- We all have our inner demons and those that don't show it aren’t any different. In fact, some of the most cheerful, unsuspecting characters are the ones fighting the hardest. This is a story about the things we leave unsaid and our past mistakes. This is a story about the lies we tell ourselves and the consequences they can have. Though the future is unwritten, we cannot write it alone no matter how hard hard we try. As much as we prepare for the future we cannot account for unexpected, we cannot account for others. This isn’t just any story, this is your story, Anon.
- >On a snowy night in mid winter you were awoken by an unexpected phone call.
- >In any other circumstance, you would not have answered, but this was different.
- > It was Pinkamena.
- >She asked you to meet her on campus as soon as possible.
- >You told her you had a very busy schedule the following day, and that you couldn't afford to be late for a date.
- >She said she was sorry for waking you up and that she wouldn’t do it again.
- >Something in her voice had you on edge.
- >You reassured Pinkie that you would always make time for her.
- >In any case, if it came down to it you could have always canceled on your girlfriend.
- >Excited, you hopped in you car and headed to campus.
- >Once there, Pinkie asked you to meet her on a hill just behind the Montwood building.
- >The fact that she called you up so late at night was odd, but as you crested the hill, to your surprise, she didn't look like she was in need of your help. In fact, she looked oddly happy.
- >However taking a closer look, you noticed her curly pink mane was completely straight and that her bright pink coat was now faded. It should have been a clear sign something was up.
- >This was the first time you had ever seen her hair like this and you thought it made her look so beautiful.
- >You shook your head and chose to forget about it. Instead, you thought it would be best to see what was bothering her.
- >At the time, it looked as though she just wanted to hangout with you. So you both hung out, built a snowman, then had a snowball fight.
- >You couldn’t understand how her hooves were able to make such perfectly round snowballs.
- >It was like she merely touched the snow and they just formed.
- >Soon after, the two of you settle down behind the snowy hillside.
- >The city lights illuminated her breath as well as yours in the crisp, cold night air.
- >She managed to talk you into playing truth or dare.
- >It was weird seeing her like this.
- >She was acting so strange. You couldn't quite place your finger on it, but it wasn't a bad kind of strange, or so you thought.
- >Among all the crazy things the both of you asked of each other, and the crazy things you made each other do, she dared you to kiss her.
- >Confused, you sat there scared and excited. You really didn’t know how you felt but it wasn’t a dare you could do.
- >She leaned in for a kiss, but you stopped her midway. You wanted it so badly, but you just couldn’t.
- >Then she dropped a bombshell on you.
- >She confessed that she had feelings for you and it hit you hard.
- >There was a time when you did have feelings for her. Feelings which though faded, were still there.
- >You asked her how long she had been hiding it
- >She said ever since junior year of high school.
- >It felt like a blow to your gut. That was the year she moved to your school.
- >You saw how everyone bullied her for what she was, but instead of giving into society, you defended her, became the closest of friends, and found yourself in love.
- >She tried to come in for another kiss, but again you stopped her.
- >You told her you were currently in a relationship with someone.
- >It was all just too much to handle and Pinkie was acting strange.
- >Jokingly, you asked her if she had a little too much to drink.
- >She started arguing with you, and turned into someone completely different in an instant.
- >Pinkie lashed out with her hooves in frustration and you had to hold her down to get through to her.
- >She looked at you, emotionless, and said something that has been burned into your memory ever since.
- >“If you had one day left to live, what would you do?”
- >You weren’t following her at all.
- >The whole night was weird, just like a dream, one you almost fucked up.
- >You asked her what was wrong but she refused to talk about it. She simply asked you to walk her home.
- >Before you backtracked and crested the hill, you patted off some snow that was stuck to your jeans as you looked back at her.
- >Pinkie stumbled as soon as she got up. It looked as though she was out of it, maybe a little too tired.
- >You found yourself giving her a piggyback ride which was the least you could do.
- >The way she loosely wrapped her forehooves around your neck and snuggled her face against yours was a feeling you could not forget, nor did you ever want to.
- >The snowflakes seemed to stand still in the cold night air and even though you could see your breath as you exhaled, your whole body felt a comforting warmth.
