The Changes
1
I woke up before my alarm did, by magic or whatnot, and I hit some switches on it to prevent it from going off. I sigh and begin to get up, throwing my bedsheets into a jumble. I had just began to revel in the warmth of the sheets before the cold fall air took it away from me.
I threw the remaining sheets off of my and began to prepare, brushing my semi-short hair and applying deodorant, getting into the suit I had prepared the night before, and making sure the socks matched the shoes. Why I was doing all this was for the wedding later today, The lucky two being my Brother Mitch and some woman by the name of... oh there is the pamphlet... Destiny Walters... Oh well whatever floats his boat. What sucks is that he did not choose me to be his best man, but my brother Kyle. I can understand that though, those two were more in contact with each other than I was, me being stuck with my own devices, not having time to spend with the family. But I really don’t care if I am the best man or not, I’m happy for the son of a bitch. I walk up the mirror, looking over myself; average build, grey eyes which i catch myself gazing too intently into, short buzzed brown hair, which I note still had those crazy patches of miscellaneous colors. I still keep my hair buzzed, even though i don't really care for the service anymore, too much bullshit. But I only keep doing it for Kyle’s sake, something to hold onto.
Speaking of Kyle, I should wake him up now. Would be a shame for the best man to be late to the wedding because he overslept. I get up from my bedside and make my way out into the hallway and turn to his door. His room is next to mine, his choice, and was almost an exact replica of my room, save for a slightly higher ceiling and the missing closet doors. I consider knocking first, but I figured I can never have too much fun screwing with him, so I instead quietly open the door a slight bit. I peer in and see his bed, messy as ever, and notice he is out of it already
“Son of a bitch is already up” I thought to myself as I began to look to where he was. I ended up opening the door more, figuring he was either in closet, looking out his other window, or on his computer, which I suspected the latter. Turns out I was right, but what I saw nearly made me cry out in shock.
Sitting there was my brother on the computer, hunched over with a pair of headphones on, staring at the screen, wearing no shirt, hair all jutting out this way and that way. It was not all those details that shocked me, this was an average monday for Kyle, but the fact of what was on the screen. I could not tell at first, just a mixture of random colors and shapes from my point of view, but then I began to see that is was some sort of cartoon, little characters on screen walking about and talking about whatever they talk about. I was going to dismiss this and walk up to him when I began to notice what the characters were. Prancing around, flying, talking... horses.
The whole cartoon was about ponies, of all the sorts and colors too. The one on screen, a rainbow and blue one, was flying down to go grab some other ponies when it cuts to some other ponies on a cloud. It was also at this moment that Kyle had the sense to turn around in his chair and see me standing almost entirely in his room. He stared at me for a second before reacting, eyes going wide in fear, slamming his hand forwards, maybe trying to shut off the screen, only succeeding in knocking out the headphone jack from the speakers on his desk. The speaker began to ring out with the sounds of the video on the screen
“SHE DID IT! A SONIC RAINBOOM!” Bellowed the little yellow horse, jumping up and down in excitement. After It had said it, my brother shot his hand to the speaker, gave it a twist, then punched the power button on the monitor. The room went silent, just me and him staring at each other. I swear to god Kyle looked like he was going to die. Sensing that he had not breathed in at least 4 minutes,I say “Is your suit ready for the wedding?” in the most calm and collected tone I could muster.
After hearing my voice, he looks startled then says“Oh yea... that, let me get into that now.”. And with that, I walked out and he quickly ran up and shut the door.
I turn around, place my back against the wall and think to myself what kind of day was I beginning to unravel. Weddings and family and now... ponies.
Today should be fun.
