  1. Imagine, if you would be so kind.
  2. Let your mind wander, and see what it might find.
  3. To brilliant vista's of far off seas,
  4. Of giant, rock baring coconut trees.
  5. Where the creatures speak backwards just for fun,
  6. And the birds don’t fly, but would rather run.
  7.
  8. Come with me, if you would,
  9. To a place that will no longer be, but should.
  10. Memories of a far off land, buildings of a massive height,
  11. Peering off, staring at the burning grey jungle is quite a fright.
  12. Then why does it seem to me that this place is home,
  13. Where from do, the two legged creatures roam?
  14.
  15. >”Anonymous? Are you in here?”
  16. >You quickly close the velvet bound book you were writing in, turning around in your chair.
  17. “Yes Twilight, just doing a bit of reading.” you lie.
  18. >”Alright, don’t forget about our meeting with the Princess in an hour.”
  19. “Of course, just finishing up this chapter.”
  20. >Twilight nods, leaving you in your guest chamber at the castle.
  21. >She shuts the door, the light from the magic torches leaving your room.
  22. >The only light now, is the small flickering candle in your room, and the setting sun on the horizon.
  23. >Shutting the magic lock with a press of your finger, a tiny metal latch clicking into place.
  24. >You never told her about the dreams, and expressing them through poetry.
  25. >One of the few things that helped you cope with the dreams of strange places.
  26. >And the all consuming fires that came within them.
  27. >Shaking your head, you pocket your tiny journal and return the quill to its holder.
  28. >The view from the guestroom in Canterlot is wonderful.
  29. >White rooftops and golden trims line the landscape, giving it a familiar homely glow.
  30. >That’s of course because you spent many years here.
  31. >Many of the days during the summers, you would hop from roof to roof, lazing about after getting some exercise.
  32. >The warm sun would heat those tiles in such a way, that it would soothe all the aches and pains right out of your muscles.
  33. >In such a busy city, it provided a bit of solace from the hustle and bustle.
  34. >Staring at the setting sun, your thoughts return to the Princess.
  35. >She was kind enough to let you stay at the castle after your arrival all those years ago.
  36. >How many was it now?
  37. >You can't even recall.
  38.
  39. >You lean on the railing, the warm metal presses against your hands, as your lungs take in the rapidly cooling evening air.
  40. >Canterlot summer's were often warm and dry during the day, but decently cool during the night.
  41. >Almost perfect.
  42. >Looking up into the sky, you can see the stars slowly beginning to dot the expanse.
  43. >The moon would soon begin it's ascent for the evening, as the sun was bidding adieu.
  44. >Luna's hard work was becoming apparent once again.
  45. >Ever since she came back, the skies were always more brilliant, less obscured.
  46. >Of course Celestia could do a good job, but nothing compared to the efforts of the Night Princess.
  47. >You could see the sun slowly sinking below the horizon, giving it's last life giving rays away before retiring for the night.
  48. >The moon to take it's place, a reflection of the Sun's luminescence, but still with it's own importance and unique charm.
  49. >Gingerly sipping the glass of wine you had, you walk back into the guest room.
  50. >It was one of the Diplomat guest suites.
  51. >A bit higher class than normal rooms, but then again, you WERE an ambassador of sorts.
  52. >The only one of your kind, but one none the less.
  53. >Setting the wineglass down on the table again, you snuff out the lone candle.
  54.
  55. >Heading into the washroom, you strip down, getting into the shower.
  56. >The warm water falling over your distinctly unique form.
  57. >”The only one in all Equestria”
  58. >That's what they said when you first arrived.
  59. >Those first few days were pretty much a blur.
  60. >There were only three things you could really remember about that time.
  61. >A cold damp place underground.
  62. >The Princess' kind smile, as she welcomed you to Equestria.
  63. >And a searing heat coupled with intense feelings of despair and panic.
  64. >You still get the nightmares about the last one.
  65. >Hence the journal.
  66. >It was in your hopes that perhaps one day, you'd be able to piece together everything about it.
  67. >Pieces to a much larger puzzle.
  68. >Shame you can't remember pretty much anything before your arrival here.
  69. >Most times you try not to think of it, as it still makes you feel uneasy.
  70. >As if there's something telling you NOT to remember.
  71. >And yet, at the same time, there's that ever jabbing feeling that you are missing something important.
  72. >You start scrubbing yourself down, trying to clear your mind, and think of happier thoughts.
  73.
  74. >Immediately, your mind turns to all your friends in Ponyville.