- >A breeze swept by and Pinkie dug her face into your collarbone.
- >Your heart fluttered on reflex and you tightened your grip on her legs.
- >She whispered in your ear and thanked you for all the wonderful memories.
- >It was nights like this that you wished would never end; dreams like this you never wanted to wake from and it nearly came to an end that night.
- >Before you knew it, you arrived at her dorm complex.
- >She asked you to kiss her once again and once again you had to refuse.
- >It was eating you up on the inside, but when you looked at her forced smile and the way her eyes were about to burst with tears, you knew it was killing her.
- >With nothing but a goodbye, you parted ways.
- >Just like that, you left.
- >In hindsight, things weren't going so well with your current girlfriend. You contemplated this as you walked to your car.
- >Things had been wonderful at first until you learned of her intense hatred for ponies.
- >You tried to hide the fact that you liked them from her, but she eventually found out after she learned of your friendship with Pinkamena.
- >Then things began to deteriorate.
- >For whatever reason, something about them just drove her into a fury.
- >Many loud and terrible arguments broke out and many of them ended with you sleeping on the couch.
- .>Was staying with your current girlfriend worth sacrificing your friendship with Pinkie?
- >As you drove off that question left you worried and confused.
- >The image of her against the dimly lit campus lights, the snowflakes that spotted her mane.
- >Her blushed cheeks...Her pained look.
- >You couldn't get it out of your head.
- >You texted her saying you were sorry, and that you wanted to see her again, you even texted her saying you were willing to drive right back.
- >You just didn’t want the night to end like that.
- >You desperately wanted to kiss her, hold her in your arms and make her happy.
- >You didn’t even give her a hug before you left. How could you be so cold?
- >As you stared at the unresponsive text screen waiting for a reply, you contemplated going back and your guilt tore at your insides.
- >It was that final piercing look she gave you, her beautiful blue eyes staring into your soul, the kind of eyes you could find yourself lost in forever.
- >Making your decision at that exact moment, you stomped on the brakes, turned around, and gunned it.
- >All of this flew through your mind as you raced back to the campus grounds and tore your way through the dormitory. Finally, you reach her room finding the door slightly ajar.
- >You cautiously opened it and peered inside.
- >The scent of alcohol assaulting your nose was the first thing you noticed.
- >The second were the empty bottles of alcohol, sleep aids and antidepressants.
- >The third was a pink pony lying on the ground beside her bed, unmoving, with a note next to her hoof.
- >Her voice echoed in your head.
- >“Anon, I wish I had one more day with you.”
- >A crushing despair began to overwhelm your heart.
- >You found yourself picking her up, hugging her, sobbing into her mane, begging her to wake up.
- >Through your grief stricken mind you managed to dial 911 telling them what happened, they assured you someone was on their way to help.
- >You held your head next to her chest and could hear the faintest heartbeat, your heart jumped into your throat.
- >She was still breathing.
- >All you could find yourself doing was holding her, quietly whispering, begging her to not die.
- “Please...Pinkie….Please don’t die...I’ve lived a life full of regrets, please, please don't let this be another one.”
- >Within no time, you heard sirens and saw the haze of flashing red lights through the window.
- >The paramedics rushed in with a stretcher and soon after, Pinkie was wheeled away.
- >You followed right behind, refusing to leave her side.
- >The entire ride back you never let go of her hoof.
- >At the hospital you were finally separated, all you could do was sit there, head spinning, asking yourself why you didn’t see the warning signs.
- >Eventually a pony nurse with a light pink mane walked up.
- >Her coat was white and she had a red medical cross as her cutie mark.
- >“Mr. Anonymous?” she asks as she brings you back to reality, back to the present.
- >You look up into her ice blue eyes.
- “Y-yes, that would be me.”
- >“I just wanted to let you know that it’s a good thing that you called and got Pinkie here when you did, if you hadn’t she would be dead by now” she appears to be musing on something
- >“And yet, it’s the oddest of things. By all accounts she should be dead, but… it’s as if something is making her hold on.” The nurse looks completely stumped.
- “I-is she ok!?” You ask, desperation creeping into your voice.
