Day 4
Lonely Heart, coming from the tent city, was back in the work line, cueing up for whatever work Mayor(?) Nova had assigned priority to. For now it seemed as though only a few of the ambitious ponies were working out what projects needed to be done, with a soft-line dictatorship directing the free hands. And for anyone who wanted to eat from the food stores given by The Sisters, work was the only ticket to it. Lonely had taken up skipping lunch, two meals cost less than three, and the hunger kept his mind busy. He knew he should probably limit himself to either bucking down trees or plowing the fields, jobs that could be done without thinking much. Anything more mentally intensive would have proven him a liability.
The current job order was exploring the tunnels under the town. Some were suppose to map it, others were going to take some of the lumber and brace it along the way. He had built many stage sets, so installing buttresses wouldn't be too difficult, although there weren't any nails yet, so things had to be lashed together with the new rope that was being made by another harvesting team. As soon as the farmlands became more substantial it was said that mining was going to be a priority. It seemed difficulty not to believe that 4 Cannon was going to be a technological hub, once basic survival had been taken care of. Many of the new ponies were engineers and software majors, so even without internet there was a large knowledge base to catch up to the modern world that they had come from.
That would be fine for the society as a whole, but unless that technology was one day able to send them back home, Lonely Heart didn't much care. It was hard to care about anything these days. Hopefully he work wouldn't suffer for it.
For now, there were trees to buck down.
