- >It had been another long day of patrols, paper work, and Shining Armor bugging you about every little thing.
- >But it was a relatively quiet life, and that’s what you wanted, so you weren’t going to complain.
- >With such a big family now, Luna’s room had been expanded, somewhat resembling a flying saucer on the outside, perched up on its tower.
- >The second you stepped through the door, you heard an all too familiar war cry, but it was too late already.
- >”DEATH FROM ABOVE!”
- >Before you could even flinch 40 pounds of d’aw hit you square in the chest, shoving you back onto the ground.
- >”Gotcha Dad!”
- >You reached up and pet Dusk on his head, laying your head back on the floor.
- >It was hard to believe he was already eight.
- “I’m getting too old for this, and you’re getting too big for this.”
- >”Aw come on Dad, this is the most fun I ever get to have.”
- >Dusk hopped off of you and let you get up, and you watched as the little colt darted around your feet.
- “Tell you what Dusk, how would you like to go camping?”
- >”What’s camping?”
- >Dusk slid to a stop at your feet, looking up at you with the cutest curious look you ever seen.
- “Oh you poor sheltered colt. It’s where you go out into the wild and try to survive for fun. How’s that sound?”
- >”That sounds AWESOME!”
- ”Well alright then. You girls want to come?”
- >Dawn was absorbed in her book, and didn’t bother to even look up.
- >”Nah, sounds boring”
- >”You’re boring!”
- >”Nuh uh!”
- >”Yeah huh! All you do is sit around and read books!”
- >”I’ll make you eat those words!”
- >”Oh yeah?”
- >”Air race around the castle!”
- >”123GO!”
- >Dusk darted off toward the balcony in the blink of an eye.
- >”Hey no fair!”
- >Dawn took off as well, but was already behind Dusk with his small head start, leaving you and Luna alone.
- “So who do you think will win this time?”
- >”Has Dusk ever won?”
- “I don’t think so; Dawn’s a bit lighter so she has a bit of an advantage.”
- >”That’s what I was thinking. At least Dusk never gives up.”
- “Dusk give up? That kid has more energy than any p0ny in Equestria.”
- >You made your way into the bed room and began packing you own bag with the things you would need.
- >Water, knife, rifle, some fruits, nuts, matches, toilet paper, a small tarp, a med-kit, and a homemade ghillie suit in case you went hunting.
- >Scratch that, you were going hunting. It had been far too long since you tasted meat.
- >Oh! You almost forgot the most traditional part of camping.
- >You stuffed the last bit of space in your bag with graham crackers, chocolate bars, and marshmallows.
- >Just as you finished packing your own bag, Dusk came in, setting his saddle bags aside and jumping on the bed.
- “That was fast! Did you win?”
- >”No… Dawn’s too fast in the air. Mom says it’s because I’m bigger than her.”
- “She’s right, Dawn is lighter than you, and in the air, the lighter flyer almost always goes faster.
- >”I guess.”
- “Hey, where’s that ‘I can do anything attitude’? You just need to practice flying more. Now, what do you think we need to pack in your bag?”
- >”Um… food!”
- “Right, we can’t starve. What else?”
- >”Water… um… a blanket?”
- “We don’t really need to take a blanket, but water is a good choice.
- >You watched ask Dusk filled his saddle bag with food and water, then sat there, thinking of what else he would need.
- “Since you have magic, you don’t need matches, or a knife. Remember your nightmare night costume?”
- >”The bushy looking thing?”
- “What’s it called?”
- >”Um.. a ghouly suit?”
- “Close, a ghillie suit. Go pack that, I might take you hunting.”
- >”Cool!”
- >Dusk shot off toward his room, returning about a minute later with his suit, and packed it in his bag.
- >”So when do we leave?”
- ”Tomorrow morning, now go get ready for bed.”
- >”Awhhhh.”
- >Dusk picked up his bags and trotted over to his room, and Luna came in, laying on the bed.
