Skyward Episode 8: Descent

Previously on Skyward

 

"Bring her about," Norman commands.

Amy holds a hand up when they finally reach the edge of town. "Something's not right here..."

The crew of the Saint's Bro hides in an alleyway as Sophie and Axel talk.

"Intriguing argument, lawyer. Let's go, if they aren't here. They must be hiding out somewhere nearby."

"Sophie Sophisticata, one of the top presiding lawyers in the United Kingdom." A freeze frame of Sophie appears behind Amy as she continues talking. "Axel Jones, one of the UK's hot-blooded officers." Another freeze frame shows up, displaying Axel. "If they're here that can only mean one thing. They're looking for us."

Nolan's green eyes seem brighter as they flicker with amusement. "Kahahahaha! Let them come at me. I will never let myself get caught." He tightens his fist. "Never!"

Ｊｕｄｇｅｍｅｎｔ

 

"Axel Jones! Wait!"

Axel stops in the middle of the pathway and glances behind him.

Sophie is just now catching up to him, looking uncomfortable and uncharacteristically blushing.

[FLASHBACK OF AXEL'S SMILE]

She shakes her head.

Voice over: Damn him.

"What's the matter, lawyer? The law waits for no one."

[glasses adjust]

She only glares at him and stomps past him. "Law this, law that. Don't you EVER think about anything else?"

He scratches his chin as he picks up his pace to match hers. "Hm, sure I do. Food and sleep. Those are essential so I can survive to uphold the law."

She goes slack-jawed at this and just sighs. "I see." She points at a man with a cart full of hay coming towards them. "Let's talk with this man and ask him if he's seen them."

She waves her hand, flagging the man down. "Excuse me! Sir! May I have a moment of your time?!"

The man slows his cart down and comes to a stop in front of Sophie. He lowers his hat and asks, "Well sure thing, ma'am. Now what can I do for y'all?"

 

Ｎｏｒｍａｎｄｉｅ

 

Norman paces around on the bridge, his hand stroking his chin thoughtfully. He sighs and flops down on his chair, "Look, I know we came here to pay our respects but, I just can't. I refuse to believe Rarity is gone."

Applejack, Twilight, and Pinkie Pie exchange uncomfortable looks. Twilight steps forward and places a comforting hand on Norman's shoulder. "Look, Norman, we miss Rarity too but we all saw what happened. Rarity...she's go-"

 Norman slaps Twilight's hand away, "Shut up. We can't say that for sure. Did you SEE a body?"

Applejack bites her lips in frustration, "Well no but she was blasted. Ah don't think anyone could have survived that."

 The cockpit door slides open and Brad walks in, a bottle of water in hand. He uncaps it and takes a sip.

He wipes his mouth and casually walks over to where Norman is and grabs him by the back of his coat. One yank is all that is needed to dislodge Norman from his seat.

"Hey wait what are you?!" Brad drags him out of the room, still holding the water bottle.

Silence fills the cockpit until Pinkie breaks it. "Ooooh, that looks like fun!" She grabs Twilight and Applejack in the same manner as Brad had and follows after him.

 

Ｏｕｔｓｉｄｅ　ｔｈｅ　Ｎｏｒｍａｎｄｉｅ

 

Brad unceremoniously drops Norman on his ass outside the ship.

Norman winces on impact.

Brad squats down in front of Norman, bottle still in hand. "Oy oy, you really need to get a grip on yourself man. You need to face the music instead of trying to run from it."

Norman just stares at his friend like he's grown an extra head, "Since when did you get so psychological?" He stands up, dusts himself off.

 Brad just grins. "I didn't. I'd much rather be off in some dingy bar, looking for a nice ass to warm my bed. But you looking like some beat down puppy just doesn't sit right with me." He takes a swig from his bottle of water. "Now, what say you we go visit your friend Rarity?"

"What about DJ?"

Brad shuts up and turns away. "S-she's sleeping. And I'm sure she wouldn't mind. I left her a note."

 

[GILLIGAN CUT]

DJ stares at the note and just raises an eyebrow.

It reads:

> We're going to go visit Rarara. I'll bring back a sandwich or something.

"...k."

She sets it aside, pulls the covers over her head and goes back to sleep.

[END GILLIGAN CUT]

 

"She'll be fine."

