- Imagine, if you would be so kind.
- Let your mind wander, and see what it might find.
- To brilliant vista's of far off seas,
- Of giant, rock baring coconut trees.
- Where the creatures speak backwards just for fun,
- And the birds don’t fly, but would rather run.
- Come with me, if you would,
- To a place that will no longer be, but should.
- Memories of a far off land, buildings of a massive height,
- Peering off, staring at the burning grey jungle is quite a fright.
- Then why does it seem to me that this place is home,
- Where from do, the two legged creatures roam?
- >”Anonymous? Are you in here?”
- >You quickly close the velvet bound book you were writing in, turning around in your chair.
- “Yes Twilight, just doing a bit of reading.” you lie.
- >”Alright, don’t forget about our meeting with the Princess in an hour.”
- “Of course, just finishing up this chapter.”
- >Twilight nods, leaving you in your guest chamber at the castle.
- >She shuts the door, the light from the magic torches leaving your room.
- >The only light now, is the small flickering candle in your room, and the setting sun on the horizon.
- >Shutting the magic lock with a press of your finger, a tiny metal latch clicking into place.
- >You never told her about the dreams, and expressing them through poetry.
- >One of the few things that helped you cope with the dreams of strange places.
- >And the all consuming fires that came within them.
- >Shaking your head, you pocket your tiny journal and return the quill to its holder.
- >The view from the guestroom in Canterlot is wonderful.
- >White rooftops and golden trims line the landscape, giving it a familiar homely glow.
- >That’s of course because you spent many years here.
- >Many of the days during the summers, you would hop from roof to roof, lazing about after getting some exercise.
- >The warm sun would heat those tiles in such a way, that it would soothe all the aches and pains right out of your muscles.
- >In such a busy city, it provided a bit of solace from the hustle and bustle.
- >Staring at the setting sun, your thoughts return to the Princess.
- >She was kind enough to let you stay at the castle after your arrival all those years ago.
- >How many was it now?
- >You can't even recall.
- >You lean on the railing, the warm metal presses against your hands, as your lungs take in the rapidly cooling evening air.
- >Canterlot summer's were often warm and dry during the day, but decently cool during the night.
- >Almost perfect.
- >Looking up into the sky, you can see the stars slowly beginning to dot the expanse.
- >The moon would soon begin it's ascent for the evening, as the sun was bidding adieu.
- >Luna's hard work was becoming apparent once again.
- >Ever since she came back, the skies were always more brilliant, less obscured.
- >Of course Celestia could do a good job, but nothing compared to the efforts of the Night Princess.
- >You could see the sun slowly sinking below the horizon, giving it's last life giving rays away before retiring for the night.
- >The moon to take it's place, a reflection of the Sun's luminescence, but still with it's own importance and unique charm.
- >Gingerly sipping the glass of wine you had, you walk back into the guest room.
- >It was one of the Diplomat guest suites.
- >A bit higher class than normal rooms, but then again, you WERE an ambassador of sorts.
- >The only one of your kind, but one none the less.
- >Setting the wineglass down on the table again, you snuff out the lone candle.
- >Heading into the washroom, you strip down, getting into the shower.
- >The warm water falling over your distinctly unique form.
- >”The only one in all Equestria”
- >That's what they said when you first arrived.
- >Those first few days were pretty much a blur.
- >There were only three things you could really remember about that time.
- >A cold damp place underground.
- >The Princess' kind smile, as she welcomed you to Equestria.
- >And a searing heat coupled with intense feelings of despair and panic.
- >You still get the nightmares about the last one.
- >Hence the journal.
- >It was in your hopes that perhaps one day, you'd be able to piece together everything about it.
- >Pieces to a much larger puzzle.
- >Shame you can't remember pretty much anything before your arrival here.
- >Most times you try not to think of it, as it still makes you feel uneasy.
- >As if there's something telling you NOT to remember.
- >And yet, at the same time, there's that ever jabbing feeling that you are missing something important.
- >You start scrubbing yourself down, trying to clear your mind, and think of happier thoughts.
