  1. Part 13 Plausible Deniability
  2.
  3. >You spent that night in a cell with two guards on shift
  4. >It was rather warm in there, and as tired as you were, sleep was tempting
  5. >Before you let yourself rest, you took a quick assessment of the situation
  6. >Your hands were bound behind your back with...rope?
  7. >Cool. You could work with that.
  8. >There were a few other cells, but they were empty
  9. >Perhaps they were eager to get rid of prisoners
  10. >Not a good situation for you
  11. >Still, you can't do anything right now
  12. >And you'd say that since you're far different than anything these griffons had ever seen, you deduced you were relatively safe
  13. >POWs generally are safe for a little while, at least after the initial capture, which is the most dangerous part of being captured, or so you were trained to believe
  14. >With that realization, you allow yourself to pass out...
  15.
  16. >Seven hours later...
  17. >You're woken to the sound of a cell gate slamming shut
  18. >Quickly you observe the events around you
  19. >The griffons had thrown in another captive, this one a pony...
  20. >Well shit, it's Goodwill Wright
  21. >It didn't take them long to put two and two together
  22. >Still, it would help if the both of you denied knowing each other
  23. >"Let me out at once! I demand to know what's going on!"
  24. >"Shut the fuck up, you damn spy!"
  25. >"I haven't done anything wrong! When Princess Celestia hears about this she'll-"
  26. >"What? Embargo us? Declare war?"
  27. >The two griffons laugh
  28. >Which silences Goodwill
  29. >"Your friend over there made a mess with some of our comrades, but at least he wasn't so damn annoying!"
  30. Who the fuck is this guy?
  31. >The guards look at you
  32. >"You're kidding, right?"
  33. Nope. I've never seen this guy before.
  34. >That's got them a bit rustled
  35. >"Listen asshole, you cooperate with us, and you might just live through this."
  36. >Pokerface
  37. I am. But who the fuck is this guy?
  38. >Just then, the door opened
  39. >Who could it-
  40. >Gilda
  41. >"Thank goodness! Gilda, you have to-"
  42. >"Shut up! You think I ever was your friend?"
  43. >He looks so downtrodden, like he lost a really good friend
  44. >She points at you
  45. >"You! You're coming with me!"
  46. >Well, this can't be good
  47. >Your gut feeling doesn't let you down
  48. >The guards drag you out of your cell and into a small room
  49. >There's a table, a couple of chairs, and a mirror
  50. >Well shit. You know where this is going
  51. >"Take a seat buddy."
  52. >You have no choice, so you sit down while you're able to do it by yourself
  53. >She sits across from you
  54. >"Alright, who the hell are you?"
  55. >This is going to be great
  56. I am Captain Anon, of the-
  57. >"Equestrian Royal Guard, aren't you?"
  58. Nope. Of the United States Air Force. My birthday is July 7th, 1989 and my social is xxx-xx-xxxx
  59. >A look of "What the shit" appears on her face
  60. >"Who the hell do you think you are?"
  61. I told you. I'm Captain Anon of the United Sta-
  62. >"Shut up! Celestia sent you, didn't she?"
  63. Sailor who?
  64. >She slams her hands on the table
  65. >"Admit it! You were sent on a spy mission by the bitch herself!"
  66. I don't know what you're talking about. The last thing I know is being in Afghanistan hunting terrorists.
  67. >You might as well be speaking a foreign language to her.
  68. >Which is what you're planning
  69. >She throws the table aside and gets in your face
  70. >"Are we going to do this the easy way, or the hard way?
  71. I don't understand why you're doing this.
  72. >She has the loudest sigh you ever heard. She snaps her fingers and two guards come in
  73. >They're carrying a towel and a bucket of water
  74. >You know what's coming
  75. >You don't flinch as they hold you down and cover your face with the towel
  76. >They proceed to waterboard you
  77. >That was downright unpleasant
  78. >Still, you've been through this before in SERE
  79. >Best to pretend that it was worse for you than it really was
  80. >"Now, Princess Celestia sent you here, didn't she?"
  81. Whoever this princess is, she didn't send me here.
  82. >Again waterboarding
  83. >"We can do this all day if we have to"
  84. I have done nothing wrong. I was not sent by a princess here, nor do I know where I am at
  85. >She rolls her eyes
  86. >"You can rot in your cell for all I care!"
