the Rune Stones of Power *not a very creative name*. A wizard discovered these ancient weapons from the era of the Rhulan Empire, magical devices that survived the fall. Stratos had come here seeking the stones after uncovering one (The Air Stone), which amplifies his own aerial powers, thus he is on a quest, driven by the stones to find the others and take them away from this land.
Characters:
Stratos the Sky Warrior: A strapping young man about 25 years old, short brown hair, wears a green tunic, brown pants, and has a brown strap across his chest diagonally for holding the rune stones he finds. He doesn’t use a sword, but instead relies on martial arts and magic (especially the rune stones).
Hyatha-Aria: A Kuhrai priestess, the first companion he comes across is this alien after her ship crashes. She has a sad story of looking for her long lost son who she had heard had wandered off into Northern Ravashira years ago. She has powerful healing magic and attacks.
Colonal Friggs: A cryo-kinetic swordsman soldier of the kingdom of Acatara. He is a young man who seeks to stop the war. He believes the Rune stones are an evil curse left behind by the dark empress.
Melady: A pyro-sorceress from the kingdom of Back-Back, mortal enemies of Acatara. She is seeking to end the war…or is she a spy?
Gun-Man: A man dressed in brown ponchos and a cowboy hat (very American Wester). He is mostly machine; a cyborg. The group come across this mysterious man in a pod out in the woods during their adventure. He has no memory of his past or why his pod was in this forest. But he is a skilled gun-man, and finds the idea of kingdoms going to war over magic rocks ludicrous.
Gameplay:
Incompases most the trappings of a traditional RPG, experience points, items, towns, armor, weapons, monster battles *although the monsters can be seen on the map* touching them causes the player to enter battle with the monster or a group of them, cut-scenes as the story progresses. The real difference lies in the battle system.
This game uses a real time battle system, the player can pause to access items and activate spells (selecting between the up to five fighters in the battle at a time). The player has control over one character mainly in the battles, with an AI controlling the others. The player can switch battle control (each battle will defauly to Stratos) during battle as well as the above mentioned activating items and specials.
