  1. >You wish you had been knocked out
  2. >You wish you didn't have to deal with this burning pain in your skull
  3. >You wish you didn't have to experience this failure
  4. >Your friends were always there for you
  5. >When it came time for you to stand up for them, you fell phenomenally short
  6. >By Celestia, you fought harder a few minutes ago than you ever had in your life
  7. >But that last punch?
  8. >That was good
  9. >That was really good
  10. >You didn't see it coming, and it got you right in the nose
  11. >Your head throbbed, you were afraid something was broken
  12. >Maybe not, but your brain sloshed around in your brain case enough that you occasionally black out
  13. >It feels like controlled bursts of lightning lance through your head
  14. >Because of this, you cannot shake the cringe on your features
  15. >Blood runs down your head
  16. >And into your right eye
  17. >You have to hold your eye shut, turning you into a cyclops
  18. >The occasional moan escapes your lips, too
  19. >You hate sounding so helpless, but it's hard to keep them at bay
  20. >You hiss with every spike of pain
  21. >And your whole body trembles
  22. >So, was this it? Was this the best you could do?
  23. >Being helpless while your friends suffered?
  24. >That, more than anything, killed you
  25. >All this physical pain was nothing
  26. >But you felt woozy, your heart dropped into the acid of your stomach
  27. >But you weren't alone
  28. >You should have been, but you weren't
  29. >Spike stood next to you
  30. >You two were surrounded, sadly
  31. >There was really no hope of escape unless you wanted to get skewered by dozens of those heavy bolts
  32. >So many weapons leveled on you
  33. >They were careful not to get close to you
  34. >You figure they knew better after what happened a short while before
  35. >You were brought to a complex on the ranch, where you stood before a nefarious looking machine
  36. >It was elevated by a single step
  37. >Large consoles strung together in a chaotic mess by huge hoses and cables
  38. >In front of it all was a large circular pad
  39. >And in the center of the consoles was a large circular object draped in cloth
  40. >You would wonder what the nature of that device is
  41. >But at the moment, you are a little more concerned with your immediate situation
  42.
  43. I'm sorry, Spike.
  44. >Your voice is a low groan
  45. >All you can manage
  46. >“It's okay.”
  47. >He was a brave little drake
  48. >You knew that his heart was pounding, probably worse than yours
  49. I wanted to help you.
  50. >You started
  51. >“It's fine...”
  52. >You wonder what his pain must be like
  53. >You were alone
  54. >So, really, you're not losing a whole lot
  55. >You wish you could have seen your friends again
  56. >But Spike had Rarity
  57. >You saw how they looked at one another
  58. >How they behaved around one another
  59. >It wasn't as far along as Lyra and BonBon, granted. But it was adorable
  60. >They were of different species, but they surmounted that barrier and loved one another
  61. >You wished that you could have saved that
  62. >You and Spike never really talked, you didn't know one another particularly well
  63. >But you felt, you know, that it was worth saving
  64. >All your friends were
  65. >They didn't ask for, nor deserve, any of this
  66. >And the thought that this 'Dog Father' had the nerve to just come and wreck it all
  67. >You would be lying to yourself if you didn't let your blood pressure rise
  68. >Alas, as your blood pressure went up, so did the pain
  69. >You squinted your one good eye
  70. Yeeeeth!
  71. >Your teeth grind
  72. >Spike raised a brow and looked up at you
  73. >He might have asked if you were okay, but he knew better
  74. >“Hey, at least we got word to Celestia.”
  75. >You nodded, silently
  76. >“So whatever these guys are planning, they won't get away with it!”
  77. Yeah...
  78. >But that doesn't help you, or Spike
  79. >Or Twilight, Rarity, Fluttershy, Pinkie Pie, or Dash
  80. >Spike watches as your sight drifts to the ground, a steep frown evolving across your features
  81. >Despite his momentary facade, he does the same
  82. >You two were connected in more ways than you or he knew
  83.
  84. >“Hello! Kiddies!”
  85. >A figure emerges before you, standing before the machine
  86. >He was careful to choose his spacing
  87. >Your first instinct was to charge him, to murder him
  88. >But you can't make that run before you take a bolt to the chest
  89. >He was flanked by a large, brutish bulldog, and a psychotic gangly little number
  90. >This was The Boss
  91. >“I must say! You surprise me, Anonymous.”
  92. >“You are quite the... mother fucker, you know?”