- >Immediately, your mind turns to all your friends in Ponyville.
- >Ever since moving there with Twilight three years ago, you've had many an adventure.
- >You've grown close to many of the ponies there, despite your strange appearance.
- >The locals hearing of your arrival years ago, you had gained somewhat of a minor celebrity status.
- >Adapting was not too hard, but you still get strange looks every once and a while.
- >Working on your short black hair, your thoughts turn to a certain pony who holds something special to you.
- >Who that is, you would never say in case there's someone listening.
- >You were paranoid a bit like that.
- >Hell, you were paranoid about a lot of things.
- >But, your paranoia has helped you in the past before.
- >Kinda just like Pinkie's Pinkie sense, you get a strange feeling in your gut when something bad is about to happen.
- >And whenever you think about those dreams.
- >The twisted grey beams.
- >The horrible ashen sky.
- >And the ever present terrible scent.
- >You would wander this alien world, ever searching for something.
- >But you would NEVER find it.
- >Only ONCE you had come close.
- >Only to awaken, having sleep walked all the way to the middle of Ponyville.
- >Scrubbing off the rest of the soap, you think on that special somepony again.
- >They were rather important to you, but...
- >You'd have such a hard time putting your feelings into comprehensible words and not just a random jumble of syllables.
- >Perhaps one day.
- >But, not today.
- >Today you had a meeting with the Princess about your time in Ponyville, and the upcoming Harvest Season.
- >Projections and crop yields were looking good.
- >You helped Twilight work on research back in Ponyville, and occasionally helping Mayor Mare with administrative tasks.
- >Everything was fine and dandy.
- >Really, this meeting was an excuse for the Princess to have you and Twilight over for dinner.
- >You all got along pretty well.
- >”Anonymous!”
- >OH SHIT.
- >You slam the shower off, jumping out.
- >Grabbing your towel off the rack, you wrap it around yourself and open the door.
- “Twilight, what's wrong?” you say, still dripping wet
- >She turns her head at your half naked form.
- >”We're going to be late!”
- >You look over at the clock.
- >Sure enough, you were supposed to be down for dinner in five minutes.
- “ARGH, Sorry. I lost track of time” you say, grabbing another towel, drying off.
- >”Just hurry up.” Twilight says with a sigh.
- “Alright! Alright!”
- >One you are decently dry, you grab your dress clothes from the dresser.
- >You look over at Twilight.
- >”What?”
- “Turn around!”
- >”Really Anon?”
- >You just stare at her with an expressionless face.
- >”Oh fine.” She says, turning around.
- >You drop the towel, slipping on your custom made boxers, and pants.
- >In no time flat, you're dressed and looking presentable.
- “There, all set.”
- >”Good, let's get going.” Twilight says opening the door with her magic.
- >You follow closely after her.
- >Just as soon as you take a few steps out...
- “Darn, forgot my watch.”
- >You snap your fingers, your watch appearing on your wrist.
- >A strange designed watch, one not of Equestrian origin.
- >Apparently, besides for your clothes, it was the only thing you arrived with.
- “There we are.”
- >”You'd forget your own head if it wasn't attached.”
- “Shush you.”
- >Twilight sticks her tongue out at you, and the two of you laugh making your way into the dining hall.
- >Pushing open the intricate double doors, you already see the Sun Princess seated.
- >Celestia: “Good evening Twilight Sparkle, Anonymous. Glad you could join me for dinner tonight.”
- “It's our pleasure your highness.” you say with a bow.
- >Twilight curtsies as well, before you go to take your seat beside Celestia.
- “How have you been Princess?” you ask, as the waiters begin to bring out dinner.
- >Celestia: “I've been well Anonymous, how have you and Twilight been keeping?”
- >And so on into the night, the three of you carried on small talk, Twilight a bit more nervous than you, even after all this time.
- >Topics mostly range from life in Ponyville, to the actual discussion of the expected Harvest numbers.
- >Crop yield was expected to be up this year, and improvement of about 10%.
- >Celestia was thrilled at the work and projected improvements.
