  1. >Scorched Earth.
  2. >That was the policy those militia men had.
  3. >If they couldn’t run your out,
  4. >They’d burn you out.
  5. >You awaken to the familiar smell of charred plant material.
  6. >It has been 2 days since you have infiltrated that blasted temple.
  7. >The weight of your precious cargo has begun to take its toll.
  8. >Your back pains every time shift position.
  9. >The heat and humidity were slowly getting to you as well, making your gear become unreliable.
  10. >The torrential downpours that sporadically happen can reduce visibility to nil in a matter of moments.
  11. >The straps of your pack dug into your shoulders, leaving nasty marks.
  12. >But your band of survivors trudged on.
  13. >The local army was hell bent on recovering whatever it was you found.
  14. >It was your job to make sure they didn’t get it.
  15. >You sink your hands into the fertile undergrowth as you stand up.
  16. >Mikial and Christopherson were already up.
  17. >Your small makeshift camp would need to be disassembled soon if you were going to try and make it to the port soon.
  18. >Ch”Good your up. We need to go. Heard the dogs barking not too long ago. Think they missed us, but we can’t take the chance on a second patrol. How’s the back?”
  19. “It’s been better,” you grunt, opening your pack and munching on a high protein ration.
  20. >Ch:”Mikial said to meet him a few paces ahead once you’re up. You awake?”
  21. “Yeah, I’m fine. Any word from Big Momma?”
  22. >Ch:”Nothing, you know that. Our only chance now is to board a ship at port before the locals find us. Standard disavowal deal. Let’s get moving.” He says while putting out the small fire he managed to light.
  23. >The two of you quickly destroy the makeshift camp, and hid anything that may have alluded to your presence.
  24. >You head deeper into the dark jungle, in a search for sanctuary.
  25. Back in P0nyville...
  26. >A young purple mare lies in a hospital bad.
  27. >The clock on the walls reads 3:00AM.
  28. >Inside the room with her are her brother and his wife.
  29. “How long has she been like this?” Shining asks
  30. >”Ever since she was brought over. I tried everything to snap her out of it. She must have gone through quite the ordeal.”
  31. “You don’t even know the half of it. Whatever it was they found down there was NOT natural. At least she’s going to be ok.”
  32. >”What about him?”
  33. “The doctors don’t know. We still aren’t completely sure what transpired within the shield. That, and the fact that we know almost nothing about his species.”
  34. >”Is he going to...”
  35. “We don’t know. After I pulled him out of the wreckage, he was babbling incoherently. We rushed him over here as fast as we could. He’s been unresponsive since we got him sedated. The drugs wore off, but he didn’t wake up.”
  36. >”What exactly happened?”
  37. “Im not sure you want to know...”
  38. >The conversation is interrupted by a knock at the door.
  39. >Ce:”I hope I’m not interrupting anything” Princess Celestia says, walking into the room.
  40. “Of course not your Highness, how’s the other patient?”
  41. >Ce:”Still unresponsive unfortunately. We removed the amulet around his neck, and tried to mend his leg, but other than that, we do not know what the extent of his injuries are.” She says sullenly “I was hoping you could send me a report about what happened sometime tomorrow, but for tonight, tend to your sister.”
  42. “I will, thank you” Shining Armour says, as the Princess leaves the room.
  43. >He puts his foreleg around his wife and pulls her close.
  44. >Twilight still lays in the hospital bed, sound asleep.
  45. >It was going to be a long night.
  46.
  47. >M:“DAMMIT PULL YOUR HEAD OUT OF YOUR ASS AND SHOOT BACK!” Mikial screams in your ear.
  48. >Your surroundings blur and change.
  49. >You’re on top of a blown out building, with the local militia bearing down on your location.
  50. >Your precious cargo is in your backpack.
  51. >It’s begun moving lately.
  52. >You do not have much time to get out of here.
  53. >You grab your rifle, and begin taking pot-shots, and the enemy soldiers over the wall.
  54. >You needed to cover Christopherson while he prepared transport.
  55. >The soldiers bellowed orders at each other, desperate to secure your find.
  56. >Spotting a soldier coming up the stairs behind you, you empty what was left of your mag into his skull.
  57. >Brain matter splatters the wall behind him, as his lifeless husk falls to the floor.
  58. >The egg shakes violently in your pack.
  59. >It tosses you off balance, as your pack slips from your shoulders.
  60. >You feel a sudden wave of relief as the massive egg tumbles to the floor.