  87. >Dragged back to your cell
  88. >Goodwill looks like he's going to ask you how you are
  89. >A stern look reminds him to keep his mouth shut
  90. >Your stomach growls
  91. Hey, griffon, I'm hungry
  92. >"Deal with it."
  93. I have rights under the Geneva Convention that state as a prisoner, you must feed me adequately
  94. >"What the fuck is a Geneva?"
  95.
  96. >A couple of days go by without receiving food
  97. >Your torture so far consists of starvation and waterboarding
  98. >At least they give you some of the water you need
  99. >Just enough to live
  100. >You're able to survive
  101. >Goodwill has surprisingly been holding up well
  102. >The two of you haven't talked to each other, but you feel that he knows what he should be doing
  103. >So things were going ok.
  104. >At night, when they leave you alone, you wonder if he has a family waiting for him
  105. >Guilt pains you when you think about that though
  106. >This really is all your fault. How could you let yourself get caught like that?
  107. >The days are similar to each other
  108. >You get brought into that room, and Gilda starts demanding you admit Princess Celestia sent you
  109. >Like the great soldier you are, you never give any indication that you know what she's talking about
  110. >In fact, you made up a story about you having been separated from your unit on your "terrorist hunt"
  111. >She is never amused though
  112. >Meanwhile, those nightmares still plauge you...
  113.
  114. >Day 3 of imprisonment
  115. >Today would've been the day you left, if you hadn't fucked up
  116. >"Both of you get up and be grateful! Gilda has found it in her heart to give you breakfast today!"
  117. >It's a biscut with gravy, a couple of pancakes, and some eggs
  118. >A couple of glasses of milk help wash it all down
  119. >They had untied your hands to let you eat, retying them when you finished
  120. >Still feels good man
  121. >Gilda walks in, and you're dragged back to the room
  122. >"Such hospitality should be repaid, am I correct Anon?"
  123. I thank you for the meal
  124. >She loses it
  125. >"LISTEN HERE! I KNOW you're a spy, and I KNOW Goodwill knows more than he's letting on!"
  126. >She's nearly foaming, and then she's calm again
  127. >"Look, if you just say that you're a spy, I'll let you go. Between you and me, I'm getting tired of this. My country wants to put Celestia in her place. She's done some terrible things to us, but we can't prove she did it. All we want is for you to say that you're a spy and that the ambassador is in on it. If you do that, I get a good reason for my army to invade Equestria, and I'll let you go. How does that sound?
  128. >Tempting to say the least
  129. >But you don't consider it
  130. Ms. Gilda, in my military service, we have three things called the core values. Integrity first, service before self, and excellence in all we do. I must decline your offer, because if I were to take part in it, I would be in violation of my first core value: Integrity. And if I did that, not only would Col R.T. be disappointed in me, but so would Major Aether, Captains Sherm and Leucine, and Lt. Wuten. And I would never do that.
  131. >Gilda stares daggers at you
  132. >"Alright. Come here."
  133. >You follow her back to your cell
  134. >She picks up a crossbow
  135. >No sir, you don't like this one bit
  136. >She points it at Goodwill
  137. >"Last chance gramps. Tell me what I want to know."
  138. >"Gilda, stop this madness! You know that I would never-"
  139. >*Click*
  140. >A bolt shoots into his head. His body goes limp almost immediately
  141. >"I never did like that old geezer anyways."
  142. >Inside, you feel terrible. That stallion faired well against the torture, never speaking out, and always seemed composed
  143. >And he died because of that
  144. >Moreover, he died because of you
  145. >"If you don't talk right now, you'll end up just like your friend!"
  146. >On the outside, you have a face of nonchalance
  147. Who the hell was that guy?
  148. >She's beyond frustrated
  149. >Gilda snaps her fingers, and a guard comes in with a sjambok
  150. >He starts whipping you with it
  151. >OHGODTHEPAIN
  152. >She snaps her claws
  153. >He stops, and another guard comes in with a nightstick
  154. >And that fucker starts beating you
  155. >He hits your sides, your arms, your legs
  156. >She snaps again
  157. >The beating stops
  158. >"Well Anon?"