- >Your family certainly had a weird schedule, often waking up well past lunch and not falling asleep until past midnight.
- >As a result, the two sisters had somewhat altered their routine, taking on both duties once a day.
- >Celestia would lower the moon and raise the sun in the morning, and Luna would lower the sun and raise the moon in the evening.
- >All to help your family grow closer, and not be on 4 different sleep schedules.
- >You curled up next to Luna, kissing her forehead gently.
- “Goodnight moon.”
- >”Good night dear.”
- >It seemed as soon as you shut your eyes, you were rudely woken up by Dusk bouncing on your chest.
- >”Hey Dad come on get up the suns up let’s go!”
- >You snatched the little colt out of the air and brought him down next to you, cuddling with him as you would a teddy bear.
- >”Hey let me go! Get up! We need to go!”
- “Alright alright, geez. How much coffee have you drunk today?”
- >”None! I’m just excited!”
- >You sluggishly threw on a set of fatigues, grabbed your bag, and headed out the door after kissing a sleeping Luna one last time.
- “Alright come on Dusk, let’s go see if Shiny will let us borrow a chariot.
- >The two of you walked down to Shining Armor’s office, where said captain was eating his lunch with Cadence and their son, Cupid.
- >”Morning Anonymous! You’re up early.”
- >Shining Armor stood out of respect, but you quickly waved him down.
- >Cupid and Dusk ran toward each other and tackled the other colt, resulting in a white and black ball of d’aw that rolled around on the ground.
- “I’m taking Dusk camping up North, probably near the border of Gryphonia. I wanted to know if you would lend us a pair of Pegasi and a chariot to take us there.”
- >”Sure, how long you two going to be gone?”
- “One week. The chariot won’t be staying with us though, just send it back after a week.”
- >Shining Armor nodded.
- >“Just grab a couple Pegasi from the chariot dock, they’re on duty for a reason.”
- “Thanks. Come on Dusk!”
- >Dusk and Cupid cut their wrestling match short and Dusk shot off after you.
- >”See ya in a week Cupid!”
- >”Alright! Then we’ll have a rematch!”
- “Did you win Dusk?”
- >”Nah, I couldn’t pin him down, we’ll finish up when we get back though.”
- “Maybe I’ll teach you a few thing when we get back.”
- >”That would be awesome!”
- >The two of you reached the chariot docks, and sure enough, found two Pegasi without much of a problem.
- >A quick briefing and a few minutes later, you were in the air and flying toward the small forest in the north.
- >As the chariot descended, you shouted up to the Pegasi.
- “Remember, come back in exactly one week. If we have to walk to Canterlot I will not be happy.”
- >”Yes sir!”
- >The second the chariot touched down, you and Dusk jumped off and watched the chariot continue on, as if it were a combat drop.
- “Come on Dusk, keep up!”
- >You started off at a slow job, just slow enough that Dusk could keep up with his tiny legs.
- >After a bit, you both slowed to a walk, and took in the surroundings as you passed by them.
- >Eventually, you came to a small clearing just big enough that you could set up a camp.
- “Alright, this looks like the perfect spot. What do we do first?”
- >”Uh, build a fire?”
- “Or build a tent. Generally, I build a tent first if I’m in this kind of area. So what you’re going to do is fly around to these pine trees, and get as many branches as you can.”
- >”Ok!”
- >Dusk shot off into the air and into the trees, breaking off limbs with his magic and bringing them back down once he had a few.
- >You stuck to the lower branches, using the serrated back side of the knife to cut the thicker branches and tossed them aside.
- >With the two of you working, it didn’t take long to get enough material to build a tent.
- >You showed him how to drive each branch into the ground to help it stay in place, and how to weave each branch to make it as warm as possible.
- >Once you had a structure set up, you tossed the small tarp over it, and piled on the smaller branches to insulate it a bit better.
- >”Is it done?”
