  1. Part 1: The Train Ride
  2. >The suburbia landscape flashes by before your eyes
  3. >The hum of the train car vibrates the seat beneath you
  4. >The soft touch of a head on your shoulder breaks your stare
  5. >You reach out instinctively and wrap your arm around Rose
  6. >She rubs her head against you and starts to stare out the window as well
  7. >It has been 4 months since that night on the roof
  8. >Between school, work, and planning a wedding your plates been full
  9. >But some of that has just changed
  10. >You finally have your degree
  11. >It has been a long time coming
  12. >Now you just need to figure out what to do with it
  13. >You have some ideas, nothing concrete yet
  14. >You have a feeling though that you want to get out of the city
  15. >You have been discussing the idea with Rose
  16. >She agrees that it would be nice to get out into the country
  17. >She never did seem like the city girl type
  18. >But that’s not the reason for this train ride
  19. >You mind drifts back about a month ago
  20. >You and Rose were discussing the wedding
  21. >Mostly you were discussing the guest list
  22. >You had both decided that it should be a relatively small affair
  23. >Only close friends and family members
  24. >She was talking about her friends that would attend
  25. “Let’s see, Lilly and Daisy are at the top of the list.”
  26. “Perhaps Lyra also.”
  27. >”I’ll probably have Rob be my Best Man, he’ll bring Lyra as his date”
  28. “Excellent, I don’t have much in a way of family. What about you Anon?”
  29. >”Huh?”
  30. “I was asking about your family, anyone that you want to invite…”
  31. >You were hoping to avoid this as long as possible
  32. >Maybe even make it through the wedding without including them
  33. >But it looks like it’s time to face the music
  34. >”Nope, no family.”
  35. >Rose gives you a strange look
  36. “Don’t lie Anon; I have heard you talking on the phone to your mother plenty of times.”
  37. “You also frequently ask about your father and sister.”
  38. >Right, fuck… gotta dodge this
  39. >”They all live pretty far away; they won’t be able to make it…”
  40. “Anon… what’s wrong, you know that I know that you used to live just outside of the city…”
  41. >You really need to stop digging yourself a hole
  42. “Maybe we should go visit them before the wedding… so that way you can introduce me…”
  43. >Terrible Idea
  44. >”I don’t think that’s the best idea, we are pretty busy as it is.”
  45. “But you’re almost done with school, we could both use a nice vacation way to relax, meeting you parents would be nice also…”
  46. >You’re not going to escape this very easily
  47. >Maybe just telling her the truth…
  48. >”There’s a reason, why I don’t want you meeting them, or them at the wedding.”
  49. “Oh, are you sure? I think that they would love to see their son get married”
  50. >”It’s not that, I’m sure they would love to see me get married”
  51. >You swallow hard prepping yourself the next bit
  52. >”You see my parents aren’t as… open minded as some humans.”
  53. >Rose gives you another strange look
  54. “What do you mean Anon, do they hate ponies or something?”
  55. >”Oh no, they don’t hate the ponies, it’s just that…”
  56. >You take a pause
  57. >”My parents are really religious.”
  58. “I still don’t follow anon, what does their religion have to do with us getting married?”
  59. >”Everything…”
  60. >You get up and walk across the room and pull open a drawer
  61. >You reach inside and pull out an old leather bound book
  62. >The golden letter on the front of it identify the books name
  63. >The Holy Bible
  64. >You walk back over to Rose and start flipping through the pages
  65. “What book is that Anon?”
  66. >”This is the Bible; it is a religious text that hold the history and laws of the Christian faith.”
  67. >”My parents religion.”
  68. >You start reading several verses from the Bible
  69. >All of them that you quote deal with the consequences of relations between man and beast
  70. >You finish and look at Rose
  71. >”My parents believe this unquestionably. They think it’s a sin.”
  72. “Ok, but from what I understand, that was written a long time ago”
  73. “They would have no idea that an intelligent pony race would come to Earth.”
  74. “Besides, I bet they were referring to the animals of this Earth.”
  75. “I am not exactly from here, am I?”
  76. >She playfully snuggles her muzzle against your cheek
  77. >”You have that right, but my parents don’t see it that way.”
  78. >”I still remember a conversation with my mother about people who were just dating ponies.”
  79. >”She had a few choice words to say on the matter.”
  80. >You sit with Rose quietly for a time
  81. “I still want to meet them, and want them to come to the wedding.”
  82. >”I know, but I don’t think I can change their opinions on the matter.”
  83. >Rose gets a devious smile on her face
  84. “I have an idea Anon…”
  85. “Tickets, tickets please!”
  86. >The sound of the conductor’s voice jolts you back to the present
  87. >You quickly find your tickets and hand them to the conductor
  88. >That’s why I’m here
  89. >The plan was to visit with your parents for a few days
  90. >Your sister was also staying with them
  91. >It was also so convenient
  92. >You would show up and present Roseluck as a close friend
  93. >You would then try and convince your parents about your intentions
  94. >Sounds simple enough…
  95. >What could possibly go wrong?
