- Be Nolan North.
- >Today was a pretty cool day.
- >Nothing to write home about, which is always good when the only thing you want is a break from everything Saints related.
- >You finished your homework in the salon and, as a reward for your efforts, allowed yourself a short nap in the sofa.
- >Damn it. Way too comfy.
- >You need the same as this one in your room.
- >“You know boss, you’re too young to be doin' this, only old men nap like that.”
- >All forms of relaxation just got murdered.
- >You put as much annoyance as possible in your voice.
- “Good afternoon Tim.”
- >Timothy Typhoon, your ever present bodyguard, number one asshole of the Saints Bro.
- >“Just to warn you boss, your phone’s been ringing the whole afternoon. It’s the purple haired one you like so much.”
- >Amy?
- >This is more than enough reason for you to rise immediately.
- “Alright, thanks then.”
- >A quick check around you indicates the lack of the device.
- >You extend your open hand to your blue curly haired bodyguard.
- >“What? You think I brought it to you? I’m your bodyguard boss, not a butler.”
- >Is he trying to ruin your good mood? Maybe he really hates the life of a normal kid and only wants you to stay on the path the Saints want you to walk…
- >Screw this, I’ll enjoy my normal school year no matter what.
- >Even though already 4 of your classmates know about your secret.
- >Vinyl and Tim’ couldn’t be avoided, while you agreed to not hide anything from Amy.
- >But Norman managed to discover everything thanks to Tim’s screw up.
- “I wonder why I still keep you around.”
- >“Cuz no Saint beside me is capable of punching a dude hard enough to break skulls.”
- >You go back to the main hall of the mansion and pocket your phone back from your coat.
- >3 missed calls from Amy?
- >Okay that kind of worries you.
- >Before you can tap the option to call her, she is the one calling you.
- “Amy? Is everything okay?”
- >“Ho Nolan thanks goodness! No-one was answering their phone and- Ho my stars, I need your help! I’m in one of those mess… I don’t even know where to start!”
- >Her panicked voice sends your brain into crisis mode.
- >If anyone is trying to hurt her, there will be blood.
- “Tell me where you are, I’m coming.”
- >You notice the cold in your voice after saying the words.
- >It almost frightens you.
- >“Wh-Wait! No! Stay where YOU are okay? No need to come with guns blazing!”
- >Did she just guess that you wanted to go with half the gang to her rescue?
- “… Alright, then, if you can begin with deep breathing and explaining slowly…”
- >“Yes, no problem… Err… No, big problem… I-it would be easier to show you… Are you alone?”
- >The strange question doesn’t put you at ease.
- >Still imagining the worst, you take a full 5 seconds to realize you shouldn’t be wary of Amy.
- “…I am alone.”
- >“100% certain? No windows, no cameras, nothing?”
- “…Yes.”
- >“O-okay… P-put your phone on the ground and step away. I-I’ll count to ten…”
- >You comply.
- >Ten seconds later and your phone is now spitting sparks of electricity like some plasma ball.
- >The first lightning didn’t even touch the ground before you had your hidden knife out.
- >It won’t be much use against a phone turned into a transformer, but no Saint dies without a weapon in hand.
- >After one particularly bright flash, the cracking of thunder stops.
- >“U-um… H-hello Nolan…”
- >No bolt reached you and fried your brain, but you are currently unable to voice any of the questions that just swarmed your mind.
- >Sitting on the phone is now Amy.
- >A tiny, ten centimeters high, one.
- >It takes 5 minutes of incoherent questioning with monosyllabic sounds from you and frantic arms flailing around while advising you to not panic from your little friend before the calm comes back in the room.
- >“This started this morning. You know, Mister Discord is planning that huge test next week and I’m not that good at math. So I went to see Adam in the science lab once classes were over. He agreed to help me study and I did so much progress! I got every exercises right! Give me any calculus and I’ll do it!”
- “What’s the square root of 3242?”
- >“Wh-Hey! The test is about geometry! Not arithmetics!”
- “How does that relate with your current state?”
- >“Ho! Right… After, he asked me to help him do the final adjustments on some invention… Something not planned happened and… There I am… Shrunken… I-it’s not that bad, I’m able to infiltrate electronic devices and travel through all kinds of network! Adam said something about transformation of matter into wave form or so… He added before leaving that it won’t last, maximum a week, but I have to spend that time like this and not inside a machine. I used my own phone, which wasn’t on me when the incident happened, to call Vinyl, but she didn’t answer and I may have started to panic a tiny little bit… Until you picked up.”
- “Ooo-kay… I wouldn’t have believed you if you didn’t show me… But why did you call Vinyl and I? Why not your parents?”
- >“Remember, I have a dog at home. A big one, very friendly, but too playful for my safety. My first choice was Vinyl because, well she’s just that much of a good friend. Then when she didn’t answer I thought that maybe she was with you.”
- “No dice, she has a gig or something tonight.”
- >“Hooo. Right, I forgot… Well… May I stay with you? For the time being? As soon as Vinyl agree to help, I’ll move to her place, I promise.”
- “I don’t think this is such a good idea… Your parents will get worried and I can’t just let you stay here alone while I’m at school.”
- >“Mmh… I can just ring my parents and tell them I’m at a friend’s house and not to panic. And I can go to school in your backpack so I don’t miss any classes… Please I won’t bother you Nolan!”
- >Pocket size Amy does the puppy eyes to you.
- >Her minuscule appearance makes it even more efficient.
- “This is a crisis situation after all... You can stay.”
- >“YES!! Thank you so much!”
- “You know, you shouldn’t be this happy about being in such situation…”
- >“You gotta see the positive things in life!”
- >She pauses, looking at you with her incredible shining eyes, then a shadow passes over her features.
- “Something wrong?”
- >“Right now, I want to hug you… But I can’t!!” she whines, waving her too short arms pathetically.
- >With a chuckle you pick her and your phone up before patting the top of her head with your index.
- >Rubbing her head is some sort of weird habit you picked with her.
- >Half of a joke, half genuine sign affection. It always makes her smile.
- “Now be a good girl and phone your parents.”
- >“Yessir! Before I go, do you have Norman’s number in your contacts list?
- “I do, but why?”
- >“Let’s just say that I wasn’t the only one caught in the science lab when Adam’s experiment went wrong… Be right back!”
- >She dives into your phone like an Olympic swimmer, sparks replacing splashes of water.
- “So much for ‘a normal schoolboy’s life’, huh?”