- “Yep, crawl in there and try it out!”
- >Dusk walked inside the small tent and looked around a bit, then back at you.
- >”Can you fit in here? It’s kind of small.”
- “Let’s find out.”
- >You low crawled into the shelter, then rolled on your back.
- “Yep! Home sweet home Dusk.”
- >Dusk floated up to your chest and curled up, shifting to get comfortable.
- >“I guess this isn’t so bad.”
- “Yeah, this is nice. Ready to start a fire?”
- >”You know it!”
- >Dusk darted out of the shelter with the speed of Kenyans, and waited for you to slide out yourself.
- “First things first, we need to make a fire pit.”
- >”How do we do that?”
- “Two ways. We can either dig a hole, or set up rocks around the spot we make a fire. Since we don’t have a shovel, we need rocks about… this big preferably.”
- >You showed Dusk the approximate size of the rocks with your hands, and watched as he darted off into the woods, bringing back several in a few minutes.
- >As he put them down, you arranged them in a circle, and he would go back into the woods, bringing rock after rock to you.
- >”DAD!”
- >You snatched your rifle from the side of your bag and rushed off into the woods in the direction of Dusk’s voice, finding him about 20 meters from the camp.
- >He had a rock suspended in the air, and what had to be the biggest rattle snake you ever did see in front of him.
- “Dusk, hold very still. This is going to be loud.”
- >The snake slowly shifted back and forth between you and Dusk, unsure of which presented the greater threat.
- >As it locked eyes with you, you fired a single shot at the snake, hitting it just below the neck and literally blowing it’s head off.
- “You ok Dusk?”
- >”…Yeah. I froze when I saw that thing.”
- “Good, that’s exactly what you’re supposed to do.”
- >You picked up the dead snake, examining it carefully.
- >It was a good four feet long and a couple inches thick.
- “I know what I’m eating today!”
- >”… What?”
- “This! Come on, grab that rock.””
- >Dusk picked up the rock with a telekinesis spell, and trotted back to the camp with you.
- >You grabbed a few branches that you hadn’t used on the shelter shaving part of the branches to get some tinder.
- >”I didn’t know you ate meat dad.”
- “Where I come from, we eat meat almost every day.”
- >”How come p0nies don’t eat meat?”
- “Well Dusk, a few reasons. Most think it’s uncivilized, the few that try it think it’s disgusting, and p0nies don’t have canines.”
- >”What does having a dog have to do with anything?”
- >You chuckled at that, fuckin’ kid.
- “It’s a type of tooth Dusk, see?”
- >You opened your mouth and showed Dusk your canines, pointing at each with your tongue.
- >”That’s cool!”
- “You want to try some snake?”
- >”Sure!”
- >Dusk grabbed onto the bloody snake, scales still on it and went for a bite.
- >Thankfully, you snatched it away before he could bite it.
- “Slow down speed racer, we have to cook it first.”
- >You removed the scales and guts of the snake, showing which bits to remove and which were ok to eat.
- >Next, you skewered the snake on a sharpened stick and slowly began cooking it over the fire, as Dusk watched from beside you.
- “Now before I give you a bite, you have to promise not to spit it out, no matter how nasty you think it is.”
- >”I promise not to spit it out.”
- >Dusk sat back on his haunches and saluted you, and you handed him a piece of the meat before cutting one off for yourself.”
- >As you chewed, you looked down at Dusk, who was chewing his own piece, a bit slowly, as if he was analyzing the taste.
- >Finally, he swallowed as you stuck another piece in your mouth.
- >”Can I have some more?”
- >This was officially one of the proudest moments in your life.
- >You happily cut up the snake, splitting it into bite size pieces for him, and sat by the fire as the sun slowly set, and darkness fell on the forest.
- >The only source of light came from the scarce moon beams that leaked through the trees and the warmer light of the campfire.
- “Well bud, you ready for bed?”