  96. >You sigh as you continue to stare out the window
  97. >Everything that’s what
  98. >But honestly what is the worse that could happen
  99. >Your parents shun you; call you a horsefucker and prune your branch from the family tree
  100. >Maybe you could recruit some help from your sister
  101. >She, like you, was never big into religion
  102. >Plus being the stoner that she is
  103. >She is open to all kinds of new ideas
  104. >Right?
  105. >You sigh again
  106. >”This is a huge mistake…”
  107. >Rose tries to reassure you the best she can
  108. “Don’t worry; everything will turn out for the best.”
  109. >”I know, I just am still worried about what my parents will think”
  110. “Anon, I know you want your parents to accept out engagement.”
  111. “But, why should you be worried? Even if they don’t approve, you still have me?”
  112. >That thought does bring a smile to your face.
  113. >That is all that you have to remember
  114. >No matter what happens over the next few days
  115. >At the end you will still have the mare you love
  116. >Those thoughts hang in your mind as the brake for the train engage
  117. “Last stop everybody! Welcome to Fox Grove!”
  118. End of Part 1
  119.
  120. Part 2:Hometowns
  121. >The train slowly rolls into the station
  122. >You get up and first help Rose out with her saddle bags
  123. >You collect the rest of your things and disembark the train
  124. >Fox Grove, been a long time since you’ve been here
  125. >While this isn’t your home town, you did spend a good majority of your time here
  126. >This being the next biggest town and the only once with a grocery store and a movie theater assured that.
  127. >The place hasn’t changed a bit
  128. >You take a look around looking for your sister
  129. >She was supposed to be here right around now
  130. >You sigh, she is probably late, again
  131. >Most likely she got high and forgot the time…
  132. >Might as well show Roseluck around the local scene while you wait
  133. >”Looks like my sister is going to be late. Let’s get something to eat. I know a great local dinner.”
  134. >Rose looks up at you and nods and follows you into town
  135. >The local diner isn’t far from the train station
  136. >“The Crossing” is just like you remember it, filled with a bunch of old railroad stuff and little toy trains
  137. >You walk in and sit yourself down at one of the booths
  138. >A familiar looking woman walks up to your booth
  139. >You recognize her as a childhood friend
  140. >You smile politely
  141. >”Hello Amy”
  142. >She is shocked that you know her name
  143. >She stares at you for a second
  144. “So, anon, you finally come back for a visit.”
  145. >She turns to Rose
  146. “And you brought a friend”
  147. >She shakes her head
  148. “Why am I not surprised…”
  149.  >What is that supposed to mean…
  150. >”Nice to see you to Amy, just two salads please.”
  151. >Amy walks off, you can’t help but notice that she stops and whispers other waitress behind the counter
  152. “Who was that Anon?”
  153. >”She was an old High School friend. We will probably run into more of them while we are in town”
  154. >Another reason to get out of here
  155. >You check your phone, nothing from your sister yet.
  156. >You quickly shoot off a text asking her where she is
  157. >You turn back to Roseluck
  158. >”So what do you think so far.”
  159. “I like the small and cozy feeling of the town, it’s nice.”
  160. “There’s just one thing, I haven’t seen very many ponies since we left the city.”
  161. >She is right of course, you just came to realize the besides the ponies who got off the train with you; you may have only seen one maybe two other ponies.
  162. >It makes sense though, most ponies lived in the cities.
  163. >But that was unicorns, most earth ponies should be out her
  164. >But this is a far cry from the country
  165. >Maybe very few ponies settled in small towns like this
  166. >The vibration from your phone interrupts your thoughts
  167. >You check it, it’s a message from your sister
  168. ‘Sry bro, brt. :)’
  169. >Thought so…
  170. >Your food arrives a few seconds later
  171. >After a nice quiet meal and a little wait your sister walks in through the door
  172. >Your sister Sam, she’s about a foot shorter than you with blonde hair and blue eyes
  173. >Most guys would call her a babe
  174. >But you see her as your younger sister, you being two years older
  175. >You get up and give her a big hug
  176. >Your nose is assaulted by a familiar aroma
  177. >Your sister never ceases to amaze…
  178. >”Good to see you Sam, how are you doing”
  179. “Just fine Anon, sorry I lost sense of time.”
  180. >As she pulls away you can’t help but notice her eyes are bloodshot
  181. >”Yeah, I wonder how that happened…”
  182. >She laughs a little too hard at your joke.
  183. >She stares past you at Rose
  184. “So, who’s your pony friend?”
  185. >Your sister walks over to Rose and kneels down in front of her
  186. >”This is my friend Roseluck; Roseluck this is my sister Sam.”
  187. “Nice to meet you Sam.”
  188. “Nice to meet you too Rose.”
  189. >Your sister holds out a hand and Rose lifts her front hoof to shake
  190. >you pay the check and follow your sister out onto the streets
  191. >Parked in front of the restaurant is your old truck
  192. >”Glad to see you taking care of my truck.”