  61. >M”There’s a few left, we’ve almost got them.” Mikial yells at you.
  62. >You lean over the wall, spotting the remaining soldiers hiding behind a wall.
  63.
  64. >Taking your last grenade, your hurl it with the force of an angry god towards them.
  65. >The pint-sized explosive whistles through the air, landing soundly next to the wall.
  66. >It explodes, collapsing what remains of the wall onto the soldiers.
  67. >For the first time in hours, quiet falls over the battlefield.
  68. >M:”Nice shot,” Mikial says “But what’s up with the egg over there?”
  69. >You look over, and notice a large crack along the side of the egg.
  70. >You peer into it, and find two blood red eyes staring back at you.
  71. >What in God’s name?
  72. >The egg  suddenly bursts, revealing a tiny creature, about 3 feet tall.
  73. >Before you can get a decent look at it, it scurries off down the stairs.
  74. “FOLLOW IT” you yell while dashing after the creature.
  75. >You sprint as fast as your tired body will carry you.
  76. >You barely catch a glimpse of the creature as it makes it’s way out the door and onto the battlefield.
  77. >It stops near one of the fallen militia men, who was still alive.
  78. >It lets out a terrifying screech and jumps onto the man’s face.
  79. >All you can hear is the sickening sound of gnashing teeth on flesh, then bone.
  80.
  81. >Two weeks later...
  82. >”Twi, are ya sure you should be up and about after all that?” Applejack asks.
  83. “Honestly, I’m fine. I’ve never felt better” Twilight says, setting the vase full of flowers onto the table beside the sleeping mage.
  84. “Thanks for coming with me today. I’m sure Anonymous enjoys the company.”
  85. >” I reckon he does, but do ya have to come every day? Especially considering what YOU’VE been through.”
  86. “Of course I do!” she says, feeling a bit angry at the remark. “He saved MY LIFE. He saved all our lives that night.”
  87. >”I guess so, it’s just that the Doc said he’s not sure if...”
  88. “If WHAT Applejack? IF WHAT?” she snaps.
  89. >Applejack recoils a bit.
  90. “I... I ‘m sorry.” Twilight says, slumping down in the chair beside Anon.
  91. >”It’s alright Sugercube, I know it’s been tough. Say, I’ll go get the others, and tomorrow we’ll all pay him a visit.”
  92. “Thanks” is all she manages to say, before sullenly staring at the ground.
  93. >Applejack takes this as her cue to leave, and departs through the door.
  94. >As she walks away, she can hear the sounds of a soft crying coming from the room.
  95. >This has been hard on all of you.
  96. >Her especially though.
  97. >Applejack walks into the waiting room, and sees Spike perusing a magazine.
  98. >”Heya Spike, mind taken down a letter for me?”
  99.
  100. “WHAT THE FUCK” is all you manage to scream as the creature pries itself from the now lifeless corpse.
  101. >The creature is absolutely drenched in blood and brain matter, as it emerges from the chest cavity of the man.
  102. >Mikial vomits onto the ground beside you.
  103. >The creature scurries off to another body, and repeats the process.
  104. >This mission just got WAY more fucked up.
  105. >You pull out your COM set and patch in to an old buddy of yours.
  106. >FUCK protocol, this was a full blown red alert now.
  107. “I KNOW YOU CAN HERE ME S, PICK UP”
  108. >The device crackles to life, displaying a picture of your old war buddy.
  109. >S:”ANON? YOU KNOW THIS CHANNEL IS RESTRICTED!”
  110. “Fuck protocol, look at this” you say, spinning the visual attachment around and zooming in on the creature.
  111. “I need you to patch me through to Big Momma. I don’t care what it takes, just DO IT.”
  112. >S:”My God. I’ll put you through. I expect the SCP boys will be there soon as well, so you better make yourself scarce. Keep an eye on that, that THING, as long as you can”
  113. >Before you respond, the line goes dead.
  114. “Mikial?”
  115. >M:”Yeah man?”
  116. “We are so fucked.”
  117. >M:”Just like the good ol’ days.”
  118. >You sit there a moment longer, documenting the creatures behaviour.
  119. >What behaviour?
  120. >It just ripped the heart out of that guy’s chest and devoured it.
  121. >You pull out a cigarette and light it.
  122. >M:” So, what do we do now?”
  123. “Find Chris, grab some supplies and follow it. The Ghosties are on their way.”
  124. >M:”Just like back in the bayou.”
  125. >You could never look at New Orleans  the same way after that.
