anywho
on with the show
In the dark rain along a ridge just in the tree line are the forms of Rhuen and Versa crouching with Rish and Riska lying nearby. At the Bottom of the Ridge lies the highway. The trading post for PineRidge lies across the highway below another ridge and above that the old church where Father Henry has lived his whole life. Rhuen judges that it was likely two very close hills or one hill that was cut up awhile back to create the road, so on a horizontal plane from the family of Dire the church was only thirty feet, but in this storm for a human it might as well have been a hundred miles so the Dire felt no concerns with being so out in the open.
In the parking lot of the Brooksville Lodge Peter has just pulled up in his police truck and runs inside. He walks in and pulls out a note from his pocket with Samantha’s room number on it. He had written down her number from the station’s contact info incase they needed to contact her and couldn’t reach her on the phone for some reason.
He walks up to her room and knocks; from inside Samantha opens the door and says in a hurried tone, “Sheriff? Is their something I can help you with?”
Before Peter answers he notices Samantha has her bags sitting on her bed and half packed, and she was just wearing some basic tennis shoes, jeans, and a T-shirt, completely wrong for the weather.
Peter notices she has a small cut on her lip, completely forgetting why he is there he asks, “What happened to your lip.”
Samantha looks at him with a curious look, “I bit my lip, now aside from checking on my health I suspect there was another reason you stopped by, so what can I do for you?”
“Oh yeah,” he says while shaking his head, “Their has been another attack. You’re going to need to come with me at once.”
“Okay just let me put on a coat.” She picks up a hooded coat which had been lying on the bed and heads out with Sheriff Peter.
Out side Sheriff Peter turns to Samantha and says, “It would be best if we took just my truck to where we are going.”
“Okay no problem.” says Samantha with a shrug.
On the way to the truck she thinks, “The attack must have been out of the way on some back road, in this rain my little city pick up truck wouldn’t be able to make it. After all I had a hard enough time just going down that dirt road into Pine Ridge; they really should pave some of these roads.”
On the way her mind drifts back to the events of earlier and she smiles a little smile to herself.
Upon the Ridge Rhuen and Versa watch intently as the police truck of Peter Jones’ returns; their children on the other hand are just laying down wandering why they are sitting in the rain rather than back in the nice dry den. Rhuen notices a very unusual aura coming from the passenger side of the police truck, unusual in that he never expected to see that particular type of aura in this area, let alone in the passenger seat of one of the human aggravants. He watches intently un-aware of the smile on Versa’s face as the truck comes around to the front of the church. Out of the truck Rhuen sees the expected human Peter Jones and then sees the source of the aura come out of the passenger side, it is that zoologist Samantha York, he turns to Versa seeing the smile on her face and says to her, “So that’s what you were up to earlier.”
“She is now mine,” says Versa, “and this should prove very interesting.”