  159. >You spit up a little blood
  160. Just who the fuck was that guy?
  161. >Gilda screams
  162. >Dude, I think you just broke her
  163. >I think she was broken before
  164.
  165. >Day...19 you think
  166. >You had received daily beatings since Goodwill died
  167. >His memory keeps you from talking
  168. >You still insist you're in Afghanistan "hunting them terrorists"
  169. >Hope was slipping
  170. >You never thought for a second that help would come for you, but you were hoping they'd slip somehow
  171. >So far, they've thought of everything
  172. >"Quit daydreaming! I'll rip your balls off and squish them tomorrow if you don't talk!"
  173. >Gilda seems to have gotten desperate
  174. >Her eyes... man that ain't normal
  175. >They're looking in different directions, almost cartoony in nature
  176. >She punches your stomach, and picks you up
  177. >Being thrown into that fucking room sucks
  178. >"You know, we sent a letter to the princess a few days ago. In it, we mentioned how we killed Goodwill and how we're going to kill you as well. She sent back a reply today. She condemned the killing her ambassador, but she asked who you were. She's forgotten you Anon. You've been forsaken. You have nothing more to lose by cooperating with us. Moreover, you have everything to gain. Your freedom and your life."
  179. >You don't know if it's true about that letter, but you know that the princess would behave that way. In the end, it still increased the odds of you surviving this if she didn't confess to your existance.
  180. >"I'll one up everything Celestia is offering you. We'll help you find Carolyn."
  181. >Wait, what? WHAT?
  182. >You're about to break the rules of a POW, but you just have to know
  183. How do you know about Carolyn? And what do you mean by "find"?
  184. >She smiles for the first time you can recall
  185. >She knows she finally hit a nerve
  186. >"Your little sister, right? You've been screaming her name every night for the past five nights. And something about your dad. I'm just guessing here, but you didn't have a good childhood, did you?"
  187. >You're blank for a minute
  188. >You can't remember
  189. >But apparently, you can, at night
  190. >Are those nightmares...your memories?
  191. >And why can you never remember them in the morning?
  192. >You shake out of your stupor
  193. >And you pokerface
  194. Carolyn was my wife. And my father was a saint. I must have some pretty fucked up nightmares.
  195. >"You're a terrible liar, Anon."
  196. >You cannot tell if she's bluffing
  197. >But you still have your pokerface on
  198. Which is why I don't lie. It would compromise my integrity
  199. >She rages
  200. >Apparently, she was bluffing
  201. >"You just earned another round of beatings"
  202. >Dragged back to your cell, you endure the familiar beatings
  203. >But now, you're beginning to recall something
  204. >The beatings feel...worse
  205. >You see your dad, and he...he's beating you with a switch
  206. >You now remember your childhood
  207. >You remember how your dad listened to Bruce Springsteen, and you listened to it because you wanted to make him happy
  208. >You remember getting good grades because he would be happy
  209. >You remember joining the football team, because he would be happy
  210. >You remember how he was displeased easily
  211. >You remember how he'd hit you with a switch throughout your childhood when he was displeased
  212. >You remember how he'd hit Carolyn with the switch as well
  213. >She was such a delicate little girl, and your father beat her indiscriminately
  214. >You remember that she always could count on you to help her feel better
  215. >You remember giving her bandaids and ice packs whenever she displeased your father
  216. >You remember telling your dad you were joining the Air Force
  217. >He was so displeased at that. For him, it was joining the Marines, or nothing at all
  218. >He tried to beat you that day
  219. >You had earlier that week turned 18
  220. >You punched him in the face
  221. >And he left you alone
  222. >But he took out his frustration on Carolyn after that
  223. >You went to Basic to escape him, but still had a hostage, which kept you from acting out of line with your dad
  224. >He still owned your ass because he still had her
  225. >He had come out to your Basic Graduation, but did not care to act fatherly towards you
  226. >You remember a few months later, after you found your fiance cheating on you, you had visted your home after tech school graduation
  227. >Carolyn had gone missing
  228. >The look on his face...