- >“We performed a stomach pump it’s the only only thing we could do in a situation like this. She isn’t responsive and only time will tell if she awakens” She looks at you with sympathy in her eyes.
- “Please doctor...Even if she isn’t awake, I just need to be there. Please…” Desperation hangs on every word.
- >You find yourself looking into her eyes and you feel as if you’re being examined, as if your soul is being searched, it’s only for a few moments, yet it feels much longer, eventually the spell seems to be broken and a small, yet sad smile spreads across her face.
- >“Well….I suppose it wouldn’t hurt….But you must promise not to disturb her” her eyes are still studying you.
- “I promise, I just need to be there”
- >You stand up and she stares at you a few moments longer, again, with that soul piercing stare.
- >Finally her face softens then she turns and points down a hallway. ”Please follow me.”
- >You follow beside her, noticing other human and pony doctors and nurses walking by.
- >”How do you know Pinkie, Mr. Anonymous?” She suddenly asks.
- ”Please, just Anon, miss…?”
- >”Redheart, Anon” she simply replies.
- “I’ve known her since junior high Miss Redheart.”
- >You suddenly find yourself explaining that when Pinkie showed up in junior high, no one wanted to be her friend
- >Even though she was so bubbly, sweet, and kind many persecuted her. They outright shunned her for being a pony.
- >You were one of the few people to accept her, to let her have someone to confide in, you grew to secretly love her. It makes your heart ache to remember those feelings.
- >As you finish you find yourself approaching the recovery area.
- >Redheart leads you to a door “Pinkie is in here Anon.”
- >You reach towards the handle, a hoof gently grabs your hand midway.
- >You find yourself looking at her again, those piercing blue eyes studying you carefully.
- >“Anon, I have to tell you, listening to what you just told me, I think Pinkie is holding on purely because of you” those words pierce your soul.
- >“I wasn’t kidding when I said she shouldn’t be alive. The doctors did an examination and they determined that she had been legally deceased for 5 minutes, yet something is holding onto her, keeping her here.”
- >You see a different side of Redheart as the icy facade she had begins to melt.
- >“I think it was you, Anon. From your story she seemed to be incredibly close to you. When you came back to check on her and called the hospital, and remained at her side, I think she somehow knew you were there and willed herself to live, I daresay she loves you.”
- >Mixed feelings overwhelm you, you were the one who made her do this, yet you’re also the reason she’s holding on.
- >Not noticing your inner turmoil, Redheart opens the door revealing an isolated ICU.
- >In the bed is a dull pink pony resting peacefully.
- >Redheart walks into the room, nudging a chair you hadn’t noticed in a corner into position near Pinkies bed.
- >She looks back at you, a kind smile spreads across her face for the first time.
- >“Here, this chair should keep you comfortable throughout the night.” Her voice has a level of warmth in it that you hadn’t heard before.
- >The chair certainly looks comfortable. After getting settled in, you find it does not disappoint.
- >You imagine many people sat here for long periods of time, a comfortable looking blanket was draped over the back of it.
- >”Just in case you need it, there’s also some spare pillows in this cupboard over there Anon” Redheart gestures at a cupboard nearby.
- >You turn to thank her, and once again your gaze meets hers, those ice blue eyes again stare directly into your soul.
- >”Anon, I don’t know what has happened in your life or what kinds of decisions you have made, but you are a good person. I can tell just from looking at you.” Those eyes….you can't turn away from them.
- >“Visiting hours are far past over, but I think she needs you right now. And you need her” Finally she stops looking into your eyes, turning away, the paralyzing effect they had on you fading.
- >She begins to move to the door, pausing and turning back to you as she reaches it.
- >”I’ll make sure that the other doctors and nurses know you have special permission to be here for the night.” Once again that warm smile spreads across her face, and she quietly closes the door behind her, leaving you alone with Pinkamena.
- >Getting comfortable in the seat you look at the time on your phone, then notice all the missed calls from your girlfriend.
- >You text her saying something came up and that you wouldn’t be home that evening, then try to get comfortable again.
- >Immediately, your phone buzzes.
- >It’s her again, asking you what’s wrong. The words seem to smolder with anger.
- >You know her position about ponies, and you know telling her will just lead to another fight but a part of you wants to retaliate.