  126. >Now the same could be said for South America.
  127.
  128. >Back in the Hospital...
  129. >”Well it seems like he’s experiencing some form of Memory Recall” the Doctor says “And these memories are what’s keeping him unconscious”
  130. >The purple mare and her white teacher stare at the doctor.
  131. So, what does this mean Doctor? Will he snap out of it?” Twilight asks
  132. >D:”I’m not sure, from the screaming, it seems like his subconscious is making him relive a traumatic event as a coping mechanism for what happened.” He says, closing Anon’s eyelids. “I’m not a therapist, just a Doctor, and it looks like he has some serious issues to work through. Other than that, his body seems to be healing well. For now, I have other patients that need attending to” he says leaving the room.
  133. “Princess, is there anything we can do?” Twilight says, looking up to her mentor.
  134. >”I am not sure Twilight, I have peered into his mind before and found some, disturbing things, but not to warrant such reaction as this. Has he told you anything about a history of this?”
  135. >Twilight recounts the story of when Anonymous first met Spike, and the story he told.
  136. >”Well, that would help explain this reaction.” She says “I have an idea, but I need to be left alone with Anonymous.”
  137. “I understand” Twilight says, and leaves the room.
  138. >Celestia’s horn glows bright, as she touches his forehead with it.
  139. >A beam of light projects from Anonymous’ forehead, and onto the wall.
  140. >It was like watching a movie.
  141. >A movie about one man’s encounter with an ancient God.
  142.
  143. “How long have we followed this thing?”
  144. >”Too long man, too long.” Mikial said, taking a bite out of his Protein Stick.
  145. >You shake your canteen, hearing that there is still a little water left.
  146. >You grab it, and raise it for a toast.
  147. “To Chris”
  148. >”To Chris” Mikial mimics, raising his own.
  149. “To the bravest bastard any of us has ever known.”
  150. >Only he would think to punch the living incarnation of a deity in the face.
  151. >Too bad he didn’t live to tell the tale.
  152. >But he saved your lives that day.
  153. >And he would not be soon forgotten.
  154. >You drain the rest of the canteen, throwing it in your much lighter pack.
  155. “It looks like it’s still headed back to the temple.”
  156. >M:”Looks like it. Better radio in what we’ve seen.” He grabs his COM set, and radio’s back the day’s events.
  157. >The SCP, or Ghosties, as you liked to call them were setting up a containment protocol for the growing beast.
  158. >Apparently they have dealt with worse, but you find that hard to believe.
  159. >You’ve shot at the thing, you bludgeoned it, hell, when Christopherson went down with a flamethrower on his back, you thought the thing would be down for the count.
  160. >Nothing seemed to phase it at all.
  161. >It kept eating and growing, slowly heading back to where you found it.
  162. >”M:”It should be about another half-days walk back to the temple. We should catch up with the thing. The ghosties have all their stuff set up. It’ll be one hell of a fireworks show.”
  163. “Mhmm” is all you manage to say
  164. >Something does not sit right with you however.
  165. >It is almost as if everything is a dream, but it is most likely your nerves.
  166. >You grab your remaining supplies, and head off with Mikial into the forest.
  167.
  168. Back in the Hospital...
  169. >Princess Celestia gasps at the carnage she has witnessed.
  170. >She knew of the tragedies on Earth from Anon’s memory, but she never expected this.
  171. >He had such a calm and kind demeanour when you met him.
  172. >How could he have done such horrible things?
  173. >She turns off the spell, and sits in the chair next to him.
  174. >What was it about this creature the fascinated her so?
  175. >He tossed and turned in his fitful sleep, throwing the blankets off himself again.
  176. >She picked it up with her magic, and tucked him in again.
  177. >Why did she care for this creature when he had killed so many of his own kind and could be a threat to your subjects?
  178. >Even though he had proven himself, you still did not like the fact that he could be so violent.
  179. >She laid her head down on his chest, and closed her eyes.
  180. >She just could not understand why she cared.
  181. >Or for that matter, why he sacrificed his own well being for the town.
  182. >He turned again, this time moving his arms.
  183. >His hand landing on the back of her neck.
  184. >It almost seemed as if he picked up on her presence.
  185. >And even though he was going through all this, he still tried to comfort her.
  186. >She turned her head to see he was crying in his sleep.
  187. >She doesn’t want to know what he was going through.
  188. >She just hopes he makes it out alright.
  189.
  190. “STAY WITH ME” you yell, as you carry your best friend away from the hellish battlefield.
