- >One bullet.
- >That's all it takes.
- >You've been in Equestria for over a month now, and you've never felt more miserable in your life.
- >Slowly it dawned on you that everything you've known and loved is now gone.
- >No more strolls along the Irish coast line.
- >No more off-duty pints in your favourite pub after work.
- >You've tried to readjust to your new life, but you can't lose the feeling that something is missing from it.
- >Or someone.
- >You sit on the edge of your makeshift bed; regular pony beds aren't large enough for you.
- >Lost in your own thoughts, you examine your service pistol as you weigh it in your hand.
- >One of the only reminders you had from back home.
- >Not sure what use it is here, with everyone being so nice.
- >You're obselete. As a police officer, no one needs you in Ponyville.
- >There's just one anomaly in this utopia of friendship and happyness, and that is you.
- >And you'll make sure to eradicate that anomaly.
- >However, it's time to take one last stroll outside, breathe the air for one last time before it's over.
- >You step outside into a cloudy fall afternoon.
- >Mindlessly, you start walking.
- >The emptiness you feel in your chest has been a companion for the 30 odd days you've been here, and it is a companion now as well.
- >If only you could've opened up to someone. Had a talk.
- >But while everyone here is so friendly, their smiles seem to have permanently etched themselves into their faces, and they seem to be too naive to understand your problems.
- >But it's too late for a talk now. You're no longer able to live like this.
- >As you turn into the Ponyville park, you notice that not many ponies are around.
- >Perfect. The last thing you want to do is have to talk to people... or ponies.
- >You spot a bench and decide to take a seat on it.
- >Looking up into the sky, you only see a few scattered pegasi, moving around clouds.
- >Never figured out how that worked.
- >You weren't exactly big on physics, but you're pretty sure that droplets of condensed water weren't supposed to for a solid object.
- >That's when you spot a pegasus with the most amazing mane in the sky.
- >Brightly coloured in the colours of the rainbow, she zooms past the clouds, doing loops and barrel rolls.
- >You find yourself observing her for a while, hoping she doesn't notice your staring.
- >But apparently, she did.
- >She flies towards you at a breakneck pace, only to abruptly come to a halt right in front of the bench.
- >The pegasus laughs at your reaction, which was to jump over the bench and duck behind it for cover.
- >"Oh man you should've seen the look on your face!" she cries.
- >Voice crackles.
- >Cute.
- "Funny." you reply in a sarcastic manner.
- >Not that you cared for your physical integrity anymore.
- >"Hey, I've seen your face around here before. What's your name again?" she asks
- "Just call me Officer Irish." you answer.
- >"Okay, then, 'Officer Irish'. I'm Rainbow Dash, fastest flier in all of Equestria! Pleased to meet you." she boasts.
- >Oh, a braggy one. Somehow, this just made her cuter.
- >You just can't get over the fact of how cute these horses are.
- >"So I saw you were admiring my sick moves." she says.
- "You could say that."
- >For some reason, you feel the nagging emptiness inside you slowly fade.
- >Somehow, this horse was different from the others.
- "So what is it that you do here?" you ask Rainbow.
- >Smalltalk. Smooth, tiger.
- >"Oh you know, kicking clouds, being awesome. The usual thing." she replies.
- >"The better question is, what is it that YOU do here? No one has seen you around a lot for a week." she continues.
- "Oh you know, being miserable." you tell her.
- >Wait, why did you just tell a talking flying horse about your feelings? You don't like where this is going.
- >"Gee, you must be a lot of fun to hang around with, sporting that attitude." she mocks you.
- "Uh-huh" you say.
- >Rainbow Dash nervously strokes her mane with one of her hooves.
- >"Hey, uh, wanna hang out some time? You know, autumn is kinda boring. What about tonight?"
- >Tonight?
- >But you were planning to blow your brains out tonight!
- "Sorry, I'm busy tonight."
- >"I don't believe that one bit, Mr. Officer." she says, rubbing her chin with her hoof and giving you a suspicious look.
- >Oh screw it.
- "Fine, tonight. Whatever." you concede.