- >”Seems like we just got here.”
- “Yeah, but it’s not very smart to wander around the woods at night, that’s when the big scary monster’s come out and eat little colts!”
- >You tackled dusk to the ground and tickled his belly, causing him to squirm and giggle uncontrollably.
- >”HAHA-Q-Q-UITIT! HAHAHASTOP! HAHAHA”
- >You let go of the colt and laid back on the ground.
- “Now are you ready? We’re getting up at sunrise.”
- >”Yeah, I’m ready.”
- >You crawled into the shelter, and lay on your side, allowing Dusk to crawl up next to you.
- >The tiny colt snuggled up against your chest, and gave a little yawn.
- “Good night Dad, I love you.”
- “I love you too son.”
- “Alright wake up Duskie. Get your suit on, we’re going hunting.”
- >”Five more minutes…”
- >Dusk let out a big yawn, burrowing his head into your chest.
- “Come on Dusk, soldiers don’t get 5 more minutes. They have to be ready at a moment’s notice. And you’re daddy’s little soldier right?”
- >“Yeah…”
- >Dusk sleepily walked out of the tent, digging through his bag and pulling out his suit.
- >You put your own suit on; a bit slower than him seeing as it was 3 pieces, and grabbed your rifle.
- “Alright Dusk, the biggest part of hunting, is staying quiet and staying hidden. These suits help us remain hidden, but we have to stay quiet.”
- >The knee high bush saluted you, and the two of you quietly began creeping through the forest, keeping an eye out for any animals.
- >Several squirrels darted around along the tree branches overhead, but your .308 would do nothing but turn their small bodies into squirrel paste.
- >You jerked a hand, signaling Dusk to halt.
- “This is the best spot to set up, we just have to wait for an animal to show up for a drink.”
- >You laid down in the tall grass, and Dusk laid in the grass next to you, acting as your spotter.
- >That, or he was napping, though you nudged him every half hour or so.
- “Big bush to little bush, how you doing?”
- >”I thought we were supposed to be quiet.”
- >You had to do your best to keep from laughing at your son having more noise discipline than you.
- >Several hours passed by, as you silently waited for an animal to cross by.
- >Eventually though, you were rewarded with a massive grizzly gear.
- >You lined up the shot, and fired off a single shot at the skull of the bear.
- >It was a perfect one shot kill, and Dusk darted off from the tall grass straight for the dead carcass.
- >You couldn’t hold your sides any longer as the knee high bush scurried along the river bank towards the bear.
- >Just as Dusk leapt on to get on top of the bear though, a small brown creature dropped down down from the tree, and ended up being tackled down into the river.
- >You left your rifle in the tall grass and hurried over to the two figures that were still tumbling along the river bank.
- >Just as you neared them, another ball of brown fur descended on you, blocking your path.
- >Whatever this thing was, it was about your size, probably it’s mother or father.
- >You tackled it full force, rolling with it on the ground for a bit before coming to a halt on top of it, your knife at its throat.
- >About 20 feet next to you, Dusk had been pinned by the other creature, which you identified as griffons.
- >Strange, you had never seen them before in all ten years you’d spent in Equestria.
- “Let go of my son or I’ll gut your dad.”
- >”Let go of my MOM or I’ll gut your… bush.”
- >“How about we all just chill? I’m sure this is a big misunderstanding.”
- >You peered down at the griffon below you, whose eyes were fixated on your blade that rest against her throat.
- “Alright kid, on three, we both let go.”
- >The small griffon nodded.
- “1…2…3!”
- >You brought up the knife and pushed off of the larger griffon, and watched as the smaller one flapped her wings and darted over to her mom.
- >You quickly went over to Dusk, checking his body to ensure he didn’t have any scratches.
- >”Dad I’m fine. We just rolled around a bit and she pinned me”
- “I believe you son, but chances are if she did cut you, you wouldn’t have felt it because your adrenaline is kicking in.”
