  3. She knew the words were futile as they left her lips. The shadowed and stoic figure had been drawing nearer since his breath had begun growing short. She knew his time was close, but she didn't want to admit it to herself. She couldn't admit it to herself. Raspy breath had began coming from the mass of blankets and sheets.

  5.         "Not long now."

  7. The low, gravelly voice pulled her from her stupor as she began moving backwards to her child. She stuck her arms up in a pointless attempt to protect the one thing she cared for. She knew there was no reason. But she had to try.

  9.         "Please, take me instead. Just let him go, what point in there in taking a child?"

  11.         The figure simply dropped his gaze and pushed past the woman to the side of the childs bed. As it pushed her to the side a severe chill ran through her, knocking her to the ground. She knew it was over, and she couldn't watch what this monster was about to do to her baby. The mother stared ahead blankly as she listened to the boys breath slow, the stop all together. He was gone, her gaze dropped to the floor as tears began to stream down her cheeks.

  15.         The chilled, rancid breath against her head and the smug voice next to her ear pulled her attention from the carpet.