- >You text her one word. “Hospital.” then set your phone to silent.
- >You pull your seat a little closer and gently place your hand on her hoof.
- >Alone once again, you can finally give in to your feelings.
- >Your lip trembles, but you try to be strong and give her a warm smile.
- >You hesitate.
- “I don’t really know what to say”
- >You laugh a little.
- “I’ve never been in a position like this...I mean, you’d think people would know exactly what to say at a time like this...but, I don’t.”
- >You gently rub her hoof with your thumb.
- “Honey...” You choke on your words. “That’s all that comes to mind.”
- “I want to call you honey...because I love you.” The unspoken words you have longed to get out seem to resonate down the empty hallways in your head.
- “Ive just been on the side lines of your life. If I knew you loved me, I would have….I-I would have done something.
- >You find yourself clutching her hoof, with both hands now.
- “I mean, I remember I was walking in the mall one day, and walking to hot topic.” You smirk a little “yeah haha, you know me, I don’t think I really fit in there. I guess I was just bored, but I’m glad I went in because I found something that reminded me of you. It was a shiny little metallic cupcake on a necklace. It instantly reminded me of you, I just had to buy it.” You chuckle sadly to yourself.
- >You find yourself standing up now, one hand still gripping her hoof, the other now softly running through her hair.
- “I think it was some time during senior year of high school. I never gave it to you. I’m sorry about that. I was planning on giving it to you as a going out present, or something like that. I know it sounds a little cheesy, but at the time, I was thinking about walking up to you with a bouquet of roses, kneeling down on one leg, and presenting you that cupcake necklace, saying. “Ponka, will you be my special somepony.”
- >The memory of that moment goes through your mind, in crystal clear detail.
- “If you think that sounds lame, I rehearsed it like forty times in front of my mirror. The worst part of it was when my mom came in and started giving me pointers on how to talk to you.“
- >You pause a moment to think.
- “Now that I think about it. I don’t think I ever thought of you as a pony...if that sounds weird or not.”
- >You sit back down again, once again both hands gripping her hoof.
- “I’m not sure how my parents would have reacted if I told them you were a flaming pink pony, but I guess thats the ignorance of being a child.”
- >You find yourself shaking your head.
- “There’s a consequence to everything, but it’s not right. If I had known that you loved me…..God, If I didn’t keep making so many mistakes in my life….A real man would have walked up to you in the middle of class and told the teacher to sit their ass down down because I'm proposing to the girl of my dreams.”
- >You grit your teeth at your cowardice.
- “I can't call myself a man, I’m nothing more than a scared child, I chickened out. I still don’t feel I’m good enough for you, but I promise you, after this is over, things will be different.”
- >Setting your jaw you say the words that have been fighting to get out for years now.
- “I may sound like a real asshole, but there’s no love in my current relationship, this whole time I’ve been in the wrong one.
- >You find it kind of hard to hear yourself saying that, yet at the same time relief floods your system.
- “If you're willing, I’ll always be here with my arms wide open.”
- >You feel a sense of peace, as if a great weight is off your chest and shoulders, everything just feels right, seems clearer.
- >You now find yourself sitting there, the only noise being the vital sign monitor slowly beeping, and Pinkie’s quiet breathing.
- >You now are able to look closer at her, and begin to notice that Pinkie has all kinds of marks and cuts on her.
- >The guilt begins again, how could you have not noticed this?
- >You don’t remember much of the remainder of the night, though eventually sleep claims you.
- >You dreamed, in it you were playing in the snowfield again with Pinkie, she was smiling, her pink coat vibrant and more colorful than ever.
- >You both spent time building a snowman, followed by snow forts, cumulating in a furious snowball fight that she won.
- >Once again, the bombshell statement was dropped.
- “Anon...I love you” She said. “Ever since I came to your school I’ve loved you, even before all the bullying, and the meanie mouth people, and you sticking up for me...I’ve loved you.” Her eyes welled up with happy tears.
- >You were finally able to look her in the eyes, without holding anything back.
- “ I love you Pinkie, since I laid my eyes on you, I’ve loved you but I never had the courage to admit it until now.”