  193. “I needed some way to get around, besides you were off in the city at college.”
  194. >You throw your bags and Rose’s saddle bags into the truck bed before climbing into the cab
  195. >”I’m driving Sam”
  196. “Aww, but I’m perfectly straight Anon.”
  197. >”Right… my truck, I’m driving”
  198. >She huffs and tosses you the keys
  199. >Rose climbs up beside you and your sister sits in the passenger seat
  200. >The cab is pretty packed
  201. >Thankfully it’s a relatively short drive back to your house
  202. >You try your best to drive in the cramped positions
  203. >Your sister and Roseluck start talking
  204. “So what do you do for a living Sam?”
  205. “Oh, some here and there jobs, I’m currently going to the community college for classes”
  206. “That sounds nice, what are you going for?”
  207. “Dunno.”
  208. >You sigh and shake your head
  209. “So, Rose whats your “special talent”.”
  210. >She actually uses air quotes
  211. “Oh, I grow all different kind of flowers and sell them. My favorites to grow are Roses.”
  212. “Do you also grow herbs?”
  213. >Oh no, not that direction
  214. >”Sam...”
  215. “What? I’m taking an interest on your friend’s natural talent with growing things.”
  216. >”No”
  217. “College changed you bro, you used to be so laid back, I remember a time where you would ask the same question…”
  218. >You immediately blush
  219. “What does she mean Anon?”
  220. >”Nothing Rose, my sister is just trying to dig up some old skeletons from my past.”
  221. >Rose leans her head against your shoulder
  222. >You appreciate the closeness
  223. >Until the thought that your sister is in the car comes to your mind
  224. >You quickly glance over at your sister who seems to be preoccupied with the passing landscape
  225. >Thank god for stoner concentration
  226. >You eventually enter into the township of Spring Lake
  227. >A significantly smaller town than Fox Grove
  228. >Spring Lake has a school, a post office, a gas station, and a small general store
  229. >A few farms on the outskirts
  230. >At least that’s what you remember of it
  231. >Since you’ve been gone some of the farms have sold their land to housing developments
  232. >Spring Lake is now only slightly smaller than Fox Grove
  233. >All it is missing is a movie theater and a train station and they would be roughly equal to each other.
  234. >You remember the way home like the back of your hand
  235. >You eventually arrive at your childhood home
  236. >A smallish house
  237. >It has a living room, kitchen, basement, and a second floor with a bathroom and three bedrooms
  238. >A nice house
  239. >Quickly get out and start unpacking the car
  240. >Your sister charges up to the house and inside
  241. >Knowing here she’s going to hide her stuff
  242. >You slowly walk up to your childhood home with Rose
  243. >When you enter the house your sister charges down the stairs with a big smile
  244. “I’ll let Anon show you around, I’ll be in back if you want to chat later.”
  245. >Note to self, don’t let Roseluck go to the back alone
  246. >You give Roseluck a quick tour of the house
  247. >When you come to your room you pause
  248. >The last time you were here…
  249. >You opened the door
  250. >Yep, like you feared it’s exactly the same
  251. >Posters for video games and comics cover the walls
  252. >A bookshelf filled with sci-fi books and graphic novels on one wall
  253. >Oh god, I was such a geek through high school
  254. >Roseluck follows you into the room
  255. >She a quick look around and turns to you
  256. >”I know, its looks really geeky, but I can explain…”
  257. “It does, but it’s your life. Plus, I like it.”
  258. >You smile, how did you get such a great mare
  259. >Time for some bad news.
  260. >”Until I tell my parents about us, it might be best if we don’t sleep together.”
  261. >She looks hurt by this…
  262. “I understand…”
  263. >”I’ll make it up, I promise.”
  264. >She starts to leave and looks back at you
  265. “Oh you will, am I sleeping on the couch then?”
  266. >Before you can answer you hear the sound of the front door opening
  267. >You swallow hard because you know what it means
  268. >Your parents are home…
  269. End of Part 2
  270.
  271. Part 3: Dinner with the Rents
  272. >You leave you room and make your way downstairs
  273. >As you come insight of the front door you see your mother and father standing there
  274. >Your mother, slightly shorter than you with black hair. She looks young for her age, 51.
  275. >Your mother never competed high school; she has always help odd jobs.
  276. >She was a cleaning woman for a while, eventually she got a job as a cashier at one of the local supermarkets.
  277. >She has always regretted never finishing high school. She tries to keep a clean house and enjoy yard work and gardening.
  278. >Your father, slightly taller than you with blonde hair slightly receding. A tad older than your mother, 53.
  279. >He completed high school and some college. Never put any of it to use and got a job with Comtech, a computer repair company.
  280. >He retired before you left, he now works part time as a mechanic down at a local garage.
  281. >You rush over and give them both a hug
  282. “Glad to have you home Anon”
  283. “Good to see you son, how has college treated you?”
  284. >”Glad to be home mom, college was fine dad, just glad it’s over.”
