- >358 days to go...:
- >The one place in Ponyville that was open all night long was the local branch of Pony Joe's Donuts. They served bear claws and crullers, donut holes and cinnamon rolls. And some of the best coffee in Ponyville. If you knew the right time of night to come in, when Jitterbug was working the counter. She was a highly excitable pony, which some attributed to her excessive coffee consumption.
- >But tonight, Jitterbug only had two customers. Ponyville's prominent party pony..and the Princess of the night, Luna.
- >What on Equestria was Princess Luna doing in Ponyville at 3 in the morning, having coffee and maple bars with Pinkie Pie?
- >As it happened, the meeting between them was actually surprisingly quiet, given the two ponies involved were not particularly known for volume control.
- >Shrugging, Jitterbug went back to work. Sighing to herself, she lamented that this job would be great if it wasn't for the customers.
- >Meanwhile, in the booth, Pinkie just stared into her cup of hot chocolate. The past four hours had been...interesting.
- >Luna had caught up with Pinkie outside Anon's home, and after the walk here, Luna began to tell the story of the first human to visit Equestria.
- >His name had been Sweyn, and while Anon came from what seemed to be common background, this human was a ruler of his people. He'd come to Equestria much like Anon, and in his time here, he'd done many things, both great and small.
- >Sweyn introduced ponies to some devices they now took for granted, like carts and armor. He also taught the royal guard at the time much of the basic fighting that was still used to this day in the Guardspony Corps.
- >The Scandinavian had also introduced a few smaller things, like some kinds of foods may by his own people, including an incident where he'd taken a wild boar from the Everfree forest, and in what was nearly a major incident, introduced Equestria to bacon.
- >Sweyn was there...With the great rift caused by the loss of the Crystal Empire. The fall of the Great Sea Kingdom. He'd helped many ponies in his short time. But after his year was up...Sweyn was gone.
- >This was shortly before the time of Nightmare Moon coming to being, and was a hard time for Luna to talk about. But she'd explained that Pinkie, and perhaps the others, needed to be made aware of clearly of the end result of all of this.
- >What was Pinkie to do with this information?
- >"I don't understand, Princess..why...why are you telling me this, we already knew that Nonny was gonna-"
- >"I see what is happening, Pinkamina. And I tell you, no good will come from where you are going with Anonymous."
- >"Where I am going?"
- >"Do you love him?"
- >"Wha...That's crazy talk! He's a human and I'm a pony! That's just...that's just crazy! Hehehe..."
- >Pinkie was clearly uncomfortable with the question, as she'd not really answered it to herself. It was only a week since Nonny had gotten here! How could she love him? He was so different on so many levels! It was crazy!
- >But...he was so nice to her. And he was funny and he helped her when she felt funny, and gave her the best hugs and he was just..Nonny!
- >"You did not answer my question, Miss Pie. Do you love him?"
- >"It's...complicated?"
- >"Princess Cadence would be against me saying so...but do not fall for him, Pinkamina. All differences aside, when his time is up, it is up. There is no way around it. Believe me...I tried."
- >"Luna...?"
- >"I...was the one who brought Sweyn to Equestria. And while it was rough at first, over time, he and I grew closer. For a while...I was happier than I could have ever though I could be. But his time came. And when it did, he was gone, and nothing I could do would bring him back to me. I felt a shadow and resentment on my heart, and it ate at me. Hurt and pain consumed me, and lashed out at everyone and everything around me, hatred toward him. Hatred toward my sister, who could not help me. Wrath and jealousy toward the ponies that could still feel love and light in their lives. And eventually, I hated myself, for not being strong enough to keep him with me. So I turned my back on everyone and everything I'd ever cared for. And became the Bringer of Darkness. I became Nightmare Moon."
- >Standing up from the booth, Luna shared one last moment with the now crushed Pinkie Pie.
- >"That is what will await you if you love him, Pinkamina. Sorrow, remorse and regret, and I would see to spare you that pain. No one should have to go through such times. Please, let him go before you cannot."
- >"I...will think about what you've said, Princess. Thank for telling me."
- >Nodding, Luna left a few bits on the counter for the midnight snack. She knew full well the Element of Laughter would likely not heed her warning. But a warning she deserved, none the less. As was, Luna needed to be ready to lower the moon in a few hours. She'd wanted to be back in Canterlot by then.
- >Which left Pinkie to console herself alone.
- >Burying her face in her hooves, Pinkie thought about what Luna had said, and what she thought. Could she just let him go...?
- >Was she starting to fall in love...with a human?
- >Soft sobs came from her throat, while tears fell into hot chocolate...
- --------------------
- >Later that morning...:
- "You do realize that this is not making me like you any more, right? In fact, I think I'm beginning to like you less, and I don't like you that much to begin with!"
- >Rainbow Dash had come by early, saying that Twilight needed to see Anon. At first, Anon was going to tell Rainbow to tell Twilight to go mount herself on a fence post, but then Rainbow said Twilight needed him there to work on getting him home.
- >He was willing to put up with the she-devil horse for that chance.
- >"Would you be quiet already? These readings get thrown off if you move around too much!"
- "Twilight, I swear to God..."
- >Strapped to a chair with what looked like the same device used to measure Pinkie sense, Twilight was trying to get a reading on Anon's magic potential level. But it seemed like it had broken during the last time she'd used it and now.