- >At those words, the tears that had threatened to spill out flowed freely from her eyes. Pinkie tackled you to the ground, her lips locked deeply against yours, her forehooves wrapped around your neck.
- >Your own arms found themselves wrapped around her waist, her kiss being eagerly returned, it all felt so perfect, so real, but within an instant, everything was gone.
- >You come to. Your return to reality is not harsh, but gentle.
- >You first realize the warmth of something other than your blanket, then open your eyes to see your entire range of sight is blurred with a pale pink color.
- >As you look at a faded mane, you notice you’re no longer in your chair. To your surprise, you find yourself in bed with Pinkie, your body curled around hers.
- >The blanket that was across the chair now lay over the two of you. She nuzzles herself closer into your shoulder.
- >Her eyes are still closed, and they look wet as if she had recently been crying, yet a small smile is visible on her face
- >You pull her in close to you, one hand softly stroking her hair, the room bathed in a gentle golden light, you glance at your watch, 6AM, the dawn of a new morning.
- >The door to the room opens and Redheart is there.
- >Panicking you sit up “I swear this isn’t what it looks like!!”
- >She laughs, it’s a soft gentle laugh that matches her.
- >“I know it isn’t Anon, I’m very good at reading people.” She smiles at you.
- >She moves to the side of the bed “I would suggest getting off of there before someone else sees you. We wouldn’t want anyone jumping to conclusions, now would we?” her icy blue eyes twinkle with amusement at that idea.
- >You begin to extract yourself from the bed, but find Pinkie’s hooves wrapped around your waist, seemingly locked there.
- >A smile spreads across Redheart’s face as as she takes notice of your predicament.
- >“Just as I thought, it really is you, Anon” she chuckles softly to herself. “You’re the one keeping her going.”
- >You sit there unable to move as the nurse consults the monitors reading the pink mare’s vital signs and performs several tests.
- >You look at Redheart apologetically after Pinkie’s interlocked hooves grasp you tighter.
- >“She’s recovering rather well, the drugs and alcohol have cleared her system and her heart rate is returning to normal. If she keeps it up, she’ll make a full recovery in no time!”
- >Relief floods your system and you find yourself pulling Pinkie closer to you. Kissing her softly on the forehead, you feel her snuggle closer and find your heart skipping a beat.
- >Redheart stands there with a smile on her face. “Are you hungry at all Anon? I imagine you haven't eaten since you came in.”
- >Now that she mentions it, you are pretty hungry. You didn’t really get a chance to eat lunch or dinner yesterday and your stomach now rumbles to remind you how uncomfortably empty it is.
- “If it isn’t too much trouble?” You reply with a sheepish smile.
- >Again that warm smile spreads across her face “Of course it isn’t.”
- >She walks to the door then turns back to you just before opening it.
- >“I suspect Pinkie might be waking soon and if she’s hungry at all it will be an opportunity for her to eat as we-”
- >Just then the door rockets open almost hitting Redheart in the face.
- >To your unfortunate surprise, the person standing in front in you, clearly red faced with anger, is none other than your soon to be ex-girlfriend!
- >“Where have you been! I called you like fifteen times!” with little concern there is in her voice is masked by her anger.
- >You awkwardly check your phone while you lay in the patient bed next Pinkie.
- >It’s dead, but that is the least of your worries.
- >You cough and nervously clear your throat.
- “H-hi babe, yeah, I kinda told you that something came up last night...well...this is it.”
- >You knew this was coming, you just wish it hadn’t happened now.
- >The appetite you had before is now gone, but you find yourself glad that you hadn’t eaten.
- >You suspect anything in your stomach will be long gone by the end of this argument.
- >She looks at Pinkie with her hooves wrapped around you.
- >You swear that a vein burst in her forehead.
- “WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU DOING WITH THIS GOD DAMN PONY SLUT” she roars, her hands are balled into fists at her side, every syllable trembles with uncontained rage.
- >You knew she hated ponies, but you have never seen her this angry before. You don’t see the girl you loved at one point, you see an angry, hissing banshee straight out of your nightmares before you.
- >You swallow and steel yourself against the inevitable wave of anger.
- “I told you last night, something came up, Pinkie here wanted to see me” At those words, you see her nostrils flare, the fire in her eyes redoubles as you press on.