  285. >The sound of approaching hoof steps interrupts the reunion
  286. >You turn around and notice that Roseluck is standing behind you, smiling politely
  287. >You smile back at her
  288. >You father coughs a bit
  289. >”So, who is the pony?”
  290. >”Mom, Dad, this is Roseluck. She is friend of mine from the city.”
  291. >Your Dad only nods
  292. >Your mother on the other hand walks forward and kneels down before Rose
  293. >”We don’t get many ponies out here, there are very few that moved here. It’s nice to meet you Roseluck.”
  294. >Your mother and Roseluck shake hands/hooves
  295. >Around this time your sister comes in through the kitchen
  296. >She looks a little surprised to see your parents home
  297. “Mom! Dad! How was the trip to the store? I’ll be right back!”
  298. >Your sister immediately runs upstairs
  299. >Your mother shakes her head and your father sighs
  300. >Both of your parents know about your sisters “habit”
  301. >You really don’t know how, but she somehow got them to believe that she does it do deal with anxiety
  302. >You hope that you can use that to your advantage when it comes time to tell you parents about you and rose
  303. >But for now you are left standing in the living room with your parents and Rose
  304. >Someone needs to break this silence
  305. >You pat your stomach
  306. >”How I didn’t realize how long of a day it’s been, whats for dinner mom?”
  307. >You mother chuckles at this comment
  308. “You haven’t been home for four years, and the minute I walk through the door you want something to eat, you haven’t changed Anon…”
  309. >You shrug slightly
  310. “Dinner will be ready in a bit”
  311. “Actually do you mind if I bring your pony friend along with me?”
  312. “I have never cooked for a pony before.”
  313. >You wonder if it would be the best idea to leave them alone together, but Rose interrupts your thoughts.
  314. “I would love to help you in the kitchen Mrs. Mous”
  315. >You watch as Rose follows your mother into the kitchen
  316. >Which leaves you…
  317. >Alone, in the living room, with your father
  318. >You turn to your Father and put on a bright smile
  319. >”So, what do you want to hear about first? College or just life.”
  320. >Your dad walks over to the big easy chair in the corner and sits down and starts watching T.V.
  321. >He turns back to you
  322. “Sit down Anon, and relax, your home now.”
  323. >You give a nervous smile and take a seat on the sofa.
  324. >While dinner is being made by your mother and Rose, you and your father catch up
  325. >You tell him about college and how great it was to finally get a degree
  326. >He asks the same question everyone asks about your plans now
  327. >You ask him about how work down at the shop is
  328. >He complains about how idiotic people can be with their cars
  329. >Overall it is a good chat getting caught up with your father
  330. >You are thankful that he doesn’t ask any questions about Roseluck
  331. >You don’t know how you would answer them.
  332. >Before long you start to smell the aroma of food come from the next room
  333. >You sister comes bounding down the stairs soon after
  334. >Exclaiming how hungry she is
  335. >You chuckle to yourself as you, Sam, and your father all make their way into the kitchen
  336. >The table is crowded with 5 people seated around it
  337. >You glad that you and Rose are sitting next to each other
  338. >Your mom brings big steaming pot of vegetable stew over.
  339. >You also notice a plate of meat sitting on the table
  340. >You look over at Rose and motion towards the meat
  341. >She shrugs and shakes her head
  342. >You mom takes her seat and then looks around the table
  343. “Anon, please say grace.”
  344. >You groan slightly, it’s been awhile since you have done this
  345. >You bow your head and close your eyes
  346. >Everyone follows suit including Rose
  347. >”Dear Heavenly Father, we thank you for this meal that you have provided for us. I also thank you for helping bring my family and friends together so we can enjoy this meal with each other. In our saviors name we pray. Amen”
  348. >Your mother smiles over at you
  349. “That was great Anon.”
  350. >Your mother then quickly changes the subject to Rose
  351. “So tell me Rose, how did you and Anon meet?”
  352. >Oh god…
  353. “Well when I arrived here, I found myself in a dumpster, your son saved me.”
  354. “Oh, my son is such the hero!”
  355. >Ok, so far so good
  356. “You two seem to be pretty good friends”
  357. “We are, we are currently roommates”
  358. >FUCK!
  359. >You cough a bit on some stew going down the wrong pipe.
  360. “Roommates? Anon, you never metioned that…”
  361. >*cough,cough* “It didn’t seem like relevant information…”
  362. “I see…”
  363. >You mom stirs her food a bit more
  364. “I don’t really know much about ponies, but from what I understand you all have special talents, whats yours?”
  365. >Rose smiles, she loves telling people about her talent
  366. “I grow and sell flowers, my favorites are Roses.”
  367. >For some reason you notice your mothers eyes light up
  368. “Oh! Maybe you can help me in the garden tomorrow! I have been having some trouble with some of my flowers.”
  369. >Rose smiles politely
  370. “I would love to help anyway I can.”
