  1. >Walking down the halls, you look up at the posters on the walls.
  2. >You stop as you notice those two terrible word, written in bright markers.
  3. >Prom Tonight.
  4. >It's what everyone's been talking about lately, and you won't even be able to get a date.
  5. >Just like every other dance this school has.
  6. >You continue trudging down the hallways, passing many other ponies you knew.
  7. >Well, you knew who they were, not really much about them.
  8. >They didn't even talk to you.
  9. >Passing down the hallways, you head down to the science room.
  10. >This would be your favorite class if it wasn't taught by Mr. Battington.
  11. >He's not bad, he's just a little hateful towards you since Amber and you started hanging together.
  12. >The fact that she doesn't really like you anymore doesn't stop him from being over protective of his daughter.
  13. >You turn a corner as you see something brown fly at your face.
  14. >Getting hit in your muzzle, you fall back holding it to look up to see you books fly around you.
  15. >As you hit the floor, you see a bat pony walk out the door, not even noticing you as you hear ponies snickering as the walk by.
  16. >You pick up your books and dust yourself off as you continue walking.
  17. >You were heading to your class of the day so it wasn't even worth fussing about.
  18. >Finally reaching the door, you walk inside to see other ponies looking at you.
  19. >Why were they staring at you?
  20. >They all stare at you, trying to hold back laughter as you head to your seat.
  21.
  22. >Ponies laugh at you a lot, but not like this.
  23. >Looking around the room, you see the sink and stand up.
  24. >As you walk over to it, you can see yourself better, revealing a large black eye.
  25. >You sigh and walk back to your seat.
  26. >You wait for a while as more ponies come into class followed by Mr. Battington.
  27. >A bat pony with short, red hair sits next to you.
  28. >Lullaby.
  29. >You pay no attention and turns back to Mr. Battington.
  30. >He walks over to the chalk board and turns back to the class.
  31. >"Today, we will be having a pop quiz."
  32. >Groans fill the room around you.
  33. >You didn't really mind, you were pretty good at this stuff.
  34. >Mr. Battington walks around the room, placing papers on everyone's desk.
  35. >He stares for a moment at you before placing the sheet of paper on your desk with his hoof.
  36. >As you look down at the paper, you can hear snoring.
  37. >Turning to face Lullaby, you see her asleep on her desk, as like every other day.
  38. >How she even passes, you have no idea.
  39. >You pick up the pencil in your mouth and get back to your quiz.
  40. >It's just a simple review, only ten questions, nothing you can't handle.
  41. >Let's see...
  42. >A
  43. >C
  44. >A
  45. >D
  46. >B
  47. >C
  48. >A
  49. >A
  50. >D
  51. >B
  52. >That wasn't so hard.
  53. >Setting down the pencil, you pick up the paper in your mouth and walk up to the front of the room.
  54. >You look back at the class, seeing that you're the first one done.
  55.
  56. >You turn back around to face Mr. Battington and set you paper down on his desk.
  57. >He looks up from the book he's reading.
  58. >"Finished first as usual I see?"
  59. >Looking up, your eyes meet his.
  60. "Uh, yes sir."
  61. >With a gurnt, he continues reading.
  62. >You head back to your desk, sitting there as the rest of the class continues their quizes.
  63. >After everyone had finished their quizes, the bell rings, signaling the end of the day.
  64. >Picking up your books and setting them in your bag, you walk out of the classroom.
  65. >Heading down to your locker, you open the door to and put your books away.
  66. >You do carry one thing in your backpack however.
  67. >Your costume.
  68. >The situation to use it hasn't come up yet, but you remain hopeful.
  69. >This whole town can't be perfect, something bad has to happen eventually.
  70. >Exiting out the doors of the school, you head down the dirt road.
  71. >Better head home, don't want Jasmine getting mad at you.
  72. >Walking down the path, you take your time.
  73. >Hollow Shades was a very beautiful village, expecially at this time of night.