- >The three of you ate in relative comfort, although you kept finding yourself staring into Celestia's ethereal mane.
- >Something about it always fascinated you, but you could never quite place it.
- >A few hours later...
- >Twilight had retired to her room, and you were alone in yours, unable to sleep.
- >You've been tossing and turning for an hour now, and you just cant get comfortable.
- >Finally kicking off the blankets, you get up throwing on your slippers.
- >Perhaps one of your late night strolls will finally let you sleep.
- >Grabbing a bath robe as well, you exit out into the dimly lit hallway.
- >The white washed walls glow dimly with the light from a few torches.
- >Something however seems...
- >Off?
- >You can't quite place it.
- >Walking these halls late at night used to be a past time for you.
- >Whenever you had nightmares, you would always wander around, trying to clear your mind.
- >Much like you are trying to do now.
- >Heading down the marble stairs, you walk outside into the garden.
- >The cool, damp night air assaults your senses, jostling you even more awake than you were before.
- >Staring up into the night sky, you gander at the infinite cosmos that stretch before you.
- >But, all you can think of is a single word...
- >And it makes no sense.
- >Scratching your head in confusion, you head deeper into the garden.
- >The quiet noises of the night sooth your ears, and your mind.
- >Sitting down on a park bench, you once again stare up into the infinite Abyss.
- >And you finally spot what's off.
- >Out of ALL the stars in the sky, there is one seemingly out of place dark spot.
- >Almost as if it were darker than the rest somehow.
- >”Anonymous?”
- >You turn around with a startle, it's Princess Luna.
- >”Art thou alright Sir Anonymous?”
- “Y-yes I'm fine. Just thought I saw something funny is all.”
- >Luna sits down next to you on the bench.
- >”Dost thou likest the night sky we have made this evening?”
- “Very much so Princess, although...”
- >Luna looks slightly confused.
- >”Although?”
- “Do you see that blank spot?” you say, trying your best to point upwards at it.
- >Luna cranes her neck
- >”We are afraid we do not Sir Anonymous...”
- >You look up as well, and inexplicably, it's gone.
- “Oh, well, perhaps it's just my imagination. It's still a very gorgeous night.”
- >Luna looks at you with a slight dip in her smile, but it was quickly rectified.
- >”We thank you Anonymous, but we cannot stay. Royal Business calls us away.”
- “Of course. It was good seeing you again Princess Luna. Hope we can catch up again soon.”
- >”Of course. Fare thee well Anon.” The Night Princess says, beating her wings and flying into the night sky.
- >You turn your gaze back star-ward, trying to find that spot, but to no avail.
- >Was it truly your imagination?
- >Or was it your sense of paranoia is telling you something is up?
- >It's one of those moments where you feel totally lost.
- >That you aren’t quite sure what's going to happen next.
- >You don't like that feeling.
- Epilogue:
- >You are Celestia.
- >Exhausted from your long day, you've finally found some respite in your private chambers.
- >Taking off your crown and shoes, you relax on the bed, lighting some incense.
- >You assume a comfortable position, drawing the curtains of your window, staring out into the night sky.
- >Your sister's handy work has improved over time.
- >Not that anything really moved anyhow anymore.
- >Just a minor shuffle of a few cosmic bodies, no real sweat anymore.
- >Not like the first few years.
- >Sipping gently on your tea, you find your eyes wandering all over the cosmos.
- >You can feel a few of the others, none close by enough to warrant any action though.
- >It's been awfully quiet lately.
- >Sometimes, that's a good thing.
- >Scanning the stars, as you usually do before rest, you look towards the centre.
- >Where it all began, so long ago.
- >You listen for the dull sound of His slumber, the deep thrum, the soul of the universe.
- >But it's not there tonight.
- >And that's when you can feel His gaze.
- >A small piece of his sentience awoken, and searching your small corner of the universe.
- >He's watching, waiting, observing.
- >But for what reason?
- >It had to be him.
- >Someone you know.
- >Someone who was brought here, and under your care.
- >But...
- >He was never interested before...
- >Why now?
- >You break out into a cold sweat.
- >This does not bode well.