- “It was simply a night of seeing an old friend. nothing else happened.” You swallow before continuing, noticing that Redheart is giving your soon to be Ex a look that would freeze bone marrow.
- “I took her back to her dorm room, and left. I had a horrible feeling so I went back to check on her, she had overdosed on sleeping pills, medicine, and alcohol. I think the fact that she had worked up the courage to finally admit her feelings….”
- >“SHE WHAT! As if I didn't have enough on my plate, now I have watch out for a slobbering slut! God knows she gonna wanna suck your dick even more after we’re done with this.
- >“CALM DOWN, I did what any sensible person would do! I called 911. If it hadn’t been for me, Pinkie would be dead!”
- >Another vein erupts when she speaks. The rage and hatred in her voice is unmistakable and you now know the girl you once loved is gone. Before you stands the devil herself.
- “You mean to TELL ME, that you PASSED UP YOUR DATE NIGHT WITH ME FOR THIS FUCKING CUNT?
- “SHE ISN’T A CUNT AND I’M TIRED OF YOUR SHIT.
- SHE ISN’T EVEN A HUMAN, SHE’S A FUCKING ANIMAL NOTHING MORE, NOTHING LESS! I CAN’T BELIEVE YOU. DO YOU KNOW WHAT PEOPLE CALL SICK FUCKS LIKE YOU?!?”
- >Her words sting, you know what people would call you “horse fucker, animal fucker” others like you who had fallen in love with these colorful pastel ponies were shunned by people like the hellion in front of you.
- >She finally ends her rant
- “YOU SHOULD HAVE LET HER FUCKING DIE, THEN THIS PLANET WOULD HAVE ONE LESS DISGUSTING ANIMAL ON IT AND BE A FAR BETTER PLACE FOR IT!”
- Those last words, they echoed loudly throughout the room, you know the entire hospital heard it...You knew she hated ponies, but to wish death upon another living creature, especially one as intelligent and kind as Pinkie was irreprehensible.
- >You heard Redheart gasp, her face was contorted with so much fury and rage at such a hateful statement that the kind face you had come to see her with was unrecognizable, her mouth opening and closing wordlessly.
- >You feel anger welling in your gut from her harsh words. Pinkies’ grip on you breaks as you stand up and face your ex-girlfriend.
- >Before you were willing to try and make this breakup as painless as you could, possibly stay somewhat friendly with your ex, but after the unforgivable stream of hatred and anger that spewed forth from her mouth, you knew it wouldn’t possible.
- “Listen to yourself” you hiss “You’re wishing death on another living creature, one as intelligent and capable of rational thought as us, and she isn’t an animal, she’s a pony, she may not be the same species as you and me, but I’ll be damned if she wasn’t so close to being a human I can barely see any difference at all.” You take a moment to collect your thoughts, finally letting the unspoken words ring true and clear in the room.
- “Honestly, I was hoping to do this later when I could break it to you more gently, but now I see your true colors.” You stare her directly in the eyes “You aren’t the girl I fell in love with, you’re an angry, hateful, racist bitch and I can’t believe it took me this long to finally see it.” You swallow “We’re done, you and I, I can’t be with a monster like you, it took last night and you revealing your true colors to convince me of this, call me a horse fucker, animal fucker, what the fuck ever you want to call me. I’m through with you, the one who I see myself with, is Pinkie. Ever since junior high I’ve secretly loved her, and never had the courage to admit it, last night I finally admitted it to myself, and now I’m admitting it for the world to hear, I love Pinkamena Diane Pie, and I’d rather be with her than an ungrateful cunt like you.”
- >Those last words leave your lips with a venom you didn’t know you had in yourself, the whole time it felt as if you were slowly letting out years of accumulated hate, frustration and rage. You feel drained, but in a good way.
- >She stares back at you, mouth agape, completely at a loss for words, behind her you see Redheart pressing a call button for security.
- >Redheart then turns around, unbridled fury in her eyes blazing at your ex.
- “Who the FUCK do you think you are for coming into here, and yelling loud enough for everyone in this hospital to hear you” Her words tremble with unsuppressed anger.
