- “Multiple…multiverse…ses…” says Rhulan going over a book in the great eternal library of a recent acquaintance of hers the supreme sorceress Misaline; the only sorceress or sorcerer for that matter that Rhulan has ever acknowledged as more powerful than herself.
- Rhulan sits back in the chair and looks out the window, “Omniverse, hmmm.”
- “Is it really that strange of a concept?” asks Misaline sitting across from her drinking tea.
- “Not really,” says Rhulan, “back in my original universe the concept was tossed around from time to time, but it was always unprovable, or laughed at as even if you had numerous split timelines, even those split from a point where the laws of physics themselves would have turned out differently, its still the same multiverse.”
- “There is a distinction,” says Misaline as she sets her cup down, the very scenery around them shifting magically from a room to a grassy hill, and Misaline from a young woman to a vulopteous older woman around Rhulan’s age. Her dress going from a dark green to a shimmering emerald green in the sunlight.
- “The Presence,” says Rhulan.
- “Hmmm,” says Misaline, “so…you know..”
- Misaline smiles as one might imagine a cat would smile eyeing a canary.
- “A while back,” says Rhulan, “shortly after entering the society of sorcery I had used the Odin’s Eye spell to locate strong life signs to locate my brother Rhoan. I ended up running afoul some ludicrously strong opponents…in a stupidly fragile universe given how strong they were…however during the fight I had used Time Quake…just to shake off a time freeze, but it destabilized their universe. Something was trying to attack me…but…it was intercepted by a certain someone.”
- “The Mother of Chaos,” says Misaline, her face showing a sweet nonchalantness, but her eyes betraying the seriousness of the situation.
- “Best I could tell,” says Rhulan setting the book down, “their universe was controlled by a being of absolute order, so orderly that it made their universe a bit stagnant and fragile, unable to adapt to sudden chaotic changes. While I can’t begin to guess to the reasoning for the Mother of Chaos to have interfered as she did,”
- Misaline raises a brow as Rhulan continues, “I do wander now if I had actually stepped outside of our Multiverse and into another one, one ruled …or created by that being.”
- “It’s just as you say,” says Misaline, “the Presence is the Omniversal being that created the DC universe.”
- “Dee Ceee?” says Rhulan.
- “Omniversal beings,” says Misaline, “are…well kind of a race, some of them near each other, which is kinda…sorta…a bad way to put it, tend to make slightly similar multiverses, some even work in groups.”
- She summons another book for Rhulan who looks through it.
- “The Presence, The One Above All, The Miracle Man….huh…”
- She scrolls down, “Kami Tenchi with Tsunami, Washu, and Tokimi…potential…gigaverse beings…huh…weird hypothedical between multiverse and omniverse levels…huh…our multiverse…the Mother of Chaos, the Mother of Order, and the Mother of Destruction…what’s this…chaos.”
- She flips to a few pages, “Omniversal beings that create universes while sleeping, creating them from their own bodies, the Blind Idiot God Azathoth whose abominations spread between the multiverses and infest them from his disjointed creation that matches no order as one may expect from a sleeping madness.”
- “So,” says Rhulan, “that’s where eldritch abominations come from…and…thought these multiverses were infinite but the sleepers make only a handful at most, huh, the Lord of Nightmares, created against its will from its own body four universes, and dreams of regaining its true form; yet…says here it created gods and demons in opposition, demons to return it all to chaos and gods to protect it, as though it can’t decide if it wants to really obliterate all that was made or preserve it.”
- Rhulan smiles, “a being at that level…” her mind drifts to the times she has encountered the avatar of the Mother of Chaos, “fascinating, to be omnipotent within one’s own sphere and yet be unsure of how to act, the source of all chaos…I think I’d like to check this out.”