  191. “WAKE UP ASS HAT” you say, looking backwards at the blasted temple.
  192. >The creature was two stories tall now, and was decimating everything in its path.
  193. >You look down at your bleeding comrade.
  194. >M:”Hey buddy, I think this is it”
  195. “DONT YOU DIE ON ME. YOU STILL OWE ME A DRINK”
  196. >He laughs, coughing up blood.
  197. >The hole in his chest oozes some more.
  198. >You place him down in a somewhat secluded area.
  199. >You pull out your med kit and try to dress his wounds.
  200. >The puncture wound was deep.
  201. >Almost through and through.
  202. >Bits of bone and cartilage were strewn everywhere.
  203. >M:”Say buddy, once you’re out of here, make sure you get some rest and relaxation.”
  204. “You mean when we get out of here.” You say, desperately holding back your tears.
  205. >”Nah man, it’s my time. I’ll see you in hell you smarmy bastard” he reaches up a shaky hand.
  206. >You clasp it with yours as you watch the life fade from his eyes.
  207. >You close his eyelids, and place your jacket over top of him.
  208. >You were the last of your squad.
  209. >Your name is Anonymous.
  210. >And you have a god to kill.
  211.
  212. >You break out into a sprint towards to temple, the Ghosties desperately trying to contain the ever growing beast.
  213. >The voice of your friends echoing in your ears.
  214. >Something Chris once told you, back in the bayou.
  215. >Your munitions weren’t doing anything to the risen dead.
  216. >Try as you might, they wouldn’t stay down.
  217. >”Guys, it’s voodoo right? So, magic must defeat magic!”
  218. >and sure enough the crazy bastard was right.
  219. >and he would be right again today.
  220. >You dodge and weave through he debris and hail of bullets the Ghosties were pouring into the creature.
  221. >You remember seeing something down there when you first examined the temple.
  222. >You found the egg sure, but there was no treasure to be seen.
  223. >What if you missed it?
  224. >You manage to sneak your way through the combat and back into the temple.
  225. >Working your way through the labyrinth of passages, you come across the egg room.
  226. >You run up to the altar where you found the egg.
  227. >You push the altar away.
  228. >Something is irking you about this room.
  229. >Straining against the weight of the altar, you finally manage to push it over the edge.
  230. >Below, is a deep hole.
  231. >You grab your flashlight, and shine it down.
  232. >MY GOD
  233. >It’s full...
  234. >It’s full of EGGS.
  235. >AND THEY ARE MOVING.
  236.
  237. >You take the rickety ladder down the hole.
  238. >You go over to one of the monstrous eggs, and put a few rifle rounds into it.
  239. >It pops with a sickening splat, and a lifeless creature falls to your feet.
  240. >There was no way you had enough time to destroy all of these.
  241. >There has to be something keeping them alive.
  242. >the source of power you never found.
  243. >You search the room some more, careful not to disturb any more eggs.
  244. >You spot the familiar purplish glow of magic over on the other side of the room.
  245. >It can’t be...
  246. >Top Magic theorists only GUESSED that these things existed!
  247. >It was a Wey Stone.
  248. >Sort of like a focusing crystal for magical essence and power.
  249. >Scientists tried to replicate something like this, but to no avail.
  250. >And now, one was staring you in the face.
  251. >You walk over to the second altar, and pull it from it resting place.
  252. >there is a shrill shriek as ALL of the eggs burst at once, sending shards of shell and goo everywhere.
  253. >The creatures inside swarm up the ladder and out of the temple.
  254. >You give chase, only to find that once you get outside, there is not a single Ghostie left alive.
  255. >The smell hits you first.
  256. >Then, a gigantic feathered fist hits you second.
  257. >The gigantic creature picks you up and laughs.
  258. >”You have freed my children human, and for that I am grateful. For this I shall spare your life long enough to watch me devour this world.”
  259. >The smaller creatures chatter away, tearing at the flesh of the fallen Ghosties.
  260. “No.”
  261. >”What did you say, insect?” the behemoth says, bringing you closer to its face.
  262. “I said NO.”
  263. >It gives another raucous laugh. “And what will you do to stop me?”
  264. “Ever wondered what happens when a fount of magical energy is ruptured?” you say, holding your sidearm to the Weystone”
  265. >the creatures pupils shrink to pinpricks.
  266. >”YOU WOULDN’T DARE” it bellows, bringing down its other clawed hand to crush you.