- “Ever since that portal opened between our worlds we have learned that your species is one of the most ignorant when it comes to friendship and tolerance, the intense hatred and racism you show towards your own species should have told us that, but the vast hatred towards humans like you show towards our species...” She snorts angrily, you can actually see the steam shoot from her nose.
- “It honestly makes me wonder why I work so hard to save human lives when so many of you never seem to show any gratitude for it, but every once in awhile I do get reminded why” her gaze shifts to you, but immediately softens.
- “Humans like Anon remind me why I work to save lives, he reminds me that there is good in your species, I find myself pitying humans like you honestly, your utter ignorance and blind hatred leaves you unable to see the beauty in a relationship like theirs. You will forever live in ignorance to love in all its forms, any love you think you find will be hollow. Most of all you will have to live with with the knowledge that you lost any chance at friendship with a wonderful human being like him, all because of your own ignorance.”
- >As those words leave her mouth, the sound of running footsteps echo through the hallway, moments later a human and pony security guard appear.
- >Redheart quickly explains the situation and your ex finds herself handcuffed and being led out of the room, the entire time ranting and raving about how she would never be able to accept pony-human relationships, vowing to find a way to exterminate every pony on earth.
- >As her rantings fade you find your knees buckling and you collapse to the ground, dry heaving, there is nothing in your stomach to heave up, but it doesn't stop your body from tying, the entire time Redheart stood nearby, a comforting hoof on your back, a sick pan in front of you.
- >Eventually, with a final shudder, it stops and you found yourself breathing raggedly, your face drenched with tears, what you said you had longed to, but it still hurt, you shakily get to your feet and stumble over to the sink, washing your face, drinking some of the water to get the dry heave taste out of your mouth.
- >Drying your face, you find a new noise filling the now silent room, the sounds of sobbing.
- >Whirling around you see Pinkie, her face buried in her arms sobbing quietly, the brief hitches of breath she takes and her shaking shoulders betray the fact that she is awake, you quickly rush to her side.
- >She looks up at you, tears flowing down her face.
- “A-anon….I-is it tr-true what she said a-about m-me?” she barely manages to choke out before breaking down, you hug her, letting her sob into your shoulder.
- >You run your fingers through her hair, letting her get it all out, murmuring words of encouragement to her, Redheart quietly lets herself out with a nod to you.
- >Eventually the sobbing begins to fade and turns into hiccups, until eventually she is simply laying there with her face in your shoulder, an occasional shudder being her only movement.
- “Yes Pinkie….What she said...She meant...I had known for awhile about her feelings towards ponies, I don’t even remember why I dated her in the first place...But I think it had to do with...Fear I guess, fear of being labeled as a horse fucker as they like to call someone who has relationships with ponies such as yourself.” Guilt floods you as you admit your cowardice to the world.
- “But after last night, after seeing what you did, after searching my soul, I know I can’t lie to myself anymore.” You gently pull away so you can stare her in her eyes.
- “Pinkie, I love you, ever since I met you I’ve loved you, I can’t believe how long it’s taken me to finally be able to admit to not only myself, but you as well.” Her eyes begin brimming with tears again at those words.
- “I don’t care what other’s will think of me, I know this is what I want, dear God if I had lost you Pinkie...I don’t even want to think about...It hurt’s just to think about it. I don’t know why I couldn't say it last night, but I’ll say it now, I love you, will you be mine?”
- >The tears that had been building in her eyes spilled forth again and she leaned forward to kiss you, this time you did not push her away, or try to avoid it, you brought her lips to yours, the sensation….It was like the one in your dream, you never wanted it to end.
- >Time seems to stand still and only moves again when your lips part, she stares at you, her beautiful blue eyes leaking tears.
- >“I...I’m so sorry Anon. I’m so sorry for what I did! I was just so lonely, I guess I wasn’t thinking about anyone else. I was just so...mad..and sad...I thought it would be like a dream. A dream where I could finally be happy.”
- “DON’T say it was your fault, I can’t bear it” You can feel your heartstrings tugging.
- >”No, I should have been the one to talk to you about my feelings. I knew you were shy around me, and I thought maybe you liked me to, but even a pony who laughs at fear gets scared sometimes.” She rubs her eyes, sniffling a little bit.