  74. >Watching the moon bathe the trees around you in silver light, you can see every single little detail.
  75. >The locust sing as you walk down the paths.
  76. >Pure beauty like this was rare lately in your life.
  77. >You stop for a moment and look around.
  78.
  79. >You didn't recognize where you were.
  80. >Were you lost?
  81. >Walking more, you see the moonlight reflecting off of a large body of water.
  82. >How far have you wandered out here?
  83. >Looking around, you can see flower around the lake, their petals closed for the night.
  84. >You come across a wooden dock, sticking out with some tools on the edge of it.
  85. >As you walk down the dock, the wood creeks underneath you.
  86. >The tools looked like fishing equipment.
  87. >You walk to it and pick a fishing rod up.
  88. >You'd never got fishing before.
  89. >Looking over the shining lake, you could see little ripples in the water.
  90. >You sigh and sit at the edge of the dock, holding the line in your hand.
  91. >As you drop it, you lands in the water, the bobber floating on top of it.
  92. >Sitting back, you wait for a little bit.
  93. >The hook wasn't even baited, but this was still relaxing.
  94. >Birds fly over the lake as you watch the moon.
  95. >All of your surroundings seem at peace, enjoying the night that cloaks the sky.
  96. >Everything was perfectly calm.
  97. >You jump at the sudden break of the silence, a sharp scream piercing through the silence like a knife.
  98. >A feminine scream.
  99. >Dropping the fishing rod, you run towards the sound of the scream, not thinking twice.
  100.
  101. >You stop for a moment, remembering your costume.
  102. >Reaching into your saddle bag, you pull it out and put on your mask.
  103. >As you run towards the source you try to put on your suit, tripping over several times.
  104. >Finally putting on the entire costume, you continue running towards the soucrce of the scream.
  105. >It seemed to come from the way you came.
  106. >Your leg stops as you suddenly fall forward through some branches.
  107. >You pick yourself up, looking back to see your hoof stopped on a root.
  108. >Turning back around, you can see an old bat mare with a very frightened look on her face, staring at you.
  109. >Standing next to her in another bat pony, wearing a black mask, holding a saddle bag as he stares at you.
  110. >As you look at your surrounding more, you seem to be back at Hollow Shades.
  111. >You stand up and face towards the old mare.
  112. "Where did that screaming come from?"
  113. >She points at the bat pony wearing the black mask in response.
  114. >"He stole my saddle bag!"
  115. >This looks like a job for The Mango!
  116. >Extending your hoof, you point at the masked pony.
  117. "Stop right there criminal!"
  118. >You push out your chest and stand as tall as you can, trying to look as tough as possible.
  119. >He blinks a few times staring at you before his face contorts into a look of anger.
  120. >The pony reaches back with his neck, turning back to reveal a knife in his mouth.
  121.
  122. >He has a knife.
  123. >That was the one thing you didn't prepare for.
  124. >Looking down, you realize you aren't prepared for anything.
  125. >You don't even have something to fight with.
  126. >You couldn't rely on fighting skills, you've never been in a fight before.
  127. >There was only one thing you could do at a time like this.
  128. >Turning around as fast as you can, you take off sprinting.
  129. >You didn't even dare looking back to see if he was chasing you.
  130. >Trying your best to lose him, your turn around as many corners as you can.
  131. >As you turn around a corner for the third time, you see a familiar brick building.
  132. >Your school!
  133. >You run towards it to see light on inside it.
  134. >What were they doing on at this time of night?
  135. >It didn't matter, you just needed to get inside.
  136. >Getting to the doors of the building, you open them and run inside to see many ponies you knew staring at you.
  137. >Oh, you were still in your costume.
  138. >You look around as fast as you can, trying to find a bathroom.
  139. >You come across one near the gym and enter it, running straight through the door and turn into a stall.
  140.