  229. >You KNEW what he had done
  230. >Still, you couldn't avenge your little sister
  231. >You were helpless to get him in prison
  232. >There was no evidence, and the police were inept as fuck
  233. >You had never hated him so much
  234. >Or feared him as much
  235.
  236. >You come out of your stupor, and it appears to be night time.
  237. >Trying to make sense of it all, you deduce that you were in a trance while you were beaten, and they stopped hours ago
  238. >Perhaps they saw what was happening to you, maybe they didn't
  239. >You don't even try to stop the tears
  240. >You loved Carolyn, and that bastard beat her to death
  241. >And he got away with it.
  242. >Your body was sore, and it was broken. Your mind was breaking, and it needed rest.
  243. >But you refused
  244. >Instead, you formulated your plan
  245. >You notice that your rope was a little loose tonight
  246. >Perfect
  247.
  248. >A couple of hours later...
  249. >Two night guards were on shift
  250. >One left to use the bathroom
  251. >Perfect
  252. Hey, griffon, come here. I need to take a shit.
  253. >"So take a shit"
  254. In here? I refuse.
  255. >"Where the hell else have you been shitting?"
  256. In your mother's face
  257. >That rustled his jimmies
  258. >As he came into the cell to hit you, you surprised him by pulling your hands, unbound, from behind your back
  259. >Running on pure adrenaline, you snap his neck and drop the body
  260. >You quickly get out of your cell and head towards the desk at the front of the room
  261. >On it was your knife
  262. >They sometimes taunted you with it, knowing you couldn't take it.
  263. >Fucking snakes
  264. >You take it, and wait
  265. >You weren't going to risk another fuck up like before
  266. >Soon enough, the other guard shows back up
  267. >"What th-"
  268. >You stab him in his neck before he has time to comprehend seeing his partner dead in your cell
  269. >You feel euphoria at killing him
  270. >That feels good
  271. >You get the urge to go on a killing spree. They fucking deser-
  272. >Hey.
  273. >What?
  274. >Get out of here first. Then killing spree.
  275. >You're the boss
  276. >Damn fucking right I am
  277. >You stealthily walk through the hallways you think you remember going through your first day here
  278. >Your memory serves you well as you reach the kitchen
  279. >You suddenly remember that those fuckers took your boonie cap
  280. >You liked your boonie cap
  281. >But you'll pay them back in kind later
  282. >Right now, taking some food will suffice
  283. >Oh god! There's..MEAT!
  284. >Savagely, you eat a whole chicken bare in less than 3 minutes
  285. >Fuck salmonella
  286. >Before you leave, you sate your thirst
  287. >Now let's go
  288. >You ran
  289. >You ran so far away
  290. >And you ran
  291. >You ran all night
  292. >Literally, you did not stop
  293. >As the sun started to rise, you see the outline of a familiar castle
  294. >Canterlot
  295. >CANTERLOT
  296. >Canterlot!
  297. >http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m3dZl3yfGpc
  298. >You sprint towards that castle, hoping against hope that-
  299. >"Stop him!"
  300. >Well that didn't last long
  301. >You recognize that voice as Gilda's
  302. >ShitshitSHITSHITSHITSHITSHIT
  303. >There were four guards around her, and they were all trying to get you
  304. >Just a little further...
  305. >You're not going to make it
  306. >Just a little further
  307. >Look behind you
  308. >Barely enough time to comprehend: They were 2 seconds away from tackling you
  309. >You were game
  310. >Drop to the ground, pulling your knife out simultaneously
  311. >A loud voice cracks as you're about to thrust your blade into Gilda
  312. >"WHAT IS GOING ON HERE?"
  313. >You see a familiar regal white alicorn flying down from the sky
  314. >"Shit! Come on guys, let's get outta here!"
  315. >The griffons fly away, leaving you with Princess Celestia
  316. >She lands feet away from you.
  317. >You try to get up, but finding that all the energy you had is now gone, you succeed in only getting to your knees
  318. >They really did beat you worse than you thought
  319. >Might have broken a few bones
  320. Princess
  321. >"Shh, Anon. We'll get you the medical help you need."
  322. In my shoe...
  323. >She wraps you her wings
  324. >That does it. Your strength is completely gone
  325. >You slowly drift into unconsciousness