  371. >This is going better than expected
  372. >The rest of the dinner goes by with some minimal conversation
  373. >You help your mother clean up the dishes and start getting ready for night
  374. >You set up Roseluck on the couch before retiring to your own room
  375. >Before you leave her you take a quick look around
  376. >With no one in site you give her a hug and a kiss on the cheek
  377. >You have a hard time getting to sleep that night
  378. >About halfway throught the night you wake up from a nightmare covered in sweat
  379. >You don’t remember it, but it causes you to get up and go check on rose
  380. >As you open your bedroom door you discover that rose is standing outside of it
  381. >She looks up at you with worried eyes
  382. >you whisper quietly in the night
  383. >”Bad dream”
  384. >She nods
  385. >You step aside and allow her into your bedroom
  386. >It is the dead of night
  387. >Everyone is asleep
  388. >Everyone expect you and Rose
  389. >You didn’t mean for it to happen
  390. >But the smell of her, coupled with the warmth of her body pressed against you sends you into over drive
  391. >It is hard to fight a force like that
  392. >But it helps as you and Rose lie exhausted in each other’s arms
  393. >You both slowly pass into the realm of dreams.
  394. End of Part 3
  395.
  396. Part 4: A Slow Boil
  397. >You wake up in the morning still slightly tired
  398. >Rose is still fast asleep next to you
  399. >You carefully get out of bed attempting not to wake her
  400. >You succeed and make your way downstairs
  401. >As you enter into the kitchen you sister is already up standing at the back door
  402. >No big surprise, she’s holding a small glass pipe in her hands
  403. >She takes another hit from the pipe and lets hit out coughing a little
  404. >She turns to you and smiles
  405. “Hey big bro, wanna hit; you know, for old time sakes?
  406. >”If you think I am going to do that, you must be high.”
  407. >”Oh wait, you are!”
  408. >She chuckles a bit and takes another hit
  409. >You start to make yourself a pot of coffee
  410. “So how did you sleep last night, stallion?”
  411. >You start to formulate an answer in your mind
  412. >But something stops you
  413. >Stallion…
  414. >Huh, only Rose calls you that…
  415. >But, how could she have heard it the last time Rose said that was…
  416. >Last night, in your room
  417. >Which happens to share a paper thin wall with your sister’s room
  418. >…
  419. >Well fuck…
  420. >”What did you hear last night?”
  421. >Your sister smiles mischievously
  422. “Enough to know you were railing a pony last night”
  423. >For some reason those words bring your emotions to a slow simmer
  424. >”She has a name you know…”
  425. >Your sister must have heard it in your voice because she backs off immediately
  426. “Honestly, I had a hunch before last night though”
  427. “You can’t ignore the way she looks at you, plus I got a call from your friend down at the dinner.”
  428. “So, my brother, the horsefucker; I wonder what mom and dad will think.”
  429. >”You can’t tell them! It’s the reason why I came home.”
  430. >Your sister tilts her head to the side
  431. “You came home to tell mom and dad that you’re a horsefucker?”
  432. >”It’s a lot more complicated than that, and can you stop using that word!”
  433. >A few seconds later you hear the distinct sound of hooves coming down the stairs
  434. >Roseluck comes down the stair and enters into the kitchen
  435. “Oh, good morning Anon and Sam, I was just using the bathroom.”
  436. >”She knows about last night Rose, I was just about to tell her the rest.”
  437. >Rose looks slightly embarrassed and avoids eye contact with your sister
  438. >”Sam, me and Rose are engaged.”
  439. >You sister stops and stares at you and Rose
  440. >She starts to laugh hysterically
  441. “Oh! I am going to want to be blazed for this!”
  442. >”Thanks for the sympathies sis.”
  443. >She smiles and puts the pipe away
  444. >She walks over and does something unexpected
  445. >She kneels down and hugs Rose
  446. “Don’t worry, I accept this, sis.”
  447. >Well that went better than expected
  448. >One down two to go
  449. >The rest of the morning goes relatively smoothly
  450. >Breakfast is made and devoured
  451. >Your mother and Roseluck disappear out into the garden
  452. >Your dad asks you to come with him to the store to get a few things
  453. >You agree and hop into your truck and drive into town
  454. >While shopping the conversation quickly turns to Rose
  455. “So, about that pony that you brought home.”
  456. >”She does have a name dad.”
  457. “Right Roseluck, you two seem close.”
  458. >”She is a good friend of mine.”
  459. “Yes, a good friend…”
  460. “I just want to know if it goes further than that.”
  461. >It’s ok, he knows nothing, just play dumb.
  462. >”What do you mean?”
  463. “I want to make sure that you are not one of them horsefuckers.”
  464. >”It’s nothing like that dad, me and Roseluck are just good friends.”
  465. “That good because you know what the Bible says about…”
  466. >Your dad launches into a sermon about bestiality.
  467. >Your brain turns off halfway through the sermon
  468. >It’s going to take a miracle to convince him otherwise
  469. >You sigh and continue your shopping though the store
  470. >The rest of the shopping trip and the car ride home are eerily quiet
  471. >You are thankful when you finally pull up to your childhood home
  472. >You gather the groceries and head inside
  473. >When you get inside you see you sister and Roseluck sitting on the couch
  474. >”Hey Sam, what’s up?
