Commonly used characters
(Princess) Applejack
Appointed an Alicorn by Celestia, Applejack contends with the never-ending headache that is Equestria's inner workings and infrastructure. Though she started out entirely earnest in her ongoing efforts to improve Equestria, recently she seems to be slipping into some of the same habits as Celestia.
Princess Celestia
The apparently incompetent ruler of Equestria. After many centuries of rule, Celestia seems to have stopped putting forward much effort for solving Equestria's problems, instead applying patchwork solutions and ignoring problems in favour of cake.
Princess Luna
Celestia's sister seems largely uninterested in helping rule, and regularly shirks her royal duties in favour of lazing around doing not much at all. Such a sedentary lifestyle has given her a rather large plot, which remains so despite her recent attempts at dieting.
Princess Cadence
The utterly useless monarch of the crystal empire, Cadence is notably incapable of counting, much less anything bureaucratic. Most of her time seems occupied with actively ignoring Shining Armor and her work in favour of being a pretty pink princess.
Shining 'Shiny' Armor
The poor sod who's ended up the punching bag for most of the royalty of Equestria, Shining Armor is the leader of the royal guard and prince of the crystal empire. Often neglected by his wife, he sought to be made an Alicorn for his services to Equestria. He seems to of put that aside for now in favour of an ambiguously platonic relationship with AJ2, and a friendly rivalry with AJ42.
Queen Chrysalis
Ruler of the Changeling Empire, a large hall in Canterlot castle populated by herself and the last 70 or so remaining changelings. Despite lacking even the faintest amount of tactical sense, she is still set on taking over Equestria. She also relies rather heavily on a thesaurus to maximize her vocabulary. Briefly becomes incredibly smart (and sensible) when exposed to coffee.
AJ 2
The entirely too adorable changeling friend/daughter/love interest of shining armor, who enjoys all the simpler things in life such as crayons, 'Marchmalleys', and Candyland (the board game). She's also mostly indestructible thanks to the amount of love she's received from staying with Shining Armor.
AJ 18
Chrysalis' top infiltration expert, AJ 18 is currently on an assignment to impersonate cadence, seduce Shining Armor, and use his love to take over Equestria. Unfortunately, thanks to cadence largely abusing poor Shiny, this plan consistently fails. Chrysalis often sends her on absurd and idiotic plans and, in fact, hardly recognizes her.
AJ 29
A complete horndog in a vague, bug pony shaped form. He considers nothing but royalty worth his time and will settle for nothing less. While he has no tact, work ethic or care for anyone but himself, he does have his own little code of ethics, such as detesting rape and the like. That said, if you're royalty, be you Cadence, Shining Armor or even Celestia herself, you're on his seduction list, nothing will stop his attempts to make your fantasies come true.
AJ 42
Scrappiest of the changelings, she single hoofedly defeated dozens of his kind, several vicious beasts, and shining Armor. The latter repeatedly, much to the everyone's amusement. After so many fights with him, 42 and Shining have actually become friendly rivals.
AJ 56
A younger changeling, sent to study in ponyville to better integrate into pony society. He studies in the same class as Diamond Tiara and Silver Spoon. Despite his young age, he has a huge appreciation for huge plot, and consistently seeks the best and biggest of them. So far his favourite is Luna, much to her dismay.
Fluttershy and Discord
Usually seen together, Fluttershy has been granted Alicorn status by discord, and uses this power to help keep him in check. although she's known to be lax about this when a certain queen is involved. Discord remains his usual chaotic self.
Rarity (Rarra the Hutt)
Granted Alicorn status at some point, she secluded herself deep within the castle and wasn't heard from for months. Recently discovered thanks to a huge budget deficit, it turns out she's become a huge blob of a pony, living in decadence and gluttony.
Cheerilee
While stress manifests itself in different ways for most ponies, Cheerilee appears to become demonically possessed, and frequently sees visions of horrible creatures, though she no longer pays any mind to them.
