  1.   *The Apocalypse* those words hang in the air like a bad smell causing panic, causing Carter and Smith to run as fast as they can from the woods seeking the city lights rising from beyond the trees.
  2.
  3.
  4.    Smith stops and stares at the ground.
  5.
  6.   “What it is it?” asks Carter, “we have to keep moving, you heard what that thing said, that girl…”
  7.
  8.    “Truth,” whispers Smith, “it said it was called Truth.”
  9.
  10.   “Yeah…” says Carter, “and it said the girl..”
  11.
  12.   “My truth,” says Smith, “or your truth?”
  13.
  14.   He looks at Carter who gives him a quizzical look.
  15.
  16.   “Truth is the truth,” says Carter.
  17.
  18.   “A truth,” says Smith, “a truth that looks like someone we’d respect, speaks with our own
  19. voices, and…smells like something we like…”
  20.
  21.   Carter opens his mouth about to speak, but is silenced as the creeping philosophy worms its way through his brain, a philosophy long forgotten from his days in college as a student.
  22.
  23.    Smith starts to laugh as the ground shakes and splinters like glass with red glowing light coming through it, the sky shudders, and the trees melt. Ethereal cracks of crimson glow cross over Smith’s body like spider veins and over layered effects, shattering and vanishing leaving his mad-man’s laugh to echo in the woods and Carter to stand alone as deeper revelations made apparent by the final acceptance unbound Smith’s mind from all he had withheld from himself that he had learned from the very text that Carter is now more adamant than ever to retrieve.