  475.  “Nothing just hangin out.”
  476. >You look to Roseluck who has her head inside of a bag of potato chips
  477. >That’s odd
  478. >You bring the groceries into the kitchen and start putting them away
  479. >”So, is mom still out in the garden”
  480. “No, she went down to a neighbor’s house.”
  481. >Wait…
  482. >”How long ago…?
  483. >You hear your sister giggle
  484. “Oh about an hour ago.”
  485. >Rose has been left alone with your sister for an hour
  486. >Shit…
  487. >You walk back into the living room
  488. >Rose still has the bag of potato chips
  489. >”Rose, are you ok?”
  490. >You hear a muffled giggle and what sounds like a yes come from the bag
  491. >You walk over and pull the bag off of her muzzle
  492. >Rose looks up at you with a goofy smile on her face
  493. “I’m fine sweetie how are you.”
  494. >You turn to your sister who has the broadest smile on her face
  495. >”Sam, what did you do?”
  496. “Nothing…”
  497. >You look back to Rose
  498. >She spring forward and gives you a hug
  499. “I’m so glad your back, I missed you.”
  500. >”Rose, my dad is home, he could walk in at any minute…”
  501. >You hear a cough behind you
  502. >Fear runs through your veins
  503. >You didn’t hear the door even open
  504. >You turn to see your father standing in the door way
  505. >He doesn’t look happy
  506. >Not happy at all
  507. “Son, looks like we have a lot to discuss.”
  508. End of Part 4
  509.
  510. Part 5:Boiling Point
  511. >You were able to calm your dad down enough to hold of the talk
  512. >For now
  513. >You take Rose up the stairs to your bedroom
  514. >Your sister bounds along behind
  515. >You close the door and flip on the T.V.
  516. >You quickly find some cartoons to preoccupy their minds
  517. >you start to think about how you are going to handle this
  518. >There really is no way to handle this
  519. >Either your parents accept it or they don’t
  520. >You just need to state your case and leave it at that
  521. >But they have their “doctrine” behind them
  522. >While you can always have some argument against it
  523. >You remember that most people won’t readily abandon their religious beliefs
  524. >It doesn’t look good for you and Rose
  525. >You look over at your sister and Rose
  526. >They are laughing at the latest episode of Adventure Time
  527. >You can’t exactly blame Rose for trying it
  528. >She has always been curious about trying new things
  529. >There is no way she could have known what would happen
  530. >But your sister on the other hand…
  531. >You sigh
  532. >Can’t blame her either
  533. >Sure she should have known better than to give pot to Rose
  534. >But then again Rose probably questioned her about it…
  535. >Your sister would have agreed to let her try some…
  536. >Such a mess
  537. >In a way you envy them
  538. >You wish that you could just escape from this situation
  539. >Just let your mind float and forget about the whole thing
  540. >Let the problem fade away in the background
  541. >And just rest in the bliss that is ignorance
  542. >It would be easy…
  543. >Your pretty sure that your sister has some still on her
  544. >Just crack open the window
  545. >Take a few hits
  546. >And just fade away…
  547. >But you can’t, someone had to face this
  548. >And hopefully Rose will be sober when that time comes
  549. >You begin to wonder what time you mom will get back
  550. >As if on cue you hear the muffled sound of the front door opening
  551. >The comes the muffled words of your mother and father
  552. >Followed by of course by your father screaming obscenities
  553. >”Horsefucker!”, “Deviant!”, “Pervert!”
  554. >It isn’t the words that hurt you the most
  555. >It’s what you can barely make out under the words
  556. >Your mothers quiet sobbing
  557. >It starts to break your heart
  558. >It’s your fault…
  559. >You hurt your mother and made her cry
  560. >Why couldn’t you just be a normal human?
  561. >Why did you have to fall for a pony?
  562. >Why did they have to come here?
  563. >The thoughts spin in your head
  564. >Your vision start to cloud
  565. >You find yourself unable to think straight
  566. >Put your face into your hands
  567. >You feel the heat buildup in your face
  568. >The tears come slowly
  569. >But they don’t stop
  570. >Your breath shorten as you gasp for air
  571. >You feel weak all over
  572. >You feel alone
  573. >Then something reaches out and touches you
  574. >The distinct feeling of an arm around your shoulder
  575. >It pulls you down until your laying down on someone’s stomach
  576. >The warm fur against your face and the smell of roses confirms the owner
  577. >You bury your face into your fiancés fur and let the tears flow
  578. >All the while you feel the reassuring touch of her hoof on your back
  579. >It gives you strength
  580. >You can face this
  581. >As long as it is with her
  582. >You feel yourself calming down and your breathing slowing
  583. >You get up and look into Rose’s eyes
  584. >They are still blood shot
  585. >But you can see that sobriety is returning to her gaze
  586. “I’m sorry Anon, I shouldn’t have…”
  587. >You pull her into your arms
  588. >”It’s ok Rose, we were going to have to face this eventually”
  589. >You give her a kiss on the head and then turn to your sister
  590. “Aww isn’t this sweet…”
  591. >”Sam, I should really be more pissed with you.”