  75. >Ever since moving there with Twilight three years ago, you've had many an adventure.
  76. >You've grown close to many of the ponies there, despite your strange appearance.
  77. >The locals hearing of your arrival years ago, you had gained somewhat of a minor celebrity status.
  78. >Adapting was not too hard, but you still get strange looks every once and a while.
  79. >Working on your short black hair, your thoughts turn to a certain pony who holds something special to you.
  80. >Who that is, you would never say in case there's someone listening.
  81. >You were paranoid a bit like that.
  82. >Hell, you were paranoid about a lot of things.
  83. >But, your paranoia has helped you in the past before.
  84. >Kinda just like Pinkie's Pinkie sense, you get a strange feeling in your gut when something bad is about to happen.
  85.
  86. >And whenever you think about those dreams.
  87. >The twisted grey beams.
  88. >The horrible ashen sky.
  89. >And the ever present terrible scent.
  90. >You would wander this alien world, ever searching for something.
  91. >But you would NEVER find it.
  92. >Only ONCE you had come close.
  93. >Only to awaken, having sleep walked all the way to the middle of Ponyville.
  94. >Scrubbing off the rest of the soap, you think on that special somepony again.
  95. >They were rather important to you, but...
  96. >You'd have such a hard time putting your feelings into comprehensible words and not just a random jumble of syllables.
  97. >Perhaps one day.
  98. >But, not today.
  99. >Today you had a meeting with the Princess about your time in Ponyville, and the upcoming Harvest Season.
  100. >Projections and crop yields were looking good.
  101. >You helped Twilight work on research back in Ponyville, and occasionally helping Mayor Mare with administrative tasks.
  102. >Everything was fine and dandy.
  103. >Really, this meeting was an excuse for the Princess to have you and Twilight over for dinner.
  104. >You all got along pretty well.
  105. >”Anonymous!”
  106. >OH SHIT.
  107.
  108. >You slam the shower off, jumping out.
  109. >Grabbing your towel off the rack, you wrap it around yourself and open the door.
  110. “Twilight, what's wrong?” you say, still dripping wet
  111. >She turns her head at your half naked form.
  112. >”We're going to be late!”
  113. >You look over at the clock.
  114. >Sure enough, you were supposed to be down for dinner in five minutes.
  115. “ARGH, Sorry. I lost track of time” you say, grabbing another towel, drying off.
  116. >”Just hurry up.” Twilight says with a sigh.
  117. “Alright! Alright!”
  118. >One you are decently dry, you grab your dress clothes from the dresser.
  119. >You look over at Twilight.
  120. >”What?”
  121. “Turn around!”
  122. >”Really Anon?”
  123. >You just stare at her with an expressionless face.
  124. >”Oh fine.” She says, turning around.
  125. >You drop the towel, slipping on your custom made boxers, and pants.
  126. >In no time flat, you're dressed and looking presentable.
  127. “There, all set.”
  128. >”Good, let's get going.” Twilight says opening the door with her magic.
  129. >You follow closely after her.
  130. >Just as soon as you take a few steps out...
  131. “Darn, forgot my watch.”
  132. >You snap your fingers, your watch appearing on your wrist.
  133. >A strange designed watch, one not of Equestrian origin.
  134. >Apparently, besides for your clothes, it was the only thing you arrived with.
  135. “There we are.”
  136. >”You'd forget your own head if it wasn't attached.”
  137. “Shush you.”
  138. >Twilight sticks her tongue out at you, and the two of you laugh making your way into the dining hall.
  139.
  140. >Pushing open the intricate double doors, you already see the Sun Princess seated.
  141. >Celestia: “Good evening Twilight Sparkle, Anonymous. Glad you could join me for dinner tonight.”
  142. “It's our pleasure your highness.” you say with a bow.
  143. >Twilight curtsies as well, before you go to take your seat beside Celestia.
  144. “How have you been Princess?” you ask, as the waiters begin to bring out dinner.
  145. >Celestia: “I've been well Anonymous, how have you and Twilight been keeping?”
  146. >And so on into the night, the three of you carried on small talk, Twilight a bit more nervous than you, even after all this time.
  147. >Topics mostly range from life in Ponyville, to the actual discussion of the expected Harvest numbers.
  148. >Crop yield was expected to be up this year, and improvement of about 10%.
  149. >Celestia was thrilled at the work and projected improvements.
  150. >The three of you ate in relative comfort, although you kept finding yourself staring into Celestia's ethereal mane.
