- In an undisclosed city somewhere in the Great Lake region of North America a small row-boat float silently, propelled by very small air jet devices, down a man made river approaching a high way over-pass. Sitting in this point is the agent C.Viper, who is looking at a small palm tablet whose screen shows the area, as well as several small red dots up head under the over-pass.
- C.Viper puts it away and radios on a walkie-talkie, “The targets are confirmed, thirteen in all. Are your men in position?”
- “Yes.” Replies a man’s voice.
- “Good.,” she says back in a whisper, “Don’t move in unless things look like their going south, your job is to snag any runners, got it.”
- “Understood agent Viper.” Then every thing goes silent.
- As she approaches the bank she can see that they are all only children, the oldest ones no more than maybe fourteen years of age. Yet some are clearly not human, with pointed ears, or larger than normal hands with claws, or even glowing eyes. As Viper brings her boat to the bank and walks up the short grass dyke over the bike path an older boy, maybe thirteen or so, stands and looks at her, behind him she can see other children either slinking away in the shadows to avoid her gaze, one little girl with pointed ears curled up in a blanket looks at her through a dirt covered face.
- The older boy stands trying to look tough with a scowl on his face and arms crossed; he looks at Viper’s outfit and hair saying, “So you’re one of us?”
- Viper takes out a pen like device from pocket and points it at the confused boy as she says, “no” a net fires from the pen encircling the boy who thumps to the ground. The other children start to run, the older ones urging the younger ones away, except for three other older ones who stay behind to face her. As easily as she took down the first Viper aims the pen at the girl with pointed ears and red hair taking her down with another net. The other two look confused at their friends on the ground, the girl struggles just to get on elbow saying, “I can barely move, my powers, my powers aren’t working.”
- “What have you done to them!?” screams the brown haired scruffy boy on her right.
- “Yeah you better answer bitch.” says the slightly larger boy on her left who looks like he could easily be the brother of the one on her right.
- “It’s just a bio-magnetic field, designed specifically to incapacitate those like yourselves for safe transport, they’ll be fine in a few hours.”
- “You’re dead!” screams the boy on her left rushing at her with his over-sized claw hands glowing with an un-earthly fire. With a clicking sound Viper lunges high into the air thanks to her air-jet heels, landing behind the boy. With another click to her gloves she grabs the boy on the shoulder tazering him with an electric jolt.
- She lets go of the boy’s shirt letting him fall to he ground, just in time to see the other boy go wide eyed and run away. As the boy reaches some bushes he stops and falls to the ground with a tranquilizer dart sticking out of his chest. A SWAT team member in full armor and guard mask steps out from the bushes and salutes Viper, “We have the other targets acquired and ready for transport sir.”
- Viper crosses her arms, “Get them on the trucks and bring around a transport van for these here. And be gentle their in no condition to resist like this, and besides their just kids.”
- As the man leaves Viper walks over to the downed kids, the first boy in the net growls out, “What are you going to do with us?”
- “Don’t worry” says Viper sympathetically, “We’re just taking you to a special hospital to be examined, figure out why so many of you are popping up all over the world, and maybe find a way to stop it.”
- “Yeah right lady.” says the kid, “you just want to make us into weapons, I’ve seen the movies.”
- Viper crosses her arm and in a stern voice says, “It’s too late for that, there are already criminal organizations artificially making people like you.”
- The kid scoffs saying, “yeah you people likely made some super-soldiers and it leaked out, I know atll the angles lady, you think we haven’t seen TV and comic books?”
- “You aren’t guns, your people.” She says, “The military didn’t make you and then some crime-bosses copy them. For some reason this is just happening, I have seen a man who physically mutated to adapt to his environment, I have seen martial artists who some how managed to be able to fire focused energy from their hands, they think its just focused chi, but other martial artists who train just as hard as them can’t.
- And it gets a lot worse; I have seen people so mutated and their powers so extreme that it’s driven them crazy, they honestly think they are demons, going around calling themselves Darkstalkers and Demons. And if that’s not bad enough there are even people hunting them as monsters, heck there are others with these powers also hunting them. A dangerous black market group has been popping up, even around here, hiring hunters to hunt your kind for trophies and selling body parts like animals to sick collectors or crime organizations trying to make super-soldiers as you would say.”
- Viper stops, looking at the kid knowing he doesn’t believe her, and thinking of her own child about the same age. What she had been on the streets in the same situation with twisted individuals out there wanting to hunt her thinking she was a monster or to cut out her eyes or hands to sell to sick private collectors or hokey medicine manufacturers.
- Viper turns to see the agency van come along the bike path and the SWAT members pile out hulling the kids into the back, one tossed the kid like sack, getting him punched to the ground by Viper, “I said be gentle damn-it, there just kids!”
- Viper looks forlornly as they close the doors and the van drives away thinking to herself, “It might not be the best of circumstances kids, but its better to be in protective custody and be examined in a lab than to be on the streets for you right now.”
