Personal log d15

Morning.

Could barely sleep, got up and tried to walk it off, didn't help, been up since dawn.

Decided to do a personal log on the side of the 'official' journal. I'd rather not have these read by the royals, or anyone, really, which is why they're carved on discarded bits of wood rather than embassy notebooks. FYI, spears make poor pens, who knew?

I've been spending more and more time by the river lately, sketching ideas and designs in the soft mud, trying to keep my mind occupied. Whenever I don't focus on something, it keeps slipping back, beating myself up over every mistake (that exit wasn't exactly my finest moment), analysing and re-evaluating every little word, look, smile, laugh... touch...

Fuck, I hate infatuation...

 

At least it's made me ACTUALLY DO MY JOB for once, think I might have figured out how to design a displacement pump with our limited resources and precision workmanship (workponyship?), but I'll have to think it through properly before suggesting it, don't want to give Nova any more ammo on my incompetence.

Having running water again would be pretty nice, after all, even if the system would probably have to be all wood, meaning rot, which will probably make it unsuitable for drinking, but washing and sewage would be dealt with. It

should probably last for a decade or so before maintenance starts being a real hassle and we should have the capabilities of going glazed ceramic or zinc/tin plated metal by then.

 

I should also try to get a system for overshooting, or better yet backshooting, the water wheels, I don't like that all of our automation is done by undershot wheels. Just need to wait for more critical projects to finish construction before starting it. Undershot will have to do for now.

good day. wnet down the catacou- cataco- caves with lucy again. rain too and quick and able and dusk and ruby and tide. got battered but carried stuff out. not total faliure. sele- celebras- party at inn afterwards. drunk to much. lucy teased Blaze shouldnt get mad. couldnt help it. lucy teased me. blanked out a bit. quick passed out. lucy and rain helped her out. got home. made this. sleep now.