- >”I don’t think I’ve ever seen someone as mean as your ex though...I met a lot of meanie mouth humans in junior high...But not one who wished death upon ponies like me.” Her expression darkens.
- >Looking back up at you, her expression brightening “But now I have you Anon...And I know with you I can face anything now” She hugs you, rubbing her face into your chest, instinctively you return the hug. “I love you so much Anon…” she murmurs.
- >You both sit there quietly, for how long you don’t know, it’s only when the door opens and Redheart enters the room again that you realize a whole hour went by.
- >She smiles as she enters “It’s good to see you awake Pinkie, there were a number of others worried about you.”
- >Pinkie rubs her eyes and returns Redheart’s smile, its the first real genuine smile she’s had since last night.
- >”Thanks Nurse Redheart, I’m glad to see you’re doing well yourself, I...I hope nopony is too mad at me…” Her expression darkens slightly.
- >Redheart smiles “I won’t lie you had a lot of us scared, but it’s thanks to this wonderful human that you’re still with us.” She looks at you, her smile deepening.
- >You cough, feeling your face flush as you blush “I-It was nothing...Really, I would have done the same for any pony or human…”
- >You see Redhearts eyes glisten as she wipes her eyes “So modest….” she moves to check the monitors and other machines monitoring Pinkie.
- >She turns to you “Pinkie should be able to leave today Anon, all tests are showing nothing but improvement.”
- >You feel a grin spreading across your face, you pull Pinkie closer to you, hugging her tightly. You know you’ve been given another chance, and you swear that you won’t screw it up, unlike the other mistakes in your life…

- (music for the epilogue)
- >It’s been three years now, you and Pinkie have been happily together.
- >The fear you had of what others would think of you for dating her were nowhere near as bad as you thought they would be.
- >Some had turned away from you, but the other ponies and like minded humans welcomed you in with open arms, there were far more people accepting you rather than the ones who shunned you, your worries and fears melted away.
- >You’ve come a long way with Pinkie, you’ve had your ups and downs but thats only natural in relationships.
- >However, although shes the same vibrant, funny, adorable pink pony she always was, there hasn’t been a day since the incident that that her mane returned to its normal, curly, poofy self naturally.
- >Redheart said it was because of the shock Pinkie put her body through, she also suspects its lingering guilt over what she did.
- >Its a painful reminder for both of you, especially Pinkie, but she looks in the mirror knowing everyday is a blessing, one she will never take for granted. You on the other hand know that everyday is a new day to show her how much you care.
- >Besides, she looks so beautiful with it down like that, and on special occasions she’s able to style it into its normal poofy self. It helps take you both back to happier times.
- >One day you found yourself cleaning your attic out with Pinkie’s help, finishing up for the day Pinkie stumbled into a nearby shelf, a box which had been hanging halfway over fell and spilled its contents.
- >A high school track medal rolled out, she gave you an embarrassed smile, smiling back at her you decided to look inside.
- >There were a couple more medals and some papers.
- >You read one.
- >It was an essay on a school project you and another student had to do.
- >The other name read Pinkie Pie, she looked at you with another warm smile, you both read it.
- >The essay had an A letter grade because the essay was on a topic she knew very well, baking, you and her had a good laugh reminiscing about the project.
- >There was another box in there, a box you recognized instantly, it was the box that the cupcake necklace came in, the very same necklace Pinkie wears around her neck all the time now, your special gift to her.
- >You bring her close to you, she snuggles close, you kiss her forehead as she digs her head into your chest, a tight hug enveloping you.
- “I love you Pinkie” you murmur to her, feeling your eyes glisten with tears.
- >She looks up at you with a smile, she pecks you on the lips, her own eyes wet with happy tears.
- >”I love you too Anon...Thank you, for everything” she whispers back.
- >You both just sit there, snuggled closely together, two souls intertwined together.
- >Life never has a clear path for us to walk, if it did, we would never learn from our mistakes, but if you ever find yourself off track, it’s never too late too late to jump right back on the one you’ve found.
- >If things don't work out, maybe they werent meant to be, but damned if you didn’t do all you could with the time you had.
- >Remember, second chances can be just a split second away.