  592. “Hey bro she asked…”
  593. >”I could have guessed… but now we have to deal with the consequences…”
  594. >”And you are going to help.”
  595. “Whoa! This isn’t my fight, it’s yours.”
  596. >”You got my fiancé high; it’s your fight now.”
  597. “Pfft, fine, but only because I like your pony. She’s cool.”
  598. >”Are you ready Rose?”
  599. >She nods
  600. “I think so…”
  601. >You all get up and exit your room
  602. >So see your parents both seated on the couch
  603. >The bible lays open on the table in front of them
  604. >Your mother’s eyes are red and puffy from crying
  605. >You find it hard to read your father’s expression
  606. >You sit down opposite of them
  607. >Rose sits down next to you
  608. >Your sits seats herself of to the side in-between you and your parents
  609. >Your dad opens with the first shot
  610. “Anything you have to say for yourself, horsefucker?”
  611. >You smile
  612. >”That’s a pretty derogatory term for a Christian man to use.”
  613. >That may not have been the best thing to say
  614. >You dad’s face flushes red
  615. “You know what we think about human-pony relationships…”
  616. >”Yes and it’s close minded and old fashioned!”
  617. >You dad picks up the Bible
  618. “The Old Testament says…”
  619. >”We both know that the Old Testament became invalid when the new Covenant was made.”
  620. “That doesn’t matter! The Bible says that a proper relationship is between a man and a woman”
  621. >”She is a woman, Dad!”
  622. “Wrong! She is a Mare! Nothing but a filthy animal!”
  623. >It appears it’s Roseluck turn
  624. >She is up and fighting at these words
  625. ”Mr.Mous, I don’t know much about your religion, but I do know I am more than a filthy animal!”
  626. “Stay out of this!”
  627. “No! I love your son! We came here to tell you about our relationship and to invite you to our wedding.”
  628. >Incoming shitstorm!
  629. “WHAT?! YOU’RE MARRYING THIS THING?!”
  630. >You slightly shrink away from your father’s outburst.
  631. >”Yes dad, me and Roseluck are getting married.”
  632. >It is around now that you notice one thing
  633. >Your mother hasn’t said a word about this…
  634. >”Mom, what do you have to say?”
  635. >She stares blankly at you.
  636. “Your fathers right Anon. The bible is clear what happens to horsefuckers.”
  637. >You nod, even your mother…
  638. >Rose speaks up
  639. “Mrs. Mous, we had such a great time in the garden together. Could an animal help you like that?”
  640. >Your mother’s eyes fill with tears
  641. “Th-that was be-before…”
  642. >Go with this…
  643. >”Ponies do things that animal are incapable of. They talk, they use tools, and they feel emotions.”
  644. >”They are capable of understanding other for their differences”
  645. >”The only difference between Rose and a human is that Rose looks like a pony.”
  646. >”There is no other difference.”
  647. >Your mother is quietly sobbing now.
  648. >Your father looks down at the floor avoiding eye contact with you
  649. “Leave…”
  650. >”What… dad wait…”
  651. >”Leave my home this instant! You are nothing more than a dirty horsefucker! Take your mare, I never want to see either of you again!”
  652. >Sadness washes over you…
  653. >You look to your sister
  654. >She sits there her mouth agape
  655. >”Thanks for the help, can you at least drive us back to the train station.”
  656. >She nods her head wordlessly
  657. >You and Rose pack up your things
  658. >And leave your parents behind…
  659. End of Part 5
  660.
  661. Part 6: Aftermath
  662. >The drive back to the train station seems longer than usual
  663. >Everyone in a the car is dead silent
  664. >There are no words to say after all
  665. >You parents just disowned you
  666. >You were told that the person that you chose to love and cherish was immoral
  667. >Even worse, she was compared to a filthy animal
  668. >This trip couldn’t have gone worse
  669. >There still a part of you that wants to leave this entire situation behind
  670. >Just to forget about you family and live in ignorance
  671. >But you can’t
  672. >You know deep down that your father’s words are going to haunt you for a long time
  673. >Horsefucker, filthy animal, it…
  674. >You put your arm around Roseluck and pull her close
  675. >She doesn’t show it right now, but you know she is hurting just as much as you are
  676. >Even your stoner of a sister
  677. >The one who usually has a smile on her face or a witty remark…
  678. >Even she is dumbfounded by the whole situation
  679. >The car ride drags on and on
  680. >Eventually you reach the train station
  681. >You visit the ticket counter and buy two tickets back to Chicago
  682. >Your train is two hours out
  683. >Plenty more time to sit and sulk
  684. >You sit on a bench with Rose lying next to you
  685. >Her head resting on your lap
  686. >You absent mindedly run your fingers through her mane
  687. >Your sister stands next to the bench leaning on a wall
  688. >The time creeps steadily by
  689. >It is as if the whole world has muted itself
  690. >There is barely any sound of traffic or wind blowing
  691. >Just you and your thoughts
  692. >You never understood the phrase “Silence is deafening” until now
  693. >Some needs to say something
  694. >It is your sister who finally speaks
  695. “Anon, I really am sorry about everything”
  696. >You sigh and lean back
  697. >”It isn’t your fault the discussion was going to happen anyways.”