- >”What’s adrenaline?”
- “It’s something your body makes when it’s in danger so you can escape or fight off whatever’s attacking you.”
- >”But I didn’t win…”
- “That’s because griffons are hunters, and better fighters than most p0nies. Don’t worry though, I’ll train you once we get home so you can defend yourself next time.”
- >”Really!?”
- “Yes, but don’t tell your mother, she’ll send me to the moon for sure.”
- >”Hey uh… whatever you are. Your kid alright?”
- “He’s fine, how’s yours?”
- >”She’s ok.”
- >”I got beat by a girl? Oh come on!”
- “Calm down Dusk, just think about the fight, and wonder what you could have done different so you came out on top. This is a learning experience. Understand?”
- >You pulled Dusks’ ghillie suit off, revealing to the griffons his p0ny form.
- >Dusk looked up at you and nodded, then looked over at the two griffons, who were in total shock.
- >”Why are you hunting with a baby p0ny? And what are you?”
- “Maybe we can discuss this over dinner? After all, one bear is way too much for just me and my son.”
- >”I guess that sounds alright. We’re in a cave about half a mile downstream.”
- “That’s closer than our camp. Lead on.”
- >Dusk quickly ran over to the spot you and him had hid in and retrieved your rifle, carrying it over to you telekinetically.
- >You and the adult griffon each grabbed an arm on the bear and began dragging it along the river bank in silence.
- >The little griffon walked ahead of you, but Dusk remained by your side.
- “Hey Dusk, go make friends with her. If that’s ok with you miss…?”
- >”Yeah, go ahead. Not like it’ll hurt anything.”
- >Dusk scurried ahead and began walking alongside the griffon, their words to quiet to hear from back where you were walking.
- “Name’s Anonymous by the way. That’s Dusk up there, my son.”
- >”I’m… Gilda. My daughter’s name is Beata… How exactly are you…? Because whatever you are, you aren’t a p0ny.”
- “It’s a long story.”
- >”Fair enough.”
- >You are Dusk.
- >You just got your flank kicked by this griffon girl.
- >And now, Dad just told you to go make friends with it.
- “Uh… hey… I’m Dusk, what’s your name?”
- >She didn’t respond, just staring blankly ahead of herself.
- “I’m sorry about tackling you, I didn’t mean to.”
- >”I know… I’m Beata. You’re an alicorn right?”
- “Yep! Sure am! Just like my mom!”
- >”I though alicorns were extinct. Well, except for those princesses in Canterlot.”
- “You mean Celestia, Cadence, and my mom?”
- >”Who’s your mom?”
- ”Luna. I have a sister, she’s an alicorn too. Her name’s Dawn.”
- >“What’s it like having a sister?”
- “Well, she gets annoying a lot. She picks on me for not being able to fly as fast as her, but I pick on her for being an egghead. But it’s all in good fun.”
- >”That sounds nice.”
- “Where do you live?”
- >”To the west in Gryphus. It’s a big city. Really boring.”
- “Yeah, I know how that is. castle life is way too boring. Sometimes I’ll talk with the guards that are off duty, they’re pretty cool.”
- >”So, what are you doing out here? I figured you royal types would be all prim and proper.”
- “Not me! I like adventure, and Dad hates it when p0nies address him as royalty.”
- >”What about you?”
- >You shrug.
- “No one really addresses me as prince. They just call me Dusk.”
- >”Does that bug you?”
- “Nah, I think it would be weird, having p0nies bow to me, or having everyp0ny call me Prince Dusk.”
- >”Heh, I guess you’re alright. Don’t let that title go to your head.”
- “What about you? What does your parents do?”
- >”Mom’s a hunter, but this was my first time on a hunt. Dad’s a guard at the Jarl’s palace.”
- “Hey, this is my first hunt too!”
- >”But you’re a p0ny, you don’t eat meat.”