- >"Would you hush, already?! I'm trying to run some calibrations!"
- >It didn't make any sense! Every test she made on the system said the device should be working just fine, so why wasn't it picking up any...
- >"Wait a minute. Anon, is there magic on your world?"
- "No. Just technology. Can I get out of this chair and spaghetti strainer now?"
- >"Maybe...I wonder."
- >The straps came undone, and Anon stood up, nearly tearing the device off his head. He'd been sitting there for an hour while she fiddled around with every button on the device known to exist.
- >"Anon, catch this?"
- >An apple came through the air, illuminated by a magic aura. Taking it in his hand, Anon turned it over.
- "I'm not hungry, Twilight. What's with the apple?"
- >Turning to look at Twilight, she seemed to be straining herself, magic sparking off her horn. But nothing seemed to be happening.
- "Are...are you having a power up moment? Should I come back later when you've ascended to super pony?"
- >The light on her horn died off, as Twilight tried to catch her breath. Anon was a little surprised. From what he'd heard, this pony was supposed to be incredibly gifted with magic. But here she was, about to pass out, it seemed.
- "You alright, there? Sounds like you need to work out more, Purple Horse."
- >"I..am not...A HORSE."
- >Sitting down, Twilight took a few deep breaths and managed to regain her composure, before taking hold of a clipboard and quill.
- >"I suspect there is magic on your world, Anon. But if my theory is right...one more test, and then I will let you go for the day."
- "Aw, geez...another one? We have been at this all morning, you purple maned jerk!"
- >"Jerk?! Now listen here, you hairless primate! I have done nothing-"
- >"But waste my damn time! I get that!"
- "I have done nothing by try to find a way to get you home, you IDIOT! But you are too stubborn to see it!"
- "Useless Bird Horse!"
- >"Brainless Chimp!"
- "Your horn is stupid looking!"
- >"Your hands creep me right out!"
- "You are a pain in the ass!"
- >"And you!...You!..."
- "I WHAT?!"
- >"GET OUT OF MY LAB BEFORE I HAVE SPIKE MAIL YOU TO THE PRINCESS!"
- >Chucking the helmet down on the ground, Anon stormed off, leaving Twilight in a very flustered, and very frustrated mess. Collapsing to the floor, Spike came into the basement lab after hearing several doors slam through the library.
- >"Twilight?...is everything alright?"
- >"I wish that human would walk off a cliff! And take his creepy magical energy draining with him! AUGH!"
- >Flushed cheeks and deep breaths aside, that man was so...infuriating! And...and...!
- >"AND MY HORN IS NOT STUPID LOOKING!"
- --------------------
- >Outside, Anon was busy trying very hard not to go back into the library and really give that mare a piece of his mind.
- " 'Trying to get me home', like I owe her any favors! It's her fault I'm stuck here in the first place!"
- >Looking at the door to the building, Anon reared a fist back and punched the wood, cutting the top of his hand.
- "Stupid tree building with it's stupid purple horse and talking lizard! I hope you get tree rot! It's all your fault I got stuck on this damn planet with a bunch of creepy talking pastel ponies who can't seem to get that I WANT TO GO HOME!"
- >Anon was furious, to the point that he didn't see the pony that was behind him...
- >"Do you really hate us all, Nonny?"
- >Anon froze for a moment, turning to see Pinkie standing before him. Her eyes looked like she wanted to say something, but the tears there...
- "Pinks...Pinkie, hold on a second, I didn't mean-"
- >"It's ok...I know you wanna go home, Nonny. You miss your family and your friends. And it's not your world.But.."
- >Wiping a tear from her eye, she tried to speak through sobs as they came out.
- >"I..I was hoping...you might like your...friends here...even if...it's only a...a little while..."
- >Pinkie Pie couldn't hold it back anymore. Even the happiest of party ponies couldn't hold back all the sadness she was feeling right now. Crying like a little filly, in the middle of Twilight's front step, she dropped to the ground. No sleep, plus slightly broken heart, makes for a very tired and wrecked pony.
- >Bending down, Anon wrapped his arms around Pinkie, whispering while she cried into his shoulder.
- "I'm so sorry, Pinkie. I was just angry..angry at Twilight and the situation...And you have gone out of your way to make me welcome here, Pinks. I'm sorry..."
- >For a good long time, Anon just held Pinkie and let her cry. He'd must have really hurt her feelings with what he'd said. It hadn't stuck him that she was that sensitive.
- >"Nonny...I...I have to tell you something..."
- "You can tell me anything, Pinks. Are you mad at me, hurt, what is-"
- >"I KISSED YOU!"
- >The look of surprise on both their faces, hers at having yelled it so loudly, and his...well...
- "...you did what?"
- --------------------
- >Back in Canterlot, three Alicorns were having a delightful breakfast of scones and juice in the palace garden.
- >Then one of them perked up, looking off into the distance.
- >"I sense...the start of a very strong love. Coming from...Ponyville!"
- >Cadence chuckled lightly, sipping from her glass, as Luna sighed. It figured that Pinkamina wasn't about to listen to her warning, but she'd hoped she'd wait a few days.
- >But it was Celestia that had commented on the statement.
- >"I see. I wonder if my student figured out the spell already..."