  141. >Closing the door behind you, you rip off your costume, not caring for it and throw it in the toilet, trying to flush it down.
  142. >The toilet begins filling with water as the clothe stops clogs the pipes.
  143. >That was not what you wanted.
  144. >Better leave before anypony see this.
  145. >Opening the door behind you, the sound of quiet sobs meets your ears.
  146. >You walk through to see a mare in a blue dress with silver trim.
  147. >Oh yeah, today was the prom.
  148. >She was bent over and crying in the sink with her purple curly hair covering her face.
  149. >It was Amber.
  150. >Why was she crying?
  151. >She was the most beautiful mare in the school, it's not like she couldn't get a date.
  152. >Wait, this means you're in the girl's bathroom.
  153. >Maybe you could sneak out without her seeing you.
  154. >Creeping towards the door, you step as soft as you can.
  155. >You reach the door and try to push it open, but the door creaks as you do.
  156. >Amber lifts her head and turns towards you and meets your gaze.
  157. >...
  158. >"Aux?"
  159. >You could feel your face becoming warm.
  160. "Uh... y-yes? I c-came in here w-when I saw you c-crying..."
  161. >She turns back to face the mirror, seeing her cheecks wet with her own tears.
  162.
  163. >"That's nice of you Aux."
  164. >Maybe you should stay.
  165. "Y-yeah, what happened?"
  166. >She faces you and uses her hoof to push the hair out of her face.
  167. >"My date left me for a prettier mare, and he didn't even tell me before tonight."
  168. >What!?
  169. >What person would leave Amber for anypony else?
  170. "But you're the most beautiful mare in the entire school!"
  171. >Amber's face goes blank as she stares at you, a blush appearing on her face.
  172. >"Um, what?"
  173. >Pausing you realize what you just said.
  174. "I-it's true!"
  175. >You can feel your face beginning to grow red as you back slowly towards the door.
  176. >"Wait, don't go!"
  177. >She steps towards you and reaches out to you.
  178. >"That's the nicest thing anypony has ever said to me."
  179. >Stopping, you step towards her.
  180. >"Would you like to be my date, Aux?"
  181. >Was this seriosuly happening?
  182. "O-okay..."
  183. >A smile spreading across her face, she wipes the tears from her eyes.
  184. >"Yay! Aux, you're amazing!"
  185. "Uh, s-sure..."
  186.
  187. >Taking your hoof, she pulls you through the bathroom door and down the halls.
  188. >She heads towards the gym, pulling you in to wear the lights are dimmed, banners on the walls, and disco lights everywhere.
  189. >This was the last place you expected to be tonight.
  190. >She pulls you out towards where a lot of ponies your age were dancing.
  191. >You follow her until she stops and looks back at you, a huge smile across her face.
  192. >"I can't thank you enough for this!"
  193. "Y-you too..."
  194. >She giggles and takes you with her to the edge of the dancing ponies.
  195. >The song was a slow one, and all the ponies were dancing together.
  196. >It was obvious lots of them were in love.
  197. >Or teenage love, which doesn't last that very long.
  198. >Stopping, Amber turns towards you and takes your hooves and begins stepping in confusing ways.
  199. >You try to keep up with her, having no idea what to do.
  200. >Tripping over your own feet, you stumble as Amber giggles.
  201. >"Don't you know how to dance?"
  202. >You look up at her in acknowledgement.
  203. "N-no pony has ever asked me to dance..."
  204. >She gives a worried frown and extends a hoof out to you.
  205. >"Here, I'll show you."
  206. >She takes your hoof and guides you, telling you exactly where to step with your hind legs until you begin to do it more smoothly.
  207. >After a few minutes, you begin dancing as good as she does, keeping up with her.
  208. >You were always a fast learner.
  209. >As a few minutes of dancing, she rests her head on your shoulder.
  210. >"Aux, you're a great friend."
  211. >Yeah, friend.
  212. >Seems like even the most perfect night can't change that...