- “Dad says if I ever have to survive in the wild, I need to learn how to eat meat. I don’t see why p0nies don’t try it though.”
- >”Have you had it before?”
- “Just yesterday, Dad killed a snake and shared it with me.”
- >”That’s cool! I mean, cool I guess.”
- >Anon’s POV
- >The group finally stopped in front of a cave near the river bank.
- >You and Gilda began working together, skinning the bear of its pelt and showing your respective kids the different parts of the bear.
- >Gilda and her daughter took one side of the bear while you and Dusk took the other, cutting off chunks of meat with your knife.
- “You want to do the other half?”
- >”Sure!”
- >Dusk happily scurried around you to the uncut side of the bear, and paused a moment as his brain processed the task of cutting flesh with hooves and his herbivore teeth.
- “Here son, use this.”
- >You held out your knife in your hand, and Dusk took it in his telekinetic grasp.
- >You watched as the little colt began carving away at the bear just like you showed him, a bit sloppy, but alright for his first time.
- >When he was done, he held it up to you, and you washed it off in the nearby steam.
- >That night the four of you gathered around a fire, cooking several pieces of bear over it, the scent filling the cave.
- >Once more, you loaned Dusk your knife so he could eat his food easily, leaving you to rip at your own with your teeth.
- >”You never answered my question, what exactly are you?”
- “Human. And as far as I know, you’ve just met the only one in the whole world.”
- >”Heh, neat.”
- >You leaned back against the cave wall and gave a hearty burp as you finished your meal and watched as the sun went down behind the tree line.
- >”You guys are welcome to stay here for a bit. Probably better than whatever shelter you found.
- “We built a tent, so yeah, this is a bit more cozy. What do you think Dusk, you want to stay here tonight?”
- >”Sure. Like you said, it’s not smart to move around at night in a survival scenario.”
- >Dusk curled up in a little black and silver ball next to you, and you rested your head against the cave wall, closing your eyes.
- >You were the first to wake up the next day, and you took the opportunity to walk down to the river for a cool early morning drink.
- >”Morning.”
- >You looked behind you at Gilda, sort of confirming her presence.
- “Morning.”
- >Your new found companion lowered her head to the stream and dank a few sips of water.
- “I’ll be heading back to my camp today, don’t want to overstay our welcome.”
- >”I figured we could let the kids play, at least for the day. If that’s alright with you.”
- >You shrugged. What’s the worst that could happen?
- “Sure, why not? I’ll head back to camp and grab our things, think you can manage these two alone for an hour?”
- >”Yeah, go on. Shouldn’t be too hard.”
- “I remember the last time I said that.”
- >”When was that?”
- “Just before Dusk was born.”
- >You stood up on the riverbank and stretched out your muscles, preparing yourself for the run.
- >Dusk sleepily walked out of the cave, letting out a huge yawn.
- “Hey Dusk, I’m going to run to the camp, you stay here. Gilda is going to watch after you. Play with Beata, or… something.”
- >”K Dad.”
- >The tired little colt took a drink of water from the stream, and you rushed off upstream to the path you had taken from your old camp
- >You are Dusk once more, and right now your brain still isn’t quit booted up just yet.
- >Dad ran off, something about the old camp, leaving you with Gilda and Beata.
- >That was ok, they seemed pretty cool.
- >Especially Beata, she was awesome. For a girl at least.
- >”Hey Dusk! Wanna go explore the cave?”
- >By aunt Celestia that was a GLORIOUS idea.
- “Yeah let’s go!”
- >You darted towards the cave without a second thought, running right into Beata for the second time since you met her.
- >The two of you tumbled around on the ground before finally stoping with her on top of you.
- >”Ha! Pinned ya again.”
- >You pushed her off with a hoof.
- “I wasn’t trying that time, you got lucky.”
- >Beata rolled her eyes.
- >”Just come on, mom says we have to be back by dinner.”
