Pushed you to be faster, less you be engulfed by the wave of metal, man and beast that followed your back through the thick pines and soft earth. you wanted to reach the enemy first, before another of your brothers claimed their first kill. >You roared in primal fury as you rode into the open field seeing the blue flags of your vile enemies >upon seeing your small army of horsemen, the enemy was sent into disarray and panic >you brought up your solid war hammer and struck hard at the first man you saw. >you always made sure to make the first hit count. >the crack of soft flesh colliding with solid metal blurred together with the sounds of battle that filled the air around you. >the battle lasted naught but a few minutes, as you overwhelmed them and drove them away into the forest. >the common rank and file would see to them. It fell to you to secure the camp and inform you captain of how the battle went. >you order a handful of men to bring you the number of any fallen soldiers, and order many more men to count up the dead. >”those that survived the battle sir?” >you affix your War hammer back into it's strap then look to the soldiers “if need be, See that they are put out of their misery, all others, are to be clapped in irons and held.” >they nod and leave you to inspect the battlefield. >you hear the familiar sound of steel clashing upon steel close to you. >as you draw near to the sound you see your men by the door to a wooden abode. >”Sir!” One of the men calls to you “A force has taken to this home and have barricaded themselves inside.” “Foolish, they have already lost.” >turning to the door you ready your War hammer like a felling axe and bring it cracking down on the dried wooden frame. >it blasts into splinters and shatters at your blow. >from inside you hear the startled cries of men realizing they have nowhere to hide “Give yourselves onto me, or perish. >”You shall not have this doorway!” one of the three men inside yells out. >looking at them you see that they are weak and disheveled, they can barley lift the weapons they grasp onto. >you enter cautiously with your men at your back, weapons drawn. “We seek no doorway madmen, Explain yourselves!” >they one of the weak men charges at you screaming in a frenzy. >you quickly pull at the man at your side who wields a spear to stop him. >with a thrust he punctures through his chest stopping him cold. >the other two rush forward and shortly find themselves brought low by your men. >”What was that about?” one of your soldiers asks >”he just didn't like you.” one of the men replies followed by a chuckle from a few men. >”Or, maybe he picked only you, for he saw in your eyes undying love and companionship!” From chuckles to full blown raucous laughter in seconds, how those men could make you happy so. >after laughter died down and the rooms made secure, your eyes fell upon a large ornate chest that sat upon a alter. “You two, follow me.” >standing at the alter before the chest you instruct one of the men to open it. >he sheaths his blade and rests his palm on the lid. >forcing it open a crack a wind whips in extinguishing the candles. >upon opening it fully you and your two brothers by your side peer inside. >a light assaults your eyes and unearthly forces pull you in. >you all shout for help as the man who first opened it is dragged inside, his screams fading as if he has traveled a great distance >Your other brothers in arms rush to help you two as you are pulled in, the force getting stronger >one grabs onto your hand as the men pull onto you with all their strength “DESTROY THE CHEST!” >You command, as several men who seem to be unaffected by the force pulling you begin to hack away at the chest. >but it is too little to late as you are dragged back into it's light >as you yell for them you see the chest crack and finally shatter as you are dragged inside it's nothingness >from inside you see the opened chest's lid disappear and several wooden fragments fall down at your feet. >your two brothers in arms are with you. >they look like they are falling, their screams are muffled by what you think is air rushing past your ears, yet you feel no breeze on your face. >suddenly you find the bottom of this great void to open on an awe inspiring sight >you are looking at a forest near a lake, but from above, higher than any castle or hill. >your panic fades as you gaze into this perfect place >you recall what the madmen shouted at you as you entered, 'you shall not have this doorway.' >you can now imagine why. They must have wanted this all to themselves >was this, God's promised garden of Eden the priests and monks once talked about? >suddenly you feel the wind. >the forest moves closer. >you are falling now. >your panic returns >you remember back in your childhood when you fell off your father's steed. It seemed like the fall from that alone was an age, enough for you to feel your heart leap into your stomach. >this fall was nothing short of terrifying >you free-fall into the lake feeling the crash and the pain as your body bounces around your thick armour >the water is pretty shallow, at around head height, you manage to stand under water and gasp as your head breaks the surface. >you've never been much for swimming ”Aha! What luck to have landed here among the shoals and cutting rock and the deep!” >desperately walking on tip toes in heavy armour above the water's edge you make it to land, you drop your weapons and sit facing the lake, you cannot see the men that would have fallen with you. >if they did fall, they fell farther into the lake than you did, and with their armour weighing them down... >you shiver at the thought of such a terrible way to go. >taking off your helmet, letting your shield fall off your arm and placing the war hammer by your side. you rest against the warm grass that lines the lake, staring into the slow moving clouds. >after an age of rest you spot something glide across the sky. “That is a very large bird.” >the winged creature flies closer. “That is no bird, it has legs, arms too.” >the creature lands a fair distance away from you, making it hard to see it's shape silhouetted against the trees backdrop. “What kind of unknown creature walks upon four legs and flies on wings. What madness is this.” >you groan as you ready yourself grabbing your war hammer, shield and helmet again and marching in heavy clunking armour towards where it landed. >you had to see this beast for yourself, it must have been your eyes playing tricks on you but you swear it was that of an equine. “A flying horse. Such things are myth. The fall into the water has broke my eyes and tricked my mind surely.” >with a slightly louder 'clunk' than was necessary, you rest your body against the rocks overlooking where the creature landed. “as expected of, the creature was a lie.” >looking over the place however you spot marks leading into the forest. “Or perhaps, the creature has moved away into the woods yonder.” >resting your war hammer against your shoulder, but keeping your shield ready, you take your first steps into the forest
