  1. >The movies always told you that humanity always wins in the end.
  2. >Your scrappy, resourceful race has always shown its might in the face of great adversary.
  3. >At least, that's what you were led to believe.
  4. >This new alien race came in droves.
  5. >They were diplomatic at first, but the threat of a larger, more powerful race inhabiting your world scared the more ignorant masses.
  6. >Gunfire pierced the air that day, and you had front row seats to the inception of chaos.
  7. >Their pleasant looks merely hid their destructive potential as entire buildings fell with a glow of the horned ones.
  8. >These equine creatures, seemingly peaceful in nature, turned hostile in the blink of an eye as soon as one of their comrades sustained injury.
  9. >You hid in the many rooms of the apartment complex you lived in, as people scattered into the streets.
  10. >Judging by the horses' size, a few gallops is all that it took for them to catch up to anyone.
  11. >The horses, or ponies as they referred to themselves captured them.
  12. >The ponies without magic grabbed onto the scampering humans with their mouths.
  13. >A few accidental tastes later, they had a hankering for human flesh.
  14. >Spreading this knowledge among their ranks, any humans that put up a fight were immediately swallowed.
  15. >The more submissive ones were taken hostage.
  16. >Many ponies sported large, wobbling middles, often filled with at least one person.
  17. >Some celebrated in this new-found source of food, some were disgusted by it.
  18. >But all admitted to finding your flesh pleasurable to the oral touch.
  19. >How did you know all this?
  20. >Seems that most ponies forget to check under the bed.
  21. >Many passing conversations went by you, as adrenaline pumped through your veins.
  22. >Ready to run at a moment's notice.
  23. >But you only eavesdropped on the loud conversations that went by your room.
  24. >They seemed like quite pleasant creatures, if only you weren't their enemy.
  25. >Or on the menu.
  26. >You probably would have been friends with them in another lifetime.
  27. >But for now, your instincts told you to survive at all costs.
  28. >Having heard no commotion outside your bedroom in a while, you drag yourself out from under your bed.
  29. >Dusting yourself off, you grab a few essentials for the blind trip.
  30. >A bag, bottle of water, half-eaten bag of chips and a tin of bandages.
  31. >Better than nothing.
  32. >You stuff the meager amount of supplies into the bag before making your way out.
  33. >Though your bag's straps fit securely over your shoulders, it cannot hold much.
  34. >First priority will be finding a larger bag.
  35. >Opening the door from your bedroom, you freeze in your tracks.
  36. >A teal unicorn slept atop your couch, snoring gently into your cushions.
  37. >The white highlights in her mane and tail gave her position away to you far more than anything else.
  38. >Bright colors were a dead giveaway in the night.
  39. >Seeing how the pony slept so peacefully, you slowly tip-toed your way out, keeping an eye on the unicorn.
  40. >Her massive body rose with each breath she took, the sofa groaning with each inhale.
  41. >The soft mumbling from its mouth revealed the unicorn to be female.
  42. >The cute, little incoherent words that escaped her lips made your heart melt.
  43. >If only she wasn't a 500ish pound creature that could eliminate you with a mere thought.
  44. >Her hind leg twitches a bit and her ear swats at the air as you make your way past her.
  45. >Seeing one of these ponies up close is much more different than seeing them from a window 2 floors up.
  46. >A familiar peace fills you when observing her slumber.
  47. >Try as you may, focusing on a quick but silent escape was difficult.
  48. >The temptation to sneak under her soft, fuzzy underbelly crept into your mind.
  49. >A steady warmth emanated from her, causing you to hesitate in your step.
  50. >You pinch yourself, waking up from your delusion.
  51. >This is no time to be thinking of comfort.
  52. >Securing shelter should be your objective.
  53. >As you reach for the door, a force stops you in your tracks.
  54. >Your shoes are glued to the floor with a gentle glow.
  55. >A single drop of sweat falls from your chin, as your eyes trail to your occupied couch.
  56. >The mint unicorn stares at you with drowsy eyes, her golden irises piercing the shroud of night.
  57. >Before you can formulate words, she speaks first.
  58. >”Please... don't leave... for me?  I promise to keep you safe...”