- >The two of you darted inside the cave, diving into the darkness.
- >Pretty soon, you couldn’t even see the ground in front of you.
- >”Well this sucks. We haven’t even walked 100 feet and we can’t see anything already.”
- “Yeah, this does suck.”
- >You both sat down on the stony path, and you instantly had an idea.”
- “Wait! I can try and cast a light spell!”
- >”Then do it dum dum!”
- “Hey, ask nicely!”
- >”Please dum dum?”
- “I’ll take it. Hang on.”
- >Focusing all the magic in your tiny alicorn body, you managed to create a small glow that emanated from your horn.
- >It was just enough to light up the path in front of you, but only a few feet.
- “Better than nothing, come on!”
- >You and Beata continued down the winding path, going deeper and deeper into the cave.
- >”Man, it’s cold down here.”
- “Don’t be such a filly. It’s not that bad.”
- >”What do you think made this cave?”
- “Maybe a giant cave making worm of DEATH!”
- >”That has to be the stupidest thing I’ve ever heard.”
- “Oh yeah? And what do you say made it?”
- >”I don’t know. Mom said something about water.”
- “I don’t think water can make a cave. It’s water!”
- >”It doesn’t sound as dumb as giant cave making worm of death.”
- “It’s pretty close.”
- >Suddenly the cave walls disappeared and you both found yourselves on a bridge.
- >Peering over the edge, all you could make out was lots of darkness.
- “Looks like a long way down.”
- >”Eh, I’m not too worried, we got wings.”
- “Let’s stick to the path anyways.”
- >”Good idea. Wait, did you hear that?”
- “Quit fooling around, you aren’t going to scare me-“
- >”Shut up! Listen…”
- >You cocked your head, listening carefully for whatever noise Beata was hearing.
- >There was a faint fluttering from ahead, and you focused your magic to brighten the glow from your horn as best you could.
- >You gained a few extra feet of light, and cautiously took a few steps ahead of Beata.
- “Hello?”
- >”It’s not going to answer you dum dum.”
- >Squinting your eyes, you tried to make out any shape you could find in the darkness.
- >Suddenly, bats.
- >You let out a yelp of surprise, your sudden disruption in concentration caused your horn to backfire.
- >The force of said backfire sent you tumbling backwards, and you hit the deck as thousands of blood sucking bats flew overhead.
- >Just as soon as they came, they were gone, and you became aware of Beata’s body next to your own.
- >Why were your wings so stiff?
- “You ok?”
- >”Yeah, fraidy filly.”
- “I wasn’t afraid!”
- >”Then why did your light spell quit working?”
- “I uh… killed it so we could stay hidden.”
- >”Uh huh, sure. You were scared.”
- “They startled me and I lost my focus.”
- >”Whatever, just turn the light back on so we can leave.”
- “Uh, I need to recharge.”
- >”Great, and how long is that supposed to take?”
- “Uh, I don’t know. I never held a spell that long.”
- >Beata sighed and got comfortable as she could on the cold cave floor.
- >You didn’t really need to recharge your horn, that was silly.
- >But whatever was going on with your wings, you didn’t want Beata to see.
- >For some reason that just sounded embarrassing.
- ”So…”
- >“So…”
- “I spy something black…”
- >Beata hit you in the shoulder.
- “Hey!”
- >”Wise guy.”
- >A few hours passed, and your wings had yet to loosen up any.
- >What was that rumbling sound?
- >It wasn’t scary, whatever it was.
- >It almost sounded like it was coming from Beata.
- “You doing ok?”
- >”Yeah, how much longer? I’m getting hungry.”
- >You sighed there was no getting around this was there?
- “I’ll try.”
- >You focused your magic once more, forming another light spell from your horn, but a bit smaller than your original one.
- >”Finally. Come on dork, let’s get back to the camp.”
- >You walked slightly behind her the entire way back, so that your head was next to her wing and she couldn’t see your own.