  698. “But I was the one who gave Rose pot and got her high. If I didn’t do that dad wouldn’t have seen…”
  699. >You cut her off
  700. >”All that did was change the presentation, it didn’t factor into the conversation at all.”
  701. “But I should have done more to help…”
  702. >”Drop it Sam…”
  703. “But…”
  704. >”I SAID DROP IT!”
  705. >Wow, what’s wrong with you…
  706. >You have never snapped like that at your sister.
  707. >You hang your head
  708. >”I’m sorry, It’s just…”
  709. “I know, it’s everything…”
  710. >The silence returns, but is quickly broken
  711. “You know, It looked like you were getting somewhere with mom.”
  712. >You shake your head
  713. >”You heard what she said, she agrees with dad.”
  714. “But, she hesitated about it.”
  715. “Look, I’ll continue to work on mom, I think I can bring her around.”
  716. “Maybe enough to at least get her to come to the wedding.”
  717. >You don’t know if it will work, but at this point you don’t have much else
  718. >”Thanks sis.”
  719. “No problem, bro”
  720. >You look down at Roseluck
  721. >She looks so sad lying in your lap
  722. >She looks back up at you
  723. >The look in her eyes is the same look that she gave you the night at the college
  724. >Utter sadness and despair
  725. >Her eyes shimmer with tears that have yet to fall
  726. “Anon, I’m so sorry, this is my fault…”
  727. >No anything but that
  728. >”This is nowhere near your fault Rose.”
  729. “But I…
  730. >”You did nothing wrong…”
  731. >Rose pushes herself off of you
  732. “No Anon you will listen to me.”
  733. “I did this! This is my fault!”
  734. >Tears start to streak down her face, but there’s something else…
  735. “I convinced you it would be a good idea to talk to your parents.”
  736. >Is she loosing color?
  737. >No the sky is darkening, it looks like rain…
  738. “I didn’t listen to you when you told me about your parents.”
  739. >No you’re sure of it now, she is greyer.
  740. “I caused you to bring me her and caused your parents to disown you!”
  741. “Maybe your parents were right, I’m no better than the filthy animals!”
  742. >This brings you to your feet, rage starts to course through your veins.
  743. >”No! I don’t accept that!”
  744. “How can you not! It’s all there out in the open!”
  745. >”Because it’s not true! You are different! Fuck my parents! I have you!”
  746. “Wrong Anon! You are better off without me! You don’t need me! I just cause more trouble!”
  747. >She start to turn and walk away
  748. >No, you are not losing her
  749. >You run forward and throw your arms around her
  750. “Let me go Anon!”
  751. >”I’m not letting you go Rose, you are too important to me!”
  752. >It begins to rain
  753. >She fights back against your embrace
  754. >But as she fight you just hold her tighter
  755. “I’m nothing to you! This whole this was a mistake!”
  756. >”You don’t believe that Rose! This isn’t you!”
  757. >The rain falls harder
  758. >”Rose think back to our first real date, at the college.”
  759. “The one where you broke my heart on the dance floor?”
  760. >The rain continues to grow in strength
  761. >Ok not where you were going with that…
  762. >”Yes, there was that. But after words, what happened?”
  763. >You feel her relax a bit in your arms
  764. “You came after me, and told me you didn’t care what anybody else thought. That you wanted to be happy with me.”
  765. >”That’s right, nothing has changed Rose. We are going to get married. And we are going to be happy.”
  766. >She fully relaxes in your arms; her color starts to come back to her coat.
  767. “Anon, I’m sorry, I don’t know what came over me, I was just so angry at your parents…”
  768. >”Shhh it’s ok Rose, a lot has gone on today…”
  769. >The rain has soaked you both
  770. >You lean in a begin to kiss Rose
  771. >She leans into you kissing back
  772. >You sister stands there with her arms crossed watch the spectacle
  773. “You know guys, I’m all for Notebooky fight and make up scenes in the rain. It’s all very romantic and what not. But can we move the fuck inside! I’m getting soaked!”
  774. >And there’s the wit…
  775. >You and Roseluck begin to laugh as you head inside the station
  776. >The rest of the time practically flies by
  777. >The train arrives and you bid goodbye to you sister
  778. >She gives Rose a big hug before you depart and promises to be at the wedding when it happens
  779. >The train begins to depart the station
  780. >Rose looks at you with still some concern
  781. “Are you sure it will all be alright Anon…
  782. >”I know it will; everything gets better…”
  783. >”With Time…”
  784. End of Part 6
  785. End of Chapter 5
