Title: QM Notes Author: RevDrMartian Pastebin link: http://pastebin.com/GNwP3cHH First Edit: Saturday 5th of September 2015 05:34:50 PM CDT Last Edit: Last edit on: Saturday 5th of September 2015 05:45:55 PM CDT     After thinking about this from the bottom of a bottle for a few days, I’ve come to the conclusion that ITW is more story than game, something closer to the original CYOA story books of the ‘80s, rather than a D&D type numbers cruncher. Ergo, I am not going to be giving character status updates by percentiles; Piney’s condition will be shown through the story. The only numbers that are given are for item degradation, and that is just to save time.   Story paths will be chosen through popular vote. Risky choices will be noted as such by Piney herself (she is not an idiot,) and players will have a chance to weigh risk vs. reward for the action. Risky or difficult actions will have their level of success decided by a d10 die that I have here beside me. The number needed will be arbitrarily set by me, and you want to roll the lowest possible. Start a fire in wet weather? 6 or better. Fight a mammoth and win? -2 or better. Succeed by a better number on the die and it is a full success. Fail by one and the action is successful but with a conditional effect. Fail by more than one and it is total failure.   For example; Try to start a fire in wet weather with your ferrite stick. Level 6 challenge. Roll a 6 and your fire starts, but the use of the ferrite wears it a bit, taking a durability hit of -5%. Roll a 5 or lower and you get a good fire while barely making a dent in the stick, it taking only 1% wear. Roll a 7 and you get a fire, but it took quite a bit of effort resulting in a -8% hit on durability. 8 or more and you have no fire but still damage your ferrite stick by -8%.   Few failures will result in the risk of death- most will just cause the story to twist and get more interesting, requiring more thought or decisive action to get through. That doesn’t mean Piney is guaranteed to live- this world is lethal to her, but she’s tough and wise enough to have a chance.