  93. >“I mean, coming back from the dead. How do you do that? Must be...”
  94. >He pauses and cracks a smile
  95. >“Really NIFTY”
  96. >You and Spike remain silent, watching and listening
  97. >He wasn't so fun to listen to, any more
  98. >He didn't even care to tie you two up
  99. >He was content that neither of you would try anything with so many of those mechanical bows leveled on you
  100. >He was right
  101. >“So, fellas, how did it work out for ya?”
  102. >He pulled his cigar from his lips and tapped off a mount of ash with his finger
  103. Celestia knows.
  104. >You say
  105. >“Yeah! You're going to be in so much trouble!”
  106. >You had to appreciate Spike's enthusiasm
  107. >Maybe it was bravado, maybe it was youthful arrogance
  108. >But the hope he produced, however microscopic, was infectious
  109. >The Boss' shoulders bounced as he stifled a silent laugh
  110. >“This crap, again? Listen, pally-boy, your little Princess? She can't do shit to stop us, now.”
  111. You will burn.
  112. >You say, catching Spike's contagion
  113. >“Hm! We'll see. But not before I turn dragon-boy here into hamboigah.”
  114. >The Boss lifted a finger and snapped it
  115. >“Sandy?”
  116. >“Yes, Boss.”
  117. >The large one knuckled over, the ground shaking with his approach
  118. >Spike stepped back, sweating
  119. >You shift your footing and place yourself in front of Spike, throwing up your dukes
  120. >A defiant, low-tone growl accompanies your act
  121. >The Boss chortles
  122. >Before you even know it, Sandy lashes out with a single arm and bats you to the side, and you go spiraling to the ground
  123. >“A..Anon?!”
  124. >Sandy makes his way to Spike and, with a single massive hand, grips the small dragon's entire frame and lifts him off the ground
  125. >By the time you struggle back to your feet, he has already moved back to the Boss' side, hoisting your little buddy off the ground
  126. >Body completely encased in a gray fist, only the head pokes out from the top and the tail dangles from the bottom
  127. >“I'm okay, Anon!”
  128. Let him go...
  129. >You stagger in place
  130. >Something's wrong with your head
  131. >You've taken worse than this, and not been this messed up
  132. >“Ah, no.”
  133. >“Don't worry. He ain't gonna die yet. You go first.”
  134. >“See, Anonymous; the Dog Father? He holds all the cards. The Elements of Harmony? Broken, shattered, useless.”
  135. >“Your little fairy princess? Hah! Don't make me laugh.”
  136. >“But the Dog Father... he's a nice guy. A real saint, ya see”
  137. >You squint your one good eye
  138. >“He's giving ya a second chance. Think about it this time, champ. I'd hate to have to...”
  139. >“Ah...”
  140. >“Kill ya again. Capiche?”
  141. >You are silent for a moment
  142. >“Think about it, buddy-ol-pal”
  143. >“That bitch? That Celestia? Every problem you can remember facing? It's because of her.”
  144. >You curl your lip
  145. >“Yer' a smart kid. Little dense, but who knows? Maybe you're actually a GENIOUS!”
  146. >“An all-star athlete?”
  147. >“I'm sure ya got dreams, kid. We all have dreams. Dreams that don't have a chance in hell of bein' realized because Misses Mind Wrecker saw them and decided that ya weren't worthy of em'.”
  148. >“What use are dreams to a good little automoton? That's what you are, right? Without that spark of memory and experience, you're just a freakin' robot.”
  149. >You didn't respond
  150. >His smile faded
  151. >He was losing patience
  152. >“The Dog Father sympathizes. The Dog Father was also a victim of Celestia. The Dog Father will be really good to ya.”
  153. >“Don't be stupid, kid. This is a once in a lifetime offer, and you're getting it twice.”
  154. >After all you've been through
  155. >After everything that you've done here in Equestria
  156. >You only have one dream
  157. I dream of friends and family.
  158. The ones you took from me.
  159. Go to hell.
  160. >The Boss is unfazed
  161. >He chomps back down on his cigar
  162. >“See, I knew you'd say that.”
  163. >“Yer' a real retard.”
  164. >You get that a lot
  165. >He raises his fingers, coiled against one another
  166. >All the mechanical bows around you are shouldered, and cocked
  167. >You're going to be turned into a pin cushion
  168. >“Survive this, ass howl.”
  169. >You close your eyes and await your execution
