  2.
  3. >It’s night in Canterlot, and you can’t sleep.
  4. >Staying up late studying all week for the trip you had planned with Twilight.
  5. >She managed to get you into the library for some quiet time with the books.
  6. >You needed to brush up on the dangerous Flora and Fauna of the world.
  7. >That, and you were still trying to acclimate yourself to the new languages of Equestria.
  8. >You sat by the candle light in the dark library, still unable to sleep.
  9. >Was it trepidation for the upcoming journey?
  10. >Or was it something more?
  11. >You’ve felt a feeling of loneliness that only one pers-p0ny so far has been able to assuage.
  12. >”Oh, hello Anonymous.” You hear from behind you.
  13. >You turn around in your chair, and see Princess Luna walking towards you.
  14. >Her ethereal mane blowing the non-existant wind.
  15. >She smiles at your presence.
  16. “Oh hello Princess Luna, can I help you with something?”
  17. >Her smile droops a bit.
  18. >”We were simply wandering the castle. The night is calm, and we find ourselves stricken by boredom.”
  19. >You always had got along with the Night Princess.
  20. >Both of you had a hard time fitting in with this strange society.
  21. >You were almost like birds of a feather.
  22. >She had been one of the first to teach you how to speak the local dialect.
  23. >She was also your closest friend.
  24. >In the two years you have been here, no p0ny has treated you with more kindness.
  25. “Of course, your highness,” you say, shuffling a few books, “Care to take a seat?”
  26. >You slide a few books off the table in front of the fireplace, and motion to the other arm chair.
  27. >She trots over, settling into the red chair.
  28. >You pour her a cup of tea from the pot you had sitting there.
  29. >You hand it to her, and she takes it with her magic.
  30. “I would assume your Sister has already gone to bed?”
  31. >”That is correct. She has so much to do during the day; she often makes her way to bed early, leaving the protection of the Equestria to me in the night.”
  32. “It must get awfully lonely sometimes around here.” You say sipping your tea.
  33. >She ruffles her wing feathers, but you are too caught up in your own tea to notice.
  34. >”We-well, we do appreciate any company that may join us in the evening.”
  35. “Hehe, that’s funny. Often times I find myself so busy during the day with errands and research, that I have little time to sit and relax other than during the night.”
  36. >”We- I have noticed in some of the letters that my Sister has regaled to me about her student. She notes that you often stay up and read all hours of the night.”
  37. “It’s true. I have often suffered from Insomnia, and reading books, or staring up at the night sky always seems to help.”
  38. >She smiles again, slightly blushing.
  39. >You get up, and head to one of the windows.
  40. “The night here is truly a thing of beauty. Back on my world, it was nearly impossible to see the moon and the stars from the lights of the city.”
  41. >You hear hoofsteps behind you.
  42. “When I was but a young lad, I remember one night out in the countryside. Suddenly, a shooting star lit up the sky. I made a wish upon that star. It was the most beautiful thing I had ever seen.”
  43. >”And what was your wish?” she asks standing behind you.
  44. “Now Princess, if I told you that, it would never come true. Besides, I doubt it would happen now anyways.”
  45. >”But why not? Is it not in the nature of wishes to come true regardless of the situation?”
  46. >You laugh quietly.
  47. “I was a foolish lad. I wished that I would be able to share that night again with the one I loved. Now that I am here, I’ll likely never see my own sky again. Makes me kind of homesick.”
  48. >You can feel a feathery wing against your back.
  49. >”Anonymous, we are so sorry for what has happened to you. If there is anything w-I can do for you...”
  50. >You turn around, seeing the faintest sign of a tear in Luna’s eye.
  51. >You embrace her.
  52. “No. But thank you Luna. You’ve always been such a good friend.”
  53. >She breaks from the hug, looking away from you.
  54. >She looks away from you.
  55. >”If you’ll excuse me Anonymous, we just remembered a task we must complete. If you’ll excuse us.”
  56. >She turns and sulks away.
  57. >What just happened?
  58. >She opens a door.
  59. >As she walks back to a nondescript room, she turns back for a brief moment.
  60. >Was that...sorrow?
  61. >Regret?
  62. >She turns away, and her form leaves your sight.
  63. >She couldn't...
  64. >No.
  65. >Not for you.
  66. >After all this time, you never realised.
  67. >You were such an idiot.
  68. >Your pappy always told you “Son, one day your thick head is going to get you in trouble. But, if you keep that big heart of yours everything should turn out fine.”
  69. >You just messed up.
  70. >Royally.
  71. >But, did you feel the same?
  72. >Sure, Twilight and Celestia took you in, when you had nowhere to go.
  73. >But it was Luna who gave you the company you truly needed.
  74. >She was always the one you could go to.
  75. >She was the epitome of a friend.
  76. >But, could you really feel the same?
  77. >After the first year here, you gave up trying to find a way home.
  78. >You accepted the fact that you would never see your family again.
  79. >But then again...
  80. >You had family and friends here now.
  81. >You had made up your mind.
  82. >You only wish you had done it sooner.
  83. >Hopefully it was not too late.
  84. >You dash over to the door Luna went through, a spiralling staircase leading up one of the castle parapets.
  85. >You race up the stairs.
  86. >Once you reach the top, you open the wooden door, and emerge onto the roof of the castle.
  87. >You can see a familiar blue figure sitting near the edge.
  88. >You stare up into the night sky, a few of the stars re-arranging themselves.
  89. >You tiptoe over towards the figure.
  90. >She shudders in the night air.
  91. >You remove your coat and drape it over her back.
  92. >She turns around, her cheeks damp with tears.
  93. “My pappy always told me I was a block head.” You say, sitting next to her.
  94. >”What?” she asks, trying to hold back more tears.
  95. “I never even noticed my wish came true.”
  96. >”But... But you said you wanted to see your own sky? Back home?”
  97. “We have a saying. Home is where the heart is. And right now, a certain somep0ny holds my heart. So I guess this is home.” You say, smiling at her.
  98. >She turns to you, more tears in her eyes.
  99. >You embrace her, as she does you.
  100. >And the skies light up with shooting stars.
  101. >Many new wishes were made that night.
  102. >But yours?
  103. >It was finally fulfilled.
