Galactic Guardians: Night of the Living Pumpkins

     The wind howls though the darkness, or would if not for the city being lit up for Halloween night, any who, the wind howls through the semi-darkness with very few stars thanks to the city’s light pollution, at the old pumpkin farm outside of town. Standing atop a hill is a sight that would be odd if this weren’t October 31st in the United States of America, a petite woman dressed in a green witch costume with a short skirt with black horizontal stripes, green stockings with the same stripes, elbow length gloves, again same green and black stripe pattern, and a witch hat with that exact same color scheme, the only thing breaking up her color scheme are her pale flesh, long black hair, and those orange Jack-o-lantern style shoulder guards she has strapped onto her shoulders.

 

    Standing on an opposite hill is another woman, a petite thing in an orange version of a witch’s costume with Jack-o-lantern hem patterns, a longer skirt, and she has a grey cat’s tail sticking out back and a pair of cat ears poking up through holes in her witch hat. This petite cute little thing is Xin the Cat Witch, her opponent in the green is Weena the Halloween Mistress.

 

  “This night,” announces Weena as if speaking to a large audience, “we shall see the birth of a new nation, a new kingdom of shadows and flame, the kingdom of Halloween shall spread across the Earth starting from this very spot!”

 

   She moves her hands about while chanting and summoning a green smoky flame from her hands culminating with, “Pumpkin Army Arise!”

 

   The green smoky flames snake out as quick as a whip across the pumpkin field, the pumpkins crack, forming grotesque Jack-o-lantern faces that glow with an inner green flame. With vines for limbs they shamble about moaning like the undead.

 

  Xin…dances and sings…doing moves and lyrics straight from a J-pop concert about the joys and harmony of trick or treating, fun, family, a good silly scare, and candy. When she ends striking a hands over head wrists cross pose the zombie like pumpkins all explode in green fireworks.

 

   “Curse you Cat Witch!” screams Weena, “one of these days I will defeat you! And I will be the queen of Halloween!”

 

   She vanishes in a green smoke. Xin shrugs her shoulders, manifests a trick or treat bag, and while skipping away sings, “Trick or Treat, candy’s sweet, I want lots of tasty treats.”