  151. >Something about it always fascinated you, but you could never quite place it.
  152.
  153. >A few hours later...
  154. >Twilight had retired to her room, and you were alone in yours, unable to sleep.
  155. >You've been tossing and turning for an hour now, and you just cant get comfortable.
  156. >Finally kicking off the blankets, you get up throwing on your slippers.
  157. >Perhaps one of your late night strolls will finally let you sleep.
  158. >Grabbing a bath robe as well, you exit out into the dimly lit hallway.
  159. >The white washed walls glow dimly with the light from a few torches.
  160. >Something however seems...
  161. >Off?
  162. >You can't quite place it.
  163. >Walking these halls late at night used to be a past time for you.
  164. >Whenever you had nightmares, you would always wander around, trying to clear your mind.
  165. >Much like you are trying to do now.
  166. >Heading down the marble stairs, you walk outside into the garden.
  167. >The cool, damp night air assaults your senses, jostling you even more awake than you were before.
  168. >Staring up into the night sky, you gander at the infinite cosmos that stretch before you.
  169. >But, all you can think of is a single word...
  170. >And it makes no sense.
  171. >Scratching your head in confusion, you head deeper into the garden.
  172. >The quiet noises of the night sooth your ears, and your mind.
  173. >Sitting down on a park bench, you once again stare up into the infinite Abyss.
  174. >And you finally spot what's off.
  175. >Out of ALL the stars in the sky, there is one seemingly out of place dark spot.
  176. >Almost as if it were darker than the rest somehow.
  177. >”Anonymous?”
  178.
  179. >You turn around with a startle, it's Princess Luna.
  180. >”Art thou alright Sir Anonymous?”
  181. “Y-yes I'm fine. Just thought I saw something funny is all.”
  182. >Luna sits down next to you on the bench.
  183. >”Dost thou likest the night sky we have made this evening?”
  184. “Very much so Princess, although...”
  185. >Luna looks slightly confused.
  186. >”Although?”
  187. “Do you see that blank spot?” you say, trying your best to point upwards at it.
  188. >Luna cranes her neck
  189. >”We are afraid we do not Sir Anonymous...”
  190. >You look up as well, and inexplicably, it's gone.
  191. “Oh, well, perhaps it's just my imagination. It's still a very gorgeous night.”
  192. >Luna looks at you with a slight dip in her smile, but it was quickly rectified.
  193. >”We thank you Anonymous, but we cannot stay. Royal Business calls us away.”
  194. “Of course. It was good seeing you again Princess Luna. Hope we can catch up again soon.”
  195. >”Of course. Fare thee well Anon.” The Night Princess says, beating her wings and flying into the night sky.
  196. >You turn your gaze back star-ward, trying to find that spot, but to no avail.
  197. >Was it truly your imagination?
  198. >Or was it your sense of paranoia is telling you something is up?
  199. >It's one of those moments where you feel totally lost.
  200. >That you aren’t quite sure what's going to happen next.
  201. >You don't like that feeling.
  202.
  203. Epilogue:
  204.
  205. >You are Celestia.
  206. >Exhausted from your long day, you've finally found some respite in your private chambers.
  207. >Taking off your crown and shoes, you relax on the bed, lighting some incense.
  208. >You assume a comfortable position, drawing the curtains of your window, staring out into the night sky.
  209. >Your sister's handy work has improved over time.
  210. >Not that anything really moved anyhow anymore.
  211. >Just a minor shuffle of a few cosmic bodies, no real sweat anymore.
  212. >Not like the first few years.
  213. >Sipping gently on your tea, you find your eyes wandering all over the cosmos.
  214. >You can feel a few of the others, none close by enough to warrant any action though.
  215. >It's been awfully quiet lately.
  216. >Sometimes, that's a good thing.
  217. >Scanning the stars, as you usually do before rest, you look towards the centre.
  218. >Where it all began, so long ago.
  219. >You listen for the dull sound of His slumber, the deep thrum, the soul of the universe.
  220. >But it's not there tonight.
  221. >And that's when you can feel His gaze.
  222. >A small piece of his sentience awoken, and searching your small corner of the universe.
  223. >He's watching, waiting, observing.
  224. >But for what reason?
  225. >It had to be him.
  226. >Someone you know.
  227. >Someone who was brought here, and under your care.
  228. >But...
  229. >He was never interested before...
  230. >Why now?
  231. >You break out into a cold sweat.
  232. >This does not bode well.
