  1.     We were just innocent kids, well as innocent as kids can be, especially kids playing around with a Ouija board and demonic sigils we found from some old book my grandfather had hidden away in a box in the basement. It was just a game we were playing on Halloween night for fun, we drew in chalk a sigil we found in the book in my friend Kevin’s parent’s attic, and had lit candles. It was just the four us, myself, Kevin, my older sister Mary, and Kevin’s little brother Mark. Nothing was supposed to happen, except messing around with the Ouija board; I was going to try and scare them; but something did happen. The air got really hot and next thing we knew there was this black…ball…cloud…thing in the middle of the sigil and a girl appeared from it. A really pale petite girl wearing what I’ve come to know is a gothic Lolita style of outfit. Her pale blond hair tied up in a bun, her piercing blue eyes watching us. I don’t remember what any of us said to her anymore; but I do remember that she leaned down and a kind of darkness formed in her palms while we could hear the sound of rushing air; she was vacuuming up the chalk into her hand. Next she picked up a candle and bit it in half eating it.

  3.    We had decided, just like the kids in the movies and tv shows who find a strange alien or something to hide her and have adventures. She didn’t talk much, and was clearly learning from us. It also didn’t take us long to figure out that hiding her was going to be a problem, because she ate…anything, and I mean anything. She had lots of ways of doing it too, things would just melt in her mouth as she bit into them regardless of it was a ham sandwich or a brick, she would do that vacuum thing with her hands, she would create these orange cone lights from her hands and only vacuum up things in the light, she’d spit out this blue beam that would turn stuff into energy that she’d suck up, or and scariest of all were these purple-violet beams she’d shoot from her hands that would suck the life out stuff and then corrode it as it vanished in her light. She mostly ate stuff with her mouth, but gross stuff she used the beams on, or just alternated depending on size. Some of us, namely my older sister took advantage of us by having her suck up dirt around the house, Kevin had gotten her to vapo-beam (as we called it) the garbage. However after she at Kevin’s mom’s silver spoon collection; she had a taste for fancier stuff after awhile, we had to hide her away from our houses better. We had hid her in this old warehouse once, and told her…and in retrospect this was a bad idea…that she could eat anything she wanted in there…the next day the news was lit up about the warehouse vanishing overnight, not a stone remained, brick, or anything. She had actually eaten the entire building.

  5.   We would also find out she was really strong too, like insanely so, plucking boulders from a stream to take a nibble out of them for taste, smashing concrete in her hands like Styrofoam, and she could even emit light and shoot energy beams from her hands. Eventually my parents found out about her, kind of hard to hide a human sized being after all who looks entirely human. My parents at first thought she was my girlfriend; or my sister’s friend. They found out pretty quick she wasn’t normal, of course the fact this girl my sister named “Singularity” , yeah my sister had always been a bit of a sci-fi geek despite her looks, and that Singularity had no idea how to hide herself or even picked up that, that was what we were doing didn’t help. My parents wandered if she could become a superhero someday, yeah…guess living in a world where those have existed the last few years made hiding her that much less important, but they didn’t start to show up in the news till almost a year after we summoned this girl; and no I don’t think there is a correlation…at least I hope there isn’t. She grew as we grew…somewhat, no telling how old she was to start with.

  7.    This all seemed well and good till something hit me while I was in college; I was taking a class on physics when it occurred to me. Singularity could and would eat anything, size and density didn’t seem to matter, and how much she ate didn’t seem important to her, a few stones, some chips, a whole building in one night, and she never urinated, never defecated, never shed her hair, skin, eyelashes, never cried, never cut her fingernails, her clothes we assumed were part of her as she could shift them by will power alone. Aside from the occasional energy blast or light she never put anything back into the environment; when something went into her…it was just gone forever. My sister I think noticed this before me, even gave me a (duh) when I called her in a panic to mention my epiphany; this girl was slowly eating our world, she is unnatural, existing completely outside the natural cycles. All the biomass, matter, liquids, air, that went into her were completely removed from our world forever. Yet my sister was un-phased by this, saying it was in the original contract that she wouldn’t do that or something, not eat the whole world at once anyway. But she could stay here for thousands, millions of years, no matter how long it takes and slowly consume our world…

  9.    Not that anyone would listen to me now, not after she went public…I know I turned pale as a sheet that day when Kevin called me and told me to check out the news. There she was, there was Singularity, teaming up with Galaxy Girl, Golem-Gal, and that space lady with the long weird I think Japanese name, Rio-Yoshi or something, to take down some giant Jack-o-lantern wearing a crown that had popped up during Halloween that year. So that’s the world we live in, a living black hole nibbling away at the world is a superhero teaming up with other over-powered women. Not how you expect a story about kids summoning a cosmic horror during Halloween to end huh?