- >"Awesome!" Dash exclaims.
- >"We can grab dinner together. See you then!" she says, gives you a smile and flies off.
- >As you wander back to your apartment, it only just dawns on you that you've been invited to dinner by someone after a bit of smalltalk.
- >Odd.
- >Why would she do that?
- >At least, this would give you something to think about while you sit in on your bed, waiting for the evening to come.
- >The dim fall afternoon light slowly fades, and a purple dusk takes its place.
- >You get yourself ready, despite not exactly knowing how Rainbow Dash plans to meet you.
- >Does she know where you live?
- >Just as you were pondering that issue, you hear a knock on your door.
- >You answer the door, and outside waits Rainbow Dash.
- "Oh, there you are. I was wondering how we'd even find each other tonight." you say.
- >"Yeah, I realized I maybe should've told you a place and time, but I figured I could just come by." he explains.
- "How did you know where I live?" you ask, with an inquisitve look on your face.
- >Rainbow Dash blushes.
- >"Oh you know, I just know that kind of stuff." she says, her gaze locked onto the floor in front of her.
- >You decide to help her out of this situation by switching topics.
- "Sure, whatever. So what's the plan for tonight?"
- >Rainbow Dash perks up.
- >"Oh, I thought maybe we could grab some sammiches and then go watch a movie at the cinema or something."
- "Sounds good."
- >And so you step outside, close the door behind you and walk off with Rainbow Dash hovering next to you.
- >As you walk alongside Dash through town, both of you munching on a sandwich, the thoughts of the late afternoon shoot through your head again.
- "Hey Dash." you begin.
- >"Hmmm?" she says, her mouth full.
- "How were you so quick in inviting me to do something after that bit of smalltalk?"
- >Dash almost chokes on her bite, so you give her some time to swallow properly.
- >Way to be blunt.
- >Blushing intensifies.
- >"I don't know, you looked like you could've used it." she answers.
- >You're content with that answer for now.
- >After all, you don't want to question the good times you're currently having.
- >You arrive at the cinema, where Dash suggests you could watch the newest Daring Do film adaption.
- >Not really being familiar with pony movies, you're okay with that.
- >It wasn't half bad. Obviously it's a brainless movie adaption of a brainless book, but some simple entertainment is just what you needed.
- >You step outside with Dash behind you into the cold night air.
- "Thanks for the night, Dash" you say to Rainbow Dash.
- >"Heh, thanks to you, nice to have someone around who I can goof around with when all my other friends are busy studying the magic of friendship and whatnot." she admits.
- >"Hey, it's not too late yet. We could go for a walk around park, don't you think?" she suggests.
- >You agree.
- >Both of you are now walking through the park at a slow pace.
- >The moon, despite not being full, gives off enough light to see Dash's facial expression in the darkness.
- >She looks like she's aching to ask a question, but is hesitating.
- "You look like you've got something on your mind." you mention.
- >Dash looks at her hooves for a moment, then up to you.
- >"I was just curious what it is that drags you down like that." she says.
- >You sigh, and close your eyes for a moment.
- "I haven't been feeling so well lately. Integrating is hard." you confess.
- >Rainbow Dash looks up to you, worried expression plastered across her face.
- >You might as well tell her the whole thing.
- "To be honest, I didn't plan on... being here tomorrow anymore."
- >"You wanted to move away?" she inquires.
- "No, not like that."
- >Her face is in shock as she realizes what you meant.
- >Her eyes start filling with tears.
- "Rainbow, I-"
- >"No Irish, just give me a minute" she cuts you off.
- >She turns around and walks away a few paces, signaling you not to follow her.
- >You fucked up now.
- >You stand there, like a dork, in the middle of the park, not quite sure what to do.
- >After five minutes that seemed more like half an hour to you, she turns back around and approaches you again.
- >Her eyes still wet with tears.
- >"How could you be so stupid?" she accuses you.
- "Dash, I really am-"
- >She cuts you off by standing on her hindlegs, and pulling you in for a hug.
- >It's the best hug you've ever had.
