This is a very simple guide that mostly outlines the steps instead of going into detail about the metaphysics, and indeed terms for said steps.
1) Relax, get comfortable.
When I first started, I acted like I was going to Sleep Project. I got comfortable, and relaxed as much as I could. If you have techniques you use to relax, do them now.
2)Clear your mind.
Just let your mind think out all it's thoughts, but not bring up new ones.
A technique I use is focusing on my breathing. In...out...in...out...
This usually clears my mind of all but it, and then I can dismiss it fairly easily.
3) Picture your inner sanctum.
This can be anything, just a place that represents you.
For me, I use a cave with an ornate door on one end, and a computer at the other. The computer represents my consciousness, and the door represents the Astral.
4) Picture yourself in your sanctum.
I usually imagine myself in third person for a moment or two, then I get into first person, and really feel myself, my feet on the ground, my eyes seeing it all, and so on.
5) Project.
Open the astral door, closing your eyes, and at the same time willing yourself to your location, in the body you want, as hard as you can.
You should then be where you want.
