Name: Society of Sorcery
Type: Visual Novel (with some RPG combat moments)
Genre: Sci-fi / Fantasy
Setting: The main Hub is a white wash sky town with elements of Rome, Egypt, Greece, China, Japan, Medieval Europe, and others into the décor depending on the home or neighborhood. The player will also be able to travel to other worlds with distinct time placements such as Feudal Japan, Tribal, Noir, Steam Punk Victorian, and others.
Back story:
When the Aesperia Ark Ship was traveling from their universe to a better one it was attacked by the military might a corporate alliance. During the attack Rhoan went outside the ship to help defend it while Rhulan was busy focusing her power and the ship’s power to open a massive inter-reality wormhole. The attack caused the wormhole to destabilize and Rhoan was thrown into parts unknown; the Ark ship however ended up in a strange between universe known as “The Other World” and landed on a flat version of Earth.
The Aesperians named this new world “Aesperia” and Rhulan had to stay to help establish a new government. Twenty years later, satisfied she left to search for her brother. Her power allowing her to traverse wormholes without a suit or ship caught the attention of the Society of Sorcery, a powerful group that exists outside of normal space time.
In this place she studies ancient and powerful secrets of magic beyond what she had picked up on her own or found. All the while she is using their secrets to traverse the multi-verse searching out powerful energy signatures that might be her brother.
Characters:
Rhulan: When the story begins she wears a black leather combat suit. As the story progresses she will pick up a variety of outfits that the player can decide to switch her in and out of (different outfits might get different responses from locals and effect the story path). These include various witch, sorceress, and sci-fi outfits among more conventional stuff.
Rhulan will encounter other characters who she can decide to bring along with her, thus effecting their affinity points for her; such as Iris, Isis, Odin, Ethera, Ra Amonis (hidden path), and Xin the cat-witch among others.
Gameplay:
The game play in the Hub is primarily visual novel with a Dating Sim feel as Rhulan walks around talking and setting off events based on how she responds or what she asks. Different outfits can cause different possible responses or attention from different characters through out the game (including only being able to speak to some while wearing certain outfits). Once Rhulan gains an outfit she can switch into it at anytime (in story this is due to all the outfits being made of Shadow Cloth which she gets early on and has to be programmed with different outfit designs).
When Rhulan and who ever she has with her leave the Hub via portals (which can be found in different parts of the town in different forms, A well, a magic pond, magic mirror, ect…) the game play changes slightly to RPG in these different lands with the multi-response feature set for the important characters, but with easier choices and less effect on story path than the Hub conversations. Although some big choices in those worlds will effect what different people in your party think of you affecting affinity; they will each give their advice on what to do and the player must decide. However characters not brought to those worlds won’t be affected as they wouldn’t know what choices were made.
There is also an alchemy feature that comes in early and can be used in many forge locations and sorcery labs; but it has no effect on the story.
The game has multiple endings depending on choices made and affinity points. The game has a multi-cycle feature so the player can go back over with their money, experience, items, and powers. In story this is done by the player being given the option after the ending to touch the mirror of Truth and reset the Hub back to when the journey started. As the Society of Sorcery exists outside of space time she can do over the events of any of the worlds *alternate timelines of them will be explained* but resetting the Society of Sorcery is a bigger deal.
Once all five basic endings have been unlocked a special (post endings) game will be unlocked which the player can choose to play in or just go back over again. This post endings is the story continued but now the game is more RPG in the Hub and one new world unlocked (The Demon World), this is when Ra Amonis can join the team. This special post game has only one ending, the final ending (hence player will be advised to make a separate save file for the post endings game).
Time Line importance:
This is how and where Rhulan learned the secrets of magic and expanded her own power to incredible levels. All the endings will be canon, but her actions and increasing power are what causes her to be “asked to leave” and causes her to return to Aesperia. While she has no idea how long she was in the society (many hundreds if not thousands of years possibly) Other World moved at its own relative pace, but a much slower one as roughly a hundred and fifty to two hundred years passed on Aesperia while she was gone.
