- -Taking place directly after Chapter 1 Of Live For The Swarm-
- ---
- So you were now the pet of a creature alien to you and stuck with no other options.
- She didn't even see you as an immediate threat, only rubbing sulfur on the wound.
- In your world, even with remaining so secret, you were always in control of your environment.
- Nobody fucked with you and you left well enough alone.
- That all changed when your spell went awry and you ended up here.
- You slouch against the wall you're sitting against.
- You were left in a dark room after the creature's leader decided it was safe to leave you unattended.
- It was well known you were vastly outnumbered.
- Even if you managed to escape from the caves, where would you go?
- There was nothing but desert above you and a blazing sun to burn you to cinders.
- You were stuck underground, surrounded by hundreds of insectoid horses.
- It was best not to do anything to upset them.
- You gather up a small amount of arcane energy and conjure up a small orb of light in your palm.
- This was the only thing that illuminated your little cave.
- The place was about the diameter of a small bus, the ceiling about 4 feet taller than you.
- It didn't help though that it was covered in stalactites.
- You had been waiting in your little room there for hours to sleep.
- The buzzing from outside kept you awake.
- The buzzing noise never seemed to stop as it threatened to drive you insane.
- At this rate you would have to start slamming your head against a rock to pass out.
- Or you could let the queen bitch of the caves drain the life from you.
- You shudder at the though.
- After you had tried to intimidate her with your magic, you were met not with fear but hunger.
- You thought for sure she was going to rip you to shreds.
- Instead, she burrowed her way into your mind and swam about in your thoughts.
- That thing relished every moment of it and you were helpless to stop her.
- All your fear and anxiety seemed to have been amplified tenfold while she sucked it all out of you.
- You had never been so afraid in your life.
- Whatever the hell it was she did to you, it wasn't natural and you were far from prepared for it.
- Leaving you tired and drained, she took you in her magical grasp and left you here, satisfied with knowing you wouldn't leave.
- You were a prisoner here.
- A prisoner only until you regained your strength.
- After, you will lay down a few lines.
- You do not intend to be a slave, nor do you intend to be food.
- You are after all an Edlritch sorcerer.
- They will learn to fear you.
- It has been over one day since you were left in that room.
- You eventually were able to sleep and block out the never ending humming of wings.
- Much to your relief, you did not dream.
- You worried you would be plagued with images from the room which you awoke.
- The same room the horse creature feasted upon your energies.
- Before you drifted off, you pondered how the creatures lived.
- If you were to break from their oppressive grasp, it was wise to know what makes them tick.
- Having only seen the Queen and the hundreds of smaller creatures, you came to the conclusion that they operated as a colony of bees would.
- You knew not how they communicated though since they never spoke.
- In fact, the only one of them you knew to be capable of speech was the queen.
- The others simply carried out tasks without being told to.
- You lingered on the idea of telekinesis.
- Perhaps they could speak to each other mentally?
- Maybe they were a collective hive mind?
- You keep all these possibilities in mind.
- Having rested enough, you stand up.
- Your back is quite sore from your sitting position against the stone.
- At least your clothes have dried for the most part, though there was crusted remnants of the slime you were suspended in.
- You do NOT want to know what that was or where it was from.
- After a few moments of stretching, you decide it's time show off your abilities more.
- You want it to be known that you will not be a tool.
- You step out of the cave and walk down the tunnel to the vast cavern you assumed was the center of the underground complex.
- All around, the sleek black creatures buzz about filling the air.
- There are many more though in a large pit moving about stone and earth.
- You decide to walk back to the spring cavern.
- Not only does a drink sound heavenly, but you wish to wash the grime from your clothes.
- Any bug-horses that try to stop you will not succeed.
- You maintain a steady pace towards the spring for several feet until the creatures start to take notice in you.
- A group nearest to you begin to close in.
- One of the changelings leaps at you.
- In a smooth confident gesture, you sweep your hand through the air, energy batting the thing away like a fly
- The others, after seeing what you have done make no more attempts to attack you.
- They instead follow you though keeping a good distance between.
- You hear a few hisses from behind you as you come to the pool of water.
- Still no hostile actions made against you.
- At least these things were intelligent.
- You decide now was a good a time as any to flaunt your powers in their faces.
- You stand to face the watching creatures, and encompassing some water from the pool, you raise it to eye level.
- The ball of water levitating in front of you was about the size of a baseball.
- You will a bit of it away, splitting it from the larger mass, and catch it in your mouth.
- You are unsure if they even are affected from you showing off, but you don't care too much.
- All that mattered was them knowing you could bend the arcane to your will and they couldn't.
- When you decide to leave and start for the exit back to the hub, you see the tunnel is blocked.
- Changelings fill the way, lining the walls.
- You really don't want to piss them off and have the entire hive bear down on you.
- You decide not to do anything foolish.
- Then they begin to part and pour into the cavern, still clinging to the walls.
- The queen enters.
- >"Ah, there's my little magic monkey. Enjoying yourself?"
- You let the orb of water circle around your shoulders, still held up by your violet glow.
- "Yes, you little magic session left me bit thirsty."
- Your glare could pierce holes through steel but the queen does not seem intimidated.
- >"I understand you've been treating my children poorly. You should really learn to play nice."
- That smirk on her face is beginning to really
rustle your jimmies.
- "I will not be attacked. I will not be a prisoner and I sure as the Void am not your pet."
- You bring more globes of water to the air to meet the first and shape them into frozen spears having chilled them.
- You pointed them towards Chrysalis.
- She only replies with a roll of her eyes and surrounds your weapons with her green aura and tries to bring them back down to the pool.
- You resist.
- The two of you stand there in a battle of wills while your icy lances wiggle about in the air.
- Suddenly you're met with a blast of air to your stomach and you fly back into the pool.
- The water was shallow enough for you to sit up in and you sweep your hair out of your face.
- Chrysalis shatters your spears in the air, splinters of ice littering the cave floor.
- >"Not many would dare make such a bold, foolish attempt to threaten me."
- To your relief, her smirk is replaced with a raised brow.
- >"You have proven yourself above a simple pet, I will admit. You will remain a prisoner."
- Oh, what great news.
- You suppose it doesn't matter too much seeing as how there aren't really any living conditions higher than what you have already.
- Also, should you escape her clutches, where would you go?
- You glare at her as you rise from the waters and make your way back to where you stood.
- >"Oh come on you silly thing, it's not too bad being my prisoner. You should be honored. You even have your own room!"
- You decide there's not much to do but comply to her conditions.
- You didn't think from the start she was telling the truth when she agreed you weren't going to be a slave of any sort.
- You felt like a mouse being toyed with by a cat.
- She was actually enjoying your angst.
- >"You know, you're clearly powerful enough to escape. I'll even show you the tunnel that leads up the the desert if you like."
- Her smug smirk was back.
- You bring your palms to rest on your forehead.
- You were going to be here for a while.
- "Just let me go back to my hole in the ground..."
