  2. >You look up from your book when you see a small brown puppy hop up onto your lap and eagerly lick your face.
  3. "Woah there boy!"
  4. >Looking at the dog's collar, you notice one important thing about this pet.
  5. >He only has three legs.
  6. >The tag on the collar says "Brownie".
  7. >You look around, but don't see an owner close by.
  8. >Well, you did get about a fourth of the way through the book.
  9. >You pet the dog.
  10. "Who's a good boy?"
  11. >His warm fur feels nice under your hand and he lays his head in your lap.
  12. >You hear a muffled voice from the other side of the park calling out towards the park.
  13. >That might be the owner.
  14. >You probably should wait for whoever it is to come and reclaim the poor guy.
  15. >Over the low fence of the park, you see a mare calling all around.
  16. >"Brownie! Where are you boy?"
  17. >She looks nearly on the edge of tears.
  18. >Her vivid blue hair catches your attention and your eyes connect.
  19. >The mare looks at the dog carefully and the Brownie raises his head.
  20. >You wave to the mare and her face lights up.
  21. >Grabbing Brownie's collar, you slowly bring him over to her.
  22. >However, after accidentally letting go, he stays close to you.
  23. >In fact, he won't leave your side.
  24. >It's almost like, he's leading you to her.
  25. >As you reach the gate, you notice the mare hasn't really moved that far.
  26. >Passing through the gate, you see why.
  27. >She only has three hooves.
  28. >The dog walks up to her and barks at you with his tongue out.
  29. >"Thank you so much for finding him. It means the world to me."
  30. >The sight takes your breath away for a moment.
  31. >She carefully drops her two back hooves and holds Brownie close to her with her functional front hoof.
  32. "It's... no problem. He's a good boy. My name's Anon."
  33. >You about reach out your hand for a hoofshake, but instead kneel down to her level.
  34. >"My name's Azure. It's nice to meet you."
  35. >After a moment of holding her pet, she holds her hoof out to you and you gently shake it.
  36. >The dog jumps up into your lap and drops slobbery wet kisses on you.
  37. "Woah! Haha."
  38. >"Brownie!"
  39. >She pulls him off of you and the two of you laugh.
  40. >"Sorry, he can get a little affectionate around new friends."
  41. "It's no problem. I love dogs. What breed is he? He looks like some type of hound."
  42. >"Yeah! He's actually a mix hounds. He looked so sad at the shelter... and well. It's like we were meant for each other."
  43. >She smiles and chuckles in a practiced way that you can easily tell is forced.
  44. "Well, both of you seem really nice, so it makes a ton of sense to me."
  45. >She looks into your eyes carefully.
  46. >As if she were really just seeing you for the first time.
  47. >"Nopony has ever said that before. They usually just drop it or comment on... Well you know."
  48. >You put on a coy smile.
  49. "Well, I was debating adding on a part about licking faces, but decided against it."
  50. >Azure chuckles and cracks a quick smile.
  51. >"Well. Uhm. Thank you. You seem really nice, but I think I probably should get out of your mane."