Pinkie appears, dragging two bewildered girls behind her. "Awww did I miss the fun?" She lets go of Twilight and Applejack and looks downcast. "Bummer."

 

Ｊｕｄｇｅｍｅｎｔ

 

"Oh yes, I took those kids outside the town outskirts yesterday. Pretty nice kids if you ask me." The man chuckles. "I'm not sure why they would want to visit those ruins. There's nothin' there."

"So tell me citizen," Axel climbs up the cart and leans in close to the man's face. "Are you saying you helped criminals escape the law?"

"Criminals? I was no-" Axel shoves his crude drawing in the man's face.

"THESE PEOPLE ARE SKY PIRATES WANTED BY INTERNATIONAL POLICE. THEY'RE CRIMINALS THAT NEED A HOT SERVING OF JUSTICE WITH A SIDE OF CAPITAL PUNISHMENT!" His brows furrow and he presses his forehead against the stunned man. "SO I'LL ASK AGAIN CITIZEN. DID YOU-"

 

WHAM

 

Axel keels over, a small bump growing on his head. He winces and rubs it, turning to glare at Sophie. "Lawyer, why are you interfering with my interrogation?!"

Sophie sighs and lowers her fist. She straightens her blazer and coughs. "I apologize for his behavior sir. My colleague here...Doesn't. Understand. Tact." She takes the picture from Axel and shows it to the man again. "These three 'kids', as you refer to them, are on the run and we're trying to track them down."

The man looks intimidated. "O-oh. They seemed nice though. That one" he points to one of the figure that seems to resemble Soren. "Paid me for the ride even though I told him he didn't have to." He smiles.

 "You said you took them to some ruins?" Sophie hands the paper back to Axel, who is leaning against the cart, seething.

 "Aye. About a mile away from here, just over that hill there. Would you like to go?"

Sophie's face brightens up. "Yes! That would be lovely!" The man points to the back of his cart and she gratefully obliges. She peeks over the edge and calls out to Axel. "Coming?"

 

Ｓａｉｎｔ＇ｓ　Ｂｒｏ

 

Soren lowers his spyglass, clicking his tongue. "That far already? Jeeze." He leans down and picks up his bag from the rooftop where he is standing. He calls down, "They're heading for the ruins. Just our luck for them to run into that nice guy."

He jumps down and hands the spyglass to Nolan, who takes it and stows it away in his own bag.

Nolan sets his hands on his waist, "Well, what do you think we should do then? Our ship is right over there but we..." he looks over at Amy, who just shakes her head. "can't leave yet."

"Our fight with the Ｎｏｒｍａｎｄｉｅ strained our engine too much. Might be a few days before she can fly again." She looks down at her notes and twirls a wrench in frustration. "If those two weren't here, I'd get it done much sooner. But now the entire town knows who we are. So getting any parts will be annoying."

 "Goddamn it." Nolan kicks the side of the building. Planting a booted foot on top of an old wooden box, he addresses his crew. "Then we'll have to resort to that."

Soren looks appalled. "'That'? Surely you don't mean..." the look on Nolan's face says it all. "Oh fuck me. You're serious. You're fucking serious."

Amy looks crestfallen, "But Nolie, you swore that we'd never resort to actual piracy."

"Does it look like we have a choice, Amy?"

She crosses her arms. "We do. We could use disguises."

"Seriously?"

A shadowed figure sits alone in a room, presumably a cockpit.

Zoom in for a close up of his eyes.

A deep voice rumbles "Soon."

Bonus Scene

 

Chibi DJ is sleeping.

 

Chibi DJ: Zzzzzzz

Chibi Brad and Norman walk into the room.

She wakes up and they panic and retreat.

Chibi DJ: ...

Chibi DJ: Zzzzzz

Chibi Twilight, Applejack and Pinkie Pie walk into the room now. They hold a plate of cookies.

Chibi DJ: *sniff sniff sniff*

She opens her eyes and they're glowing.

The girls except for Pinkie scream and run.

Chibi Pinkie walks up to DJ and pets her.

Chibi Pinkie: There there, eat up.

DJ eats cookies and goes back to sleep.

Chibi Pinkie smiles wide and notices something.

She turns to the camera and waves. "See you all next time!"