  267. “Ever danced with the devil in the pale moon light?” are your final words as the shot ruptures the stone.
  268. >Darkness over takes you as you feel the *pop* of your emergency teleport tab, and the sickening heat of magical discharge.
  269.
  270. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YlfUcnSbKDA
  271. I set my sail
  272. Fly the wind it will take me
  273. Back to my home...
  274. Sweet home...
  275. >You re-appear by the docks as you watch the rising plume of magical energy.
  276. >The devastation wrought by this rivals no other release of energy ever recorded.
  277. >The sky seems to rend and roil in itself.
  278. Lie on my back
  279. clouds are making way for me
  280. I'm coming home, sweet home
  281. >You stare into the cosmic infinity revealed by the blast.
  282. >A familiar star appears in the black of space.
  283. >The same star you’ve seen a billion times before.
  284. >Or at least it felt that way.
  285. I see your star you left it burning for me
  286. Mother, I'm here
  287. >Your body shoots upright in pain, as the shock begins to fade.
  288. >The torrent of energy released by the ruptured stone continues to rise into the air.
  289. >Your star still burns bright regardless
  290. >Like an anchor of a ship in the rocky sea of life.
  291. Eyes open wide
  292. feel your heart and it's glowing
  293. I'm welcome home, sweet home
  294. >Your vision begins to fade, revealing images of a foreign place.
  295. >And a soft foreign face.
  296. >One awash with love and concern.
  297. I take your hand
  298. now you'll never be lonely
  299. not when I'm home, sweet home
  300. >You try and focus on the memory, your environment fighting to keep you here.
  301. >Memories flood back.
  302. >Of a peaceful land, untouched by human hands.
  303. >Save for yours.
  304. >Images of a tower.
  305. >Images of a purple horse.
  306. >Images of a cataclysmic explosion, all devouring.
  307. >You hear a soft voice in your ears, calling to you.
  308. >You focus on your anchor.
  309. I see your star, you left it burning for me
  310. Mother, I'm here
  311.
  312.
  313. >Celestia recoils in horror as she watches the devastation unfold through your eyes.
  314. >For some reason, he were spared from the explosion; the safety teletab he placed over the Weystone transported him far enough away to escape the blast.
  315. >A purple torrent of energy washed over the land, turning the sky a bloody red.
  316. >She watched as his broken and battered form rolled across the ground, being tossed by the ensuing shockwave.
  317. >She also saw the helicopters coming in to retrieve him and whatever was left of the temple.
  318. >the whole time he held a hand up to the sky, as if reaching for something.
  319. >to their dismay, all they found was a massive crater 50 miles wide, and 50 deep.
  320. >You turn off the spell, as Anonymous stirs once again in his sleep.
  321. >Just before closing the link, you see the story begin playing again from the start.
  322. >You’ve been visiting him every day, along with Twilight.
  323. >It has been almost a month now, and he still won’t wake up.
  324. >After watching him go through all this, you finally understand why he had such a reaction to the event back in p0nyville.
  325. >And you were the one who sent him on this quest.
  326. >It should have been you out there.
  327. >It should be you taking care of these Ghosts from the past.
  328. >Not him.
  329. >Not after what he’s been through.
  330. >For a mortal, he has seen his more than fair share of violence.
  331. >You feel the twinge of guilt tug at your soul.
  332. >How could you be so stupid again?
  333. >You ignore your Sister all those years ago, and you still haven’t learned a thing.
  334. >It’s hard trying to keep everything in check.
  335. >It’s hard, and no one understands.
  336. >You lay your head down on him again, a familiar position you’ve done, as it seems to relax him a bit.
  337. >He shifts, putting his hand on your neck again, much like he first did weeks ago.
  338. >And for the first time in years, you cry.
  339. >He was the first p0n-
  340. >Person to show you true kindness in a long time.
  341. >True, Luna had forgiven you for what happened, but there was a difference between him and her.
  342. >From her, it’s a love for family.
  343. >From him, it’s not respect for your position, or your authority.
  344. >From him, you feel like he genuinely cares about you.
  345. “Hey, hey, now. What’s the matter?” you hear a gravelly voice say.
  346. >You look towards the door, and there is no one there.
  347. >You turn your head to find him awake, and brushing your mane.
  348. >You lift your head and throw your arms over him, embracing him in a hug.
  349. >He seems a bit shocked at first, but then hugs you back.
  350. >”Welcome home” is all you manage to say, holding back another torrent of tears.
  351. >For the first time in almost a month, tonight was a good night.
